Urban geology is the study of urban geologic environments to provide a scientific basis for rational land use planning and urban development and provides information on geologic environments as a basis for city planners. Based on AEG recommendations, urban geological studies covered the urbanism and historical backgrounds, geological setting, engineering geological constraints and environmental assessments of understudied cities. The aim of this study is to provide a good view of urban geology of Tabriz city the capital of East Azerbaijan province in Iran. The topics of discussions about Tabriz city urban geology are included geologic (geomorphology, geology, climatology and hydrogeology), engineering geological (earthquake, landslide and geotechnical hazards investigations) and environmental characteristics (air, soil and water hazards assessment). The results of the urban geologic studies indicated that Tabriz city in terms of engineering geological and environmental constraints is at high risk potential and in terms of seismic activity and landslide instability is highly potential. In terms of air, soil and water pollution there are many important environmental concern in this city.
Coarse resolution (9 - 50 km pixels) Sea Surface Temperature satellite data are frequently considered adequate for open ocean research. However, coastal regions, including coral reef, estuarine and mesoscale upwelling regions require high-resolution (1-km pixel) SST data. The AVHRR SST data often suffer from navigation errors of several kilometres and still require manual navigation adjustments. The second serious problem is faulty and ineffective cloud-detection algorithms used operationally; many of these are based on radiance thresholds and moving window tests. With these methods, increasing sensitivity leads to masking of valid pixels. These errors lead to significant cold pixel biases and hamper image compositing, anomaly detection, and time-series analysis. Here, after manual navigation of over 40,000 AVHRR images, we implemented a new cloud filter that differs from other published methods. The filter first compares a pixel value with a climatological value built from the historical database, and then tests it against a time-based median value derived for that pixel from all satellite passes collected within ${\pm}3$ days. If the difference is larger than a predefined threshold, the pixel is flagged as cloud. We tested the method and compared to in situ SST from several shallow water buoys in the Florida Keys. Cloud statistics from all satellite sensors (AVHRR, MODIS) shows that a climatology filter with a $4^{\circ}C$ threshold and a median filter threshold of $2^{\circ}C$ are effective and accurate to filter clouds without masking good data. RMS difference between concurrent in situ and satellite SST data for the shallow waters (< 10 m bottom depth) is < $1^{\circ}C$, with only a small bias. The filter has been applied to the entire series of high-resolution SST data since1993 (including MODIS SST data since 2003), and a climatology is constructed to serve as the baseline to detect anomaly events.
Historical, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios from HadGEM2-AO are dynamically downscaled over the northeast East Asia with WRFV3.4. The horizontal resolution of the produced data is 12.5 km and the periods of integration are 1979~2010 for historical and 2019~2100 for both RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. We analyze the time series, climatology, EOF and extreme climate in terms of 2 m-temperature and precipitation during 30-year for the Historical (1981~2010) and RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 (2071~2100) scenarios. According to the result, the temperature of the northeast Asia centered at the Korean Peninsula increase 2.9 and $4.6^{\circ}C$ in the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios, respectively, by the end of the 21st century. The temperature increases with latitude and the increase is larger in winter rather than in summer. The annual mean precipitation is expected to increase by about $0.3mm\;day^{-1}$ in RCP4.5 scenario and $0.5mm\;day^{-1}$ in RCP8.5 scenario. The EOF analysis is also performed for both temperature and precipitation. For temperature, the EOF $1^{st}$ modes of all scenarios in summer and winter show that temperature increase with latitude. The $2^{nd}$ mode of EOF of each scenario shows the natural variability, exclusive of the global warming. The summer precipitation over the Korean Peninsula projected increases in EOF $1^{st}$ modes of all scenarios. For extreme climate, the increment of the number of days with daily maximum temperature above $30^{\circ}C$ per year ($DAY_{TX30}$) is 25.3 and 49.7 days in RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 respectively over the Korean Peninsula. The number of days with daily precipitation above $20mm\;day^{-1}$ per year ($DAY_{PR20}$) also increases 3.1 and 3.5 days in RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 respectively.
A shift of first fowering date (FFD) of spring blossoms (cherry, peach and pear) over the northest Asia under global warming is investiaged using dynamically downscaled daily temperature data with 12.5 km resolution. For the study, we obatained gridded daily data with Historical (1981~2010), and Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) (2021~2100) 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios which were produced by WRFv3.4 in conjunction with HadGEM2-AO. A change on FFDs in 21st century is estimated by applying daily outputs of WRFv3.4 to DTS phonological model. Prior to projection on future climate, the performances of both WRFv3.4 and DTS models are evaluated using spatial distribution of climatology and SCR diagram (Normalized standard deviation-Pattern correlation coefficient-Root mean square difference). According to the result, WRFv3.4 and DTS models well simulated a feature of the terrain following characteristics and a general pattern of observation with a marigin of $1.4^{\circ}C$ and 5~6 days. The analysis reveals a projected advance in FFDs of cherry, peach and pear over the northeast Asia by 2100 of 15.4 days (9.4 days). 16.9 days (10.4 days) and 15.2 days (9.5 days), respectively, compared to the Historical simulation due to a increasing early spring (Februrary to April) temperature of about $4.9^{\circ}C$ ($2.9^{\circ}C$) under the RCP 8.5 (RCP 4.5) scenarios. This indicates that the current flowering of the cherry, peach and pear over analysis area in middle or end of April is expected to start blooming in early or middle of April, at the end of this century. The present study shows the dynamically downscaled daily data with high-resolution is helpeful in offering various useful information to end-users as well as in understanding regional climate change.

This study aims to figure out the weather and climate environment of Seoul area in S. Korea during 1623~1800, which has not been studied so far, by using daily records of weather conditions and meteorological phenomena in the Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Joseon Dynasty(承政院日記) together with records of abnormal weather conditions and natural disasters in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty(朝鮮王朝實錄). During 1500~1760 as a period of the Little Ice Age it was generally cold and dry, particularly cool summers of Seoul area. Changes in weather conditions and meteorological phenomena and climate changes appeared prominently at around 1650, 1710, 1770. The annual numbers of rain days and of snow days began to change largely in the 1640s. The rain(and snow) days reduced significantly in the 1710s~1650s, but increased sharply in the 1710s and later. The rain days in summer rapidly increased after the late 1710s, while the snow days greatly reduced after the mid 1770s. The cloudy days around the 1710s greatly reduced in summer, while slightly increased in winter. The hail days increased significantly in the late 1720s and lasted until the 1760s. The fog days began to reduce after 1770 to the fewer days than the climatic normals of 1981~2010. These times are overall consistent with findings of historical climatological cross-checking data and geophysical biological proxy data, accompanied by a trend of relatively enhanced colder and drier of Seoul area.
