In Korea, many buildings are built with underground spaces and cast-in-place pile method is mostly applied in the temporary retaining walls for the underground space construction. A H-shaped steel section is generally embedded in the soldier pile in the C.I.P method. In this study, a new and economical section with high strength steel replacing the H-shaped section was proposed and its flexural capacity was evaluated experimentally. The new section is the concrete-filled composite section with pentagonal thin plate and thick flange plate. Test results showed that the proposed section has an excellent flexural strength and ductility.
The purpose of this study was to contribute to the field application cost effectively and reasonably by developing the functional piles that reinforces shear force. CFP pile (Concrete Filled Pretensioned Spun High Strength Concrete Pile with Ring type Composite shear connectors) developed in this study increases the shear stress by placing composite shear connector and filling the concrete into hollow part of the pile. By placing the reinforcement (H13-8ea) and the reinforcement (H19-8ea) into hollow section inside of PHC piles, it also improves the shear strength due to increasing steel ratio. It reinforces shear strength effectively by dowel force that is generated by putting reinforcement (H13-8) into the holes of composite shear connectors for the composite behavior of filled concrete and PHC pile. The study was reviewed and compared the calculated result of the shear strength by limit state design method highway bridge design standards (2012) and experiment result of the shear strength by KS F 4306. We can design the shear strength reasonably as the safety ratio of 2.20, 2.15, 2.05 is shown comparing to design shear strength, according to design shear strength on each cross sections and the experiment results of the CFP pile.
A pile is a type of medium for constructing superstructures in weak geotechnical conditions. A pretensioned spun high-strength concrete (PHC) pile is composed of high-strength concrete with a specified strength greater than 80 MPa. Therefore, it has advantages in resistance to axial and bending moments and quality control and management since it is manufactured in a factory. However, the skin friction of a pile, which accounts for a large portion of the pile bearing capacity, is only approximated using empirical equations or standard penetration test (SPT) N-values. Particularly, there are some poor research results on the pile-soil interface under the seismic loads in Korea. Additionally, some studies do not consider geoenvironmental elements, such as groundwater pH values. This study performs sets of cyclic simple shear tests using submerged concrete specimens for 1 month to consider pH values of groundwater and clay specimens composed of kaolinite to generate a pile-soil interface. 0.2 and 0.4 MPa of normal stress conditions are considered in the case of pH values. The disturbed state concept is employed to express the dynamic behavior of the interface, and the disturbed function parameters are newly suggested. Consequently, the largest disturbance increase under basic conditions is observed, and an early approach to the failure under low normal stress conditions is presented. The disturbance function parameters are also suggested to express this disposition quantitatively.
H-pile can be more easily driven than pipe pile by pile driver and shows high skin friction and plugging effect. And lately It is well grown that the high strength H-pile has been widely used f3r pile foundations. To compare the skin frictions of H piles under different density soil conditions, this paper presents results of a series of model tests on vertically loaded group piles. Model piles made of steel embedded in weathered granite soil were used in this study. Pile arrangements $(2\times2,\;3\tunes3)$, pile space(2D, 4D, 6D), and soil density$(D_r=40\%,\;80\%)$ were tested. The main results obtained from the model tests can be summarized as follows. The series of tests found that compression load for group piles increases as number of piles increase and piles space ratic decrease to $D_r=40\%$ of soil density. The analysis also found that the theoretical value of skin friction for group piles is greater than practical value as piles space ratio increases to $D_r=40\%$ of soil density. Piles showed the greatest difference of the skin friction in case that the pile space ratio(S/D) is 6. The theoretical value by Meyerhof and DM-7 showed 1.83 times and 1.32 times respectively as great as practical value in case of S/D=6 and $2\times2$.

The objective of this study is theoretical and empirical evaluation of the flexural performance of concrete filled pretensioned spun high strength concrete pile with ring type composite shear connectors (CFP pile). The specimens are comprised of standard CFP pile, PHC pile+composite shear connector+filed concrete (CFP-N-N), standard CFP pile with $1^{st}$ reinforcements (H13-8ea), and standard CFP pile with $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ reinforcements(H19-8ea). Flexural performance evaluation results showed that the ductility is improved with increased steel ratio, which leads to the increased maximum load by 46.4% (with $1^{st}$ reinforcement) and 103.9% (with $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ reinforcements) compared to standard CFP ( CFP-N-N). Comparing with the predicted ultimate limit state values of the CFP pile design method and the experimental results, the design method presented in this study is reasonable since safety factor of 1.23 and 1.40 times for each reinforcement step are secured.

This study evaluated a shear capacity of confined socket-bolt (CSB) shear connector developed for utilizing cast in placed pile (CIP) as a permanent underground wall. The push-out tests were performed in the specimens with different CIP types, CSB shear connector types, L/d, and concrete compressive strengths of concrete pile, and with or without waterproofing at interfaces between CIP and underground wall. Test results showed that the specimens with a H-shaped pile were fractured in the CSB shear connector, while the fracture concentrated in the concrete part of the specimens with a reinforced concrete pile was alleviated as the compressive strength of the concrete pile increased, resulting in the severe fracture of CSB shear connector. The maximum shear capacities of the specimens with high strength bolts and reinforcing bars used as CSB shear connector were approximately 1.22 and 1.20 times higher than those of the specimens with a H-shaped pile, respectively, and 1.10 and 1.16 times higher than those of the specimens with a reinforced concrete pile, respectively. Meanwhile, the maximum shear capacity was not significantly affected by the embedding length of the CSB shear connector and overlapping length of reinforcing bar. The predicted shear capacities calculated from the KDS standards were lower than the measured values of all specimens tested in this study.

The purpose of this study was to contribute to the field application cost effectively and reasonably by developing the functional piles that make up for the defects of PHC piles. CFP (Concrete Filled Pretensioned Spun High Strength Concrete Pile with Ring type Composite shear connectors) piles developed in this study increases the compressive stress through enlarged cross section by rearranging composite shear connectors and filling the hollow part of PHC pile with concrete. And it improved shear and bending performance placing the rebar (H13-8ea) within the PHC pile and the hollow part of PHC pile of rebar (H19-8ea). In addition, the composite shear connectors were placed for the composite behavior between PHC pile and filled concrete. Placing Rebars (H13-8ea) of PHC pile into composite shear connector holes are sleeve-type mechanical coupling method that filling the concrete to the gap of the two members. Nonlinear finite element analyzes were performed to verify the performance of shear and bending moments and it deduced the spacing of the composite shear connectors. Through a various interpretation of CFP piles, it's proved that the CFP pile can increase the shear and bending stiffness of the PHC pile effectively. Therefore, this can be utilized usefully on the construction sites.

Piles are often subjected to both axial and lateral loads. The nonlinear subgrade reaction method is widely used for the design of laterally loaded piles and in this approach the soil reaction is replaced with a series of independent nonlinear Winkler springs. In this study, Laterally loaded high strength H-piles were analyzed using a finite difference solution, and three p-y curve models with different k values(the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction, [FL$\^$-3/]) were evaluated using data obtained from various field tests, and another analysis method using Q$\sub$g/ - y$\sub$g/ curve was developed. The results of this analysis were compared with the measured values to assess their applicability.
