  • In this paper we propose high quality audio coding algorithm using psychoacoustic modelling and the adaptive wavelet Packet decomposition. The bit allocation scheme exploits the remnants of temporal correlations that exist in the wavelet packet coefficients by SPIHT. The proposed algorithm achieve almost transparent coding of monophonic compact disk(CD) quality signals at about 44 kbps.

  • Remotely sensed data is regarded as a potentially effective data source for the measurement of water quality and for the environmental change of water bodies. In this study, we measured the spectral reflectance by using multi-spectral image of low resolution camera(LRC) which will be loaded in the OSMI multi-purpose satellite(KOMPSAT) scheduled to be launched on 1999 to use the data in analyzing water pollution. We also investigated the possibility of extraction of water quality factors in water bodies by using remotely sensed low resolution data such as NOAA/AVHRR. In this study, Shiwha-District and Sang-Sam Lake was set up as the subject areas for the study. In this part of the study, we measured the spectral reflectance of the water surface to analyze the radiance of the water bodies in low resolution spectral band and tried to analyze the water quality factors in water bodies by using radiance feature from another remotely sensed data such as NOAA/AVHRR. As the method of this study, first, we measured the spectral reflectance of the water surface by using SFOV( Single Field of View) to measure the reflectance of water quality analysis from every channel in LRC spectral band(0.4~O.9${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). Second, we investigated the usefulness of ground truth data and the LRC data by measuring every spectral reflectance of water quality factors. Third, we analyzed water quality factors by using the radiance feature from another remotely sensed data such as NOAA/AVHRR. We carried out ratio process of what we selected Chlorophyll-a and suspended sediments as the first factors of the water quality. The results of the analysis are below. First, the amount of pollutants of Shiwha-Lake has been increasing every you since 1987 by factors of eutrophication. Second, as a result of the reflectance, Chlorophyll-a represented high spectral reflectance mainly around 0.52${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of green spectral band, and turbidity represented high spectral reflectance at 0.57${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. But suspended sediments absorbed high at 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Third, Chlorophyll-a and suspended sediments could have a distribution chart as a result of the water quality analysis by using NOAA/AVHRR data.

  • We have performed to analyze the trophic state resulting of Lake Yongdam as a result of water quality and nutrient concentration. Lake Yongdam is artifitial multi-purpose Dam resulting from the floods of 2001. The water quality of Lake Yongdam may affect the status of the Geum river basin including the Daecheong reservoir. It is necessary to understand the trophic state to assess water quality until stability after flooding. Water quality was surveyed using depth and hydraulic condition analysis. Further density flow was estimated for stratification and trophic state of Lake Yongdam by chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration (2001~2004). And Environmental factors on chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration were analyzed statistically. Trophic state was evaluated as the oligotrophic state at the main stream of the reservoir and eutrophic state at the upper stream in 2001, but evaluated as eutrophic state in 2002 and 2003 by TSI of Aizaki. From the results of multiple regression analysis using stepwise method, chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration was shown to be very significant when nutrient concentration is high upon initial filling of the Dam. Chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration varied according to sample site, season and year. Concentration were high in the upper stream of Lake Yongdam 4, algae bloom in these watershed were affected by location and high nutrient levels in the summer season which have in turn increased phytoplankton bloom into the reservoir.

  • Eating quality is a reflection of consumer satisfaction, while beef quality grade describes carcass characteristics of chiller assessment which are largely influenced by production systems including breeding and feeding schemes. On the other hand, it should be emphasized that high palatability of beef is a function of production and processing components including breed, nutrition, animal handling, post-slaughter intervention and cookery. Numerous efforts have been made by Korean beef industry and research institutes to deliver high quality beef with which domestic beef consumers are satisfied. However, majority of studies have tended to focus on improvement of intramuscular fat content with little attention on its effect on consumer-based eating quality. Furthermore, there is very limited accessible information(if any) on relative importance of eating characteristics (eg, tenderness, juiciness and flavor intensity) to consumer satisfactory rate and palatability grade. On this regard, our recent results indicated, for example, that when m. longissimus was prepared by a thin-slice style BBQ, relative weightings of tenderness, juiciness and flavor intensity for consumer satisfactory rate were 0.4, 0.35 and 0.25, respectively. When eating quality was graded into 4 groups by a sum of tenderness, juiciness and flavor intensity after multiplying these coefficients, consumers responded that the palatability score for high quality beef should be higher than 79 points. Based on our recent experiments, the current report is intended to highlight relative importance of eating quality characteristics on consumer satisfactory rate, and threshold of eating quality grade. In addition, post-slaughter intervention techniques such as electrical stimulation and tenderstretch are given as examples of critical control points of palatability assurance program of Hanwoo beef.

