We have designed and fabricated a thermal scanning electron microscopy. It includes an electron source, two condenser lenses, one objective lens, a scanning coil and a stigmator coil for focusing in column and also have a secondary electron detector for constructing the image in chamber with a high vacuum condition and control part for operating the SEM. Especially, in order for us to find out the optical characteristics, our attention and studies have been concentrated on the effects of two condenser lenses and one objective lens for high resolution with SEM. Finally, we developed a high resolution thermal scanning electron microscopy.
In this research, we presented a data integration, which integrates ultra high resolution images and complementary data for 3D building reconstruction. In our method, as the ultra high resolution image, Three Line Sensor (TLS) images are used in combination with 2D digital maps, DSMs and both of them. Reconstructed 3D buildings, correctness rate and the accuracy of results were presented. As a result, optimized combination scheme of data sets , sensors and methods was proposed.

Accurate characterization of terrestrial precipitation variation from high spatial resolution satellite sensors is beneficial for urban hydrology and microscale agriculture modeling, as well as natural disasters (e.g., urban flooding) early warning. However, the widely-used top-down approach for precipitation retrieval from microwave satellites is limited in several hydrological and agricultural applications due to their coarse spatial resolution. In this research, we aim to apply a novel bottom-up method, the parameterized SM2RAIN, where precipitation can be estimated from soil moisture signals based on an inversion of water balance model, to generate high spatial resolution terrestrial precipitation estimates at 0.01º grid (roughly 1-km) from the C-band SAR Sentinel-1. This product was then tested against a common reanalysis-based precipitation data and a domestic rain gauge network from the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) over central South Korea, since a clear difference between climatic types (coasts and mainlands) and land covers (croplands and mixed forests) was reported in this area. The results showed that seasonal precipitation variability strongly affected the SM2RAIN performances, and the product derived from separated parameters (rainy and non-rainy seasons) outperformed that estimated considering the entire year. In addition, the product retrieved over the mainland mixed forest region showed slightly superior performance compared to that over the coastal cropland region, suggesting that the 6-day time resolution of S1 data is suitable for capturing the stable precipitation pattern in mainland mixed forests rather than the highly variable precipitation pattern in coastal croplands. Future studies suggest comparing this product to the traditional top-down products, as well as evaluating their integration for enhancing high spatial resolution precipitation over entire South Korea.

This study investigates the impact of enhanced regional meteorological fields on improvement of wind energy forecasting accuracy in the southwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula. To clarify the effect of detailed surface boundary data and application of analysis nudging technique on simulated meteorological fields, several WRF simulations were carried out. Case_LT, which is a simulation with high resolution terrain height and land use data, shows the most remarkable accuracy improvement along the shoreline mainly due to modified surface characteristics such as albedo, roughness length and thermal inertia. Case_RS with high resolution SST data shows accurate SST distributions compared to observation data, and they led to change in land and sea breeze circulation. Case_GN, grid nudging applied simulation, also shows changed temperature and wind fields. Especially, the application of grid nudging dominantly influences on the change of horizontal wind components in comparison with vertical wind component.

This paper presents the optimal design of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring for high resolution obstacle detection of an autonomous mobile robot. It is assumed that a set of low directivity ultrasonic sensors of the same type are arranged along a circle of nonzero radius at a regular spacing with their beams overlapped. First, taking into account the dead angle region, the entire range of obstacle detection is determined with reference to the center of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring. Second, the optimal design index of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring is defined as the area closeness of three sensing subzones resulting from beam overlap. Third, the lower and upper bounds on the number of ultrasonic sensors are derived, which can guarantee minimal beam overlap and also avoid excessive beam overlap among adjacent ultrasonic sensors. Fourth, employing a commercial low directivity ultrasonic sensor, an optimal design example of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring is given along with the ultrasonic sensor ring prototype mounted on top of a mobile robot. Finally, some experimental results using our prototype ultrasonic sensor ring are given to demonstrate the validity and performance of an optimally overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring for high resolution obstacle detection.

In this study, we evaluated the accuracy of deep learning-based tree species classification model trained by using high-resolution images. We selected five species classed, i.e., pine, birch, larch, korean pine, mongolian oak for classification. We created 5,000 datasets using high-resolution orthophoto and forest type map. CNN deep learning model is used to tree species classification. We divided training data, verification data, and test data by a 5:3:2 ratio of the datasets and used it for the learning and evaluation of the model. The overall accuracy of the model was 89%. The accuracy of each species were pine 95%, birch 89%, larch 80%, korean pine 86% and mongolian oak 98%.

