Purpose: This descriptive study examined the management status of the home health care visiting vehicles and the nurse bags, by the home health care center of hospitals (at the hospital level or higher) in Korea, and identified the relevant factors. Methods: Of 120 managers or home health care nurses from medical institutions at hospital level or higher that provide home nursing, 93 individuals participated in the study in July 2021. Results: Hospitals that followed standard guidelines were more likely to perform internal disinfection of home health care visiting vehicles, and distinguished between clean and contaminated areas inside the visiting vehicles. Further, hospitals that followed standard guidelines were more likely to use more barrier surfaces to protect the surfaces of nurse bags to prevent infection. In addition, hospitals supporting the washing cost of the interior of home health care visiting vehicles were more likely to conduct the washing, and hospitals supporting nurse bags were more likely to use barrier surfaces to protect the bags' surfaces. Conclusion: This study only investigated home health care centers at hospital level or higher. Therefore, to generalize the results of the study, it is necessary to conduct a qualitative study involving additional investigation of home health care visiting vehicles and nurse bags and interviews with nurses from all domestic home health care centers.
Purpose: Short implants are a potential alternative to long implants for use with bone augmentation in atrophic jaws. This meta-analysis investigated the survival rate and marginal bone level (MBL) of surface-modified short vs. long implants. Methods: Electronic and manual searches were performed for articles published between January 2010 and June 2021. Twenty-two randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing surface-modified short and long implants that reported the survival rate with at least 1 year of follow-up were selected. Two reviewers independently extracted the data, and the risk of bias and quality of evidence were evaluated. A quantitative meta-analysis was performed regarding survival rate and MBL. Results: The failure rates of surface-modified short and long implants differed significantly (risk ratio, 2.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.46, 3.57; P<0.000). Long implants exhibited a higher survival rate than short implants (mean follow-up, 1-10 years). A significant difference was observed in mean MBL (mean difference=-0.43, 95% CI, -0.63, -0.23; P<0.000), favoring the short implants. Regarding the impact of surface treatment in short and long implants, for hydrophilic sandblasted acid-etched (P=0.020) and titanium oxide fluoride-modified (P=0.050) surfaces, the survival rate differed significantly between short and long implants. The MBL differences for novel nanostructured calcium-incorporated, hydrophilic sandblasted acid-etched, and dual acid-etched with nanometer-scale calcium phosphate crystal surfaces (P=0.050, P=0.020, and P<0.000, respectively) differed significantly for short vs. long implants. Conclusions: Short surface-modified implants are a potential alternative to longer implants in atrophic ridges. Long fluoride-modified and hydrophilic sandblasted acid-etched implants have higher survival rates than short implants. Short implants with novel nanostructured calcium-incorporated titanium surfaces, hydrophilic sandblasted acid-etched surfaces, and dual acid-etched surfaces with nanometer-scale calcium phosphate crystals showed less marginal bone loss than longer implants. Due to high heterogeneity, the MBL results should be interpreted cautiously, and better-designed RCTs should be assessed in the future.
