Using education on irradiated foods to change behavior of Korean elementary, middle, and high school students

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Educational interventions targeted food selection perception, knowledge, attitude, and behavior. Education regarding irradiated food was intended to change food selection behavior specific to it. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: There were 43 elementary students (35.0%), 45 middle school students (36.6%), and 35 high school students (28.5%). The first step was research design. Educational targets were selected and informed consent was obtained in step two. An initial survey was conducted as step three. Step four was a 45 minute-long theoretical educational intervention. Step five concluded with a survey and experiment on food selection behavior. RESULTS: As a result of conducting a 45 minute-long education on the principles, actual state of usage, and pros and cons of irradiated food for elementary, middle, and high-school students in Korea, perception, knowledge, attitude, and behavior regarding the irradiated food was significantly higher after the education than before the education (P < 0.000). CONCLUSIONS: The behavior of irradiated food selection shows high correlation with all variables of perception, knowledge, and attitude, and it is necessary to provide information of each level of change in perception, knowledge, and attitude in order to derive proper behavior change, which is the ultimate goal of the education.

중학생의 진로태도성숙에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors influencing Career Attitude Maturity in Middle School Students)

  • 본 연구는 중학생의 진로직업의식, 학교진로활동참여, 학교진로활동만족도와 진로태도성숙의 관계를 파악하며 학교진로활동 활성화 및 진로태도성숙을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 수집된 301명의 자료는 SPSS 18.0을 통해 기술통계, t분석, ANOVA, 상관분석, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 진로태도성숙은 여학생이 남학생보다 높았으며, 진로와 직업의식에 대해 생각을 자주할수록 진로태도성숙 수준이 높았다. 진로태도성숙에 영향을 미치는 변인은 성별, 진로직업의식, 진로활동만족도로 나타났다. 이에 성별간 차별화되고 개개인의 욕구에 부합하는 진로활동 프로그램 및 진로와 직업의식 향상을 위한 정보제공이 요구된다.

일부지역 청소년들의 흡연 실태 (A Survey on Smoking of Adolescence)

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate the smoking experience and its related factors among adolescence. Method: The subject for this study consisted of 2711 students of middle, high school located in youngam-koon, chonnam. The data were collected by an anonymous questionnaire during the period from March. 1, 2001 to June. 20, 2001. Result: The frequency of cigaret smoker was 8%. The frequency of smoker in the high school was higher than that of smokers at the middle school. The motivation of smoking was curiosity and solicitation by friends, and the level of smoking was on average less than 10 cigarettes a day. The 72.2% of smokers started during the middle school period. Students who smoke had more positive attitude toward smoking than students who don't smoke. There were significant differences in there knowledge about the harmful effect of smoking between nonsmoker and smoker. Most smoking students thought that nonsmoking education is necessary for adolescents, even though they don't want to quit the smoking. The frequency of smoker was different between genders. Conclusion: An understanding of the characteristics of smoking of adolescence may provide guidance for preventive interventions with adolescents.

우리나라 중.고등학생의 수학적 신념 측정 및 특성 분석 (Instrument Development and Analysis of Secondary Students' Mathematical Beliefs)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 학생들의 수학적 신념을 간편하게 측정할 수 있는 표준화된 측정 도구를 문헌연구와 심리측정학적 분석을 바탕으로 수학교과에 대한 신념, 수학 문제해결 신념, 수학 교수 학습에 대한 신념, 수학적 자아개념의 4개의 하위 요소로 구성하여 중학생용은 총 37문항으로, 고등학생용은 총 40문항으로 개발하였다. 그리고 대단위 표집 검사를 실시하여 우리나라 중 고등학생의 수학적 신념이 학교급별, 성별, 성취수준에 따라 어떤 특성이 나타나는지를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 중 고등학교 모두 남학생이 여학생보다 수학이 유용하다고 믿는 신념, 수학에서 과정보다 정답을 구하는 것이 중요하다고 믿는 신념, 많은 수의 문제를 푸는 것이 중요하고 믿는 신념 등이 강하게 나타났고, 중학교에서 고등학교로 진급하면서 수학적 자아개념 중 '감정' 요인이 긍정적으로 변화하였다. 여학생은 중 고등학교 모두 수학 교수 학습에 대한 신념 중 '교사의 수업활동' 요인만이 남학생보다 강하였다. 성취수준이 '기초이하' 집단 학생들이 수학은 암기해야 하는 공식과 절차라거나 창의적 활동에 대한 기회를 제공하지 못한다고 생각하는 '고정관념'이 가장 강하였다. 그 외요인에서는 '우수' 집단 학생들의 신념이 강하였다.

