In-mold Coating is a method that can simultaneously perform injection molding and surface coating in injection mold. The material used for coating is two-component polyurethane which is composed of polyol and isocyanate. L-type mixing head can be used to mix polyol and isocyanate uniformly, and inject them inside the mold cavity. The surface quality of the injection molded products by using in-mold coating depends on the mixing uniformity between main agent and hardener. In this study, flow analysis was performed to design a mixing head for uniform mixing of two-component polyurethane. Especially the effects of design parameters of mixing head on mixing uniformity and nozzle pressure were investigated. The parameters of mixing head were mixing chamber diameter, cleaning cylinder diameter, nozzle alignment angle in the horizontal and vertical direction, and cleaning piston position. It was found that optimal design values were mixing chamber diameter of 3.5 mm, cleaning cylinder diameter of 5.0 mm, nozzle horizontal/vertical alignment angles of 140°/160°, and cleaning piston position of 1.8 mm. The optimal values would be used to develop a two-component mixing head achieving an uniform mixing for in-mold coating.
Heat transfer characteristics of heat storing processes in paraffin-filled horizontal circular cylinder is studied. The unmelted solid paraffin is allowed to fall on the bottom wall under gravity. In the upper liquid phase, natural convection is considered to take place while in the lower liquid film between the solid paraffin and the wall conduction is thought to take place instead. Experimental analyses are also carried out. The amount of the latent heat stored is obtained by recording the time wisely changing side area of the solid paraffin photographically. The mass of paraffin melted in the upper section is obtained by substracting the amount of melted mass in the lower section from the total mass melted and therefrom variation of heat transfer rate in each section is studied.

The constrained melting inside an isothermally heated horizontal cylinder has been repeatedly investigated in many studies only for the moderate Rayleigh numbers. This study extends the range of Rayleigh numbers to systematically investigate the transition during melting processes, especially focusing on the complex multi-cellular flow pattern and thermal instability. The enthalpy-porosity formulation, with appropriate source terms to account for the phase change, is employed. For low Rayleigh numbers, initially developed single-cell base flow keeps the flow stable. For moderate Rayleigh numbers, even small disturbances in balance between thermal buoyance force and viscous force result in branched flow structure. For high Rayleight numbers, Benard type convection is found to develop within a narrow gap between thee wall and the unmelted solid. The marginal Rayleigh number and the corresponding wave number are in excellent agreement with those from linear stability theory.
With uniform heat generation within the wall of the cylinder placed in a cross flow, heat flows by conduction in the circumferential direction due to the asymmetric nature of the fluid flow around the perimeter of the cylinder. The circumferential heat flow affects the wall temperature distribution to such an extent that in some cases significantly different results may be obtained for geometrically similar surfaces. In the present investigation, the effects of circumferential wall heat conduction on local convective heat transfer is investigated for the case of forced convection around horizontal cylinder in cross flow of air. Two-dimensional temperature distribution $T_w$/(${\gamma}$,${\theta}$) is presented through the numerical analysis. The one-dimensional and two-dimensional solutions are in good agreement with experimental results of local heat transfer coefficients.
A time domain finite element based method is employed to analyze wave radiation by multiple cylinders. The nonlinear free surface and body surface boundary conditions are satisfied based on the perturbation method up to the second order. The first- and second-order velocity potential problems at each time step are solved through a finite element method (FEM). The matrix equation of the FEM is solved through an iteration and the initial solution is obtained from the result at the previous time step. The three-dimensional (3D) mesh required is generated based on a two-dimensional (2D) hybrid mesh on a horizontal plane and its extension in the vertical direction. The hybrid mesh is generated by combining an unstructured grid away from cylinders and two structured grids near the cylinder and the artificial boundary, respectively. The fluid velocity on the free surface and the cylinder surface are calculated by using a differential method. Results for various configurations including two-cylinder and four-cylinder cases are provided to show the mutual influence due to cylinders on the first and second waves and forces.

