근대 역사 경관의 보존과 철거 - 구 조선총독부 철거 논쟁을 사례로 - (Conflicts between the Conservation and Removal of the Modern Historic Landscapes - A Case of the Demolition Controversy of the Japanese General Government Building in Seoul -)

  • 최근 산업유산, 근대 문화 유산, 포스트 인더스트리얼 공원 등 기억의 경관들이 공공 공간으로 새롭게 활용되고 있다. 여러 유형의 기억의 경관 중 19~20세기에 주로 형성된 근대 역사 경관(modern historic landscape)은 근대사에 대한 평가 및 인식 변화에 따라 보존과 철거 간 논쟁이 가장 많이 발생하는 경관이다. 본 연구는 1995년 철거된 서울의 구조선총독부 철거 논쟁을 사례로 근대 역사 경관을 둘러싼 보존과 철거 사이의 쟁점을 검토하고, 보존 및 철거를 결정하는 가치 판단 기준과 근대 역사 경관의 형성 방식을 탐구한다. 먼저 1980~1999년 사이 조선총독부 철거 논쟁을 다룬 신문기사, 뉴스, 토론 프로그램 자료와 관련 문헌을 검토하고, 철거 논쟁의 주요 쟁점으로 다음의 여섯 가지 항목을 도출한다: 상징적 위치, 새로운 역사적 사실의 발견과 대응, 관련 국가의 반응과 개입, 재정적 여건, 경관의 기능과 이용 방식, 도시 역사 건축 정책 변화. 이를 기반으로 근대 역사 경관을 형성하고 보존 혹은 철거를 결정하는 중요한 가치로서 상징적 가치 간 대립 양상과, 근대 역사 경관이 형성되는 과정에서 발생하는 문제점을 보완하고 비판에 대응하는 기능적 가치의 역할을 고찰한다. 특히 본 연구는 근대사에 대한 인식이 시대에 따라 변화하면서 근대 역사 경관의 보존과 철거의 향방 또한 변화하지만, 오늘날에도 결정의 가장 중요한 요인은 여전히 상징적 가치라는 점에 주목했다. 근대 역사 경관은 오늘날 중요한 설계 대상지 중 하나로서 여전히 합의되고 해결되어야 할 역사적 쟁점을 갖는다. 본 연구는 근대 역사 경관의 가치를 상징적 가치와 기능적 가치로 나누어 평가하고, 그 배경에 자리한 사회적 맥락을 재검토했다는 점에서 동시대적 의의를 갖는다.

음수의 본질과 형식적 접근에 의한 음수지도에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Nature of the Negative Numbers and the Teaching of Them by Formative Approach)

  • In school mathematics, the negative numbers have been instructed using the intuitive models such as the number line model, the counting model, and inductive-extrapolation on the additionand multiplication and using inverse operation on the subtraction and division. Theseinstructions on the negative numbers did not present their formal nature and caused the difficulty for students to understand their operations because of the incomplete function of the intuitive models. In this study, we tried to improve such problems of the instructions of the negative numbers on the basis of the didactical phenomenological analysis. First of all, we analysed the nature of the negative numbers and the cognitive obstructions through the examination about the historic process of them. Second, we examined hew the nature of the negative numbers were analysed and described in mathematics. Third, we explored the improving directions for them on the ground of the didactical phenomenological analysis. In school mathematics, the rules of operations using the intuitive models of the negative numbers have been Instructed rather than approaching toward the nature of them. The negative numbers have been developed from the necessity to find the general solution of equations. The study tries to approach the operations instructions of the negative numbers formative]y to overcome the problems of those that are using the intuitive models and to reflect the formative Furthermore of the negative numbers. Furthermore, we examine the way of the instruction of the negative numbers in real context so that the algebraic feature and the real context should be Interactive.

도심 옛 주거지의 보존 및 재생계획 - 청주 남문 밖 남주동 39~134번지의 블록을 중심으로 - (Conservation and Regeneration of Old Residential Block in Downtown - Focused on the 39~134 Namju-Dong Outside South Gate of Cheongju, Korea -)

  • This study aims to find the conservation and regeneration plan in terms of preserving and utilizing old wooden houses, regenerating existing buildings, and developing idle land for old dwellings located outside the southern gate of Cheongju, Korea. In the preservation and utilization of old houses, three places in the block where wooden houses clustered are created as conservation houses, and are conversed as cafes, workspaces, and homestays along with the preservation of individual houses. In the regeneration of existing buildings, the street landscape was improved through extension and renovation, new construction after demolition, and exterior renovation for one or two-story buildings facing the roadside. In the development of idle land, it reflects the layout method and open yard space corresponding to the path and orientation of the old house, and the mass was varied and segmented to resolve the medium scale. Accordingly, considering the context, landscape, and environmental aspects of the historical downtown, the development of old dwellings in downtown should shift from a uniform high-rise apartment project-oriented approach to a gradual and continuous regeneration direction.