어머니의 자녀관련 스트레스와 청소년의 학교생활적응간의 관계에서 어머니의 심리적 안녕감 및 지지/통제의 매개적 역할 (The Mediating Roles of Mothers' Psychological Well-Being and Support/Control in the Relationship between Maternal Child-related Stress and Adolescents' School Adjustment)

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the mediating roles of mothers' psychological well-being and support/control in the relationship between maternal child-related stress and adolescents' school adjustment. Participants were 389 3rd grade middle school students and their mothers. Mothers completed questionnaires about child-related stress and psychological well-being. Adolescents completed scales of maternal controlling/supportive parenting and school adjustment. Results indicated that a direct effect of mothers' child-related stress on adolescents' school adjustment was not significant. However, mothers' psychological well-being and support/control mediated the relations between child-related stress and adolescents' school adjustment. A higher level of child-related stress in mothers was associated with a lower level of psychological well-being, followed by a lower level of adolescents' school adjustment. Mothers who reported a higher level of child-related stress tended to be less supportive and more controlling, which led to a lower level of school adjustment. These findings suggest the need for considering both maternal characteristics and parenting in explaining adolescents' school adjustment.

초.중학교 아동이 지각하는 부모의 권위 (Parental Authorities Perceived by Children of Elementary and Middle School)

  • The purpose of this study was to measure perceiving extent on father and mother's authority - domain perceived by child and the some materials for bringing up authority - domain in according to the sex and development level of child. The study subjects were children of 3rd elementary schools and 3rd middle schools at Cheong - ju city Chungcheongbuk - do and duration for investigation was from Sept. 24, '97 to Sept. 28, '97. The measuring sample was "Parents' Authority Index" by Kim, Kyeong - hee(1990). The Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, t - test and ANOVA using the SPSSWIN program. The conclusion of this study were as follows; 1. The perceptive extent regarding parents' authorities has shown very voluntary differences in identity authority. It has shown voluntary differences ligitimacy authority and competency authority as well. 2. In the father's authority - domain based on the child's sex, girl group recognized higher than boy group for the ligitmacy authority as a elementary school students. 3. In the father's authority - domain aspect based on child's developing level, for the ligitmacy authority boy group showed most voluntary difference. In the mother's authority based on child's developing level, all of boy and girl group recognized highly exchange authority with a voluntary difference. 4. In concering the correlation of each authority - domains to father and mother percevied by children, it was shown the highest within identical realm.

중년기 기혼남녀의 가족스트레스, 사회적 지지 자원이 결혼생활만족도에 미치는 영향 (The effects of family stress and social support resources on marital satisfaction among middle-aged married men and women)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose measures for social work practice to enhance the happiness of middle-aged married men and women by identifying the effects of family stress and social support resources (formal and informal support resources) on marital satisfaction among mid-life married couples. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling among married men and women aged between 40 and 59 and living in Seoul City and Gyeonggi province. The study results are follows. First, the average score of family stress was 3.06 points (SD=.56), slightly higher than the median value of 3 points. Of all subscales of family stress, the subjects experienced the most stress from family relationships, followed by financial problems, health and loss of families, and work-family compatibility. In regard to social support resources, the mean value of all social support resources categories was greater than the median. Among the subscales, informal support (family support and support from other people) was found to be higher than formal support. The level of marital satisfaction was higher than the median, and the score was 3.21 points (SD=.78). Second, in order to explore differences in marital satisfaction according to family stress and social support, differences in marital satisfaction were analyzed by grouping subjects who scored high, middle, and low levels of marital satisfaction. According to the results, marital satisfaction was statistically significantly higher in the group that experienced less family stress (F=6.25, p<.01). With respect to social support, marital satisfaction was statistically significantly higher in the group that received high social support (F=29.68, p<.001). Third, according to the analysis of factors affecting marital satisfaction in middle-aged married men and women, subjective economic status, family relationship stress, economic stress, and family support showed statistical significance. The higher the subjective economic status and the lower the family relationship stress and economic stress levels, the higher the marital satisfaction among middle-aged married men and women. In addition, the greater the family support, the higher the marital satisfaction. The results of this study underscore the need to improve family relationships in middle-aged married couples and to distribute family life education programs that can strengthen family support resources. For example, family relationship enhancement programs are currently performed, including "Family School for Middle-Aged Baby Boomers" and others as part of the Healthy Family Support Work regarding the promotion of marital satisfaction of middle-aged couples. In addition, continuing effort is warranted to include content on strengthening family support resources, maximizing the effectiveness of programs, and promoting service accessibility.

