This study investigated the effects of the urban forest and street trees on flow and temperature distribution in the Daegu National Debt Redemption Movement Memorial Park. For this, we implemented tree-drag and tree-cooling parameterization schemes in a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model and validated the simulated wind speeds, wind directions, and air temperatures against the measured ones. We used the wind speeds, wind directions, air temperatures predicted by the local data assimilation and prediction system (LDAPS) as the inflow boundary conditions. To investigate the flow and thermal characteristics in the presence of trees in the target area, we conducted numerical experiments in the absence and presence of trees. In the absence of trees, strong winds and monotonous flows were formed inside the park, because there were no obstacles inducing friction. The temperature was inversely proportional to the wind speed. In the presence of trees, the wind speeds(temperatures) were reduced by more than 40 (5)% inside the park with a high planting density due to the tree drag (cooling) effect, and those also affected the wind speeds and temperatures outside the park. Even near the roadside, the wind speeds and temperatures were generally reduced by the trees, but the wind speeds and air temperatures increased partly due to the change in the flow pattern caused by tree drag.
Thermal mixing by steam jets in a pool is dominantly influenced by a turbulent water jet generated by the condensing steam jets, and the proper prediction of this turbulent jet behavior is critical for the pool mixing analysis. A turbulent jet flow induced by a steam jet discharged through a vertical upward single hole into a subcooled water pool was subjected to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. Based on the small-scale test data derived under a horizontal steam discharging condition, this analysis was performed to validate a CFD method of analysis previously developed for condensing jet-induced pool mixing phenomena. In previous validation work, the CFD results and the test data for a limited range of radial and axial directions were compared in terms of profiles of the turbulent jet velocity and temperature. Furthermore, the behavior of the turbulent jet induced by the steam jet through a horizontal single hole in a subcooled water pool failed to show the exact axisymmetric flow pattern with regards to an overall pool mixing, whereas the CFD analysis was done with an axisymmetric grid model. Therefore, another new small-scale test was conducted under a vertical upward steam discharging condition. The purpose of this test was to generate the velocity and temperature profiles of the turbulent jet by expanding the measurement ranges from the jet center to a location at about 5% of $U_m$ and 10 cm to 30 cm from the exit of the discharge nozzle. The results of the new CFD analysis show that the recommended CFD model of the high turbulent intensity of 40% for the turbulent jet and the fine mesh grid model can accurately predict the test results within an error rate of about 10%. In this work, the turbulent jet model, which is used to simply predict the temperature and velocity profiles along the axial and radial directions by means of the empirical correlations and Tollmien's theory was improved on the basis of the new test data. The results validate the CFD model of analysis. Furthermore, the turbulent jet model developed in this study can be used to analyze pool thermal mixing when an ellipsoidal steam jet is discharged under a high steam mass flux in a subcooled water pool.

The IMO (International Maritime Organization) is discussing the improvement of energy ef iciency of ships in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. Currently, by applying an ORC power generation system using waste heat generated from ships, high energy conversion efficiency can be expected from ships. This technology uses an organic medium based on Freon or hydrocarbons as the working fluid, which evaporates at a lower temperature range than water. Through this, it is possible to generate steam (gas) and generate power at a low and low temperature relatively. In this study, the analysis of heat flow between the refrigerant and waste heat in the ORC power generation system, which is an organic Rankine cycle, is analyzed using 3D simulation techniques to determine the temperature change, velocity change, pressure change, and mass change of the fluid flowing of the WHRU (Waste Heat Recovery Unit) inside and the outside the structure. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the mass change affects the structure, and this study analyzed the heat transfer of the heat exchanger from the refrigerant and the exhaust gas of the ship's main engine in the ORC power generation system using this technique.

This research aims todevelopa compression/absorption hybrid heat pump system using an $NH_3/H_2O$ as working fluid. The heatpump cycle is based on a combination of compression and absorption cycles. The cycle consists of two-stage compressors, absorbers, a desorber, a desuperheater, solution heat exchangers, a solution pump, a rectifier, and a liquid/vapor separator. The compression/absorption hybrid heat pump was designed to produce hot water above $90^{\circ}C$ using high-temperature glide during a two-phase heat transfer. Distinct characteristics of the nonlinear temperature profile should be considered to maximize the performance of the absorber. In this study, the performance of the absorber was investigated depending on the capacity, shape, and arrangementof the plate heat exchangers with regard tothe concentration and distribution at the inlet of the absorber.

