The rheological behaviour of high strength self compacting concrete (HS-SCC) studied through an experimental investigation is presented in this paper. The effect of variation in supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ four different types of processed crushed sand as fine aggregates is studied. Apart from the ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the SCMs such as fly ash (FA), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) ultrafine slag (UFS) and micro-silica (MS) are used in different percentages keeping the mix -paste volume and flow of concrete, constant. The combinations of rheology, strength and durability are equally important for selection of mixes in respect of high-rise building constructions. These combinations are referred to as the rheo-strength and rheo-durability which is scientifically linked to performance based rating. The findings show that the fineness of the sands and types of SCM affects the rheo-strength and rheo-durability performance of HS-SCC. The high amount of fines often seen in fine aggregates contributes to the higher yield stress. Further, the mixes with processed sand is found to offer better rheology as compared to that of mixes made using unwashed crushed sand, washed plaster sand, washed fine natural sand. The micro silica and ultra-fine slag conjunction with washed crushed sand can be a good solution for high rise construction in terms of rheo-strength and rheo-durability performance.
Differently from fly ash, the bottom ash produced from thermoelectric power plant has been treated as an industrial waste matter, and almost reclaimed a tract from the sea. If this waste material is applicable to foam concrete as an aggregate owing to its light-weight, however, it may be worthy of environmental preservation by recycling of waste material as well as reducing self-weight of high-rising structure and horizontal forces and deformations of retaining wall subject to soil pressure. This study has an objective of evaluating the effects of application of bottom ash on the mechanical properties of foam concrete. Thus, the ratio of bottom ash to cement was selected as a variable for experiment and the effect was measured in terms of unit weight of concrete, air content, water-cement ratio and compressive strength. It can be observed from experiments that the application ratios have different effects on the material parameters considered in this experiment, thus major relationships between application ratio and each material parameter were finally introduced. The result of this study can be applied to decide a mix design proportion of foam concrete while bottom ash is used as an aggregate of the concrete.

Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is an ultra high strength and high ductility cement-based composite material and has shown some promise as a new generation concrete in construction field. It is characterized by a silica fume-cement mixture with very low water-binder (w/b) ratio and very dense microstructure, which is formed using various powders such as cement, silica fume and very fine quartz sand (0.15~0.4mm) instead of ordinary coarse aggregate. However, the unit weight of cement in RPC is as high as 900~1,000 kg/㎥ due to the use of very fine sand instead of coarse aggregate, and a large volume of relatively expensive silica fume as a high reactivity pozzolan is also used, which is not produced in Korea and thus must be imported. Since the density of RPC has a heavy weight at 2.5~3.0 g/㎤. In this study, the modified RPC was made by the combination of ternary pozzolanic materials such as blast furnace slag and fly ash, silica fume in order to economically and practically feasible for Korea's situation. The fire resistance and structural behavior of the modified RPC exposed to high temperature were investigated.

In this study, we compared and analysed the early strength properties of mortar according to the kinds and replacement ratio of mineral admixture to select the kinds and replacement ratio of mineral admixture of high early strength concrete. For this purpose, mortar mixtures according to the kinds(FA, MK, ZR, BFS, DM) and replacement ratio(0, 2, 4% by volume of sand) of mineral admixture were selected. From our test data, early-age compressive strength decreased in accordance with the increase of replacement ratio of fly-ash(FA) & blast furnace slag powder(BSF) and, in case of addintion admixture, early-age compressive strength of with containing ZR & BFS appeared higher compared with containing other mineral admixture.

The use of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) as a substitute for natural aggregates in new concrete produces both economic and environmental advantages. Most of the RCA applications for pavements have been primarily applied to support layers for roads and airfields. This paper summarizes a work completed at the University of Illinois in partnership with the O'Hare Modernization Program to examine the effect of coarse and fine RCA on the concrete's fresh and hardened properties for airfield rigid pavement applications. Ten different RCA concrete mixtures were prepared with the incorporation of different percentages of RCA fines as well as replacement of cement with high volume percentages of supplementary cementitious materials such as Class C fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag to improve the workability and long-term properties of RCA concrete. All the mixes on this stage included 100% recycled coarse aggregates and the Two-Stage Mixing Approach was used as a mixing procedure. Based on the results obtained in the research, mixes with high percentages of recycled fine and coarse aggregates could be used for construction of airfield concrete pavements in conjunction with supplementary cementitious materials