In order to analyze the surface temperature in accordance with the surface material, surface temperatures between Thermal InfraRed Image (TIRI) and Landsat 8 satellite observed at the commercial area (Gwanghwamun) and residential area (Jungnang) are compared. The surface temperature from TIRI had applied atmospheric correction and compared with that from Landsat 8. The surface temperatures from Landsat 8 at Gwanghwamun and Jungnang are underestimated in comparison with that from TIRI. The difference of surface temperature between the two methods is greater in summer than in winter. When the analysis area was divided into detailed regions, depending on the material and the position of the surface, correlation of surface temperature between TIRI with Landsat 8 is as low as 0.29 (Gwanghwamun) and 0.18 (Jungnang), respectively. The results were caused from the resolution difference between the two methods. While the surface temperatures of each zone from Landsat 8 were observed almost constant, high-resolution TIRI observed relatively precise surface temperatures. When the each area was averaged as one space, correlation of surface temperature between TIRIs and Landsat 8 is more than 0.95. The spatially averaged surface temperature is higher at Jungnang, representing residential areas, than at Gwanghwamun, representing commercial areas. As a result, the observation of high resolution is required in order to observe the precise surface temperature. This is because it appears that the spatial distribution of the various surface temperature in the range of micro-scale according to the conditions of the ground surface.

Since the advent of high resolution satellite image, possibilities of applying various human interpretation mechanism to these images have increased. Also many studies about these possibilities in many fields such as computer vision, pattern recognition, artificial intellegence and remote sensing have been done. In this field of these studies, texture is defined as a kind of quantity related to spatial distribution of brightness and tone and also plays an important role for interpretation of images. Especially, methods of obtaining texture by statistical model have been studied intensively. Among these methods, texture measurement method based on cooccurrence matrix is highly estimated because it is easy to calculate texture features compared with other methods. In addition, these results in high classification accuracy when this is applied to satellite images and aerial photos. But in the existing studies using cooccurrence matrix, features have been chosen arbitrarily without considering feature variation. And not enough studies have been implemented for appropriate resolution selection in which cooccurrence matrix can extract texture. Therefore, this study reviews the concept of cooccurrence matrix as a texture measurement method, evaluates usefulness of several features obtained from cooccurrence matrix, and proposes appropriate resolution by investigating variance trend of several features.

Remote sensing cannot provide a direct measurement of vegetation index (VI) but it can provide a reasonably good estimate of vegetation index, defined as the ratio of satellite bands. The monitoring of vegetation in nearby urban regions is made difficult by the low spatial resolution and temporal resolution image captures. In this study, enhancing spatial resolution method is adapted as to improve a low spatial resolution. Recent studies have successfully estimated normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) using improved resolution method such as from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard EOS Terra satellite. Image enhancing spatial resolution is an important tool in remote sensing, as many Earth observation satellites provide both high-resolution and low-resolution multi-spectral images. Examples of enhancement of a MODIS multi-spectral image and a MODIS NDVI image of Cheongju using a Landsat TM high-resolution multi-spectral image are presented. The results are compared with that of the IHS technique is presented for enhancing spatial resolution of multi-spectral bands using a higher resolution data set. To provide a continuous monitoring capability for NDVI, in situ measurements of NDVI from paddy field was carried out in 2004 for comparison with remotely sensed MODIS data. We compare and discuss NDVI estimates from MODIS sensors and in-situ spectroradiometer data over Ochang plain region. These results indicate that the MODIS NDVI is underestimated by approximately 50%.
Physically-based fluid simulation takes a lot of time for high resolution. To solve this problem, there are studies that make up the limitation of low resolution fluid simulation by using deep running. Among them, Super-resolution, which converts low-resolution simulation data to high resolution is under way. However, traditional techniques require to the entire space where there are no density data, so there are problems that are inefficient in terms of the full simulation speed and that cannot be computed with the lack of GPU memory as input resolution increases. In this paper, we propose a new method that divides and classifies 2D smoke simulation data into the space using the quad tree, one of the spatial partitioning methods, and performs Super-resolution only required space. This technique accelerates the simulation speed by computing only necessary space. It also processes the divided input data, which can solve GPU memory problems.
