The objective of this study was to analyze the space usage and user evaluation of community facility in Apartment. This study was conducted case study and questionnaire survey. Four High rise Mixed-use Apartments in and near seoul built in 2000 and later were chosen for case study and 166 residents were collected for questionnaire survey. The frequency, percentage, mean, One-way ANOVA and Duncan tests were executed through SPSS for Win 12.0 statistics package program. The types of community facilities of High rise Mixed-use Apartments were consisted of sports, child care, study, information sharing, leisure/cultural facilities. Most of the community facilities showed to be similar regardless the subject of High rise Mixed-use Apartments. The usage percentage of community facilities increased since the residents have moved to their current residence of High rise Mixed-use Apartments from their previous residence. The most satisfied facility was sports facilities. The satisfaction of community facilities showed high in general. The satisfaction of community facilities was significant with age and the size of apartment.

Korea is the 3rd highest country in population density of the world,furthermore, 1/5 of Korean lives in Seoul with only 0.0% tiny area size. It explains the high-rise apartment has diffused so fast. Regardless of its height, almost all apartments have been planned in a very uniform way, ignoring the possibilities of vertical community and commercial culture. Since considerable number of residents have within building, ways to improve the community and commercial culture need to be explored. One major way to do is providing community space where residents are expected to use in a natural way. The purpose of this research is to identify preferred location of community space in each apartment building. Web guesting survey was used as main methodology. 83 data were collected during mid October, 2009. As results, lobby at the first floor was most favorably selected by super high-rise apartment residents due to convenience, accessibility.

This study was conducted to examine the environmental factors of apartments and therefore to suggest elements necessary to plan environments by evaluating and analysing both reside environments and conditions with residents at high-rise apartments in Kumi city. Kyongbuk. Korea. The result of this study is summarized as follows: The evaluation of satisfaction showed that residents residing at apartment A tended to be satisfaied with all factors other than ‘complex’ although there was wholly dissatisfaction. In addition. it was shown that apartment B was satisfaied with housing and complex. apartment C with comfort. respectively, and apartment D with housing.

As the society is industrialization and urbanization, the increase in density of urban population brought about the rise of the land value and the shortage of the land for housing, as a result urban housing shortage was on the rise in a new social problem. According to this high-rise apartment buildings is under construction, but that is required habitation and safety, especially security for fire safety, because it is various age group residents in for 24 hours. Consequently this study aims to present problems and countermeasures against fire safety of high-rise apartment buildings and to construct a residential space to minimize human life and property damage caused by a fire.

Since the middle of 1990, "High Rise Residential Complex" has been started to construct to fulfill the use of high density land use. In addition, it bacame a major solution for a rehabilitation project to achieve a high volume ratio, which in turn brings a good business. In this study, POE is applied to secure residential satisfaction level between Apartment and High Rise Residential complex. Also life style differences are investigated between the two type of complexes. It was resulted that recent High Rise Residential Complex is quite acceptable in most respects, however interior vetillation and direct wind flow from living space through dining - kitchen to ease the cooking scent is not a satisfactory level. These two factors are most highly demanded for future design of High Rise Complex in considering specialties in our cultural life style.

The result of this study is summarized as follows: 1) The motive of residence at apartment showed mainly the better environment of nature. and that the locational condition of those apartments was considered as a good standard for evaluating the apartment. 2) The evaluation of satisfaction showed that residents residing at apartment A tended to be satisfaied with all factors other than ‘complex’ although there was wholly dissatisfaction. In addition. it was shown that apartment B was satisfaied with housing and complex. apartment C with comfort. respectively. and apartment D with housing. 3) The evaluation of image showed that apartment C indicated the lowest variety of its complex while other factors were highly considered. Their image concerning residence was highest in apartment A. most lowest in apartment C. Then. apartment B showed the highest familiarity with and recognition of apartment complex.

Concern about global environment has been increasing in recent years. Efforts to minimize the environmental impact to the globe as well as human beings have increased, especially in the late twentieth century. The study researches one of the solutions for the environmentally friendly building construction, which can contribute to sustaining the world environment. Assessment and proposals are made for high-rise apartments, one of the most popular construction types nowadays in Korea. Since the volume of high-rise apartment construction is so great, a small improvement in each building will make a great contribution. Assessments are made over the life-span of apartment buildings. A tool named EIAHA (Environmental Impact Assessment for High-rise Apartment) has been made through references from western examples, mainly in the UK. The components of EIAHA include passive design strategies, building materials, energy consumption during building operation and management/maintenance. Although the issues are on a global scale, solutions are sought on regional scale. Korean high-rise apartments are assessed with the tool and suggestions for sustainable development are made mainly for improvement of embodied energy of building materials and the life of buildings.

High-rise apartments have a problem using natural ventilation because of the strong outdoor wind velocity. Conventional high-rise apartments have adopted mechanical ventilation systems to maintain the indoor air quality. However, it leads to the overuse of electricity and the sick house syndrome. Double-skin facade is the alternative for the high-rise building to use natural ventilation and this study is focused on the performance of the box-window, which is a kind of double-skin facades. Indoor wind velocity and HCHO concentrations are analyzed with three types of box-windows: the diagonal type, parallel type and perpendicular type. The airflow is simulated by computational fluid dynamics program. Box-windows reduce the maximum value of indoor wind velocity about 50% compared with the single window and the HCHO concentrations do not have the big difference. Box-windows could be the alternative to enhance the use of the natural ventilation and indoor air quality of the high-rise apartment.

Optimization of the RC pile cap for high rise apartment building has been performed with the aim of the cost minimization. The principle of divided parameters has been used. As a result the cost has been reduced by 25percentage.

The stack effect of a new type condenser installed in a high-rise apartment building was studied numerically A sirocco fan is introduced to the new type condenser instead of an axial flow In. The new type condenser intakes the cold air through the lower inlet and exhausts the hot air through the upper outlet. The effects of the building height and frontal wind on the performance of an air-conditioner were analyzed. The performance of an air-conditioner was evaluated by using COP (coefficient of performance) and CGPI (condenser group performance indicator). the hot air was exhausted by the new type condenser at an angle of 50$^{\circ}$ from the outer wall of the building. If there was no draft, the new type condenser installed in the high-rise apartment building had a good performance and its performance on each floor is not influenced by the stack effect. It is shown that the efficiency of the air-conditioner installed in several floors below the top floor decreased when the frontal wind velocity was greater than 8 m/s.
