This study was carried out to evaluate quantitatively some properties (density, equilibrium moisture content, shrinkage, water vapor adsorption, water absorptivity, compressive strength, bending strength, hardness and decay resistance) of Larix kaempferi lumber which was heat-treated by hot air and has been used commercially in Korea. Equilibrium moisture content of the heat-treated wood was decreased with increase of hydrophobicity. Dimensional stability of the wood was improved with decrease of shrinkage, water vapor adsorption and free water absorptivity. Also, with the thermo-chemical changes of wood component and lower equilibrium moisture content, decay resistance and compressive strength of heat-treated wood were increased. But, bending strength and hardness of wood were decreased.
When hot-rolled wide flanges are used as vertical compressive or bending member, opening web are often to take a space for equipments of pipe or duct. The Web of hot-rolled wide flange steel with opening may be analyzed as a rectangular plate, subjected to in plane force, and the buckling load is governed by the ultimate force of web. The result of the theory showed close agreement with the result of the finite element analysis. It was also shown that the buckling loads of stiffened opening plates could be larger than those of the plate. The stiffened opening plates for the 4-side simply supported case showed more stiffening effect than the Two Opposite Elastic Supports and Two Other Opposite Simply Supports case. In this study, we proposed the effective opening sizes that buckling loads of stiffened opening plate could be greater than those of the plates.
To find a suitable condition in this process examined, we investigated the main control factors, such as, the NaOH concentrations, such as, the NaOH concentrations, the heat treating times, and the heating temperatures. The resulting mechanical properties of the fabrics also studied. The samples used were Nylon/Co-PET sea-island type composite microfiber (Co-PET content: 35%) non-woven fabric. The conclusions obtained were as follows. 1. For the complete extraction of Co-PET from the sample non-woven fabric in the dry hot air process, $160^{\circ}C$ of air temperature, 15 min. of treatment time, and around 30% of NaOH concentration were required. On the other hand, in the wet hot air process, $140^{\circ}C$ of air temperature, 3.5 min. of treatment time, and around 30% of NaOH concentration were required. 2. The mechanical properties of the continuous processed samples showed that the WT, B, and WC increased with increasing the weight reduction ratio. However, the G, decreased with increasing the weight loss ratio. Note that, particularly in B, it increased drastically when the weight deduction ratios exceeded 30%. 3. As increasing the wet hot air temperature from 130 to $140^{\circ}C$, B appeared to increase, however, WT, G, and WC appeared to decrease. 4. The best condition found in this continuous process to extract Co-PET is the wet hot air temperature of 140, NaOH concentration of 28% or above, and the treatment time 2-4 min.

SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy system and advanced gas turbine because it has excellent high temperature strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good resistance to oxidation and good thermal and chemical stability etc. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as low fracture toughness and low strain-to fracture still impose a severe limitation on practical applications of SiC materials. For these reasons, SiC/SiC composites can be considered as a promising for various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness compared with monolithic SiC ceramics. But, high temperature and pressure lead to the degradation of the reinforcing jiber during the hot pressing. Therefore, reduction of sintering temperature and pressure is key requirements for the fabrication of SiC/SiC composites by hot pressing method. In the present work, monolithic Liquid Phase Sintered SiC (LPS-SiC) was fabricated by hot pressing method in Ar atmosphere at $1800^{\circ}C$ under 20MPa using $Al_2O_3,\;Y_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$ as sintering additives in order to low sintering temperature and sintering pressure. The starting powder was high purity $\beta-SiC$ nano-powder with all average particle size of 30mm. The characterization of LPS-SiC was investigated by means of SEM and three point bending test. Base on the composition of sintering additives-, microstructure- and mechanical property correlation, tire compositions of sintering additives are discussed.
Bending fracture strength test and impact strength test were made for VC coated die steels treated by immersing in molten borax bath and for hardened steels which were quenched and tempered, in order to clarify the effect of VC coating at $1000^{\circ}C$. The material used in this investigation was representative cold and hot work die steels STD11, STD61. The results obtained are as follows. 1) The bending fracture strength of VC coated die steel (STD11, STD61) was lessened with increasing the thickness of the VC coated layer. 2) With increasing the immersing time (imcreasing the thickness of the VC coated layer) the maximum hardness was obtained at 480 minutes holding, after that holding time hardness was decreased. 3) The impact strength of the VC coated die steel was not decreased. In the casse of STD11, it was higher than that of the quenched condition especially at low tempering temperature, and vice versa at high tempering temperature. However in the case of STD61 shows the result to the contrary.
