It has been frequently pointed out that the established art history with the stylistic and iconographic interpretations and monographic analysis is fallen behind the currency of modern art. Among those who claimed the crisis in the discipline of art history, there is a suggestion that the art historical study should be fostered by other factors in the fields of the humanities. The so called New Art History or 'visual Culture Studies' insists that art history has to be restructured to integrate the broader study of culture and society, and by now, such an opinion is not a novelty at all. One of the most significant yet overlooked elements that induced the new currency of art history is properties of contemporary art that conflict the traditional claim of art historians. Although the idea that art is not purely aesthetic but that it has many other functions has been brought up by the art historians, it was the artists that provoked such a perception. When Arthur C. Danto and Hans Belting proclaimed the End of Art and Art History in the 1980s, the concept of art has been changed radically through the avant-garde tendency of Modernism and a new pluralism of Postmodernism. One dominant concern that strikes art historians is to find a new approach to art, since the traditional method and goal of analysis for past art and past art history seem unavailable. The perplexity arising from the situation is intensified in the field of teaching art, especially for those who teach art history in art school. Basically art history is a pursuit of learning of art in history, and its purpose is to reconcile the present with the past and the future as well. Since Modernism, as it is confusing sometimes because it implies the present state, somehow art became considered 'tradition-less'. It does not mean that a work of art stands aloof from the past attainments, hut modern art imposed itself on a task seeking after the new for its own sake, turning its back on the tradition. And now in the era of Postmodernism, an historians face the requirement to revaluate the whole history of art including modernism. The necessity of art history in art education is indisputable, but methods and contents in the academic courses should he reexamined now. Because artists' concept of history and past art has been altered, and art history as a humanistic discipline can only maintain its identity through incorporation with art itself. Academics teaching art history, or, strictly speaking, past works of art and history, to the student in art school, confront with the need to rethink the object of art history and its meaning to the artists.
Historian Eric J. Hobsbawm once said "the task that historians have is to analyze the meanings of the past within the context of society and to track the changes and implementation." It would not be too far of a stretch to apply Hobsbawm's quote to art historian since art history, although quite specific, is still history. In addition, Hobsbaum also asserted that, "a mold called the past continuously forms the present or at least thought to be." It is my recognition that the major westernization of the last century took place under the Japanese colonization which served as the channel to usher in western art; however, the current 20thcentury Korean art history fails to recognize that the mold of the past, namely western art in this case, has formed the modern art of the present. Based on this recognition, attention was given to what lacked in the analysis of the current 20th-century Korean art history in terms of "Informel" which was identified as the turning point towards "modern art" in the Korean art history as well as the following "experimental art." My belief is that the art history of Korea has to be reassessed from, a socio-cultural perspective as well as adopting multi-level and diachronic understanding. However, the existing Korean art, especially the one between the end of 1950s to the 1970s was based on the perspective of "severance"; thus, raising the needs for the starting point of a new perspective. It is my conviction that meta perspective on writing is most essential in order to lay a solid basis for the Korean art scene to have a productive discussion. I feel the utmost necessity to reinterpret the typified history analysis and criticism which stemmed from the trauma under the Japanese colonization. The most urgent task is to avoid academic closeness and to share the research. Painting is an individual expression of the artist, but the act of expression is not free from the cultural and societal influence to which the artist belongs.
Display and art have different purposes. But they share a common mean, so-called artistic experience. These two formative business that seeks the profit as a commercial design, it has some relationship with art in the aspect of socialization of pursuit of aesthetics. Although the historical status and directivity of display have not been established systemiically yet, and aesthetic expansion of displace is uncertain it would be effective that the present and future of display art is connected with art history in the view of dynamic state of art history. In this thesis, the issues such as what is the relationship between display and art history or whether display can be mentioned as a formative art were analyzed by matching them with the trends in art history like naturalism, high tech, minimalists and so on. Modern display is a commercial design that can be developed in various ways and that is related to the as development of art history.
This paper compares presentation methods which are characteristic among museums of natural history in Korea. The different medium for exhibitions are divided into Specimen, Model or Panel Type Displays, Video Presentations, Sound, and Tactile Exhibits, and further classified as Fixed (A Type), Observable (B Type), or Performance Art (C Type) Displays. The museums we studied were the Seodaemun Museum of Natural History, Ewha Womans University Museum of Natural History, Seoul National Science Museum, Gyeryongsan Natural History Museum, the National Science Museum, Mokpo Natural History Museum, and the JejuDo Folklore and Natural History Museum. A study of these museums' approaches to display composition, and exhibition methods according to their exhibit types and contents, revealed the following results: The museums of natural history rely more on Fixed type displays to show information, with appropriate uses of the Observable and the Performance Art type exhibitions. Better utilization of appropriate medium is desired for display contents of Astronomy Space Earth, Minerals Rocks Geology, Animals, Plants, Insects, Prehistoric Organisms Environment, and Anthropology.

