  • Atrazine, one of herbicide widely used in agriculture, is classified as a possible human carcinogen (2B group) that may cause breast and ovarian cancers by IARC, and is known as an endocrine disrupter. Atrazine has been subjected to broad ranges of genotoxicity tests wi th predominantly negative results, but reported conflicting results across two or more independent tests as well. (omitted)

  • Boney metastasis may lead to terrible suffering from debilitating pain. The most likely malignancies that spread to bone are prostate, breast, and lung. Painful osseous metastases are typically associated with multiple episodes of breakthrough pain which may occur with activities of daily living, weight bearing, lifting, coughing, and sneezing. Almost half of these breakthrough pain episodes are rapid in onset and short in duration and 44% of episodes are unpredictable. Treatment strategies include: analgesic approaches with "triple opioid therapy", bisphosphonates, chemotherapeutic agents, hormonal therapy, interventional and surgical approaches, steroids, radiation (external beam radiation, radiopharmaceuticals), ablative techniques (radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation), and intrathecal analgesics.

  • A system was established for induction of multi-shoots and plant regeneration from mesophyll protoplasts of alfalfa, Medicago sativa L. cv. Vernal. Different hormonal effects were tested at each step of protoplast culture, i.e. cell division in modified Kao's liquid medium (K566-7). calli formation on SH semi solid medium, and multi-shoot regeneration from calli on SHa and SHb solid media. Frequency of multi-shoots and plant regeneration was affected by various combinations of phytohormones in final step. The evaluation of multi-shoots induction systems via protoplast culture was discused.

  • Most drug discovery has focused in recent years on the development of molecules that either interact with or block receptors, proteins that act as on-off switches for genetic activity, on the surfaces of human cells. Now, we have developed a technology that targets “receptors inside the cell” (intracellular receptors), opening a new and compelling avenue for drug discovery. Our receptor-based small molecule drugs can be catagorized in two ways: 1) receptor agonists, or molecules that activate a receptor; and 2) receptor antagonists, or drugs that inactivate a receptor.

  • Both glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT) and 7.2 kb mRNAs were present at the highest level in liver. Glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase and 7.2 kb mRNA levels increased dramatically when fasted mice were refed a high carbohydrate diet. In mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes, insulin increased both glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase and 7.2kb mRNA levels 2.6 to 3-fold while dibutyryl cAMP decreased mRNA levels by 50% and 80%, respectively. These results indicate positive regulation by insulin and negative regulation by dibutyryl cAMP of both glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase and 7.2 kb mRNA.

  • Vitellogenin (VTG) is a Precursor form of egg yolk Proteins, which appear only in the blood circulation of female fish and its synthesis in the liver is considered to be regulated by several hormones. It has been reported that in addition to estradiol-17 $\beta$ (E2) several hormones are also involved in the production site of VTG, the liver (Peyon et al., 1996; Mori et al., 1998). (omitted)

Atrazine has been subjected to broad ranges of genotoxicity tests with predominantly negative results, but reported conflicting results across two or more independent tests as well. This fact indicates that a more comprehensive genotoxicity assessment needs for atrazine.(omitted)

  • Although the increasing incidence of central precocious puberty (CPP) in Korea has recently raised public concerns about health and growth problems, there are many areas of uncertainty regarding the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of CPP. In this paper, we review the definition of precocity, the assessment of CPP, and the hormonal abnormalities that support the diagnosis. In addition, we review the practical guidelines regarding the clinical use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs in children with CPP. Indications for treatment, determination of dosage, monitoring during treatment, and discontinuation of therapy are discussed.
