인도네시아산 주요 조림 및 유망 수종의 물리적 및 역학적 특성(I) (Physical and Mechanical Properties of Major Plantation and Promising Tree Species Grown in Indonesia (I))

  • 인도네시아산 주요 조림수종(Albizia, Gmelina, Mangium)과 유망수종(Durian, Gandaria, Jengkol, Kupa, Mangga, Nangka, Rambutan)의 밀도, 수축률, 종압축강도와 경도 등 물리적 및 역학적 특성을 조사하였다. 그 결과, Mangium, Gandaria와 Rambutan은 높은 밀도를, Albizia, Durian과 Jengkol은 낮은 밀도를 보였다. 공시재료 중 Mangium, Gandaria와 Mangga의 수축률은 다른 수종에 비해 작았으며, Albizia, Jengkol과 Rambutan의 수축률은 다른 수종에 비해 높았다. 이방도(T/R)는 Albizia, Kupa와 Mangga가 낮았고, Gmelina, Durian과 Jengkol이 다른 수종에 비해 높았다. Mangium과 Nangka는 종압축강도와 경도가 높았으며, Durian, Jengkol과 Mangga는 낮은 종압축강도를, Albizia와 Gmelina는 낮은 경도를 보였다. 10수종 중 Albizia, Durian, Jenkol, Mangga의 4수종을 제외한 6수종의 물리적 및 역학적 성질은 비교적 우수한 것으로 판단되었다. 본 실험의 결과는 인도네시아산 조림목의 효율적인 이용 및 장래 조림을 위한 유용한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라 생각된다.

전남 남부 반폐쇄적인 내만 갯벌 퇴적물의 지화학적 특성 (Geochemical Characteristics of Intertidal Sediment in the Semi-enclosed Bays of the Southern Region of Jeollanam Province)

  • To understand the geochemical characteristics of intertidal sediment in a semi-enclosed bay, we measured various geochemical parameters, including grain size, ignition loss (IL), chemical oxygen demand (COD), acid volatile sulfide (AVS), and trace metals (Al, Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg, and As), in intertidal sediment from three bays (Deukryang Bay, Yeoja Bay, and Gamak Bay) in the southern region of Jeollanam Province. The intertidal sediment in Deukryang Bay consisted of various sedimentary types, such as sand, gravelly muddy sand, mud, and silt, whereas the intertidal sediments in Yeoja and Gamak Bays were composed mainly of mud. The concentrations of IL, COD, AVS and trace metals in the intertidal sediments of the three study regions were relatively high near areas affected by input of stream waters and/or shellfish farming waste. The concentrations of organic matter and trace metals in Gamak Bay were much higher than those in Deukryang and Yeoja Bays, which appears to be due to the influence of anthropogenic pollutants, originating from the city and the industrial complex near Gamak Bay. The evaluation results of organic matter and metal pollution using the sediment quality guidelines showed that the intertidal sediments in the three study regions were not polluted in terms of organic matter and trace metals. In future, sustainable management for sources of organic matter and trace metal is necessary to conserve a healthy benthic ecosystem in intertidal sediments.

배합사료 원료에 대한 방사선 살균 효과 ; 탄수화물의 살균 (Effects of Gamma Irradiation on the Decontamination of Animal Feeds: Sterilization of Carbohydrate Sources)

  • 배합 사료의 전분질원으로 사용되는 13종의 곡류 및 곡류 부산물의 미생물 오염 정도와 방사선 조사에 의한 살균효과 및 이화학적 특성변화를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 13종의 사료 원료의 호기성 전세균의 오염은 $10^2-10^6/\;g$ 범위였으며 5-7 kGy의 방사선 조사로 거의 살균되었고, 대장균 균은 $10^2-10^5/\;g$로 높게 오염되었으며 이들은 3-5 kGy 조사로서 완전 사멸되었다. 총 곰팡이의 오염은 $10^2-10^4/\;g$ 정도로서 오염 곰팡이의 대부분이 내삼투압성 곰팡이었으며 5-7 kGy 조사로서 검출 한계 이하로 사멸되었다. 또한 이들에서 분리된 곰팡이는 Aspergillus속과 Penicillium속이었으며, 분리된 10여종의 곰팡이중 Aspergillus flavus group을 포함한 7여종의 잠재적 독소를 생성하는 균이었다. 총 아미노산과 전당 함량, 색도, TBA 등이 이화학적 특성변화에서는 고선량 방사선 조사와 훈증처리는 다같이 대조구에 비해 다소의 영향을 미쳤으나 훈증처리구는 더욱 현저하였다.