The purpose of this study is to develop an art-based integration program for the Korean schools in the United States to improve students' academic performance and nurture the spirit of the young and can enable students taking art classes to better understand social and cultural phenomena influencing their lives. This study integrates with six other subjects that are language art, math, religion, social studies, and Korean history. Art classes are considered the main vehicle for integrating the entire program using a thematic approach. The methodology of this study is based on the literature research and the information of the place, the Korean School of Columbus, is that the school is one of 124 Korean Schools in the Mid-western states and is located in the northern part of Columbus, Ohio. In this study, I developed an art-based integration program to be connected well with other subjects to help students to make sense of them in the complex societies and to help them to obtain the five goals that are included: First, students will understand about a Korean history and culture through making a kite; Second, they will know that a kite can be used as ways of communication with people and God; Third, they will also know how different types of kites respond to the airflow of the wind; Fourth, they will understand an enjoyable and different way of learning about aspects of Fine art, Bible, Language art, Mathematics, Science, History, and Social studies; Lastly, they will learn how important to cooperate with each other.
The Korean government has recently announced its plan to establish the first National Museum of Natural History. However, the Korean word for natural history, jayonsa, is not a very familiar term to some academics as well as the general public. This article discusses the definition and history of natural history, describes the functions of natural history meseums, and makes suggestions to the establishment of our National Museum. Modern natural history is no longer an art of ‘stamp collecting’. It is a comprehensive scientific endeavor pursuing to enlighten the history of the planet Earth and the diversity of natural objects it contains. Natural history museum must have two museums within the museum: the outer museum for exhibition and general public education and the inner museum for research and specialist education. I hope that our National Museum of Natural History will be a place where we all get to know about Nature and thus to love her.
The history of architectural acoustics is a part of history of human being getting together for both politics and entertainments, is also a part of the history of nobility pursuing hearing enjoyments, is still a part history of scientists deeply understanding the concept of "just for people", and as well as is a part history ceaselessly driven by the musicians to find their real hearts through music. The history of architectural acoustics explains not only the acoustic knowledge developments in architectural design, but also the unity on contradictory of both the science and the arts, both the technology and the culture, both the sense and sense organ. The history of architectural acoustics prints the interactions between the mankind and the nature, between the mankind and themselves, between the mankind and their souls, in which course people understand their feelings more deeply and deeply. This paper discusses the brief history of architectural acoustic in China from the ancient drama stages to grand theaters in 20 century, even up to nowadays, including some most important buildings and events as well.
Art theorists support art productions by, introducing them to the public, explaining their meanings, and playing a crucial part in the development of art. These tasks seem like their opus. Because the principles of art production and the artistic languages are quite different from the ordinaries, we need 'interpreters' who can mediate us and the artists. Art works need interpretation. And the interpretation includes not only the characteristics of the given art work, but the customs, history, and the unique qualities of the race that produced the art work. The former director of the Korean National Museum, Choi Soon-woo wrote on the characteristics of Korean art as those that stem from the poised, arbitrary, and non-elaborate state of mind. The statement of the former Director of the National Museum has its weight far greater than just a personal opinion. In fact, we encounter the same resonance of this statement over and over reproduced in the mass media. The problem lies on that it deals with not only a single art work, but the entire Korean art. And going further, this kind of remarks are already infused into every sector of our thought on art appreciation. In this paper, I argue for a re-reading of the characteristics of Korean beauty based on two reasons. First, the characteristic of art work is contemporary, thus we cannot define the characteristics of entire Korean art in a few words without the context of the period of its making. Second, Director Choi defined the characteristics that I pointed out above as 'natural' and 'nature-friendly.' Nature or being natural is not an usual word that defines the characteristics of art work, which stands for the opposite side of the nature in the binary opposition of nature/culture. To delve into these misunderstandings of Korean beauty in the popular notions of Korean art, I suggest the re-reading of three major articles on Korean art: Ryoo Jong-yeol's "Korean race and its art," Ko You-seup's reiteration of Ryoo's thesis called "Discourses in Korean Art History and Aesthetics," and Yoon Hee-soon's antithesis of Ryoo Jong-yeol titiled "Studies on Korean Art History."

In this thesis, I divide the places of public performance Into the spaces of proscenium and polygon and also set up the concepts of hot and cool that McLuhan presents for each space. So, the degree of participation could be different according to the distinction of quantity of information, which is communication following the patterns of spaces. The basis of public performance might be the communication between co-actors and audiences. Since the sense of the art of public performance is the art in the process of establishing the meaning based on the communication with co-actors, it is not a confirmed and fixed one, but rather a reflexive one that can be created and changed continuously. Therefore, audiences should be regarded as the subjects, who are making the art of public performance with co-actors.
