열간가스성형용 알루미늄 개발 합금 공정 조건에 관한 연구 (Study on an Aluminum Modified Alloy and Manufacturing Conditions for Hot Metal Gas Forming)

  • In order to respond to environmental regulations and increased demand for fuel economy, the demand for lightweight car bodies has grown. Hydroforming of aluminum is one possible solution as it eliminates the need for additional welding to develop closed cross-sectional parts. However, the low formability of aluminum is a limitation of its application. On the other hand, the ductility of materials can be improved at higher temperatures, and hot metal gas forming has been widely applied in the production of lightweight vehicle parts. In this study, aluminum alloy for pipe extrusion was developed by controlling the Mg:Cr:Mn ratio based on AA5083. Mechanical properties of the developed material were examined by tensile test and were applied to a forming simulation. Cold forming simulation for preforming and non-isothermal hot forming simulation for hot metal gas forming were carried out to validate process conditions. A prototype of the sidemember was manufactured under the given process condition. Finally, thickness distribution was compared with finite element analysis results.

  • The application of light weight materials, such as aluminum alloy, has been limited due of their poor formability. Especially, aluminum alloy tube has limited expansion capability at most 15% at room temperature. New manufacturing process, called hot air forming, is introduced to apply aluminum tube to the automotive suspension components which have complex shape and require high expansion ratio about 40%. The process is carried out at the elevated temperature above $500^{\circ}C$, so numerous material properties and process parameters related to the high temperature should be investigated and determined to get a sound product. In this study, the effect of thermal properties and forming parameters such as the temperature of tool, axial feeding and gas pressure are analyzed by using explicit finite element method.

  • Recently, the hydroforming of high strength aluminum tubes has many studies and applications in manufacturing industry, especially in automotive industry. But high strength aluminum tube has limited expansion capability at most 15% at normal temperature. New manufacturing process, called hot air forming, is introduced to apply aluminum tube to the automotive sub frame components which have complex shape and require high expansion ratio about 40%.   • Warm forming technology was classified into hot gas forming of using compressible fluid as a nitrogen gas and warm hydroforming of using the incompressible fluid as a thermal oil by using medium fluid. In this study, the aluminum side-rail part was developed with warm hydroforming technology. For the warm hydroforming system, top and bottom die was designed to insert heating cartridge in die cavity and special indirect fluid heating system was designed to heat the thermal oil. As increase the temperature, hydroformability was increased linearly. Aluminum side-rail center part was formed 90% at the internal pressure of 100bar and perfectly formed at 300bar within a moderate temperature. The tube material used for warm hydroforming was a aluminum 6000 series alloy with the diameter of 120mm, thickness of 5mm, length of 1,300mm. Warm hydroformed side-rail center part had 20% of maximum expansion ratio and below 20% of maximum thinning ratio at corner radius. This results were provided to show warm hydroforming possibility for aluminum automotive components.

  • The hot curvature forming of large aluminum plates is a process used to produce spherical liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks. In this study, we describe a method to determine the optimum shape of blanks to minimize the root gap in the forming process. The method proposed in this study was applied to a small-scale model for thick plates with a curvature of 1500 mm and thickness of 6 mm. First, the shape of the curved shells was determined as the target shape, and then a coordinate transform was used to determine the optimum blank shape, which was then iteratively modified using the results of finite element method (FEM) simulations, including heat transfer, until the shape error was minimized. Experiments in forming using Al5083 thick plate were carried out, showing that the method can determine the optimum blank shape within an allowable root gap of 0.1 mm.

저밀도 세라믹 필터의 고온 여과 성능시험에 관한 연구 (A Study on the High Temperature Filtration Performance Test of Low Density Ceramic Filters)

  • Hot gas filtration method via using ceramic filters is an evolving technology applicable to numerous industrial and air pollution control processes. Alumino silicate, organic and inorganic binders were the major raw materials in manufacturing ceramic filters. In this work, disc type ceramic filters(50$\phi$$\times$10t) were manufactured by vacuum forming processes using ceramic raw materials. The porosity and bulk density of disc type ceramic filers ranged from 86 to 89% and from 0.27 to 0.36 g/㎤, respectively. In this work disc type ceramic medium were tested utilizing coupon experimental apparatus. Disc type filters showed high collection efficiencies over 99.96% with Darchs law coefficients of 4.1$\times$10(sup)10~9.63$\times$10(sup)10/$m^2$ depending on mean pore sizes. In addition, filtration and detachment of ceramic filters turned out to be performed effectively using 10 cm/sec face velocity, 5 minutes filtration cycle, 100msec pulse jet valve opening time and 3 bar pulsing pressure.

  • This article describes the basic engineering concepts to be considered in the application of an induction heating furnace in the hot-dip galvanizing line. Experience in the Dongkuk project in Pohang, has shown that this arrangement has many advantages over the conventional method of using a combustion-gas heated furnace. Investment and operating costs are lower, the line length is much shorter, line operation is more convenient, air pollution is reduced, and the coated strip at of top-quality. As these benefits become well known, it is anticipated that the concept of induction heating will be more widely used in both new and revamped process lines. Induction heating is suitable for the production of Commercial Quality hot galvanized coils. More research is required to extend the present concept to the production of higher forming grades such as Drawing, Deep Drawing and Extra Deep Drawing Quality steels. A combination of induction heating and combustion-gas heating may lead to the way to the processing of these qualities of strip.

  • Among the various manufacturing processes of composites, the tape lay-up process of thermoset prepreg has many advantages compared to autoclave or hot press forming. It has a high potential to process automation and continuous fabrication. In this study, temperature distribution of composite exposed in hot gas was studied numerically and the validity of the analysis was verified by the experiments.

Aluminizing and Corrosion of Carbon Steels in N2/0.5%H2S Gas at 650-850℃

  • The effect of hot-dip aluminizing on the corrosion of the low carbon steel was studied at $650-850^{\circ}C$ for 20-50 h in $N_2/0.5%\;H_2S$ gas. The aluminized steel consisted primarily of the Al topcoat and the underlying Al-Fe alloy layer. Aluminizing drastically improved the corrosion resistance by forming the ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ surface scale. Without aluminizing, the steel formed nonadherent, fragile, thick scales, which consisted of FeS as the major phase and iron oxides such as FeO, $Fe_3O_4$ and $Fe_2O_3$ as minor ones.

  • Al-rich coatings were prepared on hot rolled low carbon steel by hot dipping method in molten Al-bath to investigate the corrosion resistance with the possible outcomes and defects of aluminized coatings in air and $Ar-0.2%SO_2$ mixed gases. Coating microstructure was composed of an inner Al-Fe intermetallic layer and outer Al-rich layer. Aluminum oxidized preferentially to the thin, outer, protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, without forming the nonprotective iron/sulfur-oxide layer after heating at $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 h, in both the gases and provided the resistance against corrosion.
