  • Purpose: Lately, The mixed use development on railroad site came up in government policy about securing development available land for public rental housing and social cohesion. The Purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial composition characteristic in housing development example of domestic and foreign through the mixed-use development of railway depot. Method: Site cases are as follows: Shimura Depot(Japan), Kowloon Bay Depot(Hongkong), Chai Wan Depot (Hongkong), Tsuen Wan Depot(Hongkong), Montparnasse Station(France), Euralille Depot(France), Sin Jeong Depot (Korea), Tai Wai Depot(Hongkong), Tseung Kwan O Depot(Hongkong) and Rive Gauche(France). Railway Depot caused various problems such as the lacking of the feeling of solidarity of local inhabitants and the sense of community. In the case of Hong Kong and a France development example to solve these problems, the architectural characteristics appears. Result: At first it is located facilities together such as commerce, duties, the culture. Further, the publicity of the house place is strengthened because an open space, a park are developed on the railroad site. And a variety of connection systems appear between the outside space with a house housing complex built on the artificial ground. Particularly, the development example has an approach and convenience, and it was confirmed that publicness was considerably high.

Specially, there were two kinds of basic rice powder one was rice powder in dry and the other was rice juice grinded with water on the millstone. Rice juices were named in China, MeeChang, in Manila, Galapong, in Bangkok, rice powder. 2. The kinds and numbers of steamed rice cakes were the most available in all investicated area. In Hongkong, Bangkok, ChiengMai, and Manila, beatened or kneaded rice cakes could not be seen almost. Only in Hongkong and Bangkok, fried rice cakes were available, while in Japan, boiled rice cakes were not seen almost, and also baked rice cakes were not seen in Korea, Hongkong, Bali, Jakarta. 3. In the east-south Asian area, except rice and glutinous rice, coconut and palm fruits and banana were using in recipies of rice cakes and cookies. They gave soft and tender mouth feeling, white color, and good emulsifying status. 4. The kinds and numbers of rice cookies were the most available in Bangkok, but in Bali and Jakarta, the least. The cookies of Japan had similar texture and shape to rice cake while most of cookies in Hongkong were fried in oils. In Korea, the kinds and numbers of rice cookies were less than those of rice cakes.

  • Based on twelve observational stations low meteorological visibility (LMV) data during November 2002 to April 2003, the spatial distribution of LMV over Hongkong area (113.8$^{\circ}$ E-114.4$^{\circ}$ E, 22.1$^{\circ}$ N-22.4$^{\circ}$ N) is studied, using a PCA method. Optical spectrum of NOAA-16 associated with LMV shows that the significant effect factors correlated with LMV in the leading mode are the difference or rate between the visible and near-IR channels and single visible channel. A successful retrieval of LMV is done and a regression equation with a multiple correlation coefficient of 0.67 is obtained.

  • A ground treatment work for Hongkong container terminal yard is reported as a case study of site formation work with full dredging and replacement method. Ground treatment work adopting surcharge and deep compaction (vibroflotation) were applied to improve the sand creep potential. The sand creep parameter of 0 25% was assumed in design stage and improved up to 0.05% and 0.02% after surcharge and deep compaction respectively
