Numerical investigation based on the control-volume using finite-difference method has been made by the development of computer program in order to figure out the pattern of the flow field inside screw decanter. The typical flow pattern inside screw decanter is characterized by the two strong recirculation zones separated by the main stream from slurry discharge hole to exit. These recirculation regions and flow pattern are strongly influenced by the centrifugal force and the change of the value of slurry viscosities, that is,500, 1,000 and 3,000cp respectively. The wear of screw decanter appeared experimentally in two spots; one is near the circumferential area of the slurry discharge hole and the other is on the decanter blades at a certain height from the bottom to a different degree after the continuous long-term operation. These wears are partly explained by the flow pattern and the strong turbulence intensity near the recirculation attachment region.
The design criteria of ventilating container is not provided yet in Korea. This caused strength reduction due to the ventilating hole and bad ventilating performance. The purposes of this study were to survey the present situation of ventilating container in Korea, to analyze the strength reduction on the atmosphere condition variation, and to provide the criteria for the optimum design of ventilating container. The ventilating area of container was $1.41{\sim}2.65%$, and strength reduction due to the varied pattern, size and location of ventilating hole was $8.5{\sim}20.2%$. The effect on the strength reduction from the pattern and location of ventilating hole was bigger than that from the ventilating area. Equilibrium arrival time of temperature and relative humidity was shorter as the ventilating area was bigger, and temperature reached to the equilibrium state earlier than the relative humidity. There was no significant difference on the ventilating hole pattern between equilibrium arrival time of temperature and relative humidity and equilibrium arrival temperature and relative humidity if the ventilating area was the same.
Corrugated board is composed of cellulose fibers which are arranged with the same direction as the board manufactured. The direction is classified with machine direction (MD) and cross-machine direction (CD). Therefore, corrugated board is orthotropic material that has totally different strength properties at each direction and especially, at machine direction, the mechanical properties of fiberboard is superior. The compression strength of the corrugated fiberboard boxes is very important information to the manufacturers and the end users. This study was carried out to design the optimum pattern, size, and location of ventilating hole for ventilating container through the finite element analysis. The optimum pattern and location of ventilating and hand hole were vertical oblong, a short distance to the right and left from the center of panel, and center or a short distance to the top of both sides, respectively. We identified the effect on both stress dispersion and stress level from the analysis of redisigned hand hole.
An experimental study has been carried out to investigate an I-type sparger-performance in view of pressure oscillation and thermal mixing in a pool. Its pitch-to-hole diameter, P/D, varies from 2 to 5. The test conditions are restricted to the condensation oscillation regime. In the present study, two different hole patterns, staggered and parallel types, are employed under various test conditions. The amplitude of the pressure pulse shows a peak for pool temperatures of 45∼85$\^{C}$, which depends on P/D and the steam mass flux. The effect of hole pattern on the pressure load is smaller than that of P/D. The dominant frequency increases with the subcooling temperature of pool water and P/D. A correlation for the dominant frequency is proposed in terms of the pitch-to-hole diameter ratio and other dimensionless thermal hydraulic parameters.
The CFRP composite has unique properties that offer high strength and stiffness, even though it has light weight. Therefore it can be used in many industrial applications. When mechanical fasteners are used for joining composites, high stress concentrations appear near the edge of holes prepared for accommodating structural bolts and rivets. This presence of high stress concentrations can be a source of damage. The aim of this work is to evaluate fracture behavior and patterns of plain woven CFRP with circular hole and repairing patch element. The maximum strength and pattern for the plain woven carbon composite specimen with the repaired circular hole were examined. From the results, we show that repairing of the CFRP composite specimen with ($\pi$) 3~5 mm of circular hole diameter results in load rising effect and the repairing is more effective as bigger hole specimen.
Hole flanging experiments are performed on flat circular plates with a hole in the center and the flangeability and fracture behaviors of TRIP steels and ferrite-Bainite duplex steels were examined. In the hole flanging, deformation by lip and petalling occurs when plates are struck by punches of various shapes and high circumferential strains induced in the target material cause radial cracking and the subsequent rotation of the affected plate material in a number of symmetric petals. In all cases, failure of the plate was due to lip fracture that results from multiple localized neckings that take place around the hole periphery where straining is most severe and a somewhat regular pattern was observed in a fracture shape. The neck characteristics in flange formation and the transition from the lip to petal mode at which fracture occurs were compared with two materials.

