  • It requires a great deal of efforts to maintain a distributed system. What is important here is that we should be able to upgrade/maintain a distributed system without stopping the system in operation. For this, what we need is a dynamic reconfigurable framework for highly available distributed systems. In this paper, we propose objects-hot-swapping methods as a solution to our problem. These methods permit us to dynamically upgrade/expand a system without stopping the system in operation. In addition, we analyze these methods and show that an approach based on proxy is the most efficient. Furthermore, we propose two proxy-based approaches: the first one based on the static proxy provides for a fast execution time but it is difficult to implement. The second one based on the dynamic proxy provides for a slow execution time but it is easier to implement. Finally, we propose a hot swapping framework for these static and dynamic proxy.

  • For 24 hours-7 days service on distributed systems, a great deal of efforts are investigated on high availability for seamless operation. In this paper, we propose a dynamic reconfiguration framework of distributed systems, called "hot-swapping" framework. This framework allows us to upgrade and exchange a number of modules of a distributed system without stopping running service as well as the system itself. In order to hide the state of service operation, the framework employes the "proxy" design pattern. Our framework provides two types of proxies: a static proxy and a dynamic proxy, Static proxies can achieve fast execution time, but they need to be changed whenever any minor change exists in the related swappable module. Meanwhile, dynamic proxies takes longer execution time, but do not need to be changed under minor changes of swappable modules. We compare performances of static and dynamic proxies and also apply the framework to a real situation with security management modules. management modules.

  • RAID technology that provides the disk I/O system with high performance and high availability is essential for OLTP server. This paper describes the design and implementation of the HIPSS RAID system that has been developed for the SPAX OLTP server. HIPSS has the following design objectives: high performance, high availability, standardization and modularization of external interface, and ease of maintenance. It guarantees high performance by providing 10 independent I/O channels, large data cache, and parity calculation engine. Hardware modularization of the host interface makes it easy to replace host interface hardware module. By providing dual power supply, dual array controller, and disk hot swapping, it provides the system with high availability Implementation of HIPSS and integration test on SPAX has been completed and performance measurement on HIPSS is now going on. In this paper, we provide the detail description for HIPSS system architecture and the implementation results.

  • PWM(pulse width modulation) rectifier has unit power factor and low harmonic distortion with high power conversion efficiency in entire loading range. These merits of PWM rectifier help the spread of DC distribution system. In addition, if multiple PWM rectifiers can be operated in parallel connection, maintenance process can be simple and reliability of power source can be advanced because of the hot swapping is available. The other way, the load unbalance among rectifiers can force a converter to stop by over current. The surge current by closed circuit composition between rectifiers can force switching devices damage. In this paper, some problems that can occur in case of parallel operation of PWM rectifiers and problem eliminating methods are considered.

  • Globalization is swapping the every possible corner of the globe steadily yet gradually. Mammoth like companies are penetrating the threshold of potential nations as freelancers and exploiting every inch of feasibility to carry out commercial activities. Undoubtedly, the entire world is experiencing the glare of new horizon. Even laggards nations are also turning out to be a country of immense potential and dynamism. They too, have awakened miserably to comprehend their self worth and entity while bearing the torch of Globalization. The shed of globalization have not only sprinkled capitalistic or mercantilist but even countries like China - once a hardcore communist country is also not remaining untouched with it. Albeit, the Dragon responding affirmatively to the hot current of Globalization yet their way is un-orthodoxical, strange and inventive. This case study discussed on major areas where India, the largest democracy in the world and six largest economy in the world are facing steep competition from China.