Composite beams with corrugated steel webs represent a new innovative system which has emerged in the past decade for medium span in the construction technology. The use of composite beams with corrugated steel webs results in a range of benefits, including flexible spaces and reduced foundation costs in the construction technology. The thin corrugated web affords a significant weight reduction of these beams, compared with hot-rolled or welded ones. In the current research, an optimal designed I-girder beam with corrugated web has been proposed to improve the structural performance of continuous composite girder under bending moment. The experimental program has been conducted for six simply supported composite beams with different loading conditions. The tested specimens are designed by using one of the stochastic techniques called hunting search algorithm. In the optimization process, besides the thickness of concrete slab and studs, corrugated web properties are considered as design variables. The design constraints are respectively implemented from Eurocode 3, BS-8110 and DIN 18-800 Teil-1. The last part of the study focuses on performing a numerical study on composite beams by utilizing finite element analysis and the bending behavior of steel girders with corrugated webs experimentally and numerically verified the results. A nonlinear analysis was carried out using the finite element software ANSYS on the composite beams which were modelled using the elements ten-node high order quadrilateral type.
This study was carried out to manufacture black charcoal board from domestic wood waste by using serum protein adhesive which is natural, environment-friendly and human-friendly. For the preparation of the serum protein adhesive, pig blood from slaughterhouse was centrifuged and serum was separated from corpuscles and concentrated to 30% by dry weight basis. The particle size of charcoal from domestic wood waste for this study was #6-60. Hot pressing schedule was $170^{\circ}C$ and 40kgf/$cm^2$ (1 min)-10kgf/$cm^2$ (2.5 min)-40kgf/$cm^2$ (5 min). The black charcoal board made by the addition of 13% serum protein adhesive on dry weight basis gave 41.76kgf/$cm^2$ of bending strength, 8.12kgf/$cm^2$ of internal bonding strength, and excellent gas adsorption and workability.
Fatigue tests and numerical analysis were carried out to evaluate the fatigue performance at the U-rib to deck welded joint in steel box girder. Twenty specimens were tested corresponding to different penetration rates (80 and 100%) under fatigue bending load, and the fatigue strength was investigated based on hot spot stress (HSS) method. The detailed stress distribution at U-rib to deck welded joint was analyzed by the finite element method, as well as the stress intensity factor of weld root. The test results show that the specimens with fully penetration rate have longer crack propagation life due to the welding geometry, resulting in higher fatigue failure strength. The classification of FAT-90 is reasonable for evaluating fatigue strength by HSS method. The penetration rate has effect on crack propagation angle near the surface, and the 1-mm stress below weld toe and root approves to be more suitable for fatigue stress assessment, because of its high sensitivity to weld geometry than HSS.
Unidirectional Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) are advanced materials which combine the characteristics of the light weight, high stiffness and strength. For those reasons, the use of the unidirectional CFRP has increased in jet fighters, aerospace structures. However, unidirectional CFRP composites have a lot of problems, especially delamination, compared with traditional materials such as steels and aluminums, and so forth. Therefore, the interlaminar fracture toughness for a laminate CFRP composite is very important. In this study, The mode II interlaminar fracture toughness was measured by using center notched flexure(CNF) test specimen. The CNF specimens using unidirectional carbon prepreg were fabricated by a hot-press with the gage pressure and temperature controller. And three kinds of a/L ratio was applied to these specimens. Here, we discuss the relations of the crack growth and the mode II interlaminar fracture under the four point bending CNF test. From the results, we shows that mode II interlaminar was occurred when the more $a_0$/L ratio, the less load. And $G_{IIC}$ also were obtained as 5.33, 2.9 and $0.58kJ/m^2$ according to $a_0$/L ratio=0.2, 0.3 and 0.4.
This study was carried out to examine the practicality of DAP[$(NH_4)_2HPO_4$] as fire retardant for plywood by static bending test the redried plywoods which had been soaked in 20% $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ solution. Being hot/cold soaked in the solution for 3/3, 6/3, 9/3 and 12/3 hours and redried by cyclic press-drying method at the platen temp. of 130, 145, 100 and $175^{\circ}C$, the treated plywoods were tested to offer the mechanical data, that is, $S_{pl}$(stress at proportional limit), MOE(modulus of elasticity), MOR(modulus of rupture) and $W_{pl}$(work per unit volume to proportional limit ) in flexure. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. $S_{pl}$ of fire retardant treated plywoods ("FRP" would be used hereinafter) decreased as the platen temperature increased, but it was superior to that of non-treated plywoods(Control) at $160^{\circ}C$ or higher. 2. MOE of FRP decreased roughly with the increase of temperature, hut this tendency was not constant. And the value of FRP was higher than that of Control even at $175^{\circ}C$. 3. MOR of FRP showed same temperature-dependent tendency as MOE, but it was influenced more sensitively at the higher temperature. 4. $W_{pl}$ of FRP also decreased gradually with the increase of platen temperature and the value in DAP 9/3 treatment was Jess than 70% of control plywoods. 5. In view of redrying time and mechanical properties, the most reasonable platen temperature for DAP treated FRP was $160^{\circ}C$ in this study.
