  • Shaped Charge's penetration performance is depended on the shape of warhead and explosive, liner materials. The liner that manufactured to small homogeneous grain increase the penetration performance and decrease the deviation of penetration performance. This texture is obtained by forging process but, creating the process that remove crack and get small homogeneous grain is very hard. In this study, We success to get the homogeneous small grain texture through appling the most suitable process by DEFORM CODE analysis.

  • Multi-axial forging (MAF), a severe plastic deformation technique, is known to be difficult to obtain materials with homogeneous microstructures. Recently, multi-axial diagonal forging (MADF) process has been developed to solve this problem. In this study, in order to compare the microstructural and mechanical homogeneities of the MAFed and MADFed samples, oxygen-free copper (OFC) cubes measuring 25 mm in length were deformed through MAF and MADF processes and the average grain size and hardness were measured at the edge, face, and center regions of the samples. In the MAFed samples, ultrafine grains were formed at the center region, but a considerable amount of coarse grains remain at the face region. Therefore, the MAFed samples showed a high inhomogeneity in regards to grain size and hardness. On the contrary, in the case of the MADFed sample, the grain sizes at the edge, face, and center regions were similar and the hardness in all the regions are almost similar. This indicates that the MADFed sample has a homogeneous microstructure and uniform mechanical properties, which can be attributed to the homogeneous distribution of the effective strain throughout the material. The results of this study suggests that the MADF is a suitable process in the fabrication of high-strength copper materials with a homogeneous and ultrafine grain structure.

  • Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is a promising method for drastically enhancing the mechanical properties of the materials by grain refinement of metallic materials. However, inhomogeneous deformation during the SPD process results in the inhomogeneous microstructure of the SPD-processed material. We manufactured cylindrical copper specimens of 42 mm in diameter with ultrafine grains (UFG) using an equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) to figure out the relationship between homogeneous microstructure and the number of the processing passes. Two specimens, which are ECAP-processed 4 times (4pass) and 6 times (6pass) each with Route Bc, are prepared for comparison of mechanical properties and microstructure. The results show that the mechanical properties of the two specimens (4pass and 6pass) are similar. Moreover, both the specimens show highly enhanced mechanical properties. The 4pass specimen, however, shows inhomogeneity in hardness distribution, while the 6pass specimen shows a homogeneous distribution. Microstructure analysis reveals that the 4pass specimen has an inhomogeneous microstructure with incompletely refined grain structure. This inhomogeneity of the 4pass specimen could be explained by the circumferential rotation during ECAP process.

  • The evaluation of plasma resistance and the characteristics of yttria ceramics fabricated by calcination yttria as a starting material without dopants under an oxidation atmosphere was investigated. Regardless of the starting materials, as-received, and calcined yttria powder, XRD patterns showed that all samples have $Y_2O_3$ phase. The three cycling process inhibited a large grain, which occurs frequently during the yttria sintering, and a high density ceramic with a homogeneous grain size was obtained. The grain size of the sintered ceramic was affected by the starting powders. The smaller the grain size, the larger were the Young's modulus and KIC. Compared to $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$ ceramics, yttria ceramics showed a 3 times larger plasma resistance and a 1.4~2.2 times lower weight loss during the plasma etching test, respectively.

  • A material model has been presented, at the continuum level, for the representation of superplastic deformation coupled with microstructural evolution. The model presented enables the effects of the spatial variation of distributions of grain size to be predicted at the process level. The model has been tested under conditions of both homogeneous and inhomogeneous stress and strain by carrying out detailed comparison of predicted distributions of grain size and their evolutions with experimentally obtained data. Experimental measurements have shown the extent of the spatial variation of the distribution of grain size that exists in the titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V. It is shown that whilst not large, the variations in grain size distributions are sufficient to lead to the development of inhomogeneous deformation in test pieces, which ultimately result in localisation of strain and failure.

  • A study has been performed on the effect of TMT(thermomechanical treatment) on the mechanical properties of steel and aluminum alloys. Improvement of the mechanical properties on steel by HTMT is due to refinement of prior austenite grain size, martensite lath size and the distribution of fine carbide precipitates and on aluminum alloy by ITMT is due to grain size refinement, homogeneous distribution of small second phase particles and retardation of the recrystallization.

  • A study was made to investigate microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of ultra-fine grained (UFG) pure-Ti produced by equal channel angular (ECA) pressings. The deformed structures were analyzed by finite element method and transmission electron microscopy with the increment of straining. After 4 isothermal ECA pressings, initial coarse grains ($30{\mu}m$) were significantly refined to ${\sim}0.3{\mu}m$ with homogeneous distribution of microstructure which was resulted from $180^{\circ}$ rotation of the sample between pressings. UFG pure-Ti exhibited the considerable improvement in yield strength while losing strain hardening capacity as compared to coarse grained microstructure at ambient temperature, which was mainly attributed to ultra-fine grain microstructure with non-equilibrium grain boundaries.

  • SiC particles reinforced Mg-Zr, Mg-Zn and Mg-Zn-Zr composites were manufactured by Rheocompocasting method. Effects of Zn, Zr addition on microstructures and hardness were investigated by using the micro Vickers hardness tester, the optical and scanning electron microscopy. By the Zr addition to the pureMg/SiCp composites, SiC particles become more homogeneously dispersed and grain refined so that the micro hardness of the composite increased. In case of Zn addition, although grain refinement and homogeneous dispersion effects of SiC particles were not obtained, hardness was more increased than the only Zr added composite by the formation of many Mg-Zn intermetallic compounds at grain boundary. In the Mg-Zn-Zr/SiCp composite, the highest value of hardness was obtained by triple effects such as grain refining, dispersion hardening of SiC particles and Mg-Zn compounds.

The composition of pure ZnO varistor was observed composition was inhibited owing to formation of Zn7Sb2O12 spinel phase and did not observed abnrmal grain growth. • Microstructure and hardness of metallic powder of Cu was studied after high pressure torsion (HPT) with 10 torsions and high pressure of 6 GPa. The size Cu grain decreases drastically after HPT and reaches the nano size range. During HPT, Cu powder increases hardness and Hall-Petch hardening, due to the decreasing grain size. In this study, effect of HPT on the hardness of Cu powders and consolidation with Nanocrystalline of the work reported here. The results indicated that Cu powder has a beneficial effect on homogeneous deformation, reducing grain size.
