Short-term high temperature degradation test was conducted on Hastelloy X, a candidate tube material for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR), to evaluate the variation of microstructure and mechanical property in air at $1050^{\circ}C$ during 2000 h. The dominant oxide layer was Cr-oxide and a very shallow Cr-depleted region was observed below the oxide layer. At the beginning of degradation, the island shape $M_6C$ precipitate (M=Mo-rich, Fe, Ni, Cr) was observed in matrix region. After 2000 h degradation, precipitate shape was changed to the chain shape and increased amount of precipitate. These results influenced mechanical property of the specimen which exposed in high temperature. Yield strength was decreased from 115MPa to 89 MPa after 24 h and 2000 h exposure, respectively.
Graphite is well known as a material which has high-temperature thermostable property, chemical resistance against acid and alkaline state also is very easy to environment. Nowadays the need of graphite product is increasing rapidly because of its advantages. In this paper, the mechanical property of newly developed graphite products with high density is investigated with especially in compression test. I introduced the graphite specimens for this study by NGF method with two expandable graphite and compared to the specimens of commercial graphite sheet from expanded graphite which made by the rolling process. I investigated the characteristics of these materials by measuring specific weight, hardness, compressive strength and investigating structures by SEM, It is verified that the graphite products with NGF method has superior properties for using gasket materials than that of commercial graphite sheet.
It is very important to determine the thermo-mechanical characteristics of the rock mass surrounding the repository of radioctive waste and the LPG storage cavern. In this study, Hwasoon-Shist. Dado-Tuff adn Chunan-Tonalite were the selected rock types. Temperature dependence of the mechanical properteis such as uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, Young's modulus was investigated by measuring the behaviour of these properties due to the variation of temperature. Also, the characteristics of strength and deformation of these rocks were examined through high-temperature triaxial compression tests with varing temperatures and confining pressures. Important results obtained are as follows: In high temperature tests, the uniaxial compressive strength and Yong's modulus of Tonalite showed a sligth increase at a temperature up to 300$^{\circ}C$ and a sharp decrease beyond 300$^{\circ}C$, and the tensile strength showed a linear decrease with increasing heating-temperature. In high-temperature triaxial compression test, both the failure stress and Young's modulus of Tonalite increased with the increase of confining pressure at constant heating-temperature, and the failure stress decreased at 100$^{\circ}C$ but increased at 200$^{\circ}C$ under a constant confining pressure. In low temperature tests, the uniaxial compressive and tensile strengths and Young's modulus of these rocks increased as the cooling-temperature is reduced. Also, the uniaxial compressive and tensile strengths of wet rock specimens are less than those of dry rock specimens.
In this study, the correction process of stress-strain curves obtained from hot compression test is introduced since the barreling induced by friction and adiabatic heat generation induced by plastic work occur under high strain rate. A shear friction factor was quantitatively estimated by measuring the dimension of barreling and temperature rise due to adiabatic heat generation was directly measured during compression test. Thereafter, the stress-strain curves were re-evaluated by introducing several equations to correct the effects of the friction and temperature rise. It was found that adiabatic factor at strain rate of 10/s is in the range of about 0.5 to 0.75 for Nimonic 80A and decreases as the assigned temperature increases.
Magnesium alloys have been rapidly attracting as lightweight structural material in various industry fields because of having high specific strength and low density. It is well known that the crystallographic texture plays an important role in improvement of poor room temperature ductility of magnesium alloys. In this study, high-temperature plane strain compression deformation was conducted on extruded AZ80 magnesium alloy at 723K by varying the strain rates ranging from 5.0×10-3s-1 to 5.0×10-2s-1 in order to investigate the behaviors of texture formation. It was found that texture formation behaviors in three kinds of specimens were affected by continuous and discontiuous deformation mechanism.
This work describes a method for determining material parameters included in recrystallization and grain growth models of metallic materials. The focus is on the recrystallization and grain growth models of Ni-Fe based superalloy, Alloy 718. High temperature compression test data at different strain, strain rate and temperature conditions were chosen to determine the material parameters of the model. The critical strain and dynamically recrystallized grain size and fraction at various process conditions were generated from the microstructural analysis and strain-stress relationships of the compression tests. Also, isothermal heat treatments were utilized to fit the material constants included in the grain growth model. Verification of the determined material parameters is carried out by comparing the average grain size data obtained from other compression tests of the Alloy 718 specimens with the initial grain size of $59.5{\mu}m$.

Dynamic shear moduli of isolated soy protein solutions upon heating were measured to monitor gelation. Onsets of gelation coincide with onset temperatures of denaturation in glycinin and ${\beta}$-conglycinin solutions, whereas in isolated soy proteins, onset of gelation was above denaturation temperature of ${\beta}$-conglycinin with storage modulus increasing in two steps. The first increase in storage modulus of isolated soy proteins occurred at about $78.5^{\circ}C$, while the second increase started at about $93^{\circ}C$. Gel properties of soy protein gels having different proportions of glycinin and ${\beta}$-conglycinin were measured by compression-decompression test. ${\beta}$-conglycinin was responsible for gel elasticity. Glycinin significantly increased hardness, toughness, and fracturability of gels at high heating temperature near $100^{\circ}C$. Results reveal texture of soy protein gels can be controlled by regulating ratio of glycinin to ${\beta}$-conglycinin and heating temperature.
Effects of forging and mechanical properties of 6061 aluminum alloy wheel for automobiles were investigated in the present study. Microstructural and tensile characteristics of automobile wheel after hot forging process using dynamic screw press were analyzed to evaluate effect of metal flow on mechanical properties. The results showed advanced mechanical properties of 6061 alloy wheel because of $Mg_2Si$ precipitation by T6, elongated grain by forging, and work hardening by dense metal flow, etc. Hot compression tests were conducted in order to characterize high temperature compression deformation behaviors and microstructural variation in the range of $300{\sim}450^{\circ}C$, in the strain rate range of $10^{-3}{\sim}10^1\;sec^{-1}$. As strain rate increased, maximum compression stress increased but it was shown the reverse linear relation between temperature and maximum stress irrelevant to strain rate variation. On the other hand, temperature and yield stress didn't have any linear relation and its relation showed big deviation by a function of strain rate and test temperature.
