정미기의 능률에 미치는 기계적 요인및 작동조건에 관한 연구 (Mechanical and Operational Factors Affecting the Efficiency of Rice Polishing Machines)

  • In analyzing the operational characteristics of a rice whitening machine, the internal radial pressure of the machine was measured using strain gage equipment. Changes in cylinder and feed screw configurations, screen type, cylinder speed and counter-pressure levels were examined to determine their impact on the quality and quantity of milled rice and the performance of the machine. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The internal radial pressure in the whitening chamber varied with the surface condition of the grain being processed. During the first or second pass through the machine, pressure was relatively low, reached a maximum after two to three passes with combinations I and II, three to six with combination III and then began to fall. 2. The pitch of the feed screw and the size of the feed gate opening which determine the rate of entry of grain into the whitening chamber, appeared to be the most important factor aff-::cting the degree of radial pressure, quality and quantity of milled rice and the efficiency of the machine. Using a feed screw with a wide pitch (4.8cm), radial pressure was relatively high and head rice recovery ratio \vere quite low. In this case capacity and machine effic\ulcorneriency were much higher than obtained when using a feed screw with a narrow pitch (2.3cm). Very significant responses in radial pressure, head rice recovery rates and machine capacity were observed with changes in cylinder speed and counter-pressure levels when using the wide pitch feed screw. 3. The characteristics of the screen which surrounds the whitening chamber had an important effect on whitening efficiency. The existence of small protuberances on the original screen resulted in significant increases in both machine capacity and efficiency but without a significant decrease in head rice recovery or development of excessive radial pressure. Further work is required to determine the effects of screen surface conditions and the shape of the cylinderical steel roller on the rate of bran removal, machine efficiency and recovery rates. The size of the slotted perforations 0:1 the screen affects total milled rice recovery. The opening size on the original screen was fabricated to accommodate the round shape of Japonica rice varieties but was not suitable for the more slender Indica type. Milling Indica varieties with this screen resulted in a reduction in total milled rice recovery. 4. An increase in cylinder speed from 380 to 820 rpm produced a positive effect on head rice recovery for all machine combinations at every level of counter-pressure used in the tests. Head rice recovery was considerably lower at 380rpm using a wide screw pitch when compared to the results obtained at speeds from 600 to 820 r.p.m. The effects of cylinder speed On radial pressure, capacity and machine efficiency showed contrasting results, depending on the width of the feed screw pitch. With a narrow feed screw pitch (2.3cm), a direct proportional relationship was observed bet\ulcornerween cylinder speed and both radial pressure and machine efficiency. In contrast, using a 4.8 centimeter pitch feed roller produced a series of inverse relationships between the above variables. Based on the results of this study it is recommended when milling Indica type long grain rice varieties that the cylinder speed of the original machine be increased from 500-600 rmp up to a minimum of 800 rpm to obtain a greater abrasive effect between the grain and the screen. The pitch of the feed screw should be also reduced to decr\ulcornerease the level of internal radial pressure and to obtain higher machine efficiency and increased quality of milled rice with increased cylinder speeds. Further study on the interaction between cylinder speed and feed screw pitch is recommended. 5. An increase in the counter pressure level produced a negative effect On the head rice recovery with an increase in radial pressure, capacity, and machine efficiency over all combinations and at every level of cylinder speed. 6. Head rice recovery rates were conditioned primarily by the pressure inside the whitening chamber. According to the empirical cha racteristics curve developed in this study, the relationships of head rice recovery ($Y_h$) and machine capacity ($Y_c$/TEX>) to internal radial pressure ($X_p$) followed an inverse quadratic function and a linear function respectively: $$Y_h^\Delta=\frac{1}{{1.4383-0.2951X_p^\ast+0.1425X_p^{\ast\ast}}^2} , (R^2=0.98)$$ $$Y_c^\Delta=-305.83+374.37X_p^{\ast\ast}, (R^2=0.88)$$ The correlation between capacity and power consumption per unit of brown rice expressed in the following exponential function: $$Y_c^\Delta=1.63Y_c^{-0.7786^\{\ast\ast}, (R^2=0.94)$$ These relationships indicate that when radial pressure increases above a certain range (1. 6 to 2.0 kg/$cm^2$ based On the results of the experiment) head ricerecovery decrea\ulcornerses in a quadratic relation with a inear increase in capacity but without any decrease in power consump tion per unit of brown rice. On the other hand, if radial pressure is below the range shown above, power consumption increases dramatically with a lin\ulcornerear decrease in capacity but without significant increases in head rice recovery. During the operation of a given whitening machine, the optimum radial pressure range or the correct capacity range should be selected by controlling the feed rate and/or counter-pressure keeping in mind the condition of the grain, particulary the hardness. It was observed that the total number of passes is related to radial pessure level, feed rate and counter-pressure level. The higher theradial pressure the fewer num\ulcornerber of pass required but with decreased head rice recovery. In particular, when using high feed rates, the total number of passes should be increased to more than three by reducing the counter-pressure level to avoid decreaseases in head rice recovery (less than 65 percent head rice recovery on the basis of brown rice) at every cylinder speed. 7. A rapid rise in grain temperature seemed to have a close relationship with the pressure generated inside the whitening chamber and, subsequently with head rice reco\ulcornervery rates. The higher the rate of increase, the lower were the resulting head rice recoveries.

