철근콘크리트 코오벨 부재의 구조성능 평가 및 내력 추정 (Evaluation of Structural Performance on Corbel in the Reinforced Concrete)

  • In order to identify the exact behavior of corbel section, the horizontal force acting on corbel section should be considered as well as the vertical force. In this study, a new corbel section, which is economical and easy to construct, is developed by evaluating the exact strength of the section. Experiments were performed to verify the strengths of the proposed sections comparing with those of the currently used section. The summary of the experiment results are as follows: 1) In order to minimize the horizontal force effect, it was found that the use of pre-stressing was most effective, and that TB type corbel section is a most efficient section in terms of economy and workability. 2) The experimentally obtained strength of corbel section matched well with that estimated using shear friction theory. Therefore, it is concluded that shear friction theory would be very useful if a precise crack angie in the corbel section, which is pre-stressed by PS strings and threaded bolts, is available.

Wind Load Combinations Including Torsion for Rectangular Medium-rise Buildings

  • This paper presents the results of a set of wind tunnel tests carried out to examine wind-induced overall structural loads on rectangular medium-rise buildings. Emphasis was directed towards torsion and its correlation with peak shear forces in transverse and longitudinal directions. Two building models with the same horizontal dimensions but different gabled-roof angles ($0^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$) were tested at different full-scale equivalent eave heights (20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 m) in open terrain exposure for all wind directions (every $15^{\circ}C$). Wind-induced pressures were integrated over building surfaces and results were obtained for along-wind force, across-wind force, and torsional moment. Maximum wind force component was given along with the other simultaneously-observed wind force components normalized by the overall peak. The study found that for flat-roofed buildings maximum torsion for winds in transverse direction is associated with 80% of the overall shear force perpendicular to the longer horizontal building dimension; and 45% of the maximum shear occurs perpendicular to the smaller horizontal building dimension. Comparison of the wind tunnel results with current torsion provisions in the American wind standard, the Canadian and European wind codes demonstrate significant discrepancies. Suggested load combination factors were introduced aiming at an adequate evaluation of wind load effects on rectangular medium-rise buildings.

새로운 표면탄성파를 이용한 변형률 센서 개발 (Development of novel strain sensor using surface acoustic wave)

  • A SAW strain sensor based on Shear Horizontal wave with an 92 MHz central frequency was developed. It consists of SAW sensor, PCB substrate and bonding material (Loctite 401). External force applied to PCB substrate bonded to a piezoelectric substrate induces strain at the substrate surface, which causes changes in the elastic constant and density of the substrate and hence the propagation velocity of the SAW. The change in the velocity of the SAW result in a frequency shift of the sensor and by measuring a frequency shift, we can extract the strain induced by the external force. The $41^{\circ}$ YX $LiNbO_3$ was used because it has a Leaky shear horizontal(SH) wave propagation mode and a high electromechanical coupling coefficient ($K^2$=17.2%). And to compare with Rayleigh wave mode, $128^{\circ}$ YX $LiNbO_3$ was used. And to make a stable and low insert loss, Split IDT structure was used. The obtained sensitivity and linearity of the SAW strain sensor in the case of Split IDT were measured to be 17.2 kHz / % and 0.99, respectively.

Nondestructive inspection of spent nuclear fuel storage canisters using shear horizontal guided waves

  • Nondestructive inspection (NDI) is an integral part of structural integrity analyses of dry storage casks that house spent nuclear fuel. One significant concern for the structural integrity is stress corrosion cracking in the heat-affected zone of welds in the stainless steel canister that confines the spent fuel. In situ NDI methodology for detection of stress corrosion cracking is investigated, where the inspection uses a delivery robot because of the presence of the harsh environment and geometric constrains inside the cask protecting the canister. Shear horizontal (SH) guided waves that are sensitive to cracks oriented either perpendicular or parallel to the wave vector are used to locate welds and to detect cracks. SH waves are excited and received by electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) using noncontact ultrasonic transduction and pulse-echo mode. A laboratory-scale canister mock-up is fabricated and inspected using the proposed methodology to evaluate the ability of EMATs to excite and receive SH waves and to locate welds. The EMAT's capability to detect notches from various distances is evaluated on a plate containing 25%-through-thickness surface-breaking notches. Based on the results of the distances at which notch reflections are detectable, NDI coverage for spent nuclear fuel storage canisters is determined.

  • Non-uniform and unsteady inflow into a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) brings about an asymmetric flow field on the rotor plane and an unsteady aerodynamic load on the blades. In the present paper effects of yawed inflow and wind shear are analyzed by an inviscid aerodynamic model based on the asymptotic acceleration potential method. In the analysis the rotor blades are represented by spanwise and chordwise pressure distribution composed of analytical first-order asymptotic solutions for the Laplace equation. As the actual wind field experienced by a HAWT is turbulent, the effects of the turbulence are also examined using the Veers' model.

