전처리 방법에 따른 하수슬러지 가용화 비교연구 (Comparison of Sewage Sludge Solubilization through Different Pretreatment Methods)

  • The pretreatment process was carried out to solubilize the sewage sludge for enhancing its biodegradability using alkaline treatment, ultrasonic treatment(15kHz), ozone treatment and different combination of these three methods: alkaline followed by ultrasonic as well as ozone, and ultrasonic followed by alkaline. The solubilization efficiency was evaluated based on the SCOD/TCOD ratio and VSS/TS ratio. In results, the proper condition of alkaline treatment was shown as 30meq/l of NaOH, pH 12 and 3hours of reaction time. Solubilization efficiency increased to 17% from initial 2% based on SCOD/TCOD ratio under this condition. In ultrasonic treatment, the higher ultrasonic power, the longer treatment time and the lower sludge volume resulted in higher solubilization respectively. There was a rapid increase in solubilization efficiency after 20 minute, then it was measured as 32% of SCOD/TCOD ratio in 1 hour at a ultrasonic power of 1,300W with 1/sludge. Solubilization efficiencies in combined treatment using alkaline and ultrasonic were 47-53% higher than single treatment at a sonicated time of 1 hour. Ozone treatment followed by alkaline treatment also represented the enhanced solubilization compared to ozone treatment. Therefore, ultrasonic or ozone treatment assisted by alkaline could achieve the short treatment time as well as high solubilizetion efficiency.

정밀여과에 의한 하수고도처리수의 재이용을 위한 전처리법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Pretreatment Process for Sewage Reuse by Microfiltration Process)

  • It is evident that Korea will continue its battle with water shortage and alternative program are being taken into action. One of the main actions is reusing 1,800 tons of effluent of 357 sewage treatment plant located nationwide. Therefore this study supplemented ozone oxidation methods that would increase the efficiency of organic oxidation and coagulation. Through this method, fouling will be controled sufficiently by preventing membrane process in the system for advanced sewage treatment. In this study, ozone-coagulation-microfiltration membrane were used. The final removal efficiency of the pretreated water from the result of the ozone-coagulation were 50% of CODcr, 38% of TP and 11% of TOC respectively. Water quality treatment has decreased about 80% for TP. Ozone-coagulation-microfiltration membrane maintains the high flux while decreasing the number of organic matter and the membrane fouling, and reducing the TP. As a result, in order to reuse the water from the sewage, the ozone-coagulation-microfiltration membrane type must be considered in order to achieve the best efficiency.

서해 조석현상에 따른 국지기상 변화가 수도권 오존농도에 미치는 영향 (Impacts of Local Meteorology caused by Tidal Change in the West Sea on Ozone Distributions in the Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • In this study, the impacts of local meteorology caused by tidal changes in the West Sea on ozone distributions in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) were analyzed using a meteorological model (WRF) and an air quality (CMAQ) model. This study was carried out during the day (1200-1800 LST) between August 3 and 9, 2016. The total area of tidal flats along with the tidal changes was calculated to be approximately $912km^2$, based on data provided by the Environmental Geographic Information Service (EGIS) and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF). Modeling was carried out based on three experiments, and the land cover of the tidal flats for each experiment was designed using the coastal wetlands, water bodies (i.e., high tide), and the barren or sparsely vegetated areas (i.e., low tide). The land cover parameters of the coastal wetlands used in this study were improved in the herbaceous wetland of the WRF using updated albedo, roughness length, and soil heat capacity. The results showed that the land cover variation during high tide caused a decrease in temperature (maximum $4.5^{\circ}C$) and planetary boundary layer (PBL) height (maximum 1200 m), and an increase in humidity (maximum 25%) and wind speed (maximum $1.5ms^{-1}$). These meteorological changes increased the ozone concentration (about 5.0 ppb) in the coastal areas including the tidal flats. The increase in the ozone concentration during high tide may be caused by a weak diffusion to the upper layer due to a decrease in the PBL height. The changes in the meteorological variables and ozone concentration during low tide were lesser than those occurring during high tide. This study suggests that the meteorological variations caused by tidal changes have a meaningful effect on the ozone concentration in the SMA.

