Effective Water Treatment Process by Hollow Fiber MF Membranes; VAS(Vibrating & Stripping by Air ) Process (에너지절약형 VSA MF Membrane 수처리 시스템)

  • MF membrane element was specially designed for water purification and VSA process which can solve the fouling problem. Especially VSA process is developed for the SK Chemicals' asymmetric microfiltration hollow fiber membranes. In case of outside-to-in filtration process, MF membrane element showed the excellent flux stability caused by cleaning ability of VSA process . Simultaneous back-washing with VSA consideratbly enhances cleaning efficiency. From the result the possibility of the replacement of chemical coagulation and sand filtration process with newly developed VSA process was revealed.

  • The hollow stalk, caused by Erwinia carotovors var. carotovora, is probaly the most devastating disease to burley tobacco in Korea. There are two modes of infection to tobacco plants: the primary infection along the plant stem from soil and the secondary one from the topped end of plants. The secondary infection rate could be reduced to almost zero by applying an antibiotic, streptomycin sulfate(400 ppm solution), right after topping.

Surgical correction of funnel chest (누두흉 치험 2예)

  • Two patients with funnel chest deformity were corrected at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Chungnam National University Hospital . The first case was 11 year old boy, suffering from exertional dyspnea with asymmetrical funnel chest deformity, of which hollow cavity was measured 80 ml of water. The second case was 6 year old boy, suffering from frequent upper respiratory tract infection with symmetrical funnel chest deformity, of which hollow cavity was measured 50 ml of water. These two cases were corrected by Ravitch method, left lower lobectomy was performed concurrently on the first case. The result was satisfactory.

  • Two patients with funnel chest deformity were corrected at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Chosun University Hospital. The first case was 5 year old boy, suffering cosmetic deformity, of which hollow cavity was measured 25ml of water. He was corrected by modified Ravitch method. The second case was 12 year old boy, suffering from exertional dyspnea with symmetrical funnel chest deformity, of which hollow cavity was measured 55ml of water. He was corrected by method of sternal turnover. The surgical results of these cases were satisfactory.

  • Trilayer graphene에 비활성기체 중 하나인 Ne 원자가 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해 density functional theory calculation을 이용해서 연구하였다. ABA stacked trilayer graphene의 $4{\times}4$ super cell에서 top surface에 adsorption되는 경우와 trilayer 내부에 intercalation 되는 경우에 대하여 energy를 계산하여 Ne 원자들의 안정한 위치를 찾았다. Adsorption의 경우 hollow site가 가장 안정하였고 intercalation의 경우에도 top layer의 hollow site의 아래가 가장 안정하였다. 또한 Ne 원자 2개가 adsorption되는 경우의 adsorption energy를 통하여 Ne 원자들 사이의 상호작용을 예측하였다.

  • Titanium carbide(TiC) films, known as having excellent characteristics of resistance to wear and corrosion, were deposited on SUS-304 sheets using HCD(Hollow Cathode Discharge) reactive ion plating with acetylene gas as the reactant gas. The characteristics of TiC films were examined by X-ray diffraction, micro-Vickers hardness tester, ${\alpha}$-step, SEM(Scanning Electron Spectroscopy), ESCA(Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis), and AES(Auger Electron Spectroscopy) and the results were discussed with regard to the changes of various deposition conditions(bias voltage, acetylene flow rate, temperature).

  • A hollow cathode which has extremely stable discharge characteristic has been developed. This is composed of the two separated lanthanum hexaboride ($LaB_6$) of a disk type in the tube as the electron emitters. The way of design is of great advantage to extend the surface discharge area of the $LaB_6$, which is also useful for optimal fixing of the $LaB_6$. The hollow cathode is capable of producing 30 kW (100 V, 300 A) of power continuously.
