  • Conventional thresholding methods including Otsu's thresholding method are based on the gray levels frequency histogram. But the gray levels frequency histogram is obtained by recomposing only frequency information from an input image, where frequency histogram dose not contain any other informations such as the distribution of gray levels and relation between gray levels. Therefore the methods using the gray levels frequency histogram occasionally present inappropriate threshold values because it cannot reflect informations of the given image sufficiently. In this paper, we define a correlation function of gray levels and propose a novel thresholding method using the gray levels frequency histogram and the spatial correlation information. The effectiveness of the proposed method will be shown through comparison with Otsu's thresholding method.

  • This study was purpose to method that applies for improving the image quality in CT and X-ray scan, especially in the lung region. Also, we researched the parameters of the image before and after applying for Histogram Equalization (HE) such as mean, median values in the histogram. These techniques are mainly used for all type of medical images such as for Chest X-ray, Low-Dose Computed Tomography (CT). These are also used to intensify tiny anatomies like vessels, lung nodules, airways and pulmonary fissures. The proposed techniques consist of two main steps using the MATLAB software (R2021a). First, the technique should apply for the process of normalization for improving the basic image more correctly. In the next, the technique actively rearranges the intensity of the image contrast. Second, the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) method was used for enhancing small details, textures and local contrast of the image. As a result, this paper shows the modern and improved techniques of HE and some advantages of the technique on the traditional HE. Therefore, this paper concludes that various techniques related to the HE can be helpful for many processes, especially image pre-processing for Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL).

  • The aim of this paper is to extract features from each news scenes for example, symbol icon which can be distinct each broadcasting corp, icon and caption which are has feature and important information for the scene in respectively, In this paper, we propose extraction methods of caption that has important prohlem of news videos and it can be classified in three steps, First of al!, we converted that input images from video frame to YIQ color vector in first stage. And then, we divide input image into regions in clear hy using equalized color histogram of input image, In last, we extracts caption using edge histogram based on vertical and horizontal line, We also propose the method which can extract news icon in selected key frames by the difference of inter-histogram and can divide each scene by the extracted icon. In this paper, we used comparison method of edge histogram instead of complex methcxls based on color histogram or wavelet or moving objects, so we shorten computation through using simpler algorithm. and we shown good result of feature's extraction.

  • This paper proposes a method of content-based image retrieval using region feature vector in order to overcome disadvantages of existing color histogram methods. The color histogram methods have a weak point that reduces accuracy because of quantization error, and more. In order to solve this, we convert color information to HSV space and quantize hue factor being purecolor information and calculate histogram and then use thus for retrieval feature that is robust in brightness, movement, and rotation. Also we solve an insufficient part that is the most serious problem in color histogram methods by dividing an image into sixteen regions and then comparing each region. We improve accuracy by edge and DC of DCT transformation. As a result of experimenting with 1,000 color images, the proposed method has showed better precision than the existing methods.

  • We developed a model to classify the absence of cervical cancer using deep learning from the cervical image to which the histogram equalization algorithm was applied, and to compare the performance of each model. A total of 4259 images were used for this study, of which 1852 images were normal and 2407 were abnormal. And this paper applied Image Sharpening(IS), Histogram Equalization(HE), and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization(CLAHE) to the original image. Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR) and Structural Similarity index for Measuring image quality(SSIM) were used to assess the quality of images objectively. As a result of assessment, IS showed 81.75dB of PSNR and 0.96 of SSIM, showing the best image quality. CLAHE and HE showed the PSNR of 62.67dB and 62.60dB respectively, while SSIM of CLAHE was shown as 0.86, which is closer to 1 than HE of 0.75. Using ResNet-50 model with transfer learning, digital image-processed images are classified into normal and abnormal each. In conclusion, the classification accuracy of each model is as follows. 90.77% for IS, which shows the highest, 90.26% for CLAHE and 87.60% for HE. As this study shows, applying proper digital image processing which is for cervical images to Computer Aided Diagnosis(CAD) can help both screening and diagnosing.