Palm oil fuel ash (POFA) is a newly emerging pozzolanic material having high amount of silica content. Various forms of POFA were used in cement-based materials (CBMs) in replacement of cement in different dosages of low and high volume. Although, there are many researches on POFA to be used in concrete and mortar, however, this material was not practically used in the construction industry. Engineers and designers need to be confident to use any new developed materials by knowing all engineering properties at short and long terms. As durability concern, concrete pH value is one of the most important properties. Portland cement produces are alkaline initially, however, it may be reduced due to aging and its components. It is believed that by incorporation of supplementary cementitious materials in CBMs the pH value reduces due to utilization of Ca(OH)2 in pozzolanic reaction. This study is the first attempts to understand the pH value of mortars containing up to 30% POFA under different curing conditions and its changes with time. The results were also compared with the pH of ground granulated ballast furnace slag (GGBFS) and fly ash (FA) content mortars. In addition, the compressive strength of different mortars under different curing conditions were also studied. The results showed that the pH value of control mix (without cementitious materials) was more than all the blended cement mortars indifferent curing conditions at the same ages. However, there was a reducing trend in the pH value of all mortar mixes containing POFA.

Recently, due to the increase of high-rise buildings construction, many researches for making harden of concrete earlier and remove of forms faster are being performed to reduce construction period. From our test data, early-age compressive strength decreased in accordance with the increase of replacement ratio of fly-ash(FA) & blast furnace slag powder(BSF) and, in case of addition admixture, early-age compressive strength of with containing 4% appeared higher compared with containing 2%.

This study examined dynamic and characteristics and chloride penetration of concrete mixed with large amount of FA and BFS, which are considered for positive application to construction fields with purpose of long-tern durability of concrete structures. As a result of strength test on FA and BFS, FA concrete showed higher increase of strength compared to OPC, when FA4000 and FA5000 were mixed 30%, respectively. For BFS concrete, those mixed with 30% and 50% of BFS8000, respectively, showed higher or equivalent strength compare to OPC. As a result of test of chloride penetration on FA and BFS, diffusion coefficients of concrete mixed with 30% FA4000 and FA5000, respectively, showed to restrain average 6.5% of diffusion coefficient compared to OPC. And in case of BFS concrete, those mixed with BFS6000 and BFS8000, restrained diffusion of chloride ions 253% and 336%, respectively, compared to OPC. Therefore, Mixing 50% of BFS was most efficient in order to maximize restraint of chloride penetration according to metathesis of large amount. For relation between compression strength and diffusion coefficient of FA and BFS concrete, as strength increased, diffusion coefficient decreased. In this study, when mixing FA and BFS to concrete for long-run durability and restraint against chloride penetration, for FA, mixing it to concrete with less or equivalent 30% of replacement rate was most efficient. And for BFS, as fineness was higher and mixing it to concrete with less or equivalent 50% of replacement rate, there were results of higher strength compared to OPC and more efficient restraint of chloride ions.

This study examined the effect of binder-to-soil ratio(B/S) and water-to-binder ratio(W/B) on the flow and compressive strength development of soil concrete using high-volume supplementary cementitious materials. As a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement, 10% by-pass dust, 40% ground granulated blast-furnace slag, and 25% circulating fluidized bed combustion fly ash were determined in the preliminary tests. Using the low-cement binder incorporated with clay soil or sandy soil, a total of 18 soil concrete mixtures was prepared. The flow of the soil concrete tended to increase with the increase in W/B and B/S, regardless of the type of soils. The compressive strength was commonly higher in sandy soil concrete than in clay soil concrete with the same mixture condition. Considering the high-workability and compressive strength development, it could be recommended for low-cement soil concrete to be mixed under the following condition: B/S of 0.35 and W/B of 175%.

This study as using admixture (G), high early strength agent, calcium hydroxide {a(OH)2} and fine particle cement, etc which have been newly developed for the purpose of quality improvements like the improvement of early strength of concrete that the FA was substituted by 20%, etc, reviewed the possibility of the utilization in the great quantity and the results are summarized as the followings. Slump loss by the kind of mixing material of high early strength agent and Ca(OH)$_2$ showed the smaller width of decrease than that of plain to appear the improved results and fine particle cement and G admixture showed the large slump loss. Air contents were appeared to satisfy the target air contents at all mixing materials. Regarding the compressive strength of the concrete by the kind of mixing material, G admixture was appeared to be highest all on aging 3 days, 7days and 28days at the initial strength. And fine particle cement and high early strength agent showed higher strength increase rate on aging 3days than plain but showed that the increase of strength becomes gradually dulled as aging is increased. And Ca(OH)$_2$ had almost no effect.
