최적 고도정수처리공정 선정을 위한 경제성 평가 (Cost Evaluation for the Decision of Advanced Treatment Processes)

  • Since 1989, Advanced drinking water treatment processes began to build in Korea, especially the water treatment plants around the Nak-dong river stream due to sequential pollutant accidents. Moreover, Advanced drinking water treatment processes, ozone and GAC, are again to be built in water treatment plants around Han-river stream to control taste and odor, micro pollutants. However, there are still a lot of discussion to decide the processes to apply for advanced treatment. Thus there are still need to understand clearly on the cost evaluation of each advanced treatment processes. The cost evaluation was accomplished based on the data of six water treatment plants which are currently being either operating or constructing. Exceptionally, PAC(Powdered Activated Carbon) process was evaluated with cost estimation from construction company. The capital cost per unit volume of ozone process was significantly decreased as the treatment capacity increased. The capital cost was in the order of GAC, ozone and GAC. The operation cost decreased in the order of PAC, GAC and ozone. The total cost considering present value shows that ozone process covers 84% of ozone and GAC process for $30,000m^3/d$ capacity while it covers less than 35% for over 140 thousands $m^3/d$ capacity. Comparing GAC only, and ozone/GAC process, ozone/GAC process is more cost effective for high capacity water treatment plant.

불포화 토양내에서 가스상 오존 이동특성에 대한 LNAPL과 토양수분의 영향 (Influence of LNAPL and Soil Water on Migration of Gaseous Ozone in Unsaturated Soils)

  • 불포화 토양내에서 가스상 오존의 이동특성에 대한 토양수분과 Light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL)의 영향을 알아보기 토양칼럼실험을 실시하였다 토양수분은 토양입자에 수막을 형성하여 가스상 오존과 토양입자의 직접적인 접촉을 방해하여 오존의 이동을 증가시키는 역할을 하였다. 토양수분이 증가할수록 불포화 토양내의 기-액 접촉면적 감소와 오존의 평균선형유속증가로 인해 오존의 이동속도가 증가하였다. LNAPL로 사용된 디젤유의 경우도 토양 표면에 막(Film)을 형성하여 가스상 오존의 이동을 증가시키는 역할을 하였다. 하지만, 토양 수분과는 반대로 디젤유 농도가 증가할수록 오존의 이동속도는 감소하였다. 토양수분과 LNAPL성분이 동시에 존재할 경우에는 토양입자에 Non-wetting유체로 작용하는 LNAPL에 의해 오존의 이동이 영향을 받는다는 것을 알 수 있었다

조선소 용접작업 중 오존 및 TVOCs의 노출평가와 사용 호흡보호구의 적합성 (Exposure to Ozone and TVOCs during Shipyard Welding and the Adequacy of RPE)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the exposure to ozone and total volatile organic compounds(TVOCs) generated during welding work at a shipyard and recommend respiratory protective equipment(RPE) adequate against these hazards. Method: Ozone was collected for about 30 minutes at two-minutes intervals using a direct reading instrument, specifically an ozone analyzer(Serinus 10, Ecotech, Australia). TVOCs were collected for about 30 minutes at three-minute intervals using a portable GC (Alpha 115, Synspec BV, the Netherlands), and were determined simultaneously by area sampling at the welding plume closest to the welder's breathing zone. The total measurements were 162 for ozone($CO_2$ welding 47, TIG 60, stick 55), and 136 for TVOCs($CO_2$ 65, TIG 50, stick 21). Based on these measurements, a literature survey was conducted to assess the adequacy of RPE. Results: Relative to Korean OEL, measurements above STEL 0.2 ppm were 23.4% for $CO_2$, 63.3% for TIG and 14.5% for stick welding. There were significant differences(p=<0.0001) among welding types. Compared with ACGIH peak exposure of 0.4 ppm for ozone, which is not applied in Korea, $CO_2$ welding exceeded it by 10.6%, TIG by 40.0% and stick by 7.3%. Although it was not feasible to compare them directly since there are no Korean OEL, TVOCs had very high levels similar to the concentrations before moving into a new apartment and about 10-20 times the indoor air quality recommendations for some individual measurements. Conclusions: As ozone removal RPE has been recommended in welding environments for a long time(Lunau, 1967), this fact was demonstrated based on the results of the on-site work environment measurements(ozone and TVOCs). In conclusion, for all welding at a shipyard, gas/vapor and particulate combination RPE are recommended. If this is not possible, it should at least be present for TIG welding.

