Half-metallic Heusler alloys (NiMnSb, ppdMnSb, pptMnSb) have attracted much attention due to their unique electronic and magnetic structures. Sppin-ppolarized band structure calculation ppredicts metallic behavior for the majority sppin states and semiconductor behavior for the minority sppin states. We have studied the electronic structures of these half-metallic Heusler alloys by core-level pphotoemission sppectroscoppy of Mn 2pp and 3s XppS sppectra. We found large intensities of Mn 2pp satellites and 3s exchange spplitting comppared with other metal Mn-alloys. These satellite structure can be understood by applying Anderson imppurity model. This fact supports the calculated sppin pprojected ppartial density of states which suggests that the valence electrons be highly sppin ppolarized near Fermi level and that the electrons involved with charge-transfer be mainly minority sppin ones which have semiconducting band structure. The trend of charge transfer energies Δ from ligands (Sb 5pp) to Mn 3d, obtained from our model fitting, is consistent with that calculated from sppin pprojected ppartial density of state. Also the trend of d-d electron correlation energies U calculated from Mn Auger line L3 VV by Mg $K\alpha$ source is comppatible with that resulted from our model fitting. We fitted the Mn 3s curve in the same way as for insulating Mn comppounds by using the same pparameters calculated from Mn 2pp curve fitting exceppt for the Coulomb interaction energy Q between core hole and d-electrons. The 3s sppectra were analyzed by combing the charge transfer model and a simpple model taking into account the configuration mixing effect due to the intra-shell correlation. We found that the exchange interaction between 3s hole and 3d electrons is mainly respponsible for the satellite of Mn 3s sppectra. This is consistent with the neutron scattering data, which suggests local 3d magnetic moment. We find that the XppS analysis results of Mn 2pp and 3s satellite structures of half-metallic Heusler alloys are very similar to those of insulating transition metal comppounds.

Sound absorbing materials are being developed in various materials and shapes and they are being applied in many fields such as construction, transportation, civil engineering, and sound. Among many sound-absorbing materials, polyester fiber has no environmental problems and harmfulness, and is a material with good sound absorption properties while being inexpensive. So it is manufactured as a nonwoven sound-absorbing material and used in various fields. In this study, polyester dry-laid nonwoven with different basis weight were manufactured using three types of polyester staple fibers: regular solid, single-hole hollow, and low linear density. We focused on the effects of the properties of the fibers, which constitute nonwovens, on the sound absorption properties, and we considered the basis weight. As the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric increased, the pore size became smaller and the air permeability was lowered, but the sound absorption coefficient was higher. However, the single-hole hollow polyester fiber did not contribute to the increase of the sound absorption coefficient of the nonwoven. It was established that, lower fiber fineness caused the sound absorption coefficient of the nonwoven to be increased. It was also found that the increase in the sound absorption coefficient due to the application of low fineness appeared from a certain basis weight or more.
We investigate the role of small-scale and large-scale environments in triggering nuclear activity of the local galaxies using a volume-limited sample with $M_r$ < -19.5 and 0.02 < z < 0.0685 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. To fix the mass of the supermassive black hole in its host galaxy, we limit the central velocity dispersion of the sample galaxies. The active galactic nuclei (AGN) host sample is composed of Type II AGNs identified with flux ratios of narrow emission lines with S/N > 6. In this study, we find that the AGN fraction of late-type host galaxies are commonly larger than of early type galaxies. The AGN fraction of host galaxy with late-type nearest neighbor starts to increase as the host galaxy approaches the virial radius of the nearest neighbor (about a few hundred kpc scale). Our result may support the idea that the hydrodynamic interaction with the nearest neighbor plays an important role in triggering the nuclear activity of galaxy. The early-type galaxies in high density regions show decline of AGN activity compared to ones in lower density regions, whereas the direction of the environmental dependence of AGN activity for late-type galaxies is rather opposite. We also find that the environmental dependence of star formation rate is analogous to one of AGN activity except in the high density region.

Ge is a promising candidate to replace Si in MOSFET because of its superior carrier mobility, particular that of the hole. However Ge oxide is thermodynamically unstable. At elevated temperature, GeO is formed at the interface of Ge and GeO2, and its formation increases the interface defect density, degrading its device performance. In search for a method to surmount the problem, we investigated Ge oxidation through an inert capped oxide layer. For this work, we prepared low doped n-type Ge(100) wafer by removing native oxide and depositing a capping layer, and show that GeO2 interface can be successfully grown through the capping layer by thermal oxidation in a furnace. The thickness and quality of thus grown GeO2 interface was examined by ellipsometry, XPS, and AFM, along with I-V and C-V measurements performed at 100K to 300K. We will present the result of our investigation, and provide the discussion on the oxide growth rate, interface state density and electrical characteristics in comparison with other studies using the direct oxidation method.

