This paper reports an experimental study for evaluating the effect of temperature on the mode I, mode II and mixed-mode interlaminar fracture toughness of adhesive joints with a curved cross-section of filament-wound dome-separated composite pressure vessel. Mode I and mixed-mode interlaminar fracture toughness were evaluated using DCB specimens, while mode II interlaminar fracture toughness was determined using ENF specimens. $[{\pm}10^{\circ}]_6$, $[{\pm}27^{\circ}]_6$ and ($[{\pm}10^{\circ}]_3/FM73/[{\pm}27^{\circ}]_3$) winding specimens with the curved cross-section were considered. In-situ temperature environments were simulated with a range of $-30^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$ using an environmental chamber and furnace. Experimental results on the effect of temperature indicate that interlaminar fracture toughness tends to be high at low temperature and is degraded with increase in temperature. For specimen types, it was found that interlaminar fracture toughness of $[{\pm}10^{\circ}]_3/FM73/[{\pm}27^{\circ}]_3$ winding specimens considered as adhesive joints of dome and helical part was higher than other specimens.

Aircraft can often be exposed to a variety of environments and vibrations such as engine, hydraulic pump, aerodynamic force. These may cause cracking and destruction of the mechanical structure and sub-components by high-cycle fatigue. The axial piston type pump which is usually applied to the aircraft hydraulic pump can be necessarily accompanied by the fluid pulsation by continuous rotation of the axial piston. The fatigue crack was identified at the dampener fitting welding zone to prevent vibration damping during the running of aircraft equipped with this type of pulsation hydraulic pump. In order to understand the root cause of this matter, fracture and component analyses were carried out and also integral type dampener fitting was applied to prevent recurrence of the crack as a subject of design improvements. Structural integrity stress analysis, fatigue analysis, qualification test and aircraft system equipped test was conducted to verify the design validity in application to integral type dampener fitting. The test results were sufficiently satisfactory with the demand lifetime of the material from the various types of test as conducted and the subject of design improvement in this study could be objectively evaluated that shall be applied to the operational aircraft.

Launching tube is a kind of case to protect the guided weapons from external environments and conducted as a guide when they are fired. The guided weapons have been firmly kept at the launching tube and transferred, and would be separated at the required time when they are fired To meet the aim, it has been used explosive bolts which are reliable and efficient mechanical fastening devices having the special feature of a built-in release. The disadvantage of explosive bolt lies in that it is based on the high explosive effect of a pyrotechnic charge. When the explosive bolt is ignited, there are some bad effects; a flame, fragments and pyro-shock. Because of these bad effects there are many restriction to use bolt as joining devices to precision guided weapons. To solve these problems, the aim of the present work is to invent the ball-type separation bolt which is a pyrotechnically releasable mechanical linking device for two mechanical elements that does not suffer from such drawbacks. A standard pressure cartridge can moreover be easily integrated inside the device according to the present work and this with no modification to its structure. The present work was represented quantitatively the margin of separation safety and analysed separation mechanism in ball type separating bolt to perform the dynamic separation test.

The demand for the development of rolling stock technology to maintain the best performance in various climatic environments has increased to expand the overseas market of rolling stock. In this study, international and domestic standards that must be applied to build a harsh climatic environment test system were investigated and compared. The way of improvement for domestic standards is proposed. The wind velocities and temperatures are specified in the UIC, EN, and IEC standards for climatic wind tunnel, and EN 50125-1 provides the velocity test up to 180km/h, the largest wind speed. UIC and EN provide the lowest temperature of -45℃, and IEC 62498-1 provides the highest temperature 55℃. The solar radiation test was specified up to 1200W/m2 in the UIC, EN, and IEC. The IEC, EN, and KS R 9145 provide the water tightness standards, which are different from each other in water capacity, pressure, and methods. The snow test method was not well specified. KRTS-VE-Part 31 provides pressurization test methods. The airtightness standards for high-speed rolling stock are defined and regulated for internal pressure change rate in UIC 660 and 779-11. The domestic standard for the wind tunnel test was not well prepared, and the solar radiation test and snow test do not exist in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to improve domestic standards to an international level for the climatic wind tunnel test of rolling stock.