하저 지반특성 규명을 위한 전기비저항 탐사 (DC Resistivity method to image the underground structure beneath river or lake bottom)

  • 수로는 약선대를 따라 형성되는 경우가 많으며, 특히 강을 따라 단층이 발달하는 경우가 많다. 교량과 같은 수상 구조물의 건설을 위하여 탐사의 필요성이 많았음에도 불구하고 육상과는 달리 수상 전기비저항 탐사가 활발하게 적용되지 못한 것은 현장탐사와 해석의 어려움 때문이었다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 무엇보다도 중요한 것은 양질의 자료 획득이며, 양질의 자료 획득이 육상탐사보다 어려운 것은 영상화하고자 하는 지하구조가 물로 덮여 있다는 점에서 연유한다. 이 연구에서는 이와 같은 점에 중점을 두고 수치 모델링과 현장탐사 사례 분석을 통하여 수상 전기비저항 탐사 자료의 특성, 현장 탐사와 해석 방법에 대하여 논하였다. 수상 전기비저항 탐사는 전극이 물 표면에 혹은 물 바닥에 설치되어 있는가에 따라 탐사자료의 획득방법, 고려사항, 해석 방법이 달라지므로, 전극을 물 표면에 띄운 경우와 바닥에 설치한 경우로 나누어 논의를 전개하였다. 이를 통하여 하상 전기비저항 탐사는 수 층 하부 지반을 정확하게 영상화할 수 있음을 보였다. 또한 수상 전기비저항 탐사에서 전극을 물 바닥에 설치하는 것이 물 표면에 설치하는 것보다 훨씬 더 분해능이 높은 영상을 획득할 수 있으나, 육상탐사에 비하여 지하구조에 대한 민감도는 훨씬 낮고, 유동전위 등에 의하여 전기잡음이 높을 가능성이 높기 때문에 육상탐사보다 훨씬 높은 S/N 비를 갖는 현장 탐사자료의 획득이 필수적이며 가능한 한 높은 분해능을 갖는 전극배열을 선택하여야 하는 것으로 나타났다 전극을 물 바닥에 설치하는 방법은 고분해능 영상을 제공할 수 있기 때문에 지하의 정밀 영상을 획득하기 위한 정밀탐사에 적합하다. 이에 반해 물 표면에 전극을 띄워서 자료를 획득하는 방법은, 특히 이동하면 연속적으로 탐사하는 스트리머 전기비저항 탐사는 매우 빠른 시간에 넓은 지역을 탐사할 수 있기 때문에 개략탐사에 많은 활용이 기대된다.향상을 위해 좀더 적극적인 치료가 필요하다.과 TIMP-2의 발현의 정도는 차이가 있었으며, 각 장기의 특정한 세포에서만 발현이 되었다. TIMP-1의 경우 간과 신장에서는 방사선에 의해 발현이 증가되었으나 폐에서는 발현이 증가되지 않았다. TIMP-2의 경우 폐에서는 방사선에 의해 발현이 증가하였으나 간과 폐에서는 방사선에 의한 발현의 변화는 불규칙적이었다. 방사선 조사 후 경과 시간과 방사선량에 따른 발현의 변화도 일정하지 않았다.EX> 발현의 감소가 관찰되어, Captopril이 조기 폐손상을 억제하는 방사선보호제로서 기전의 일부에 $TNF\alpha$$TGF\beta1$이 관여함을 확인할 수 있었다.주의 정책으로 우리 민족의 정서와 문화를 보존하는 일에 등한시하여 왔다. 이 때문에 우리 민족 고유의 뿌리를 점차 잃어가고 있다. 이러한 시점에서 도시노점상을 정리하기 위한 목적으로 정부에서 도시 5일장을 개장한 것은 역사의 아이러니라 아니할 수 없다. 이렇게 정부주도로 개장된 5일장이 운영되어 온 지 2년이 되어가고 있다. 개장 초기에는 시에서의 지원도 적극적이고 소비자들의 호응도 좋았으나, 최근에 들어 활성화의 속도가 둔화되면서 도시 5일장의 개념을 재정립할 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 정부의 주도로 시작된 5일장이므로 정부의 적극적인 추진하에 풍물시장 번영회와 활성화 방안을 모색해야 한다. 쌍다리 풍물시장의 5일장을 활성화하기 위하여 도시 5일장의 개념을 ${\ulcorner}$국민들의 생활수준이 향상되고 여가를 즐길 수 있는 여건이 형성되고 있으므로 전통문화(향토문화)를 유지하고 시민들의 정서함양에 기여할 수 있는 여가공간 조성${\lrcorner}$으로 규정해야 한다. 이러한 개념 하에 5일장의 주체를 명확히 하기 위해 시청 지역경제과를 중심으로 지자제의 실시에