A fluid flow inside a circular cylinder subject to horizontal, circular oscillation is analyzed numerically and experimentally. The steady streaming velocities at the edges of the boundary layers on the bottom and side surfaces of the cylinder obtained in the previous paper are used as the boundary conditions in the governing equations for the steady flow motion in the interior region. The Stokes' drift velocity obtained in the previous paper also constitutes the Lagrangian velocity which is used in the momentum equations. It turns out that the interior steady flow is composed of one cell, ascending at the center and descending near the side surface, at the streaming Reynolds number 2500. However, at the streaming Reynolds number 25, the flow field is divided into two cells resulting in a descending flow at the center. The experimentally visualized flow patterns at the bottom surface agree well with the analytical solutions. The visualization experiment also confirms the flow direction as well as the center position of the cell obtained by the numerical solutions.
Finite element buckling analysis of insulated transition flue ducts is carried out to determine the critical buckling load multipliers when subjected to axial compression for design process. Through this investigation, the results of numerical computations to examine the buckling strength for different possible duct shapes (cylinder, and circular-to-square) are presented. The load multipliers are determined through detailed buckling analysis taking into account the effects of geometrical construction and duct plate thickness which have great influence on the buckling load. Enhancement in the buckling capacity of such ducts by the addition of horizontal and vertical stiffeners is also investigated. Several models with varying dimensions and plate thicknesses are examined to obtain the linear buckling capacities against duct dimensions. The percentage improvement in the buckling capacity due to the addition of vertical stiffeners and horizontal Stiffeners is shown to be as high as three times for some cases. The study suggests that the best location of the horizontal stiffener is at 0.25 of duct depth from the bottom to achieve the maximum buckling capacity. A design equation estimating the buckling strength of geometrically perfect cylindrical-to-square shell is developed by using regression analysis accurately with approximately 4% errors.
The physical model considered here is a horizontal layer of fluid heated below and cooled above with a periodic array of evenly spaced square cylinders placed at the center of the layer, whose aspect ratio here varies from unity to twelve. Periodic boundary condition is employed along the horizontal direction to allow for lateral freedom for the convection cells. Two-dimensional solution for unsteady natural convection is obtained using an accurate and efficient Chebyshev spectral multi-domain methodology for a given Rayleigh numbers of $10^{6}$.
A numerical calculation with the commercial computational fluid dynamics code CFX-14.0 was conducted for a test facility simulating the Canadian deuterium uranium moderator thermal-hydraulic. Two kinds of moderator thermal-hydraulic tests at Stern Laboratories Inc. were performed in the full geometric configuration of the Canadian deuterium uranium moderator circulating vessel, which is called a calandria tank, housing a matrix of horizontal rod bundles simulating calandria tubes. The first of these tests is the pressure drop measurement of a cross flow in the horizontal rod bundles. The other is the local temperature measurement on the cross section of the horizontal cylinder vessel simulating the calandria system. In the present study, the full geometric details of the calandria tank are incorporated in the grid generation of the computational domain to which the boundary conditions for each experiment are applied. The numerical solutions are reviewed and compared with the available test data.

The spinning machine has been developed for a bus and truck wheel disc which is manufactured by spinning process method. This machine has the mechanical structure with bed, 2-column, cross head, 2-vertical slide, 2-horizontal slide with forming roller, clamp slide and main spindle similar to large size vertical lathe. Main spindle attached the mandrel is rotated about 500rpm drived by 280kW power DC motor, and a rotating black material pressed on the mandrel with the clamp slide is spinformed by 2-forming rollers which are attached inner end of the 2-horizontal slides. The 2-vertical and 2-horizontal slides are actuated by the hydraulic cylinder which is controlled by the servo valve individially, and these servo valves are controlled by control signal of the CNC controller which is computed with position signal feedbacked from the encoder sensor. The developed machine can manufacture wheel disc of various section profile without mandrel change because section profile is easily modified using program editing in the CNC controller processor. The wheel disc manufactured by spinning process method has many advantages that the endurance is increased by 2 times and the weight is decreased by 30% compared with a conventional disc.