Inactivation of Vibrio parahaemolyticus by Aqueous Ozone

  • Vibrio parahaemolyticus contamination causes serious foodborne illness and has become a global health problem. As a disinfectant, aqueous ozone can effectively kill a number of bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other microorganisms. In this study, three factors, namely, the aqueous ozone concentration, the exposure time, and the bacterial density, were analyzed by response surface methodology, and the aqueous ozone concentration was the most influential factor in the sterilization ratio. Under low aqueous ozone concentrations (less than 0.125 mg/l), the bacterial cell membranes remained intact, and the ozone was detoxified by intracellular antioxidant enzymes (e.g., superoxide dismutase and catalase). Under high aqueous ozone concentrations (more than 1 mg/l), cell membranes were damaged by the degree of peripheral electronegativity at the cell surface and the concentration of lactate dehydrogenase released into the extracellular space, and the ultrastructures of the cells were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Aqueous ozone penetrated the cells through leaking membranes, inactivated the enzymes, inhibited almost all the genes, and degraded the genetic materials of gDNA and total RNA, which eventually led to cell death.

전극과 유전체장벽간의 접착물질의 물성변화가 오존발생특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Properties of Binder between Electrode and Dielectric Barrier on Ozone Generation Characteristics)

  • 무성방전형 오존발생장치에서 고농도의 오존을 발생시키기 위해서는 방전공간의 온도를 낮게 유지시켜주는 것이 중요하다. 이때, 방전공간에서 발생된 열을 외부로 전달하기 위한 유전체장벽과 전극간의 접착물질과 접착방법은 전기적, 열적 관점에서 볼 때 방전에 큰 영향을 미치게 된다. 따라서 접착물질과 접착방법은 오존발생에 중요한 변수가 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 접착물질과 방법이 오존발생에 미치는 영향을 조사한 실험적인 결과이다. 접착물질의 종류로는 방열재료로 사용되는 실리콘 화합물질, 전기적인 도전성을 가지는 수지를 사용하였으며 이들의 물성변화를 위해 첨가물질로 차콜(charcoal)을 사용하였다. 결과적으로 접착물질(실리콘 화합물)이 사용되었을 때가 사용하지 않았을 때보다 같은 전압에서 많은 오존발생량을 보여주었다. 또한 접착물질이 사용되었을 때는 순수한 실리콘 화합물이 사용된 경우가 도전성을 가지는 접착물질이 사용되었을 때보다 많은 오존발생량을 보여주었다.

벼 오존가스 노출에 따른 초기 생육 및 안토시아닌 생합성 변화 분석 연구 (Study of Growth and Anthocyanin Accumulation by Ozone Stress in Rice)

  • 최근 지표 오존의 증가로 농작물 피해 우려가 확대되고 있다. 본 시험에서는 오존처리 후 안토시아닌 생합성이 증가하는 품종은 오존 저항성이 높을 것이라 예상했으나 오히려 잎의 갈색반점 피해율이 증대된 것으로 나타났다. 오존에 따른 잎에서의 피해율이 벼의 수량 감소와 무조건적으로 상관성을 보이는 것은 아니기 때문에(Sawada & Kohno, 2009), 안토시아닌 등과 같은 스트레스 반응 물질과 잎에서의 피해 정도, 생육반응 등의 상관성을 확인하는 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. 오존으로 인한 잎의 피해는 나타나기까지 수일이 걸리지만 안토시아닌의 경우 처리 후 1일이면 확인할 수 있어 조기 검정 방법으로 개발이 가능할 것으로 보인다. 또한 오존에 의하여 특이적으로 발현이 상승한 OsF3H 유전자는 오존 저항성 마커로 활용이 가능할 것으로 생각된다.

