  • This study proposes the analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using the phase space-frequency domain. Features extracted from time series signal analyze quantitatively characteristics of weld defects. For this purpose, analysis objectives in this study are features of time domain and frequency domain. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in fractal characteristics resulting from distance shifts such as parts of head and flange even though the types of defects are identified. These differences in characteristics of weld defects enables the evaluation of unique characteristics of defects in the weld zone. In quantitative fractal feature extraction, feature values of 3.848 in the case of part of head(crack) and 4.102 in the case of part of web(side hole) and 3.711 in the case of part of flange(crack) were proposed on the basis of fractal dimension. Proposed phase space-frequency domain method in this study can integrity evaluation for defect signals of rail weld zone such as side hole and crack.

  • This paper is to provide an integration approach between design and process planning for mechanical parts, using feature recognition. We develop a method to extract each individual feature of an object from 3D modeling data using face-edge graph based algorithm and then propose an approach to recognize the volumic form features using heuristic rules. we demonstrate the proposed approaches are effective for such basic shapes as pocket, slot, through hole, etc.

  • This paper presents the development of an interactive knowledge-based CAM system for design-ing and manufacturing the mold. The system is composed of two functional parts. One is the geo-metric modeller that uses the feature-based models. The models include base plate step, hole, pocket, boss and slot, These are designed by interactive user interface. The other is the expert sys-tem module with inference engine and knowledge database of workpiece material tools manufac-turing machines process an working conditions. With two parts the final mold shape is generated with manufacturing information for effective production.

  • High machining technology is needed for manufacturing jet engines for use in aircrafts. To reduce errors in the jet engine machining process, the machining companies of aircraft engines have introduced the CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) technology. However, to create a CAM model, the operator must manually conduct machining operations based on a CAD (computer-aided design) model, which can take several days or weeks. To solve this problem, this study proposes a method for automatically generating a CAM model for machining holes in the parts, using a CAD model. In this method, the features of the hole are recognized from the CAD model and translated into machining operations to be used with the CATIA program. Additionally, a prototype system was implemented and the proposed method was experimentally verified.

  • This study proposes the analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using the chaotic feature extraction for ultrasonic pattern recognition. Features extracted from time series data using the chaotic time series signal analysis quantitatively welding defects. For this purpose analysis objective in this study is fractal dimension and Lyapunov exponent. Trajectory changes in the strange attractor indicated that even same type of defects carried substantial difference in chaoticity resulting from distance shills such as 0.5 and 1.0 skip distance. Such differences in chaoticity enables the evaluation of unique features of defects in the weld zone. In experiment fractal(correlation) dimension and Lyapunov exponent extracted from 6dB ultrasonic defect signals of weld zone showed chaoticity. In quantitative chaotic feature extraction, feature values(mean values) of 4.2690 and 0.0907 in the case of porosity and 4.2432 and 0.0888 in the case of incomplete penetration were proposed on the basis of fractal dimension and Lyapunov exponent. Proposed chaotic feature extraction in this study enhances ultrasonic pattern recognition results from defect signals of weld zone such as vertical hole.

  • Topographical images such as aerial and satellite images are usually similar with respect to colors and textures but not in shapes. Thus shape features of the images and the methods of extracting them become critical for effective image retrieval from topographical image databases. In this paper, we propose a shape feature extraction method for topographical image retrieval. The method extracts a set of attributes which can model the presence of holes and disconnected regions in images and is tolerant to pre-processing, more specifically segmentation, errors. Various experiments suggest that retrieval using attributes extracted using the proposed method performs better than using existing shape feature extraction methods.

  • We investigated two flares in the solar atmosphere that occurred on June 3, 2012 and July 6, 2012 and caused propagation of Moreton and EIT waves. In the June 3 event, we noticed a filament winking which presumably was caused by the wave propagation from the flare. An interesting feature of this event is that there was a reflection of this wave by a coronal hole located alongside the wave propagation, but not all of this wave was transmitted by the coronal hole. Using the running difference method, we calculated the speed of Moreton and EIT waves and we found values of 926 km/s before the reflection and 276 km/s after the reflection (Moreton wave) and 1,127 km/s before the reflection and 46 km/s after the reflection (EIT wave). In the July 6 event, this phenomenon was accompanied by type II and type III solar radio bursts, and we also performed a running difference analysis to find the speed of the Moreton wave, obtaining a value of 988 km/s. The speed derived from the analysis of the solar radio burst was 1,200 km/s, and we assume that this difference was caused by the different nature of the motions in these phenomena, where the solar radio burst was caused by the propagating particles, not waves.

  • To develop new hole-blocking materials for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs), 5,6-dihydro-2,9-diisopropyl-4,7-diphenyl[1,10]phenanthroline (1) and 5,6-dihydro-2,9-diisopropyl-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-7-phenyl[1,10]phenanthroline (2) were synthesized. While the absorption spectrum of 1 is very similar to that of 2, the photoluminescence spectrum of 1 has the feature of the narrower and blue-shifted blueviolet emission at the peak of 356 nm compared to that of 2. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels of 1 and 2 were estimated from the measurement of cyclic voltammetry, and 1 has the appropriate levels for a holeblocking layer (HBL). The use of 1 as a HBL in a green PhOLED led to good efficiency of 23.6 cd/A at 4.4 mA/$cm^2$.

  • The BTA(boring and trepanning association) deep hole machining has an increasing demands because of its wide applications and its good productivity. The main feature of the BTA tools is that the tool cutting edges are unsymmetrically located on the boring head. This provides a stabilizing cutting force resultant necessary for self guidance of the boring head. The BTA tools are capable of machining for having a large length to diameter ratio in single pass. A study of the accuracy and surface finish of holes produced would reveal quite useful information regarding the process. This study deals with the experimental results obtained during BTA machining on SM55C, SM45C steel under differnt machining conditions.

  • This study has focused on using fuel injections as variables for measuring performance and reducing exhaust gas in turbo-charger diesel engine. In experiments, we changed nozzle hole diameter, diameter of an injection pipe, and injection timing as variable. The results show that torque. fuel consumption and smoke are reduced as nozzle hole diameter decreases, while NOx increases. When the diameter of injector is reduced, torque, fuel consumption and smoke are deteriorated, but NOx is decreased. In addition, when the time for injection is advanced. torque, fuel consumption and smoke are improved, but the density of NOx is increased.