  • 随着消费者对环境的关注不断增加, 许多公司都积极从事环境营销来实现其目标. 不过, 有关环境的消费者的高度关注并不总是反映在他们的购买行为. 这表明需要有一个绿色消费的范围内个人的信仰体系的发展有深入的了解. 考虑到心理学的方法, 大量的研究机构已测试的基本因素和生态意识的消费者行为, 这些因素的相互关系. 然而, 以往的研究大多数集中于西方国家. 本研究使用韩国消费者为研究样本, 试图了解韩国绿色消费的基础, 发现跨文化在指导消费者的环保态度和行为的重要的普遍价值. 为此, 我们联系了Schwartz在1992年提出的10个普遍价值和价值-态度-行为层次模式的环境行为. 参照价值-态度-行为的框架, 我们提出的概念模型可以解释韩国消费者的环保态度中表现出了什么动机, 以及后来此态度如何影响他们的绿色选择. 其中, 可利用相关的环保价值的关系模式, 我们首先假设激励价值类型和环境态度之间存在特定的关系. 在假设2中, 环境态度被假定用来预测环境行为. 这个假设的基础是对环境有利的态度可能会产生许多不同的行为, 我们认为消费者对环境的有利的态度和各种环保行为是相关的. 因为有环保态度的人们会对环保行动方面的知识更感兴趣. 与假设2一致, 我们推测在不同的环保行为之间存在正相关关系. 564名大学生参加了这项研究. 样本包括308名男性, 254名女性, 2名参与者没有注明性别. 参加者的平均年龄为22.5(标准差=2.11)岁, 年龄范围从19岁到39岁. 至于专业, 我们作出了特别努力使得参与者来自于大学的不同学科. 所收集的数据是通过自我完成问卷调查. 问卷评估参与者的价值优先, 环境态度和行为. 我们进行了路径分来测试所提出的模型. 观测的模型的整体适配度为x2=72.01(p=0.00), GFI的=0.983, CFI=0.982, NFI=0.970, RMR=0.070, 和REMSEA=0.050. 大部分适配值表明了数据与模型拟合良好. 因此, 环境态度价值, 环境的非购买行为和环境的购买行为的层级关系得到了确认. 所有的预测路径被路径系数评估, 几个主要影响假设被确认. 在10个价值类型之外, 普遍性和力量是显著的但是与环境态度的关系是相反的. 与其他研究一致, 我们的结果证实了环境态度是引导各种关注环境的行为的一个重要因素. 最后我们发现环境非采购和购买行为之间有显著关系. 路径分析支持普遍性价值为韩国消费者的绿色意识提供了动机而且他们通过对环境的有利态度间接的支持了环保行为. 我们发现拥有高环境态度的参与者积极的投入到各种关注环境的消费者行为中. 在本研究中, 考虑到价值导致环保主义和进一步证实先前的结果我们提供了测试跨文化差异的机会. 此外, 我们已测试了关于三个不同类型的环境行为的态度与行为的关系. 环境的态度和行为之间的路径的不同优势, 研究人员建议, 应考虑行为的特异性, 努力改善低的态度-行为的相关性. 最后, 本文阐明了随着对环境不断增长的关注, 人们生活中的绿色行为也不断的增加.

