Application of Polymer Brush to Enzyme-Multilayered Porous Hollow-Fiber Membrane

  • Anion-exchange porous hollow-fiber membranes with a thickness of about 1.2 mm and a pore size of about $0.30{\mu}m$ were used as a supporting matrix to immobilize cycloisomaltooligosaccharide glucanotransferase (CITase). CITase was immobilized to the membrane via anion-exchange adsorption and by subsequent enzymatic cross-linking with transglutaminase, the amount of which ranged from 3 to 110 mg per g of the membrane. The degree of enzyme multilayer binding was equivalent to 0.3 to 9.8. Dextran, as the substrate, was converted into seven- to nine-glucose-membered cycloisomaltooligosaccharides (CI-7, -8, and -9) at a maxi mum yield of $28\%$ in weight at a space velocity of 10 per hour during the permeation of $2.0(w/w)\%$ dextran solution across the CITase-immobilized porous hollow-fiber membrane.

Modelling of headed stud in steel-precast composite beams

  • Use of composite steel construction with precast hollow core slabs is now popular in the UK, but the present knowledge in shear capacity of the headed shear studs for this type of composite construction is very limited. Currently, all the information is based on the results obtained from experimental push-off tests. A finite element model to simulate the behaviour of headed stud shear connection in composite beam with precast hollow core slabs is described. The model is based on finite element method and takes into account the linear and non-linear behaviour of all the materials. The model has been validated against the test results, for which the accuracy of the model used is demonstrated. Parametric studies showing the effect of the change in transverse gap size, transverse reinforcement diameter and in-situ concrete strength on the shear connection capacity are presented.

정상 할로우 콘 분무와 환형 공기 제트의 상호작용에 관한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Investigation of a Steady Non-Evaporating Hollow-Cone Spray Interacting with an Annular Air Jet)

  • Numerical simulation of steady, non-evaporating hollow-cone sprays interacting with concentric annular air jets is performed using the discrete stochastic particle method in KIVA. The spray characteristics such as SMD, mean droplet velocity, liquid volume flux, air/liquid mass ratio, and droplet number density arc obtained and compared with the measurements involving different air flow rates in large and small annuli. Overall satisfactory agreement is achieved between calculation and experiment except for the deviation in the downstream SMD arising from uncertainty in the size distribution function at injection, and inaccuracy in the averaged spray parameters due to the small volumes of axisymmetric 2-D sector meshes close to the axis.

세노스피어(Cenosphere)의 입도 분포에 따른 물리적 특성 및 광학적 특성 평가 (The Effect of Particle Size Distribution on the Physical and Optical Properties of Cenosphere)

  • Recycled cenosphere, which is a hollow shaped particle from fly ash, has become attractive as a building material due to its light weight and excellent heat insulation and soundproof properties. In this paper, we investigated the effect of cenosphere size on the physical and optical properties. High brightness of cenosphere as raw material is required for a wide range of ceramics applications, particularly in fields of building materials and industrial ceramic tiles. Cenospheres were sorted by particle size; the microstructure was analyzed according to the cenosphere size distribution. Cenospheres were generally composed of quartz, mullite, and amorphous phase. Colour measurement corresponding to chemical composition revealed that the contents of iron oxide and carbon in the cenospheres were the major factors determining the brightness of the cenospheres.

  • 고주파를 이용하여 금속 표면의 원형 프레스 결함, 원형 관통 결함 및 선형 프레스 결함 등을 조사하였다. 본 실험에서는 3kHz 변조된 9.2GHz의 주파수를 사용했으며, 조사 방법으로는 반사법, 투과법, 주파수 고정법 등을 이용하였다. 고주파가 원형 프레스 결함과 원형 관통 결함에서 반사 신호의 크기가 큰 폭으로 변했다. 원형 프레스 결함에서는 반사신호에 의한 결함의 크기가 원래 크기의 2.5배로 확대되어 측정되었으며, 원형 관통 결함에서는 결함의 크기가 두 배로 확대되어 측정되었다. 또한, 선형 결함에서 고주파 반사신호의 크기는 결함폭의 증가와 함께 커졌으며, 결함 깊이가 2.4mm일 때 결함폭이 50mm에서, 결함 깊이가 1.2mm 및 0.45mm에서는 결함폭이 55mm일 때 각각 최대값을 나타냈다.

Two New Sponges of the Genus Halichondria(Halichondrida: Halichondriidae) from Korea

  • Two new marine sponges in the family Halichondriidae, Halichondria gageoenesis n. sp. and Halichondria muanensis n. sp. are collected from Gageodo Island and Yongjeong-ri, Hyeongyeong-myeon, Muan-gun, Korea during 2006-2007. H. gageoenesis n. sp. is similar to H. oshoro(Tanita, 1961) in type of spicule, but is different from the latter in growth form and size of spicule. The oxea of the new species is larger than H. oshoro's. The growth form of H. gageoenesis n. sp. is thick and consists of encrusting with numerous erect hollow cylindrical tubes, but H. oshoro is of massive form. H. muanensis n. sp is similar to H. retiderma(Dendy, 1921) in type of spicule and choanosomal skeleton, but it is different from the latter in growth form and size of spicule. The oxea is smaller than that of H. retiderma. The growth form is thick and consists of encrusting, with numerous erect hollow cylindrical tubes, compared with the massive lobose of H. retiderma.