  • Purpose: The degradation of an image quality and error of the beam dose calculation can be caused because the metal artifact is generated during the CT simulation of head and neck patient. The usability of the gantry tilt scan for reducing the metal artifact tries to be appraised. Materials and Methods: The inferior $20^{\circ}$ gantry tilt scan was made in order to reduce the metal artifact and $0^{\circ}$ reconstruction image was acquired. The AAPM CT performance Phantom was used in order to compare the CT number of the reconstructed image and Original image. the difference of volume was compared by using the acrylic phantom. The homogeneity of the CT number was evaluated the Intensity volume Histogram (IVH) as in order to evaluate an influence by the metal artifact. A dose was evaluated as the Dose Volume Histogram (DVH). Results: in the comparison of the CT number and volume, the difference showed up less than 0.5%. As to the comparison of IVH, in the gantry tilt scan, influence by an artifact was reduced and the homogeneity of the CT number was improved. The comparison of DVH result reduced the mean dose error of the both sides parotid 0.2~6%. Conclusion: In the Head & Neck radiation therapy, It is difficult and to distinguish tumor and normal tissue and the error of dose is generated by the metal artifact. The delineation of the exact organization was possible if the Gantry tilt scan was used. The CT number homogeneity was improved and the error of dose could be reduced. The Gantry tilt scan confirmed in the Head & Neck radiation therapy to be very useful in the exact radiation therapy.

  • This paper describes the color comparison analysis of flame in each standard color model in order to propose the optimal color model for image processing based flame detection algorithm. Histogram intersection values were used to analyze the separation characteristics between color of flame and color of non-flame in each standard color model which are RGB, YCbCr, CIE Lab, HSV. Histogram intersection value in each color model and components is evaluated for objective comparison. The analyzed result shows that YCbCr color model is the most suitable for flame detection by average HI value of 0.0575. Among the 12 components of standard color models, each Cb, R, Cr component has respectively HI value of 0.0433, 0.0526, 0.0567 and they have shown the best flame separation characteristics.

  • Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. It is important for the iris recognition system to extract the feature which is invariant to changes in iris patterns. Those changes can be occurred by the influence of lights, changes in the size of the pupil, and head tilting. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on local gradient orientation histogram which is robust to variations in illumination and rotations of iris patterns. The proposed method enables high-speed feature extraction and feature comparison because it requires no additional processing to obtain the rotation invariance, and shows comparable performance to the well-known previous methods.

  • This paper proposes the parallel design of a shot change detection algorithm using frame segmentation and moving blocks. In the proposed approach, the high parallel processing components, such as frame histogram calculation, block histogram calculation, Otsu threshold setting function, frame moving operation, and block histogram comparison, are designed in parallel for NVIDIA GPU. In order to minimize memory access delay time and guarantee fast computation, the output of a GPU kernel becomes the input data of another kernel in a pipeline way using the shared memory of GPU. In addition, the optimal sizes of CUDA processing blocks and threads are estimated through the prior experiments. In the experimental test of the proposed shot change detection algorithm, the detection rate of the GPU based parallel algorithm is the same as that of the CPU based algorithm, but the average of processing time speeds up about 6~8 times.

  • In the current era of digital technology, and with the help of existing software, digital photo manipulation is becoming easier and faster. One example of this is the development of powerful image processing software that makes it easy for a digital image to be manipulated and edited. It is therefore very important to protect and maintain public trust in digital images. Several methods have been developed to detect image manipulation. In this paper, we compare two methods for detecting image duplication due to copy-move actions, namely the polar coordinate system and the histogram of oriented gradients methods. The former is a method based on the transfer of a Cartesian image to a polar form, making it easy to tell whether there are objects that have undergone a copy/move in an image, while the latter is a method for retrieving information related to the distribution, which uses a target in the local area as a tool to represent the shape of the target. We compare the accuracy, speed and memory usage of these two methods.