북한 석탄 자원의 부존 및 활용현황과 연구동향 (Situation of Geological Occurrences and Utilization, and Research Trends of North Korean Coal Resources)

  • 북한에서 석탄은 전력 생산은 물론 산업용, 가정상업용 등 수송부문을 제외한 모든 에너지 수요부문에서 중추적 역할을 담당하는 주종에너지원이다. 북한은 전체 전력의 절반 정도를 석탄발전을 통해 생산하며, 모든 산업체의 열과 동력을 석탄에 의존하고 있다. 아울러 장기간 동안 대중 수출품목으로서 외화 획득에 지대한 기여를 하여 왔다. 그러나 1980년대 이래로 장기간 동안 무분별한 채탄으로 인해 대부분의 광산은 심부화가 급속도로 진행 되었고 광산설비의 노후화, 신규설비의 투자부족, 유류와 전력의 부족, 자재 공급 곤란, 잦은 수해로 인한 피해까지 겹치면서 1980년대 후반부터 석탄 생산량은 뚜렷하게 감소 추세를 보이고 있다. 북한의 석탄광상은 원생대로부터 신생대에 이르기까지 다양한 지질시대 지층에 배태되어 있으나, 가장 중요한 탄전지대는 평남분지 내에 분포하는 후기 고생대 퇴적층인 평안초군층의 립석주층 및 사동주층 함탄층이며, 이들은 평남북부탄전과 평남남부탄전을 이룬다. 북한 석탄의 약 90% 이상을 이 탄전에서 생산한다. 북한에서 석탄 분류는 탄화 정도에 따라 분류한 국제적 분류(토탄, 갈탄, 아역청탄, 역청탄과 무연탄)와는 다르게 산업적 견지에서 유연탄, 무연탄, 초무연탄으로 분류하고, 유연탄은 수탄(아갈탄), 갈탄, 역청탄으로 분류하며, 발열량 기준으로 고열탄, 보통탄, 저열탄으로 분류하기도 한다. 북한에서 지칭하는 초무연탄은 우리나라 뿐만 아니라 세계적으로도 분류되지 않은 석탄 등급이며, 북한에서만 유일하게 사용하고 있는 부니질 저급 석탄이다. 이 기고에서는 석탄의 국제적 분류와 북한 분류를 비교하고, 북한 석탄의 지질학적 부존특성 및 부존량, 활용분야 및 연구동향을 파악하여 북한 석탄 자원을 보다 정확하고 심도 깊게 이해할 수 있는 내용으로 구성하고자 하였다. 이 연구는 남북 광물자원 협력이 가시화 되었을 때 석탄과 관련된 과학적 및 산업적 협력 아젠다를 준비하는데 지침으로 활용 될 수 있을 것이다.

미래문제해결프로그램(FPSP)을 적용한 친환경 의생활 수업이 창의.인성 함양에 미치는 영향 (The effect of eco-friendly clothing teaching using Future Problem Solving Program on cultivating creative character)