Ozone과 UV를 이용한 Cryptosporidium의 불활성화 효과 (Inactivation Effect of Cryptosporidium by Ozone and UV)

  • 본 연구에서는 오존 및 UV 소독을 통해 Cryptosporidium 불활성화 특성을 파악하고 소독의 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. ozone을 이용한 Cryptosporidium 불활성화 효과는 소독지표의 하나인 CT값$(mg{\cdot}min/L)$으로 평가할 수 있으며, 1 log(90%) 불활성화 CT값은 5.77 $mg{\cdot}min/L$이고 2 log(99%) 불화성화 CT값은 21.30 $mg{\cdot}min/L$인 것으로 나타났다. UV 소독을 통한 Cryptosporidium oocysts 불활성화 효과의 경우 pH(5, 7, 9)와 저탁도(5 NTU 이하) 그리고 UV 강도(0.2, 0.6 $mWs/cm^2$)에 따른 효과는 뚜렷하게 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 20 NTU 이상의 고탁도인 경우에는 불활성 효과가 뚜렷하게 감소하였다. 따라서 정수처리공정에서 UV 소독을 실시할 경우 탁도를 충분히 낮춰야만 만족할 만한 소독 능을 얻을 수 있으며 높은 UV 강도에서 충분한 시간 동안 UV가 조사된다면 더 높은 Cryptosporidium oocysts의 불활성화 효과를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

SBT 강유전체 충전층 저온 플라즈마 반응기의 전기적 특성, 오존생성 및 휘발성유기화합물의 분해 (Characteristics of Electrical Properties, Ozone Generation and Decomposition of Volatile Organic Compounds by Nonthermal Plasma Reactor Packed with SBT Ferroelectric)

  • Ferroelectric의 강유전체 소구들을 충전한 원통형의 비열 방전 플라즈마 반응기를 설계 제작하였으며, 강유전체 층방전 구조를 구성하는 평판(20 mm 간격) 금속망 전극 사이에 직경 2.0 mm인 $SrBiTaO_9$ (SBT) 소구들을 위치시키고 고압의 교류 전원을 인가하였다. SBT 소구는 상온($25^{\circ}C$)에서 150, 큐리온도($335^{\circ}C$)에서 500의 유전상수를 가졌다. 플라즈마 반응기에서 오존 생성속도는 거의 인가전압의 증가에 비례하였으며, SBT 소구들이 충전된 경우, 20 kV 이상의 인가전압에서 오존 생성속도는 급격하게 증가하였다. 부코로나 방전에서 오존 생성속도가 정코로나 방전에서의 경우보다 높았다. 그러나 톨루엔 및 메틸렌클로라이드의 분해율은 생성된 오존 농도에 비례하여 증가하지 않았다.

고전압 전극 두께와 집진판 간격에 따른 전기집진기의 미세먼지 집진효율 및 오존발생 특성 (Characteristics of particulate matter collection efficiency and ozone emission rate of an electrostatic precipitator by thickness of high-voltage electrode and distance of collection plates)

  • To optimize the shape of the electrostatic precipitator for the removal of particulate matter in subway environments, the wind-tunnel experiments were carried out to characterize collection efficiency and ozone emission rate. As a standardized parameter, power consumption divided by the square of flow velocity, was increased, the $PM_{10}$ collection efficiency increased. If the standardized parameter is higher than 1.0 due to high power consumption or low flow velocity, increase in thickness of electrodes from 1 to 2 mm, or increase in distance of collection plates from 5 to 10 cm did not change the $PM_{10}$ collection efficiency much. Increase in thickness of high-voltage electrodes, however, can cause decrease in $PM_{10}$ collection efficiency by 28% for low power consumption and high flow velocity. The ozone emission rate decreased as distance of collection plates became wider, because the ozone emission rate per unit channel was constant, and the number of collection channels decreased as the distance of collection plates increased. When the distance of collection plates was narrow, the ozone emission rate increased with the increase of the thickness of electrodes, but the difference was negligible when the distance of collection plates was wide. It was found that the electrostatic precipitator having a thin high-voltage electrodes and a narrow distance of collection plates is advantageous. However, to increase the thickness of high-voltage electrodes, or to increase the distance of collection plates is needed, it is necessary to increase the applied voltage or reduce the flow rate to compensate reduction of the collection efficiency.

Enhancement of Ozone and Carbon Monoxide Associated with Upper Cut-off Low during Springtime in East Asia