Background: The sunfleck is an important light environmental factor for plants that live under the shade of trees. Currently, the smartfarm has a system that can artificially create these sunfleks. Therefore, it was intended to find optimal light conditions by measuring and analyzing photosynthetic responses of Eutrema japonica (Miq.) Koidz., a plant living in shade with high economic value under artificial sunflecks. Results: For this purpose, we used LED pulsed light as the simulated sunflecks and set the light frequency levels of six chambers to 20 Hz, 60 Hz, 180 Hz, 540 Hz, 1620 Hz, and 4860 Hz of a pulsed LED grow system in a plant factory and the duty ratio of the all chambers was set to 30%, 50%, and 70% every 2 weeks. We measured the photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, and substomatal CO2 partial pressure of E. japonica under each light condition. We also calculated the results of measurement, A/Ci, and water use efficiency. According to our results, the photosynthetic rate was not different among different duty ratios, the transpiration rate was higher at the duty ratio of 70% than 30% and 50%, and stomatal conductance was higher at 50% and 70% than at 30%. In addition, the substomatal CO2 partial pressure was higher at the duty ratio of 50% than 30% and 70%, and A/Ci was higher at 30% than 50% and 70%. Water use efficiency was higher at 30% and 50% than at 70%. While the transpiration rate and stomatal conductance generally tended to become higher as the frequency level decreased, other physiological items did not change with different frequency levels. Conclusions: Our results showed that 30% and 50% duty ratios could be better in the cultivation of E. japonica due to suffering from water stress as well as light stress in environments with the 70% duty ratio by decreasing water use efficiency. These results suggest that E. japonica is adapted under the light environment with nature sunflecks around 30-50% duty ratio and low light frequency around 20 Hz.

Gas hydrates are ice-like compounds that form at the low temperature and high pressure conditions common in shallow marine sediments at water depths greater than 300-500 m when concentrations of methane and other hydrocarbon gases exceed saturation. Estimates of the total mass of methane carbon that resides in this reservoir vary widely. While there is general agreement that gas hydrate is a significant component of the global near-surface carbon budget, there is considerable controversy about whether it has the potential to be a major source of fossil fuel in the future and whether periods of global climate change in the past can be attributed to destabilization of this reservoir. Also essentially unknown is the interaction between gas hydrate and the subsurface biosphere. ODP Leg 204 was designed to address these questions by determining the distribution, amount and rate of formation of gas hydrate within an accretionary ridge and adjacent basin and the sources of gas for forming hydrate. Additional objectives included identification of geologic proxies for past gas hydrate occurrence and calibration of remote sensing techniques to quantify the in situ amount of gas hydrate that can be used to improve estimates where no boreholes exist. Leg 204 also provided an opportunity to test several new techniques for sampling, preserving and measuring gas hydrates. During ODP Leg 204, nine sites were drilled and cored on southern Hydrate Ridge, a topographic high in the accretionary complex of the Cascadia subduction zone, located approximately 80km west of Newport, Oregon. Previous studies of southern Hydrate Ridge had documented the presence of seafloor gas vents, outcrops of massive gas hydrate, and a pinnacle' of authigenic carbonate near the summit. Deep-towed sidescan data show an approximately $300\times500m$ area of relatively high acoustic backscatter that indicates the extent of seafloor venting. Elsewhere on southern Hydrate Ridge, the seafloor is covered with low reflectivity sediment, but the presence of a regional bottom-simulating seismic reflection (BSR) suggests that gas hydrate is widespread. The sites that were drilled and cored during ODP Leg 204 can be grouped into three end-member environments basedon the seismic data. Sites 1244 through 1247 characterize the flanks of southern Hydrate Ridge. Sites 1248-1250 characterize the summit in the region of active seafloor venting. Sites 1251 and 1252 characterize the slope basin east of Hydrate Ridge, which is a region of rapid sedimentation, in contrast to the erosional environment of Hydrate Ridge. Site 1252 was located on the flank of a secondary anticline and is the only site where no BSR is observed.

Currently, 90 % of the world's population breathes air with a fine dust content exceeding the World Health Organization's annual average exposure limit (10 ㎍/㎥). Global efforts have been devoted toward reducing secondary pollutants and ultra-fine dust through regulations on nitrogen oxides released over land and sea. Domestic efforts have also aimed at creating clean marine environments by reducing sulfur emissions, which are the primary cause of dust accumulation in ships, through developing and distributing environment-friendly ships. Among the technologies for reducing harmful emissions from diesel engines, electrostatic precipitator offer several advantages such as a low pressure loss, high dust collection efficiency, and NOx removal and maintenance. This study aims to increase the durability of a ship by improving equipment quality through failure mode effects analysis for the preventive maintenance of an electrostatic precipitator that was developed for reducing fine dust particles emitted from the 2,427 kW marine diesel engines in ships with a gross tonnage of 999 tons. With regard to risk priority, failure mode 241 (poor dust capture efficiency) was the highest, with an RPN of 180. It was necessary to determine the high-risk failure mode in the collecting electrode and manage it intensively. This was caused by clearance defects, owing to vibrations and consequent pin loosening. Given that pin loosening is mainly caused by vibrations generated in the hull or equipment, it is necessary to manage the position of pin loosening.

