A turbine blade operates under high temperature, high pressure, and the loads have the characteristics that the amplitudes change. Therefore, it is important to perform a stress analysis considering thermal and pressure loads. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of these loads on gas turbine blade through thermal stress analysis. The analysis results shows that pressure in gas fluid flow around blade is high in leading edge part, Gas temperature is connections with pressure of flow around blade. The distribution of stress from blade is appearing as is different at suction side and pressure side.
It is desirable to collect the solar thermal energy at relatively high temperature in order to minimize the size of thermal storage system and to enlarge the scope of solar thermal energy utilization. In this study, to develop a solar collector that has both advantages of collecting solar thermal energy at high temperature and fixing conveniently the collector system for long term period, a cylindrical parabolique concentrating solar collector (M.C.P.C.S.C) was designed, which has several rows of parabolique reflectors and thin thickness such as the flat-plate solar collector, maintaining the optical form of concentrating solar collector. The thermal performance of the M.C.P.C.S.C. newly designed in this study was analysed theoretically and experimentally. The results are summarized as follows: 1) prediction equation for outlet temperature, $T_o$, of heat transfer fluid and for the thermal efficiency, ${\eta}$, of the collector were derived as; o $$T_o=[C+B1_n(\frac{I_c(t)}{pv^3})]T_i$$ o $${\eta}=\frac{A}{A_c}\dot{m}[(C-1)+B1_n(E{\cdot}di^6\frac{I_c(t)}{\dot{m}^3})]\frac{T_i}{I_c(t)}$$ 2) When the insolation on the tilted solar collector surface, $I_c$, was $900-950W/m^2$ and the heat transfer fluid was not circulated in tubular absorber, the maximum temperature on the absorber surface was $100-118^{\circ}C$, this result suggested that the heat transfer fluid could be heated up to $98-116^{\circ}C$. The maximum temperature on the absorber surface was decreased with the increase of the collector shape factor, $L_p/L_w$ 3) There was a good agreement between the experimental and theoretical value of solar collector efficiency, ${\eta}$, which was proportional to the collector shape factor, $L_p/L_w$ 4) It is desirable to continue the study on the relationship between the collector shape factor, $L_p/L_w$, and the thermal efficiency of solar collector.
Investigators have been perplexed with the thermal phenomena behind the recently discovered nanofluids, fluids with unprecedented stability of suspended nanoparticles although huge difference in the density of nanoparticles and fluid. For example, nanofluids have anomalously high thermal conductivities at very low fraction, strongly temperature-dependent and size-dependent conductivities, and three-fold higher critical heat flux than that of base fluids. Traditional conductivity theories such as the Maxwell or other macroscale approaches cannot explain why nanofluids have these intriguing features. So in this paper, we devise a theoretical model that accounts for the fundamental role of dynamic nanoparticles in nanofluids. The proposed model not only captures the concentration and temperature-dependent conductivity, but also predicts strongly size-dependent conductivity. Furthermore, we physically explain the new phenomena for nanofluids. In addition, based on a proposed model, the effects of various parameters such as the ratio of thermal conductivity of nanofluids to that of a base fluid, volume fraction, nanoparticle size, and temperature on the thermal conductivities of nanofluids are investigated.
Numerical simulations are performed for the thermal fluid flow around a circular cylinder, and the particle trajectories are calculated to investigate the particle motions and deposition characteristics. We aim to understand the effects of three important parameters (particle Stokes number, temperature difference in the flow and on the cylinder surface, and thermal conductivity ratio between the fluid and the particles) on the deposition efficiency. The results show that the thermophorectic effect is insignificant for particles with large Stokes numbers, but it affects particles with small Stokes numbers. The deposition efficiency increases with the increase in temperature difference between the flow and the cylinder or the decrease in ratio of thermal conductivity of the particles to the fluid. When thermophoresis becomes significant, the particles are deposited even on the back side of the cylinder.
This paper deals with experimental study on thermal characteristics that a cooling fluid is affected to ice ball as being measuring the temperature in storage tank and ice ball governing the rate of heat storage. Distributor was taken as inlet geometry factor. flow rate of cooling fluid which was a brine were 2, 4, and 6LPM, and 8, 10, and 12$^{\circ}C$ in the temperature difference for dynamic factors with respect to three ice ball types(103, 96, 76mm). In case of in flowing cooling fluid, since inertia force is suppressed by lower flow rate the amount of heat was transferred to ice ball by heat conduction high because density difference is high. And in case of larger ice ball, a long-term storage was available because reaching time at steady state is relatively long. consequently, smaller ice ball could be suitable to a short-term storage.