용강 및 슬래그에 의한 지르코니아/흑연계 침지노즐의 침식기구 (Corrosion mechanism of zirconia/graphite SEN by molten steel and slag)

  • 침지노즐(SEN)의 재료로 사용되는 지르코니아/흑연 재질에서 용강 및 슬래그에 의한 침식의 형태를 살펴본 결과, 침식의 첫번째 기구는 부분안정화 지르코니아 내 안정화제인 CaO가 용강 및 슬래그에 의해 용해되면서 입방정 안정화 지르코니아가 단사정상으로 상전이하여 일어났는데, 상전이 시 부피팽창에 의한 균열이 발생하고 파괴가 진행되었고, 이로 인하여 미세 $ZrO_2$입자의 용해 및 탈락이 촉진되었다. 침식의 두 번째 기구는 슬래그가 큰 c-$ZrO_2$입자의 입계를 따라 침투하여 작은 입자들로 분리시키고, 작은 입자들이 용강과 슬래그에 탈락되어 진행되었다. 마지막 기구로는 입방정 지르코니아와 흑연이 반응하여 다공질의 미세한 ZrC 상을 형성하고, 이들이 slag에 용해되면서 침식이 진행되었다.

Bio-fermentation Technology to Improve Efficiency of Swine Nutrition

  • The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity defines biotechnology as "Any technological application that uses biological systems, dead organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use" Biotechnology has made tremendous contributions to improve production efficiency of agriculture during the last century. This article reviews successful examples of application of bio-fermentation in improving swine nutrition efficiency mainly based on the authors'z own research experience. Production of feed grade supplemental amino acids by bio-fermentation allowed nutritionists to formulate accurate feed for optimal lean growth and reduced nitrogen excretion. Recent issues with high feed grain prices caused potential feed quality problems. Bio-fermentation allowed nutritionists to use exogenous supplemental enzymes such as phytase and NSPases in swine diets, thereby improving nutrient utilization and reducing nutrient excretion to the environment. Yeast metabolites are also produced by bio-fermentation and have been repeatedly shown to improve milk production of sows during early lactation even though actual mechanisms are still to be investigated. Bio-fermentation technology also allowed nutritionists to prepare vegetable protein sources with large protein molecules and anti-nutritional factors suitable for feeding newly weaned piglets, as selected microorganisms significantly reduce specific anti-nutritional factors and size of peptides. Preparations of vegetable protein sources suitable for newly weaned pigs will greatly contribute to swine nutrition by providing efficient alternatives to the use of animal protein sources that are often expensive and somewhat against societal preference. Considering the few examples listed above, biotechnology has closely influenced improvement of production efficiency in the swine industry. As we have limited resources to produce meat to satisfy ever-increasing global demands, extensive adaptation of biotechnology to enhance production efficiency should be continued. However, at the same time, wise and careful application of bio-technology should be considered to ensure production of safe food and to meet the expectations of our society.

Low-temperature Epitaxial Growth of a Uniform Polycrystalline Si Film with Large Grains on SiO2 Substrate by Al-assisted Crystal Growth

  • Epitaxial growth of a high-quality thin Si film is essential for the application to low-cost thin-film Si solar cells. A polycrystalline Si film was grown on a $SiO_2$ substrate at $450^{\circ}C$ by a Al-assisted crystal growth process. For the purpose, a thin Al layer was deposited on the $SiO_2$ substrate for Al-assisted crystal growth. However, the epitaxial growth of Si film resulted in a rough surface with humps. Then, we introduced a thin amorphous Si seed layer on the Al film to minimize the initial roughness of Si film. With the help of the Si seed layer, the surface of the epitaxial Si film was smooth and the crystallinity of the Si film was much improved. The grain size of the $1.5-{\mu}m$-thick Si film was as large as 1 mm. The Al content in the Si film was 3.7% and the hole concentration was estimated to be $3{\times}10^{17}/cm^3$, which was one order of magnitude higher than desirable value for Si base layer. The results suggest that Al-doped Si layer could be use as a seed layer for additional epitaxial growth of intrinsic or boron-doped Si layer because the Al-doped Si layer has large grains.

태안 마도1·2호선 해양 유물로 본 고려시대의 음식 문화 (Food Culture of Koryo Dynasty from the Viewpoint of Marine relics of Taean Mado shipwrecks No. 1 and No. 2)