  • 본 연구는 미래문제해결프로그램을 적용하여 의생활과 관련된 환경문제를 분석하고 해결방안을 찾아 실천함으로써 청소년의 창의 인성을 함양하는데 목적이 있다. 개발한 교수 학습 과정안으로 2011년 8월 23일부터 9월 8일까지 경기도 소재 고등학교 인문계 1학년 실험집단 2학급 77명의 학생을 대상으로 매일 1시간씩 3주 동안 수업을 실시하였다. 사전 사후 검사를 통해 수집한 자료의 통계는 SPSS 17.0 프로그램을 사용하였으며, 대응 독립 표본 t-test를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 학습주제는 '환경을 생각하는 의생활 문화'의 교육내용 요소에서 '섬유의 생산, 의복의 생산, 의복의 폐기와 재활용, 의복의 세탁'으로 선정하였으며, 미래문제해결프로그램(FPSP)을 적용한 13차시 교수 학습 과정안 및 학습 자료(문제 상황 4개, 개별활동지 2개, 팀활동지 10개, 동영상자료 7개, PPT 자료 7개)를 개발하였다. 유창성, 융통성, 독창성, 문제해결능력의 창의성은 유의하게 향상되었으며 유창성, 융통성, 독창성의 창의성 수준이 '평균이하'에서 '평균 이상'으로 향상되었다. 집단 간 차이 분석에서는 성별과 학업성적에 관계없이 유창성, 융통성, 독창성이 향상되었으며, 문제해결능력은 여학생에게 더 효과적이었으나 학업성적과는 유의한 관련이 없었다. 인성 변화는 학습내용에서 추출한 인성 요소인 환경보존의식이 가장 많이 향상되었으며, FPSP의 학습 방법적 측면에서 추출한 자신감, 배려심, 협동심의 인성도 유의한 차이로 향상되었다. 이러한 인성의 변화는 성별 및 학업성적의 차이와 관계없이 향상되었다. 이 연구를 통하여 가정교과는 창의 인성교육을 함양할 수 있는 중요한 교과이며, 가정 교과의 다양한 내용 영역에 미래문제해결프로그램(FPSP)의 창의적 문제해결 단계를 선택적으로 적용한다면 학생들의 문제해결능력의 향상 및 인성 함양 효과를 기대할 수 있으며, 가정 교과에 대한 흥미를 더욱 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

금리 스프레드와 산업별 주식 수익률 관계 분석 (Analysis of the relationship between interest rate spreads and stock returns by industry)

  • 본 연구는 다항회귀분석을 통해 장기금리와 단기금리의 차이인 금리 스프레드와 주식 수익률 간 영향을 분석한다. 기존 연구들은 미국시장을 중심으로 금리 스프레드를 통한 경기를 예측에 초점을 맞추어 진행되었다. 선행 연구들은 장단기금리의 기간을 조절하고 선행정도를 분석하며 금리 스프레드를 경기예측 선행지표로 검증했다. 국내에서도 2006년 경기종합지수 제 7차 개편 이후 금리스프레드를 경기 선행지수 구성항목에 포함하였으며 현재까지도 활용하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 국내 주식시장에서 금리스프레드와 산업별 주식 수익률에 대한 연구는 부족하다. 때문에 본 연구에서는 국내주식시장을 대상으로 금리스프레드와 산업별 주식 수익률은 분석했다. 회귀분석을 통해 인과관계가 높은 장단기 금리를 선정하고 선행기간 및 산업별 상관관계를 파악했다. 연구 과정에서 단순 선형회귀 분석(Simple Linear Regression)의 한계를 극복하기 위해 다항 회귀분석(Polynomial Linear Regression)을 활용해 설명력을 높였다. 분석 결과 6개월 선행하여 무보증 3년 회사채(AA-) 수익률과 콜금리 수익률의 차이 금리스프레드로 사용했을 때 높은 인과를 확인하였으며 산업별 주식수익률을 분석한 결과 해당 금리 스프레드와 자동차산업의 수익률의 관계가 가장 밀접함을 확인했다. 본 연구를 통해 국내에서 금리 스프레드가 경기예측뿐만 아니라 주식수익률과도 인과관계가 있음을 확인한 것에 의의가 있다. 금리스프레드만 사용하여 주식 가격을 예측하는 것에는 한계가 있을 수 있으나 다양한 요인들과 적절히 활용할 경우 강력한 팩터로 역할을 할 것이라 기대한다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70${\pm}$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32${\pm}$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. 사업계획서의 구성요소와 기업성과와의 관계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Business Plan Components and Corporate Performance)