PURPOSE. In this study, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of implant surface treatment on cell differentiation of osteoblast cells. For this purpose, three surfaces were compared: (1) a modified SLA (MSLA: sand-blasted with large grit, acid-etched, and immersed in 0.9% NaCl), (2) a laser treatment (LT: laser treatment) titanium surface and (3) a laser and acid-treated (LAT: laser treatment, acid-etched) titanium surface. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The MSLA surfaces were considered as the control group, and LT and LAT surfaces as test groups. Alkaline phosphatase expression (ALP) was used to quantify osteoblastic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cell. Surface roughness was evaluated by a contact profilometer (URFPAK-SV; Mitutoyo, Kawasaki, Japan) and characterized by two parameters: mean roughness (Ra) and maximum peak-to-valley height (Rt). RESULTS. Scanning electron microscope revealed that MSLA (control group) surface was not as rough as LT, LAT surface (test groups). Alkaline phosphatase expression, the measure of osteoblastic differentiation, and total ALP expression by surface-adherent cells were found to be highest at 21 days for all three surfaces tested (P<.05). Furthermore, ALP expression levels of MSLA and LAT surfaces were significantly higher than expression levels of LT surface-adherent cells at 7, 14, and 21 days, respectively (P<.05). However, ALP expression levels between MSLA and LAT surface were equal at 7, 14, and 21 days (P>.05). CONCLUSION. This study suggested that MSLA and LAT surfaces exhibited more favorable environment for osteoblast differentiation when compared with LT surface, the results that are important for implant surface modification studies.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate three kinds of slipmeters (BOT, BPT, English XL) used on-site floor with ASTM F2508 which is comprised of four different standard surfaces(polished granite, glazed porcelain, vinyl composite tile ;VCT, and ceramic tile). ASTM F2508 has two criteria that decide which slipmeter is appropriate or not. The evaluated slipmeters were dreg sled, articulated sturt, and pendulum strike type. The test results revealed that two kinds of slipmeters(BOT, BPT) successfully ranked all four standard surfaces and differentiated among standard surfaces with varying degrees of slipperiness. Nevertheless, the measured value with BOT on the VCT, which was reported as slippery floor in previous study, was higher than its threshold(0.6). Although some slipmeter satisfy two criteria of ASTM F2508, they can underestimate the slip potential. So, another criteria is needed so as to reduce this problem. English XL couldn't properly measure slipperiness under the two kind of floors(glazed porcelain, VCT). So the slider of English XL was modified in order to meet two criteria of ASTM F2508.
The present research is an experimental study of subcooled flow boiling behavior using flat, microporousenhanced square heater surfaces in pure FC-72. Two $1-cm^{2}$ copper surfaces, one highly polished (plain) and one microporous coated, were flush-mounted into a 12.7 mm square, horizontal flow channel. Testing was performed for fluid velocities ranging from 0.5 to 4 m/s (Reynolds numbers from 18,700 to 174,500) and pure subcooling levels from 4 to 20 K. Results showed both surfaces' nucleate flow boiling curves collapsed to one line showing insensitivity to fluid velocity and subcooling. The log-log slope of the microporous surface nucleate boiling curves was lower than the plain surface due to the conductive thermal resistance of the microporous coating layer. Both, increased fluid velocity and subcooling, increase the CHF values for both surfaces, however, the already enhanced boiling characteristics of the microporous coating appear dominant and require higher fluid velocities to provide additional enhancement of CHF to the microporous surface.
This paper investigates the development of failure surfaces induced by an embankment on soft marine clay deposits and the characteristics of such surfaces through numerical simulations and its comparative study with monitoring results. It is well known that the factor of safety of embankment slopes is closely related to the vertical loading, including the height of the embankment. That is, an increase in the embankment height reduces the factor of safety. However, few studies have examined the relationship between the lateral movement of soft soil beneath the embankment and the factor of safety. In addition, no study has investigated the distribution of the pore pressure coefficient B value along the failure surface. This paper conducts a continuum analysis using finite difference methods to characterize the development of failure surfaces during embankment construction on soft marine clay deposits. The results of the continuum analysis for failure surfaces, stress, displacement, and the factor of safety can be used for the management of embankment construction. In failure mechanism, it has been validated that a large shear displacement causes change of stress and pore pressure along the failure surface. In addition, the pore pressure coefficient B value decreases along the failure surface as the embankment height increases. This means that the rate of change in stress is higher than that in pore pressure.
