Environmental Noise Prediction using Scale Model: A Measurement Methodology

  • Today, rolling stock has become a fast and convenient mode of transportation and has witnessed increased demand. But the speed improvement has resulted in increased aerodynamic noise and therefore residential districts near the railroad tracks are exposed to ever increasing noise level. A study on methodologies for measuring and appraising rolling stock's environmental noise has therefore become an important area of endeavor. In the case of the environmental noise, there are no changes in tone so prediction can be made by reducing areas around the railway. The present study explores estimation of the noise around the railway using scale model, and the source of the noise has been investigated as well. The scale model of rolling stock will have to be able to measure high frequency noise and it is required to be generated in a short amount of time. Since popping a balloon or firing a gun fits this requirement the present study analyzed the characteristics of these two different noise sources. Measurement was made in a large vacant lot and the reflection due to the ground was also examined. The method proposed here can be used in the future for predicting the environmental noise of railway vehicles.

호남고속철도 동적 안정성 요구 조건을 고려한 강합성 거더교의 변수 연구 (Parametric Study on Steel composite Girder bridges for HONAM High-Speed Railway Considering Criteria Requirement of Dynamic Response)

  • 고속철도 교량은 고속주행 열차의 차축 주기하중 효과와 교량 고유의 동적특성에 의한 동적 증폭 효과로 인하여 구조물의 안전성에 영향을 받는다. 그리고 교량의 과도한 변형으로 인하여 차륜과 레일의 접촉력 감소, 궤도틀림 등의 윤중 변동이 일어나 열차의 주행안전성 및 승차감을 저해할 수 있다. 이러한 궤도 안전성을 확보하기 위하여 동적거동에 대한 교량상판수준의 수직가속도 제한, 차륜-레일간의 접촉과 열차주행 안전성 확보를 위한 상판 면틀림 제한, 단부 회전각 변위 제한, 차량하중에 의한 교량의 수직 처짐 제한을 반드시 만족시켜야 하며, 필수적으로 공진에 대한 검토도 이루어져야 한다. 신설되는 호남고속철도에서는 기존의 경부고속철도와 다른 콘크리트 도상을 적용하고, 궤도간격, 설계열차하중 등이 변경되어 적용되므로 새로운 동적안정성 요구조건을 적용하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 콘크리트교량에 비해 진동특성이 취약한 것으로 알려진 강합성 거더 고속철도 교량의 동적거동 분석을 수행하였다.

  • The prototype test train(HSR 350X) was developed and is now being tested in R&D project for developing Korean High Speed Rolling Stock. International cooperative works with German, Japanese, Danish English and Swiss company were done for reviewing the results made by domestic companies and enhancing their design capability. The main results of cooperation are shown in this paper. In addition, some problems and comments issued during cooperation are also represented.

  • This is a research thesis on the development of a monitoring and diagnosis device that prevents the risk of an accident through monitoring and diagnosis of a modular Main Circuit Breaker (MCB) using Vacuum Interrupter (VI) for Korean high-speed rolling stock. In this paper, a comprehensive MCB monitoring and diagnosis was performed by converging vacuum level diagnosis of interrupter, operating coil monitoring of MCB and environmental temperature/humidity monitoring of modular box. In addition, to develop an algorithm that is expected to have a similar data processing before the actual field test of the MCB monitoring and diagnosis device in 2023, the cluster analysis and factor analysis were performed using the WEKA data mining technique on the big data of Korean railroad transformer, which was previously researched by Tae Hee Evolution with KORAIL.

KTX 운행현황을 고려한 고속선 레일 연마 기준 정립에 대한 연구 (Study on the Establishment of Rail Grinding Criteria of High-Speed Railway Lines Considering the KTX Operation Circumstances)

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing more according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stock, rail surface defects may cause shortened fatigue life of rail, acceleration of track degradation and reduced ride comfort. The paper was intended to study the establishment of rail grinding criteria of high-speed railway lines considering the KTX operation circumstances. For this, the specimens of UIC 60 rail on Kyeong-Bu high-speed operation lines were collected and they were analyzed for metallographic structure and tested for the hardness. By analyzing the test results to the factors affecting the RCF causing the defects of rail surface, the study suggested the rail grinding criteria of the domestic high speed railway lines. As the factors affecting RCF, passing tonnage, running speed and track condition are considered.