  • This study examined the food culture of the Koryo Dynasty during the early 13th century based on the records of wooden tablets and marine relics from the 1st and 2nd ships of Mado wrecked at sea off Taean while sailing for Gaegyeong containing various types of grain paid as taxes and tributes. The recipients of the cargo on the 1st ship of Mado were bureaucrats living in Gaegyeong during the period of the military regime of the Koryo Dynasty, and the place of embarkation was the inlet around Haenam (Juksan Prefecture) and Naju (Hoijin Prefecture) in Jolla-do. On wooden tablets were recorded 37 items of rice, cereal, and fermented foods. The measures used in the records were seok [石-20 du (斗)] for cereal, seok [15 du, 20 du] for fermented soybean paste, and pot (缸) and volume (斗) for salted fish. The places of embarkation on the 2nd ship of Mado were Jeongeup (Gobu Prefecture), Gochang (Jangsa Prefecture, Musong Prefecture), etc. On wooden tablets were recorded 29 items of rice, cereal, fermented foods, seasame oil, and honey. The volume measure for yeast guk (麴), the fermentative organism for rice wine, was nang [囊-geun (斤)], and the measure for sesame oil and honey, which were materials of oil-and-honey pastries and confections, was joon (樽-seong, 盛). Honey and sesame oil were luxury foods for the upper-class people of the Koryo Dynasty, and they were carried in high-quality inlaid celadon vases in Meibyung style. Food names and measures written on wooden tablets and actual artifacts found in the 1st and 2nd ships of Mado are valuable materials for research into agriculture, cereal, and fermented foods of the Koryo Dynasty in the early 13th century. Besides, relics such as grains and bones of fish and animals from the Koryo Dynasty are expected to provide crucial information usable in studies on food history of the Korean Peninsula.

기판온도에 따른 PbTe 박막의 구조 및 전기적 물성 (Structure and Electrical Properties of PbTe Thin Film According To The Substrate Temperature)

  • Pulsed laser deposition법에 의하여 양질의 PbTe 박막을 다양한 기판온도에 따라 성장시켰다. XRD패턴으로 부터 각 온도에서의 PbTe층들은 결정화가 되어있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 PbTe 박막의 XRD 피크들은 (h00)의 방향성을 나타내고 있다. Pb의 재증발로 인하여 $400^{\circ}C$이상에서는 PbTe 박막은 결정성의 박막으로 형성되지 않았다. AFM 이미지로부터 박막의 표면은 작은 granular 결정들과 평탄한 매트릭스로 구성되어 있음이 관찰되었다. 기판온도의 증가에 따라 표면의 입자들이 커지는 것을 알 수 있었다. Hall-effect 측정으로부터 $300^{\circ}C$에서 성장한 PbTe 박막의 전기적 특성은 $3.68{\times}10^{18}cm^{-3}$의 캐리어 농도와 $148\;cm^2/Vs$의 Hall 이동도를 나타내었다.

아르곤 가스의 주입이 붕소 도핑 다이아몬드 전극의 특성에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Argon Addition on Properties of the Boron-Doped Diamond Electrode)

  • A boron-doped diamond(BDD) electrode is attractive for many electrochemical applications due to its distinctive properties: an extremely wide potential window in aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes, a very low and stable background current and a high resistance to surface fouling. An Ar gas mixture of $H_2$, $CH_4$ and trimethylboron (TMB, 0.1 % $C_3H_9B$ in $H_2$) is used in a hot filament chemical vapor deposition(HFCVD) reactor. The effect of argon addition on quality, structure and electrochemical property is investigated by scanning electron microscope(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and cyclic voltammetry(CV). In this study, BDD electrodes are manufactured using different $Ar/CH_4$ ratios ($Ar/CH_4$ = 0, 1, 2 and 4). The results of this study show that the diamond grain size decreases with increasing $Ar/CH_4$ ratios. On the other hand, the samples with an $Ar/CH_4$ ratio above 5 fail to produce a BDD electrode. In addition, the BDD electrodes manufactured by introducing different $Ar/CH_4$ ratios result in the most inclined to (111) preferential growth when the $Ar/CH_4$ ratio is 2. It is also noted that the electrochemical properties of the BDD electrode improve with the process of adding argon.

다결정 실리콘 웨이퍼 직접제조에 대한 공정변수 영향 (Effect of Processing Parameters on Direct Fabrication of Polycrystalline Silicon Wafer)

  • A ribbon-type polycrystalline silicon wafer was directly fabricated from liquid silicon via a novel technique for both a fast growth rate and large grain size by exploiting gas pressure. Effects of processing parameters such as moving speed of a dummy bar and the length of the solidification zone on continuous casting of the silicon wafer were investigated. Silicon melt extruded from the growth region in the case of a solidification zone with a length of 1cm due to incomplete solidification. In case of a solidification zone wieh a length of 2 cm, on the other hand, continuous casting of the wafer was impossible due to the volume expansion of silicon derived from the liquid-solid transformation in solidification zone. Consequently, the optimal length of the solidification zone was 1.5 cm for maintaining the position of the solid-liquid interface in the solidification zone. The silicon wafer could be continuously casted when the moving speed of the dummy bar was 6 cm/min, but liquid silicon extruded from the growth region without solidification when the moving speed of the dummy bar was ${\geq}$ 9 cm/min. This was due to a shift of the position of the solid-liquid interface from the solidification zone to the moving area. The present study reports experimental findings on a new direct growth system for obtaining silicon wafers with both high quality and productivity, as a candidate for an alternate route for the fabrication of ribbon-type silicon wafers.