오존수 세척이 포장 참외의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Ozone-Water Washing on the Quality of Melon)

  • 저장 중 포장 참외의 품질 유지를 위하여 포장과 세척방법을 달리하면서 참외에 대한 품질 평가를 실시한 결과, 저장기간의 경과에 따라 중량 및 경도는 감소하였으며 저장 12일 후부터는 오존수를 이용하여 세척한 처리구를 제외한 모든 구에서 심한 부패 및 손상이 발견되었다. 또한 관능평가 결과, 오존수 세척구에서 색, 외관, 맛, 조직감 모두 가장 높은 점수를 얻었으며 저장 후기에도 반점이 거의 생성되지 않고 부패정도가 가장 미비하여 외관에 대한 우수한 관능적 평가를 얻었다. 따라서 오존수 세척 후 통기성 있도록 박스포장을 하는 것이 참외의 유통 중 품질 유지에 효과적이라고 사료된다.

  • Newly bleaching sequence using oxygen, ozone and hydrogen peroxide has introduced to avoid pollution hazards from chlorinated organic compounds, because chlorine dioxide substitution bleaching was produced a little chlorinated organic substance. Oxygen-type chemicals replaced for chlorine has attracted much research attention. Bleachability of ozone was improved at low temperature and high pulp consistency. In third bleaching followed OZ bleaching, addition of O2 and NaBH4 in alkali extraction was effective than only alkali extraction. Bleachability of pulps in ozone bleaching(Z) was improved at higher consistency and lower temperature The addition O2 and NaBH4 in alkali extraction after OZ bleaching sequence improved brightness, when compared to those obtained by only alkaline extraction. Pulps bleached by ECF bleaching sequences such as OZEoD and OZEopD was obtained by 90% ISO brightness. The brightness of pulp bleached by TCF sequences with the ozone dosage of 1.6% was approached to target brightness (88~90%ISO). Pulps bleached Z stage combined bleaching sequence was reduced the viscosity to a little greater extent. However, physical properties of pulps was not great different compared to those bleached by conventional bleaching sequences. A pollution index of bleaching effluente by ozone combined bleaching sequences was lower than by conventional bleaching sequence, but somewhat higher than multistage bleaching sequences combined C/D stage.

  • With the degradation of water quality and, at the same time increased water usage, the sources of high quality, for examples, river/stream, municipal reservoir, wells, artisan and surface water, are diminishing. Therefore, the importance of water quality has been emphasized over the years through publications and various literature sources. Even though considerable research has resulted in significant strides for providing interpretive information and mitigation strategies for improvement of waters, the quality of which is still questionable. This study aims to propose a completely independent self-contained system for purifying waters, solar-powered ozone generator. It is a semi-permanent and cost effective environmental solution. Functions of ozone treatment are: 1) to maintain oxidative flexibility, 2) remove harmful chemicals, wastes, and other substances, and 3) prevent epizootic microbial outbreaks. Recent advances in technology have allowed the development of the practical, self-contained and independent solar powered device. Solar electrical producing panels that charge batteries are the key to using these systems anywhere electrical power is not available. This paper invites the readers to examine the problem and consider the viable, proven solution the solar powered ozone purifying system. This paper also introduces basic concept and background of solar powered ozone generators and examine its feasibility for improving water quality in rivers and streams.

Ozone($O_{3}$)을 이용한 선직물의 표백과 양색성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Bleaching and Dyeing Properties of Cotton Fabrics Treated with Ozone($O_{3}$))

  • In order to reduce the amount of waste water generated from textile dyeing process and processing water, cotton fabric was bleached with ozone in ozone/water contact system, and dyed. The results obtained from the measurement of whiteness, reflectance, tensile strength, color difference, and K/S value of treated samples were as follow : 1) In ozone bleaching, factors affect whiteness most are treatment time and ozone dosage. As treatment time is lengthened, whiteness increases. Futhermore, bleaching effect is high in acidic treatment, but low in alkaline treatment. 2) As bleaching goes on, maximum absorption wave length shifts to shoter wavelengths. 3) As treatment time is lengthened or pH of treatment is low, tensile strenth of treated fabric decrease. 4) In all cases, color difference of dyed cotton fabrics in above 2% o.w.f. dyestuff concentration don't go beyond 1∼2 AN unit, compared with standard.