  • In this paper, an effect on power conversion unit in high-speed railway vehicle by loss of contact between a catenary system and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed railway vehicle are investigated. One of the most important needs accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed railway vehicle is reduced that arc phenomenon by loss of contact brings out EMI. in case of high-speed railway vehicle using electrical power, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, PLD(Power Line Disturbance) such as harmonic, transient voltage and current, EMI, dummy signal injection etc usually occur. To analysis the effect on loss of contact, it is necessary electrical modeling system between the contact line and the pantograph according to the loss of contact. Therefore analytical model of a contact line and a pantograph is constructed to simulate the behaviour of loss of contact. The reliability of the modeling system is verified by simulation implementation on kinds of loss of contact.

EN12663과 prEN15227에 따른 객차의 구조적 요구사항 검토 (An overview of the structural requirements of passenger carrying rolling stock according to EN12663 and prEN15227)

  • As the South Korean rolling stock industry is developing designs for full compliance with the European Standards, it is fitting to take a look at these two core standards. The paper presents an overview of the load cases and structural requirements developed in Europe for the design of safe and compatible rolling stock vehicles. These load cases and structural requirements have been compiled into two standards namely EN12663 and EN15227. Standard EN12663 was developed as a reference design requirements standard. The work was mandated and sponsored by the European Committee for Standardization and Standard issuing National Institutions. EN12663 specifies a series of proof and fatigue load cases for European rolling stock regulations compliant vehicle designs. As EN12663 does not address the crashworthiness issue, a dedicated crashworthiness standard, EN15227, was therefore developed in a similar manner through industry wide consultations managed by a Trans-European working group of experienced engineers and specialists. In both standards, the vehicle and/or trains are grouped into categories reflecting the vehicle types and/or their indented operational function. EN15227, developed to complement EN12663, addresses the "passive" crashworthiness capability of the vehicles and trains. EN15227 specifies reference crash scenarios similar to those found in the Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI) of high speed trains operating in Europe. The overview also touches on a general comparison with the corresponding British Group Standard (GM/RT2100) and also the UIC leaflet based load cases. The exercise is extended to pertinent design load cases specified by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) in the US.

  • In this study, we have studied rail infrastructure related to emergency action to manage the risk when emergency caused by faults of facility or rail vehicle during operation happens. Especially we have compared the effect of emergency action with examining the structure of vehicle, tunnel, bridge and access road, etc which are related to emergency action. Also, we have tried to analyze effects of radio and communication equipment, lifesaving and refuge which could be used for rolling stock, station, control room, tunnel, bridge and etc, and we have presented the way of reporting the emergency to the train driver or crew, control room, outside networks which could be used by passengers in vehicle, station, railroad line. Based on these, we have analyzed the conduct of emergency action in length of time when emergency happens in railway and high-speed railway, and studied the method of which passengers could be guided safely and escape from the scene of the accident.

동시공학설계환경에서의 고속철도 주행시뮬레이터 개발 (Development of the Driving Simulator of High Speed Train based on the Concurrent Engineering Design Environment)

  • The concurrent engineering technologies have been broadly used in the field of the design, testing, manufacturing and maintenance works to reduce development time and costs. For this purpose, many design environments with the product data management system, the virtual engineering system and web database system are developed. In this research, we developed the driving simulator of the KTX(Korea Train Express) as a basic study for building the concurrent engineering design environment of rolling stock. The virtual track was developed from the Seoul to the Busan and the Daejeon to Mockpo to generate immersible driving environment. Also. fault generation systems were developed to educate drivers of the KTX. We expect to reduce the time and costs of newly developed rolling stock using the design environment developed in the research.

Influence of Semi-active Suspension on Running Safety of Vehicles

  • Railway vehicles equipped with semi-active suspension system can improve the ride quality of car bodies. Semi-active suspension system is usually applied onto high speed train, and therefore higher running safety requirement is desirable. The influence of semi-active suspension system on safety of vehicles running on straight line and curve line is studied, and the influences of sky hook damping coefficient and system time-delay on operational safety of cars fitted with semiactive suspension system is analyzed. The results show that in vehicles equipped with semi-active suspension system, while the vibration of car body is decreased, the running safety of cars is not affected to any significant degree. As a result, the ride quality is much improved with negligible deterioration of the running safety of cars.