A flame deflector prevents a launch system from thermal damage by deflecting the exhaust flame of the launch vehicle. During the deflection of the flame, the flame deflector is subjected to a high-temperature and high-pressure flow, which results in thermal ablation damage at the surface. Predicting this ablation damage is an essential requirement to ensure a reliable design. This paper introduces a numerical method for predicting the ablation damage phenomena based on a one-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis. In the proposed procedure, the temperature and convective heat transfer coefficient of the exhaust flame are calculated using a fluid dynamics analysis, and then the ablation is calculated using a finite element analysis (FEA) based on the user-subroutine UMESHMOTION and Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) adaptive mesh technique in ABAQUS. The result of such an analysis was verified by comparison to the ablation test result for a flame deflector.
Thermal striping is a complex thermal-hydraulic phenomenon caused by fluid temperature fluctuations that can also cause high-cycle thermal fatigue to the structural wall of sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs). Numerical simulations using large-eddy simulation (LES) were performed to predict and evaluate the characteristics of the temperature fluctuations related to thermal striping in the upper internal structure (UIS) of the prototype generation-IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR). Specific monitoring points were established for the fluid region near the control rod driving mechanism (CRDM) guide tubes, CRDM guide tube walls, and UIS support plates, and the normalized mean and fluctuating temperatures were investigated at these points. It was found that the location of the maximum amplitude of the temperature fluctuations in the UIS was the lowest end of the inner wall of the CRDM guide tube, and the maximum value of the normalized fluctuating temperatures was 17.2%. The frequency of the maximum temperature fluctuation on the CRDM guide tube walls, which is an important factor in thermal striping, was also analyzed using the fast Fourier transform analysis. These results can be used for the structural integrity evaluation of the UIS in SFR.
The physical model of interest is based upon the concentric cylinder, where the outside cylinder is filled with optically thick and high temperature phase change material(PCM). The fluid is flowing through the inside cylinder to transfer the appropriate energy. The fluid is flowing through the inside cylinder to transfer the appropriate energy. The governing equations for the phase change material including internal thermal radiation and for the turbulent transfer fluid have been employed and numerically solved. The optically thick phase change justifies the P-l spherical harmonics approximation, which is believed to be appropriate choice particularly for the much coupled problem like in this study. The solid/liquid interface, temperature distribution within the PCM and the heat flux from the PCM to the transfer fluid have been obtained and compared with those of laminar transfer fluid. The numerical results show that the turbulent transfer fluid accelerates the solid/liquid interface and results in the increase of heat transfer rate from the PCM. The internal thermal radiation within the PCM, however, does not always playa role to increase the heat transfer rate throughout the inside cylinder. It is believed that the combined heat flux has been picked up more in the inflowing area than in the pure conductive phase change material.
The term 'High Speed Machining' has been used for many years to describe end milling with small diameter tools at high rotational speeds, typically 10,000-100,000rpm. The process was applied in the aerospace industry for the machining of light alloys, notably aluminum. In recent year, however, the mold and die industry has begun to use the technology for the production of components, including those manufactured from hardened tool steels. With increasing cutting speed used in modern machining operation, the thermal aspects of cutting become more and mole Important. It not only directly influences in rate of tool weal, but also affects machining precision recognized as thermal expansion and the roughness of the surface finish. Hence, one needs to accurately evaluate the rate of cutting heat generation and temperature distributions on the machining surface. To overcome the heat generation, we used to cutting fluid. Cutting fluid plays a roles in metal cutting process. Mechanically coupled effectiveness of cutting fluids affect to friction coefficient at tool-workpiece interface and cutting temperature and chip control, surface finish, tool wear and form accuracy. Through this study, we examined the behavior of heat generation in high-speed machining and the cooling performance of various cooling methods.
This paper reports an experimental study around a module about forced air flow by blower($35{\times}35{\times}6mm^3$) in portable PC(10mm high, 200mm wide, and 235mm long). The channel inlet flow velocity has been varied between 0.26, 0.52 and 0.78m/s. The power input to the module is 4Wthis report, particular attention is directed to the fluid flow and adiabatic wall temperature($T_(ad)$) around a module which is under fluid mechanical and thermal influences of the module. The fluid flow around a module was visualized using PIV system. Liquid crystal thernography is used to determine the adiabatic wall temperature around a heated module on an acrylic board. Plots of $T_(ad)$ (or F) show marked effects of dispersion of thermal wake near the module.