  • In order to verify the enhancement of ozone and carbon monoxide (CO) during springtime in East Asia, we investigated weather conditions and data from remote sensors, air quality models, and air quality monitors. These include the geopotential height archived from the final (FNL) meteorological field, the potential vorticity and the wind velocity simulated by the Meteorological Mesoscale Model 5 (MM5), the back trajectory estimated by the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model, the total column amount of ozone and the aerosol index retrieved from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS), the total column density of CO retrieved from the Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT), and the concentration of ozone and CO simulated by the Model for Ozone and Related Chemical Tracers (MOZART). In particular, the total column density of CO, which mightoriginate from the combustion of fossil fuels and the burning of biomass in China, increased in East Asia during spring 2000. In addition, the enhancement of total column amounts of ozone and CO appeared to be associated with both the upper cut-off low near 500 hPa and the frontogenesis of a surface cyclone during a weak Asian dust event. At the same time, high concentrations of ozone and CO on the Earth's surface were shown at the Seoul air quality monitoring site, located at the surface frontogenesis in Korea. It was clear that the ozone was invaded by the downward stretched vortex anomalies, which included the ozone-rich airflow, during movement and development of the cut-off low, and then there was the catalytic photochemical reaction of ozone precursors on the Earth's surface during the day. In addition, air pollutants such as CO and aerosol were tracked along both the cyclone vortex and the strong westerly as shown at the back trajectory in Seoul and Busan, respectively. Consequently, the maxima of ozone and CO between the two areas showed up differently because of the time lag between those gases, including their catalytic photochemical reactions together with the invasion from the upper troposphere, as well as the path of their transport from China during the weak Asian dust event.

CMAQ 모델의 화학메커니즘(SAPRC99, CB05) 적용에 따른 수도권 오존농도 모의결과 비교 (Comparison of CMAQ Ozone Simulations with Two Chemical Mechanisms (SAPRC99 and CB05) in the Seoul Metropolitan Region)

  • A comparison of ozone simulations in the seoul metropolitan region (SMR) using the community multiscale air quality (CMAQ) model with SAPRC99 and CB05 chemical mechanisms (i.e. EXP-SP99 and EXP-CB05) has been conducted during four seasons of 2012. The model results showed that the differences in average ozone concentrations between the EXP-SP99 and EXP-CB05 were found to be large in summer, but very small in the other seasons. This can be attributed that the SAPRC99 tends to produce more ozone than the CB05 in urban area like the SMR with low VOC/NOx ratio under high ozone conditions. Through quantitative comparison between two mechanisms for the summer, it was found that the average ozone concentrations from the EXP-SP99 were about 3 ppb higher than those from the EXP-CB05 and agreed well with the observations. Horizontal differences in ozone concentrations between SAPRC99 and CB05 showed that significant differences were found in southern part of the SMR and over the sea near the coast in summer.

오존노출 후 백서 기도점막의 형태학적 변화 (Morphologic Changes of Airway Mucosa after Ozone Exposure in Rats)

  • Objectives : This study was designed to compare the morphological changes in the nasal, tracheal and main bronchial mucosa in rats exposed to 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 ppm ozone for 7 days, 6 hours per day. Materials and Methods : We observed the nasal, tracheal and main bronchial mucosa in rats exposed to 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 ppm ozone for 7days, 6hours per day with LM, SEM and TEM. Results : In light microscopy, influx of inflammatory cells, epithelial hyperplasia, loss of cilia and increased goblet cells were observed in all rats except those exposed to 0.3 ppm. these findings increased with the increase of ozone concentration, but there were no significant differences among the nasal, tracheal and main bronchial mucosa in rats exposed to the same ozone concentration. In scanning electron microscopy, a loss of cilia was observed in rats exposed to 0.3 ppm in some sections and 0.6 ppm and 1.2 ppm in all sections. In transmission electron microscopy, vacuolization of epithelial cells was observed in rats exposed to 0.3 ppm in some sections and 0.6 ppm in all sections. These results suggest that electron microscopic observation is necessary to study morphology of airway mucosa in rats exposed to ozone below 0.3 ppm. And also the morphological changes in nasal septal epithelium may reflect those of tracheal and bronchial epithelium after high concentration ozone-exposure.

한국의 시골지역에서의 오존농도의 특성 (Characteristics of Ozone Concentration in the Rural Area of Korea)

  • 1993년 7월부터 1994년 6월까지 1년간 시골지역에서 지면 부근의 오존을 연속적으로 측정하여 5분 평균치를 연구에 이용하였다. 이 관측은 북위 $37.4{\circ}$, 동경 $127.6{\circ}$ 에 위치한 충북 청원군 강내에서 실시되었으며, 1년 평균값은 17ppbㅠ이고 월평균은6-47ppb이다. 여름에 최대값이 발생하고 겨울에 최소값이 나타나며, 이들은 인위적인 배출물 및 광화학 반응과 관련이 있따. 오존으 일변화는 15:00~16:00시에 최대치와 07:00~08:00시에 최소치가 발생한다. 오존이 80ppb이상 발생하는 기간에는 북-북서풍의 안정한 기류가 유입할때 발생하는 반면, 여름에 오존이 매우 낮게 발생하는 기간에는 북태평양에서 유입되는 기류와 함꼐 발생하였다. 그러므로 장거리에 근원을 둔 인위적인 대기오염의 이동(LRTAP)이 시골지역의 국지적인 오존의 발생보다 더 큰 기여를 하고 있음을 시사한다.
