  • Almost all existing inspection methods for catenary system have relied on dedicated track inspection cars. Two factors make it necessary to modify the conventional method: First, the climate has become increasingly similar to that of a subtropical area. In addition, high speed trains have been developed that can run as fast as 450Km/h. This paper presents a visual catenary inspection system structure that incorporates roadbed information for high-speed running environments. Conventional catenary inspection systems determined the degree of wearing only for the trolley wire. The facility inspection system presented in this paper on the other hand utilizes visual and sound data of inspection targets and adjusts inspection frequency and sensitivity depending on the geographic data.

  • Nowadays, double-system of TFM(Track-side Functional Modules) developed instead of single-system in use of high speed line to acquisition more availability. Safety Law for Railroad recommend to quality certification of development and general railway machines. It is important to select metrics which form the bases for testing software products. A number of package software development part do not open source cords, so testing external characteristic vectors having relationship with metrics. In this paper, review the process for the TFM Point Modules, Universal Modules and Switchers, think about the test methode of circuit boards output performance by using TFM tester and Simulators.

  • This paper proposed a program of an energy storage system(ESS) for peak shaving of high-speed railway substations The peak shaving saves cost of equipment and demand cost of the substation. To reduce the peak load, it is very important to know when the peak load appears. The past data based load profile forecasting method is easy and applicable to customers which have relatively fixed load profiles. And an optimal scheduling method of the ESS is helpful in reducing the electricity tariff and shaving the peak load efficiently. Based on these techniques, MS. NET based peak shaving program is developed. In case study, a specific daily load profile of the local substation was applied and simulated to verify performance of the proposed program.

  • Transportation planners are increasingly adopting policies aimed at changing travel choices made by general commuter. Theories on the relationship between high-speed technology and transport address changes in travel behavior of regional commuter due to alterations in the Kyung-Bu railroad transportation corridor. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between travel behavior and high-speed technology. The KORAIL data allows us to explore the differences between travel characteristics that are usually hard to discern by guesswork. The effects of travel time were found to be significant in the full decisions that control for commuting KTX. Although many argue that transportation behavior cannot be changed, this paper demonstrates that about 4 years of behavioral data on KTX travel show otherwise. In this paper we explore several possibilities to fill in some of the gaps in our knowledge on the expansion of commuter belt.

  • The aim of this research is to find out how the common earth network affects the level of the traction return current in the $2{\times}25 kV$ Power Supply System. The traction return current plays a significant role in the operation of the facilities near the rails. It is shown that the common earth network in the $2{\times}25 kV$ power supply system not only minimizes the level of the traction return current, but also increases the safety of the working crew on the railways. In order to determine the relationship between common earth network and the traction return current, we investigated the earth system of the Gyongbu High Speed Line that is constructed following the SNCF regulations. We carried out the field test in the Osong station. The results of the test show that the common earth network minimizes the effect of the traction return current. We also find that the simulated results are very similar to the test results. We concluded that the results of the test can be applied for the rest of the Gyongbu High Speed Line under construction.

  • In these days, Korea Railway apply simple catenary system to general lines and high speed lines of Korea Electric Railway. Circulation Current in catenary system frequently bring undesirable consequences. Namely, the Connector wire has many problems according to a flow of excessive circulation (or traction current) and a sudden rise of temperature on catenary when electric car or locomotive is running in high speed. The occurrence of events by the load increasement do considerable damages to peoples, organizations and systems. On a case by case accidents, the reeltype protective cover as part of various methods has some problems. In this project, we proposed the improved changes on the catenary system of a improvement and change of a messenger wire protector, improvement of connector wire's institution angle and of a replacement the connector wire with a dropper. Its tridimensional space limitation dictated the scale of the $32{\times}{\Phi}55$ to be as small as possible. It is easier to install than work by the existing cover on the messenger wire.

  • An important source of noise from railways is rolling noise caused by wheel and rail vibrations induced by acoustic roughness at the wheel-rail contact. In the present paper, characteristics of rail vibration and radiated sound power from concrete slab tracks for domestic high speed train(KTX) is investigated by means of a numerical method. The waveguide finite element and boundary element are combined and applied for this analysis. The concrete slab track is modelled simply with a rail and rail pad regarding the concrete slab as a rigid ground. The wave types which contribute significantly to the rail vibration and radiated noise are identified in terms of the mobility and decay rates. In addition, the effect of the rail pad stiffness on the radiated power is examined for two different rail pad stiffnesses.

  • Concrete tracks are superior to ballast tracks in the aspect of durability, maintenance and safety. However, deteriorated stiffness of railroad bed and settlement of soft ground induced by trapped or seepage water lead to problems in safety of train operation. In this research, characteristic stiffness of concrete tracks, which is determined from FRACTAL (Flexural-Rigidity Assessment of Concrete Tracks by Antisymmetric Lamb Waves) technique, was employed as an index of track displacement. The characteristic stiffness is defined using Poisson's ratio, moment of inertia and stiffness ratio of subgrade to slab. To verify validity and reliability of the proposed characteristic stiffness, experimental and theoretical researches were performed. Feasibility of the characteristic stiffness based on FRACTAL technique was proved at a real concrete track for Korean high-speed trains. Validity of the FRACTAL technique was also verified by comparing the results of impulse-response tests performed at the same measurement array and the results of SASW tests and DC resistivity survey performed at a shoulder nearby the track.

  • When constructing a high-speed railroad, the reduction of the distance between track centers and the width of track bed will save the construction cost. However the shortening the distance between track centers may cause the stability problems due to higher wind pressure. Therefore the extensive technical review and aerodynamical study should be performed to determine the adequate distance between track centers. In this study, the impact that the increase in wind pressure due to the change of aerodynamic phenomena with the change of the distance between track centers may have on two trains passing by each other was predicted, and the stability of train operation was analyzed in order to review the distance between track centers suitable to Honam HSR trains. And we estimated the aerodynamical effects by the results of the real train experiments.