지반 그라우팅에 의한 상부구조물의 안전성 분석 (Stability Analysis of Upper Structures by Soil Grouting)

  • Transportation and further expansion of social infrastructure was needed along the development of urbanization and population concentration. To use the underground space due to the lack of availability of land, it is inevitable to intersect between present structure and tunnel during construction. Soil grouting is one of the ground improvement methods to reinforce weak soil around the underground structures by injection of grouting liquid. Some of central columns of an upper structure are damaged during injection of grouting liquid by injection pressure. To investigate and improve the stability of the tunnel, three dimensional analysis are performed with full construction stages which includes the construction of present underpass, damaging columns of the underpass, reinforcing the columns by H-pile and shear walls, and excavation and construct tunnel. The arrangement of grouting holes such as curtain and horizontal type affects largely to the stability of upper structure and horizontal arrangement diminish the shear forces which is the cause of damage of central columns. The liquid injection type of reinforcement for tunnel is not recommended while the presence of upper structure with columns. Wall type reinforcing is utilize for permant support of upper structures which is affected by grouting injection pressure. H-pile is utilize for temporary support, but not for permanent since the sharing of shear forces is not much to shear wall during tunnel construction.

프리캐스트 병렬 전단벽의 연성도 해석 (Ductility Demand of Precast Coupled Shear Wall)

  • 본 연구는 초기 내진설계단에서 프리캐스트 병렬전단벽의 연결보의 필요한 연성도의 간단한 계산방법을 제시한다 프리캐스트 병렬 전단벽의 최상층 변위는 연속체 접근 방법으로 구한 부부과 구한 부분과 분절적으로 나타나는 수평접합부의 개폐로 인한 소성변위의 합으로 나타난다. 이러한 계산을 통해 시스템 레벨의 연성도와 부재 레벨의 연성도의 관계를 구한다 여기서 제안되 연성도 관계식으로부터 연결보의 강성이 증가하거나 강도가 벽체에 비해 작은 경우에는 연결보의 과다한 연성도가 필요하 것으로 나타난다 또한 이러한 연성도는 해당 층의 수평접합부의 개폐정도에 비례함을 보여준다 그러나 고층부의 연결보는 수평접합부 개폐정도에 관계가 적음을 보여준다.

Bearing Strength of Hybrid Coupled Shear Wall Connections

  • Due to lack of information, current design methods to calculate bearing strength of connections are tacit about cases in which hybrid coupled walls have connection details of stud bolts and horizontal ties. In this study, analytical study was carried out to develop model for calculating the connections strength of embedded steel section. The bearing stress at failure in the concrete below the embedded steel coupling beam section is related to the concrete compressive strength and the ratio of the width of the embedded steel coupling beam section to the thickness of the shear walls. Experiments were carried out to determine the factors influencing the bearing strength of the connection between steel coupling beam and reinforced concrete shear wall. The test variables included the reinforcement details that confer a ductile behavior in connection between steel coupling beam and shear wall, i. e., the auxiliary stud bolts attached to the steel beam flanges and the transverse ties at the top and the bottom steel beam flanges. In addition, additional test were conducted to verify the strength equations of the connection between steel coupling beam and reinforced concrete shear wall. The results of the proposed equations in this study are in good agreement with both our test results and other test data from the literature.

풍성연안순환모델의 수정 (Modification of Wind Generated Coastal Circulation Model)

  • The wind generated circulation model describes the phenomenon based on the following physical assumptions: a) As the horizontal dimension of the flow domain is several orders of magnitude larger than vertical dimension, nearly horizontal flow is realistic. b) The time taken for circulation to develop may effect on the flow domain of the earth's rotation, the contribution of the Coriolis force. c) A flow domain of large dimension results in quite large Reynolds number and the Reynolds stresses are approximated by the turbulent mean velocity gradient. d) The circulation is forced by the shear stresses on the water surface exercised by the wind. Modification made to the depth average approximation of the convective terms and the bed shear stress terms by adopting a certain distribution of current over the depth and laboratory measurements for the bed shear expression. Modification circulation patterns, energy evolution and surface profile gave the significant differences comparing with the classical model results. The modified model results in higher free surface gradients balancing both the free surface shear and the bed shear and consequently to higher surface profiles along the coast.

  • This paper dscribes an experimental investigation into the cause of flexural-shear failure in RC beams. The experimental variables are bottom flange width and tension bar location. Then these test results were compared and analyzed to deduce the major cause of critical-shear cracking. As a result, it was found that the propagation of the critical shear crack depended exclusively on the intensity of horizontal cracking.