An absorption chiller-heater using only a natural refrigerant hardly causes any environmental pollution. In an absorption chiller-heater, the performance of its high-temperature generator, which uses exhaust gases, is essential to achieving superior system performance. To investigate the performance of such a high-temperature generator, a laboratory-scale high-temperature generator working with exhaust gases was designed and tested. Changes in the performance of the high-temperature generator as a function of inlet conditions of the absorbing solution, such as air inlet temperature and mass flow, were investigated. It was observed that when the air mass flow rate ratio was increased from 80% to 120%, the heat capacity was increased by 30%, 33%, 34%, and 37%, respectively. Additionally, when the air inlet temperature was elevated from $170^{\circ}C$ to $210^{\circ}C$ for absorption solution concentrations of 56%, 55%, 545, and 53%, the heat capacity increased by 140%, 160%, 220%, and 224%, respectively.
This study was aimed at designing a condenser, as a component of the organic Rankine cycle system for ships. The condenser was manufactured through press molding to achieve a bent shape to enhance the heat transfer performance, considering the shape of the heat transfer plate used in a brazing plate heat exchanger. The heat transfer plate was made of copper-nickel alloy. The required heat transfer rate for the condenser was 110 kW, and the maximum number of layers was set as 25, considering the characteristics of high-temperature brazing. Computational fluid dynamics techniques were used to perform the thermal fluid analysis, based on the ANSYS CFX (v.18.1) commercial program. The heat transfer rate of the condenser was 4.96 kW for one layer (width and length of 0.224 and 0.7 m, respectively) of the heat transfer exchanger. The fin efficiency pertaining to the heat transfer plate was approximately 20%. The heat flow analysis for one layer of the heat exchanger plate indicated that the condenser with 25 layers of heat transfer plates could achieve a heat transfer rate of 110 kW.
In this work, a numerical investigation is performed for the combustion chamber of domestic gas boiler with 1-stage and 2-stage heat exchangers. The fluid flow and heat transfer performance is simulated with a structure change of heat exchanger. The numerical solution shows that the heat transfer of the 2-stage heat exchanger is about 24% higher than that of the 1-stage heat exchanger, while the pressure loss of the 2-stage heat exchanger increases. The temperature of combustion chamber with 2-stage heat exchanger is lower than that of 1-stage. This effect reduces thermal NOx with decrease of high temperature staying time of the combustion gas.

This study evaluates the effect of a heated circular cylinder's size on three-dimensional natural convection in a cubical enclosure. The Rayleigh number was varied between $10^3$ and $10^5$, and the Prandtl number was maintained at 0.7. In this study, the radius of the circular cylinder was changed by 0.1 L within a range of 0.1-0.4 L. The thermal and fluid flow characteristics were regarded to be independent of time in the range of the Rayleigh number and cylinder radius considered in this study. The surface-averaged Nusselt numbers of the cylinder and the enclosure were found to increase with the increase in the radius of the cylinder. The effect of the cylinder's size on natural convection in the enclosure was analyzed across the thermal and flow fields, and the distributions of the Nusselt numbers.

For a cooling performance research of the combustor operated in a extreme environment of a high temperature and high pressure, we accomplished a cooling performance analysis. Generally a heat transfer characteristic in cooling passage is known well experimentally and theoretically, however heat flux in the combustion chamber isn't. In this study, fluid flow combined with heat transfer analysis is accomplished about a combustor nozzle. We tried to analyze the cooling performance with a heat transfer characteristic of a gas and coolant side in the view point of quantity on the mass flow rate to be supplied to the cooling channel. And finally, evaluation on the thermal safety of nozzle wall material was accomplished.

In this study, in order to numerically analyze the heat flow characteristics in the valve according to the opening rate for the solenoid valve for hydrogen supply applied to the hydrogen storage tank, flow characteristics were comparatively analyzed. Through the analysis of pressure and temperature distributions within the valve according to the high-pressure supply condition of 70 MPa or more, the heat flow characteristics in the valve, inlet and outlet passage according to the opening rate of the valve were identified. As a result a sudden change in the fluid behavior appears in the neck region of the valve, and it is understood that the flow separation caused by the flow path shape of the expanded tube has a dominant influence on the flow characteristics. And, it was confirmed that the shape of the valve seat is a factor significantly affecting the improvement of flow rate and differential pressure performance.