  • This study intends to analyze the various spatial structures of the Seoul city museum with reference to the layouts and the qualitative mode of exhibition items. Understanding the way of actual exhibition design can be a clue to understand the contents of exhibition story which guarantees to make the pertinent space and visitors route organization between different levels of architectural space and exhibition space. An Examination of Contemporary Celebrity Endorsement in Fashion

  • This paper examines the contemporary relationship between fashion brands and celebrities. Noting the historic role of celebrities in fashion and their current prevalence in the industry, the paper moves beyond discussion of the motives and effectiveness of celebrity endorsement, and instead explores its nature and practice in the fashion sector. The paper proposes a new definition of celebrity endorsement in fashion, offers a classification of celebrities involved in fashion brand endorsement, and presents a typology examining the contemporary means by which a fashion brand may collaborate with celebrities. The typology is defined in context of the nature, length and cost to the brand of the relationship between it and the celebrity. The methodology uses secondary sources and qualitative primary research in an exploratory agenda in order to propose conclusions and suggest ideas for further research.

15 Park Row New York City - 120 Years Later, Still Relevant in Contextualism and Sustainability

  • After the 1884 Home Insurance building in Chicago and 1889 Tower building in New York, 15 Park Row became the tallest building in the USA in 1899 and it held this record for nine years. Completed just before the arrival of the 20th century, this building deserves to be recognized for the sophistication of its architecture with respect to contextual understanding of the 19th century historic texture in Lower Manhattan, its uniquely economical floor plans, and its use of natural ventilation and daylight. The compositional techniques using the proportional analysis of its context reflect the highest level of architectural education of its time by its architect Robert H. Robinson. In addition, it also offers a unique glimpse to the state-of-the-art technology of its time regarding its structure, its use of movement systems that was capable of serving 4000 users.

The Logic of Vertical Density: Tall Buildings in the 21st Century City

  • This paper attempts to summarize recent debates on tall buildings. It first explains the driving forces of constructing tall buildings including population increase, rural-to-urban migration, demographic change, agglomeration, and human aspiration. Next, it discusses disadvantages and challenging factors that are frequently raised in making a case against tall buildings including economics, environmental factors, historic context, public safety, and psychological issues. The paper concludes by affirming that tall buildings will persist in the $21^{st}$ century due to strong commitment to urban sustainability and significant population increase worldwide.

  • Thomas L. Friedman's "Our New Historic Divide: B.C. and A.C. ― The World Before Corona and the World After" column is becoming the talk of the times. Whoever talks about the post-Corona world mentions "BC/AC" as a new concept. However, people seem to be overusing the term "BC/AC" while overlooking the specific context that Friedman emphasized. So, taking into account the cultural differences and contexts of the East and the West highlighted in Friedman's column, we devised the "BC/AC" ten-paradigm hypothesis. We hope these ten cultural shifts will be the first step in examining the post-Corona world.

A Development of DCS Binding Delay Analysis System based on PC/Ethernet and Realtime Database

  • DCS has many processing components and various communication elements. And its communication delay characteristic is affected diverse operating situation and context. Especially, binding signal which traversed from one control-node to another control-node undergo all sort of delay conditions. So its delay value has large deviation with the lapse of time, and the measurement of delay statistics during long time is very difficult by using general oscilloscope or other normal instruments. This thesis introduces the design and implementation of PC-based BDAS(Binding Delay Analysis System) System developed to overcomes these hardships. The system has signal-generator, IO-card, data-acquisition module, delay-calculation and analyzer module, those are implemented on industrial standard PC/Ethernet hardware and Windows/Linux platforms. This system can detect accurate whole-system-wide delay time including io, control processing and network delay, in the resolution of msec unit, and can analyze each channel's delay-historic data which is maintained by realtime database. So, this system has strong points of open system architecture, for example, user-friendly environment, low cost, high compatibility, simplicity of maintenance and high extension ability. Of all things, the measuring capability of long-time delay-statistics obtained through historic-DB make the system more valuable and useful, which function is essential to analyze accurate delay performance of DCS system. Using this system, the verification of delay performance of DCS for nuclear power plants is succeeded in KNICS(Korea Nuclear Instrumentation & Control System) projects

동서양 전통적인 주택 양식의 실내공간 특성 비교분석 연구 - 한국, 중국, 일본, 로마, 이집트, 이태리의 사례주택을 중심으로- (Comparative Analysis on Interior Spaces of the Selected Historical Residences in the Western and Eastern Countries - focusing on case residences of Korea, China, Japan, Rome, Egypt, and Italy -)

  • At the multi-cultural society, research is needed to encourage a social atmosphere for enhanced understanding and respect for different cultures & countries. The purpose was to analyze the characteristics of spatial arrangement, space connection, Interior decoration and the relationship among these three features, which showed each country's unique housing form tradition. Three representative cases of historic residences from each country were selected on the basis of a recognized historic architecture directory. Total 18 residences from 6 countries - Korea, China, Japan, Rome, Egypt, and Italy - were comparatively analyzed. As results, aspects generally found in Eastern countries, were the fence as the semi-open boundary between the inside and the outside of the house, the flexibility of spatial opening and partitions between rooms, and finally simple and movable decoration features. On the other hands, aspects appeared in Western countries, were the outer wall of the building as the boundary to the outside, the closed and fixed properties of the room partitions, and finally complex and fixed decoration features. The research also showed that even within the same culture, the degree of openness varied. Each feature of space was related and could be explained within the same context. Housing, regardless of country and culture, tried to accommodate the exterior space inside the building as much as possible. The common pursuit was transformed to various visible forms and its reason might be due to different socio-cultural and environmental backgrounds that need to be continuously explored in academic area.