  • 지금까지 이론적, 개념적으로만 제시되었던 사업계획서의 구성요소들을 문헌 연구와 예비조사를 통하여 선정하였다. 본 연구에서는 요인분석을 통하여 이들 구성요소들을 생산관련 요인, 실행관련 요인, 운영방향 관련 요인, 제품/서비스 관련 요인, 관련 요인의 5개 요인으로 축소하였다. 한편 기업 성과를 어떤 항목으로 측정할 것인가의 문제도 중요한 이슈가 된다. 평가 항목에 따라서 기업의 활동이 달라지기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 기업성과를 효과성, 적응성 및 효율성으로 구분하여 각각에 미치는 사업계획서 구성요소들의 영향을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 사업계획서 구성요소들은 효과성, 적응성 기업 성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것을 발견하였다. 특히 효과성에 있어서는 다른 성과지표에 비해서 상대적으로 회귀모형의 설명력이 양호하게 나타났다. 그러나 효율성 기업 성과에는 영향력의 방향이 일치하지 않았다. 전반적인 모형의 설명력을 나타내는 $R^2$$0.132^{\sim}0.213$으로서 회귀모형의 설명력이 낮게 나타나고 있는 것은 계획수립뿐만 아니라 실행에 있어서 그 중요성을 보여주는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 즉, 기업성과는 훌륭한 계획 하에서 훌륭한 실행이 뒷받침되어야 양호하게 산출될 수 있는 것이다. 본 연구는 그동안 개념적인 수준에 머무르고 있던 사업계획서의 구성요소와 기업성과와의 관계에 대한 실증적 연구라는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Disinfection of Fusarium-infected Rice Seeds by Prochloraz and Gaseous Chlorine Dioxide

  • Three species of Fusarium, F. fujikuroi, F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum, are known to be associated with bakanae disease of rice [1, 2]. F. fujikuroi infects rice flowers and survive in endosperm and embryo of the seeds. Infected seed is an important source of primary inoculum of pathogens [3]. Seeds of rice (Oryza sativa cv. Boramchan) collected from bakanae-infected field were found to be 96% infected with Fusarium sp., 52% with F. fujikuroi, 42% with F. verticillioides, and 12% with F. proliferatum as determined by incubation method and species-specific PCR assays. F. fujikuroi was detected at lemma/palea, endosperm and embryo whereas F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum were recovered only from lemma/palea by means of component plating test. Seed disinfection methods have been developed to control bakanae disease and prochloraz has been most widely used for rice seeds. Two chemicals formulated with prochloraz (PC 1) and prochloraz + hexaconazole (PC 2) that inhibit biosynthesis of ergosterol strongly reduced the incidence of Fusarium spp. on selective media to 4.7% and 2.0%, respectively. Disease symptoms of rice seedlings in nursery soil were alleviated by chemical treatment; seedlings with elongated leaves or wide angle between leaf and stem were strikingly reduced from 15.6 to 3.2% (PC 1) and 0 (PC 2), stem rots were reduced from 56.9 to 26.2% (PC 1) and 32.1% (PC 2), and normal seedling increased from 0.4 to 13.3% (PC 2). Prochloraz has some disadvantages and risks such as the occurrence of tolerant pathogens [4] and effects on the sterol synthesis in animals and humans [5]. For these reasons, it is necessary to develop new disinfection method that do not induce fungal tolerance and are safe to humans and animals. Chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$), that is less toxic, produces no harmful byproducts, and has high oxidizing power, has been reported to be effective at disinfection of several phytopathogenic fungi including Colletotrichum spp. and Alternaria spp. [6]. Gaseous $ClO_2$ applied to rice seeds at a concentration of 20 ppm strongly suppressed mycelial growth of Fusarium fujikuroi, F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum. The incidence of Fusarium spp. in dry seed with 8.7% seed moisture content (SMC) tended to decrease as the concentration of $ClO_2$ increased from 20 to 40 ppm. Applying 40 ppm $ClO_2$ at 90% relative humidity, incidence was reduced to 5.3% and resulted in significant reduction of disease symptoms on MS media. In nursery soil, stem rot was reduced from 56.9 to 15.4% and the number of normal seedlings increased from 0.4 to 25.5%. With water-soaked seeds (33.1% SMC) holding moisture in the endosperm and embryo, the effectiveness of disinfection using $ClO_2$ increased, even when treated with only 20 ppm for four hours. This suggests that moisture was a key element for action of $ClO_2$. Removal of the palea and lemma from seeds significantly decreased the incidence of Fusarium spp. to 3.0%. Seed germination appeared to decrease slightly by water-soaking at $30^{\circ}C$ because of increased SMC and by physical damage of embryos from hulling. These results indicate that the use of gaseous $ClO_2$ was effective as a means to disinfect rice seeds infected with Fusarium spp. and that moisture around the pathogens in the seed was an important factor for the action of $ClO_2$. Further investigations should be conducted to ascertain the best conditions for complete disinfection of Fusarium spp. that infect deep site of rice seeds.