  • Purpose : Middle school students in the early stages of adolescents need balanced growth and development, and they are in the process of forming healthy lifestyles and are in an important period when they need to lay the foundation for a healthy life through active health management and guidance. Through systematic health-related policies and education, I intend to lay the groundwork for them to form healthy lifestyles in their high schools and adulthood. Methods : For this study, a survey was conducted from September 1 to October 30, 2019, and 300 middle school students based in Busan Metropolitan City were surveyed. Based on the analysis and results of preceding studies, a research model was set up to find out the effect of family support, health control activities and self-efficacy on health promoting behaviors and how health promoting behaviors affect the quality of life. Results : First, if family support is high, health promotion behavior and quality of life are analyzed to be high, so family support is affecting health promotion behavior and quality of life. Second, health control behavior had a significant effect on health promotion behavior, but did not affect the quality of life. Third, self-efficacy was having a significant effect on health promotion behavior and quality of life. Fourth, health promotion behavior was affecting the quality of life. Conclusion : In order to improve the quality of life, middle school students should first increase their health promotion behavior, and it is important to be supported by their family members and strengthen their self-efficacy as variables that increase their health promotion behavior. First of all, they should be given the infinite trust of the family and the strong belief that the family always supports them, and based on this, the student himself will be able to strengthen his or her self-efficacy. In addition, the process of physical and mental change of students comes to everyone, but during this process, members of society, such as families and schools, should send them support and trust so that they can grow up to be the decent members of society.

  • Recently, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) adaptive streaming service is attracting attention. The existing quality adaptive scheme of HTTP adaptive streaming service adjusts the video quality according to the network bandwidth or the client buffer size. However, the problem with the existing quality adaptive scheme is the QoE (Quality of Experience) degradation caused by the unnecessary quality change that occurs due to frequent bandwidth change or fixed buffer threshold. We propose a video quality maintenance scheme that improves average video quality and minimizes unnecessary quality change in order to improve the QoE of HTTP adaptive streaming service in the changing network environment. The proposed scheme maintains high quality for a long time by setting the quality maintenance duration to be long when buffer occupancy and video quality are high. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme improves QoE by improving the average video quality and minimizing the quality change.

  • We report the growth of high quality zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films on amorphous glass substrates and their structural and optical characteristics. For the growth of ZnO films, mechanically exfoliated ultrathin graphite or graphene layers were used as an intermediate layer because ZnO does not have any heteroepitaxial relationship with the amorphous substrates, which significantly improved the crystallinity of the ZnO films. Structural and optical characteristics of the films were investigated using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and variable temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy. High crystallinity and excellent optical characteristics such as stimulated emission were exhibited from the high quality ZnO films grown on glass substrates.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the needs in foodservice in the view of students and to determine the ways to improve the foodservice quality. A survey was undertaken from 381 high school students by using a self-completed questionnaire regarding the student' satisfaction on the foodservice. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS program for descriptive analysis, t-test, and analysis of variance. The students assessed the importance and performance of the meal service as 4.19 and 2.52 out of 5, respectively, which suggests that the school foodservice needs to be improved. The attributes identified in Quadrant A, which was labelled 'focus here' and supposed to incidate the areas of high importance but in low performance, were the availability of meals that the students like, variety of menu, taste of the food, sanitary quality of the food, sanitized utensil, and response to complanints. The results of Importance-Performance Analusis(lPA) indicated the areas that the attention of management should be given to improve the quality of foodservice.

  • This study investigates how American English high back vowels are identified. American English and Korean speakers participated in a phonetic experiment for this study. This study shows their response times of the vowels and discusses how the speakers identified them. For the experiment I used a synthesized vowel continuum between American English /u/ and /$\mho$/based on American English male speakers' voice obtained by Peterson and Barney (1952). I manipulated spectral steps and vowel duration of the stimuli. The statistical results showed that American English speakers were not able to distinguish the stimuli based on spectral quality. Instead they relied on vowel duration. This suggests that the American English high back vowels have changed since Peterson and Barney recorded them in 1952. The Korean speakers also relied on vowel duration, not spectral quality since they could not distinguish them. American speakers' response times of these vowels were not affected by both spectral quality and vowel duration. Koreans' response times were affected by vowel durations only.