The Effects of Academic Stress and Self-Control on Temporomandibular Disorder of Adolescents

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of academic stress and self-control ability on temporomandibular disorder (TMD) of adolescents. Methods: Participants were 1,112 teenagers who were 1st grade students of middle and high school. After checking their academic stress and self-control ability through a self-administrated questionnaire, the students were examined their TMD by two trained dentists. We drew a comparison the level of their academic stress and self-control ability between the students with and without TMD. We divided them to four groups according to the level of academic stress and self-control. And we checked prevalence of TMD in each level. Results: The group of students with TMD was higher academic stress score level than the students without TMD (p<0.05). And they had lower self-control score level than the students without TMD (p<0.05). Even if they were under the same academic stress, the group of students with higher self-control score was less TMD prevalence than the students with lower score. Conclusions: Academic stress makes adolescents to increase TMD and high ability of self-control makes them to decrease it. And these tendencies are seemed to have a great influence on young male student.

초·중등 학부모 대상 수학교과 인식 및 요구 조사 (Analysis of Recognition and Needs for Parents in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools for Mathematics Education)

  • 본 연구는 학부모의 수학에 대한 인식이 자녀의 수학학습에 영향을 미치는 근원적 요소가 될 수 있다는 선행 연구들을 바탕으로 학부모의 수학 교과에 대한 가치인식과 만족도 등에 관한 내용을 조사하였으며, 그 결과를 바탕으로 학교 수학교육 및 자녀 교육과 학부모 교육에 대한 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구방법은 전국의 학부모를 대상으로 무작위 추출하였으며, 초등학생 학부모 133명, 중·고등학생 학부모 411명에 따른 학부모의 응답 결과를 비교 분석 하였다. 설문 결과 초등학생과 중·고등학생 모두 학부모가 수학 교과의 가치 인식이 긍정적일수록 자녀의 수학 교과에 대한 가치 인식도 긍정적이고, 학부모의 수학 관련 교육 참여도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 교수학습 활동에 대한 인식 측면에서 교육 프로그램 참여 의지는 중·고등학생 학부모가 초등학생 학부모보다 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 수학 교과 전반에 대한 만족도 또한 초등학생 학부모가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학부모들은 미래 신기술을 활용한 수업 및 인공지능이나 데이터 분석 능력을 함양하기 위한 수학교육의 필요성을 인식하고 있는 것으로 판단할 수 있었다. 이는 교육전문가들이 향후 진지하게 고민해보아야 할 과제로서 학부모가 참여하는 수학교육의 확대, 미래 수학학습을 위한 수학 학습 환경의 조성, 수학교육 관련하여 다양한 학부모 교육의 필요성을 제안하였다.

근막이완술이 경추성 두통환자의 뇌혈류와 통증수준에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Myofascial Relaxation on Blood Flow Velocity of the Cranial Artery and Pain Level in Cervicogenic Headache Patients)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate a possible role for cranial artery velocity in cervicogenic headache. Methods: We studied 13 patients with cervicogenic headaches (M=9, F=4, age=$24.50{\pm}3.50\;y$) these were compared to 20 normal subjects (M=10, F=10, age=$23.30{\pm}2.90\;y$). Cervicogenic headache patients were divided into two groups (a myofascial relaxation group, a placebo group). Pain levels were measured using a visual analog scale (VAS). Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound recordings were used to measure blood flow velocity in the cranial artery. Results: Cervicogenic headache patients exhibited a significantly lower blood flow velocity in the middle cerebral artery. The patients who received an intervention had a significantly higher blood flow velocity in the left middle cerebral artery, right vertebral artery and basilar artery. Compared to the placebo group, the myofascial relaxation group exhibited a significantly decreased level of pain. Conclusion: Cervicogenic headache is pain referred to the head from a source in the cervical spine. Manual therapy affect to cervical spine and soft tissue as well as the passage of these vessels and nerves to recover because it is thought to be able to help.