Pressure-balanced external Ag/AgCl electrode has been extensively used for both Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (PWR) environments. The use of KCI-based buffer solution often becomes the source of electrode potential drift due to slow leakage through its porous plug, typically made of zirconia. It is reported that results of our effort to improve the stability of electrode potential by using high purity water as the filling solution in which $Cl^-$ ion activity can be established and maintained at the solubility of AgCl even with the sustained leakage for a long period. Stability tests have been made in boron and lithium mixture solution at $288^{\circ}C$. The electrode potential remained stable within 10 mV over one week period. And after a thermal cycle between 288 to $240^{\circ}C$ the potential shift of Ag/AgCl electrodes did not exceed 15 mV By using the limiting equivalent ionic conductances and Agar's hydrodynamic theory, the thermal liquid junction potential (TLJP) of the electrode has been predicted. The calculated values for the water-fiued Ag/AgCl electrode potential, in which the chlorine concentration in the filling solution was derived from the measured data at ambient temperature, had a good agreement with the experimental values.

It is crucial to measure meteorological elements in relation to the biodeterioration of building cultural heritages. The Beopjusa and Seonamsa temples located respectively in Chungbuk and Jeonnam provinces, Korea, exhibit biological damage to the building cultural heritages and cause noticeable climatic differences. To compare biodeterioration environments of the abovementioned temples, 10 meteorological elements were observed, and particulate matter (TSP) was collected at each location. Furthermore, a correlation analysis was conducted between meteorological elements, and between meteorological elements and TSP. The local meteorology at Beopjusa temple characteristically showcased high total horizontal radiation, UV radiation, evaporation, wind speed, and TSP concentration, whereas, that at Seonamsa temple showcased high temperature, humidity, dew point temperature, air pressure, precipitation and number of days with precipitation. An elemental analysis of TSP revealed the presence of sae-salts at Seonamsa temple, and compared to that of Beopjusa temple, the monthly frequencies of biogenic aerosol and Fe-containing particles were higher. The correlation analysis showed that wind speed and humidity were major meteorological factors at Beopjusa and Seonamsa temples, respectively. Subsequently, the characteristics of the local meteorology at Seonamsa temple are expected to affect the biological damage of the building cultural heritages, which is favorable for the growth of various organisms.

This study was conducted to investigate the potential of chicken feather (CF), which is a by-product in poultry industry, as a partial substitute of wood fiber in the production of wood-based fiberboard. Keratin-type protein constituted the majority of CF, and its appearance did not differ from that of wood fiber. When the formaldehyde (HCHO) adsorptivities of CF compared by its pretreatment type, feather meal (FM), which was pretreated CF with high temperature and pressure and then grounded, showed the highest HCHO adsorptivity. In addition, there was no difference between the adsorbed HCHO amounts, which was measured by dinitrophenylhydrazine method, of scissors-chopped CF and CF beated with an electrical blender. Mechanical properties and HCHO emission of medium-density fiberboards (MDF), which were fabricated with wood fiber and 5 wt% CF, beated CF or FM based on the oven-dried weight of wood fiber, were not influenced by the pretreatment type of CF. However, when the values compared with those of MDF made with just wood fiber, thickness swelling and HCHO emission of the MDF were improved greatly with the addition of CF, beated CF or FM. Based on the results, it might be possible to produce MDF with improved dimensional stability and low HCHO emission if CF, beated CF or FM is added partially as a substitute of wood fiber in the manufacturing process of MDF produced with the conventional urea-formaldehyde resin of $E_1$ grade. However, the use of CF or FM in the production of MDF has a low economic feasibility at the current situation due to the securing difficulty and high cost of CF. In order to enhance the economic feasibility, it requires to use CF produced at small to medium-sized chicken meat plants. More importantly, it is considered that the technology developed from this research has a great potential to make provision for the prohibition of animal-based feed and to dispose environmentally avian influenza-infected poultry.