For measuring friction factor of artificially-roughened surfaces which are usually applied to damper seals, flat plate test apparatus is designed and fabricated. The measurements of leakage flow and pressure distribution through round-hole patterned specimen with different hole areas are described, and a method is discussed for determining the friction factor experimentally. Results show that the friction factor of the round-hole patterned surface is bigger than that of smooth surface, and increases as increasing the hole area. A empirical friction factor model for the round-hole patterned surface can be descrived by the Moody's friction factor formula.
This paper is dedicated to the buckling behaviors of strengthened perforated plates under edge shear loading, which is a typical load pattern of steel plates in civil engineering, especially in plate and box girders. The square plates considered each has a centric circular hole and is simply supported on four edges in the out-of-plane direction. Three types of strengthening stiffeners named ringed stiffener (RS), flat stiffener (FSA and FSB) and strip stiffener (SSA, SSB and SSC) are mainly discussed. The finite element method (FEM) has been employed to analyse the elastic and elasto-plastic buckling behavior of unstrengthened and strengthened perforated plates. Results show that most of the strengthened perforated plates behave higher buckling strengths than the unstrengthened ones, while the enhancements in elastic buckling stress and elasto-plastic ultimate strength are closely related to stiffener types as well as plate geometric parameters including plate slenderness ratio and hole diameter to plate width ratio. The critical slenderness ratios of shear loaded strengthened perforated plates, which determine the practical buckling pattern (i.e., elastic or elasto-plastic buckling) of the plates, are also studied. Based on the contrastive analyses of strengthening efficiency considering the influence of stiffener consumption, the most efficient cutout-strengthening methods for shear loaded perforated square plates with different slenderness ratios and circular hole diameter to plate width ratios are preliminarily identified.

The effect of activation and electroless nickel plating conditions on contact properties was investi-gated for selective electroless nickel plating of Si wafers in order to obtain an optimum condition of con-tact hole filling. According to RCA prosess, p-type silicon (100) surface was cleaned out and activated. The effects of temperature, DMAB concentration, time, and strirring were investigated for activation of p-type Si(100) surface. The optimal activation condition was 0.2M HF, 1mM PdCl2, 2mM EDTA,$ 70^{\circ}C$, and 90sec under ultrasonic vibration. In electroless nickel plating, the effect of temperature, DMAB concentra-tion, pH, and plating time were studied. The optimal plating condition found was 0.10M NiSO4.H2O, 0.11M Citrate, pH 6.8, $60^{\circ}C$, 30minutes. The contact resistance of films was comparatively low. It took 30minutes to obtain 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ thick film with 8mM DMAB concentration. The film surface roughness was improved with decreasing temperature and decreasing pH of the plating solution. The best quality of the film was obtained at the condition of temperature $60^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.0. The micro-vickers hardness of film was about 800Hv. Plating rate of nickel on the hole pattern was slower than that of nickel on the line pattern.

Electrodeionization is a hybrid separation process of electrodialysis and ion exchange to produce high purity water under electric field. This article provides a fabrication result of hole patterned metal electrode for elecrodeionization system. The hole patterns have been fabricated by nanosphere lithography (NSL). The technique utilizes the self-assembled nanospheres as lens-mask patterns and collimated laser beam source. The hole patterns have a periodic array structure. The images of hole pattern on metal electrode prepared were observed by SEM. We believe that the periodic hole patterned metal electrode structure is a useful device applicable for metal mat electrode in electrodeionization system.