High-Density Hollow Cathode Plasma Etching for Field Emission Display Applications

  • This paper investigates the characteristics of a newly developed high density hollow cathode plasma(HCP) system and its application for the etching of silicon wafers. We used $SF_6$ and $O_2$ gases in the HCP dry etch process. This paper demonstrates very high plasma density of $2{\times}10^{12}cm^{-3}$ at a discharge current of 20 rna, Silicon etch rate of 1.3 ${\mu}m$/min was achieved with $SF_6/O_2$ plasma conditions of total gas pressure of 50 mTorr, gas flow rate of 40 seem, and RF power of200W. This paper presents surface etching characteristics on a crystalline silicon wafer and large area cast type multicrystlline silicon wafer. We obtained field emitter tips size of less than 0.1 ${\mu}m$ without any photomask step as well as with a conventional photolithography. Our experimental results can be applied to various display systems such as thin film growth and etching for TFT-LCDs, emitter tip formations for FEDs, and bright plasma discharge for PDP applications. In this research, we studied silicon etching properties by using the hollow cathode plasma system.

  • The removal of dissolved oxygen(DO) from water was studied using a poly(vinyliene fluoride)(PVDF) hollow fiber membrane contactor(HFMC) with the vacuum degassing process(VDP), Asymmetric porous PVDF hollow fiber membranes (HFM) for membrane contactor were prepared by a wet phase inversion method. In spinning of these PVDF hollow fibers, dimethy lacetamide (DMAc), LiCl and pure water were used as a solvent, a pore-forming additive and internal/external coagulant, respectively. The characteristics of the structure(pore size, porosity etc.) of the prepared PVDF HFMs as a function of concentration of pore-forming additive in polymer dope solution were studied. Also, the removal efficiency of DO from water according to flow rates of water, using PVDF HFMC with VDP, was studied. The performance of the asymmetric porous PVDF HFMC and a symmetric porous PP HFMC commercialized were compared. As a result, the asymmetric porous PVDF HFMC showed higher removal efficiency of DO than that of a symmetric porous PP HFMC.

Finite-element analysis and design of aluminum alloy RHSs and SHSs with through-openings in bending

  • This paper presents a finite-element analysis (FEA) of aluminum alloy rectangular hollow sections (RHSs) and square hollow sections (SHSs) with circular through-openings under three-point and four-point bending. First, a finite-element model (FEM) was developed and validated against the corresponding test results available in the literature. Next, using the validated FE models, a parametric study comprising 180 FE models was conducted. The cross-section width-to-thickness ratio (b/t) ranged from 2 to 5, the hole size ratio (d/h) ranged from 0.2 to 0.8 and the quantity of holes (n) ranged from 2 to 6, respectively. Third, results obtained from laboratory test and FEA were compared with current design strengths calculated in accordance with the North American Specifications (NAS), the modified direct strength method (DSM) and the modified Continuous strength method (CSM). The comparison shows that the modified CSM are conservative by 15% on average for aluminum alloy RHSs and SHSs with circular through-openings subject to bending. Finally, a new design equation is proposed based on the modified CSM after being validated with results obtained from laboratory test and FEA. The proposed design equation can provide accurate predictions of flexural capacities for aluminum alloy RHSs and SHSs with circular through-openings.

중간세공을 갖는 껍질로 구성된 속이 빈 마이크로 탄소입자의 합성 및 이들의 전기화학적 특성 (Synthesis of Hollow Carbon Microspheres with Mesoporous Shell and Vacant Core Structure and Their Electrochemical Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 구형의 폴리스티렌 구슬을 틀로 사용하여, 크기분포가 좁으면서 속은 비어있고 벽이 다공성인 구조의 탄소 마이크로 캡슐을 합성하였다. 폴리스티렌의 표면은 무기물인 실리카졸이 쉽게 입혀질 수 있도록 폴리비닐피롤리돈(PVP)을 코팅하여 변조하였다. PVP가 코팅된 PS 마이크로 입자표면에 SBA-16 졸을 부착시킨 다음, 실리카층에 존재하는 중간 크기의 세공 내에 탄소원을 채워 넣는 음각식 형뜨기법을 적용함으로써 속이 빈 구조의 탄소 마이크로캡슐을 제조하였다. 탄화과정을 거치고 틀로 사용한 다공성 실리카입자를 HF로 용해하면, 좁은 입자크기분포를 갖는 중간세공이 함유된 계란껍질형의 탄소입자를 얻을 수 있었다. 계란껍질형 탄소 마이크로캡슐 입자의 다공성과 전기화학적 특성은 XRD, SEM, TEM, 질소분자 흡/탈착분석법 및 cyclic voltammetry법으로 평가하였다. 이들 탄소입자는 슈퍼캐패시터와 같은 전자재료로서 유효하게 사용될 만한 높은 전기전도도와 용량을 나타내었다.