Fuel cells have the potential of providing several times higher energy storage densities than those possible using current state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries, but current energy density of fuel cell system is not better than that of lithium-ion batteries. To achieve the high energy density, volume and weight of fuel cell system need to be reduced by miniaturizing system components such as stack, fuel tank, and balance-of-plant. In this paper, the thin flexible PCB (Printed circuit board) is used as a current collector to reduce the stack volume. Two end plates are made from light weight aluminum alloy plate. The plate surface is wholly oxidized through the anodizing treatment for electrical insulation. The opening rate of cathode plate hole is optimized through unit cell performance measurement of various opening rates. The performances are measured at room temperature and ambient pressure condition without any repulsive air supply. The active area of MEA is 10.08 $cm^2$ and active area per a unit cell is 1.68 $cm^2$. The peak power density is about 210 mW/$cm^2$ and the air-breathing planar stack of 2 Wis achieved as a small volume of 18 cc.
We demonstrate that the reduction of quantum efficiency with increasing current density in phosphorescent light emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) is related to the formation of excitons in hole transporting layer based on the analysis of emission spectra and exciton formation zone. By employing dual emitting layerm we could achieve maintaining quantum efficiency at high current density up to $10000\;cd/m^2$ as 13.1% compared to the devices with single emitting layer (S-EML) (${\eta}_{ext}$= 6.9% at $10000\;cd/m^2$).

In order to achieve the radiotherapy more precisely using highly energetic heavy charged particles, it is important to know the distribution of the electron density in a human body, which is highly related to the range of charged particles. We can directly obtain the 2-D distribution of the electron density in a sample from a heavy ion CT image. For this purpose, we have developed a heavy ion CT system using a broad beam. The performance, especially the position resolution, of this system is estimated in this work. All experiments were carried out using the heavy ion beam from the HIMAC. We have obtained the projection data of polyethylene samples with various sizes using He 150 MeV/u, C 290 MeV/u and Ne 400 MeV/u beams. The used targets are the cylinders of 40, 60 and 80 mm in diameter, each of them has a hole of 10 mm in diameter at the center of it. The dependence of the spatial resolution on the target size and the kinds of beams will be discussed.
We investigated optical properties of an electron-doped copper oxide high temperature superconductor, $Pr_{0.85}LaCe_{0.15}CuO_4$ (PLCCO) single crystal. We obtained the optical conductivity from measured reflectance at various temperatures. We found our data contained c-axis longitudinal optical (LO) phonon modes due to miscut and intrinsic lattice distortion. We applied an extended Drude model to study the correlations between charge carriers in the system. The LO phonons appear as strong sharp peaks in the optical scattering rate. We tried to remove the LO phonon modes by using the energy loss function, which also shows the LO phonons as peaks, and could not remove them completely. We extracted the electron-boson spectral density function using a generalized Allen's formula. We observed that the resulting electron-boson density show similar temperature dependence as hole-doped cuprates.
Kinetic friction coefficient, bulk density, dynamic and static angle of repose, and terminal velocity of rice husk at the moisture range 7 to $23\%$ w.b. were determined. It could lead to better design and operation of the processing machinery and handling facilities. Friction coefficient was determined from the horizontal traction force measured by pulling the container holding a mass of rice husk on various plate materials. Dynamic angle of repose was calculated from the photos of bulk samples piled by gravity flow on a circular platform. Static angle of repose was determined by measuring the side angle of the bulk material which was left in a cylindrical container after natural discharge of the bulk sample through a circular hole in the bottom plate. Kinetic friction coefficients of rice husk were in the range of $0.254\~0.410,\;0.205\~0.520,\;0.229\~0.400,\;and 0.133\~0.420$ on PVC, mild steel, galvanized steel, and stainless steel, respectively. Bulk density, dynamic and static angle of repose, and terminal velocity were in the range of $91.7\~98.3$$kg/m^3$, $40.2\~47.6^{\circ},\;52.8\~83.7^{\circ},$ and $1.36\~1.73$ m/s, respectively. These physical properties of rice husk increased linearly as the moisture content increased.

Recently, with the rapid development in the industries such as mechanical plants, automobiles, ships and marine structures, it is enlarged by the use of the SS 41 steel. This mechanical plants and marine structures are exposed m corrosion because of Cl-under marine environments. To protect their accidents, mainly applied anti-corrosion epoxy coating and various protective its structures. In this study, corrosion control characteristics on the epoxy coating were investigated by the galvanic corrosion of impressed voltage tester under marine environments The main results obtained are as follows; 1. Corrosion current density of amine-epoxy coating becomes more increased than that of other epoxy coating and the time area rate of pin hole and pit until 5% becomes most rapid. 2. The potential of SUS 304 stainless steel(cathode) for Al-epoxy coating is nearly zero potential. 3. Corrosion current density of Amine-epoxy by shot blast becomes more decreased than that of not shot blast and cathodic potential becomes more noble. 4. As distance of anode and cathode is more decreased, corrosion current density of epoxy coating is more increased and cathodic potential becomes less noble.