We studied the physical properties of the mercaptopyruvic-acid layer formed on gold surfaces, which has the interactions with the titanium dioxide surface for design of gold- titanium dioxide distribution. Surface force measurements were performed, using the atomic force microscope (AFM), between the surfaces as a function of the salt concentration and pH value. The forces were analyzed with the DLVO (Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek) theory, to evaluate the potential and charge density of the surfaces quantitatively for each salt concentration and each pH value. The difference in the properties reflected the effect of the isoelectric point on the surface forces. The forces were interpreted for the evaluation with the law of mass action and the ionizable groups on the surface. The salt concentration dependence of the surface properties, found from the measurement at pH 8.0, was consistent with the prediction from the law. It was found that the mercaptopyruvic-acid layer had higher values for the surface charge densities and potentials than the titanium dioxide surfaces at pH 8, which may be attributed to the ionized-functional-groups of the mercaptopyruvic-acid layer.
The present study investigated experimentally the spreading characteristics of a single liquid impinging on the inclined micro-textured aluminum (Al 6061) surfaces manufactured by using a micro computerized numerical control (${\mu}$-CNC) milling machine. The textured surfaces were composed of patterned micro-holes (diameter of $125\;{\mu}m$ and depth of $125\;{\mu}m$). In our experiment, the de-ionized (DI) water droplet of $4.3\;{\mu}l$ was impinged normally on the non-textured and textured surfaces at two different Weber numbers, and the droplet impinged on the inclined surfaces with different angles. A high speed camera was used to capture sequential digital images for measurement of the maximum spreading distance. It was found that for the textured surface, the measured apparent equilibrium contact angle (ECA) increased up to $105.8^{\circ}$, higher than the measured ECA of $87.6^{\circ}$ for the non-textured (bare) surface. In addition, it is conjectured that the spreading distance decreased because of a liquid penetration during droplet spreading through the holes, the increase in hydrophobicity, and viscous dissipation during impact process.

This study measured transpiration rate of urban trees and albedos of urban surfaces, and examined the function of microclimate amelioration by urban greenspace. Transpiration rates of trees were highest in July and August of growing months. Transpiration per unit leaf area for the two months was 300-350 g/$m^2$/h for Platanus occidentalis, 210-270 g/$m^2$/h for Ginkgo biloba and Zelkova serrata, and 130-140 g/$m^2$/h for Acer palmatum. Surface albedos were 0.09 for asphalt paving and 0.68 for white wall, which reveals that light-colored surfaces are better than dark-colored ones to lower the heat build-up. Due to lack of evapotranspiration, concrete surfaces were, at t midafternoon maximum, 8$^{\circ}C$ hotter than grass ones, though the albedo of concrete paving was higher thant that of grass and trees. Summer air temperatures at places with 12% and 22% cover of woody plants were, respectively, 0.6$^{\circ}C$ and 1.4$^{\circ}C$ cooler than a place with no vegetation. To mitigate the impacts of urban heat islands, required are minimization of hard surfaces, light-coloring for building surfaces, and greenspace enlargement including more plantings.
The aim of this study was to measure and compare the micro shear bond strengths of the following dentin bonding systems to the dentin surfaces under simulated pulpal pressure: All Bond $2^{\circledR},{\;}Second^{\circledR},{\;}AdheSE^{\circledR}$, Adper Prompt $L-Pop^{\circledR}$. The occlusal surfaces of 180 extracted human molars were prepared so the dentin bonding surfaces could be exposed. The teeth were randomly assigned to 3 equal groups of 60 each and subdivided. The dentin surfaces were treated with the above mentioned bonding system and resin composite cylinders were built up under a simulated pulpal pressure when saline (Group II) or diluted bovine serum (Group III) was used as the pulpal fluid. As a control. the same procedures were performed in the dried dentin surfaces (Group I). After one day of storage in water. the micro shear bond strengths were measured using an EZ tester. Group II and III showed significantly lower shear bond strength than Group I statistically (p < 0.05). $SEbond^{\circledR}{\;}and{\;}AdheSE^{\circledR}$ showed no difference among the different dentin condition. In the Adper Prompt $L-Pop^{\circledR}$. a simulated pulpal pressure were applied to the specimens using diluted bovine serum. which showed a higher strength than the specimens in which saline was used (p < 0.05).
