In this paper, we design and construct the equipment to manufacture large-diameter optical fiber end caps, which are the core parts of high-power fiber lasers, and we fabricate large-diameter optical fiber end caps using the home-made equipment. This equipment consists of a CO2 laser as a fusion-splice heat source, a precision stage assembly for transferring the position of a large-diameter optical fiber and an end cap, and a vision system used for alignment when the fusion splice is interlocked with the stage assembly. The output of the laser source is interlocked with the stage assembly to control the output, and the equipment is manufactured to align the polarization axis of the large-diameter polarization-maintaining optical fiber with the vision system. Optical fiber end caps were manufactured by laser fusion splicing of a large-diameter polarization-maintaining optical fiber with a clad diameter of 400 ㎛ and an end cap of 10×5×2 ㎣ (W×D×H) using home-made equipment. Signal-light insertion loss, polarization extinction ratio, and beam quality M2 of the fabricated large-diameter optical fiber end caps were measured to be 0.6%, 16.7 dB, and 1.21, respectively.

In this paper, we designed, fabricated and tested an UHF band cylindrical dipole array antenna. In the proposed antenna, cylindrical dipoles were vertically arranged in four stages. A parallel structure feeding circuit was installed inside the cylindrical dipole and mounted so as to be broadband matching. The feeding circuit was installed at the center of the cylindrical dipole to optimize the gain flatness characteristic of the azimuth direction omnidirectional radiation pattern. Minimizing the difference between the signals branched from the feeding circuit and realizing the symmetry of the radiation pattern. The required specifications are more than 11.2% bandwidth in UHF band, above 6dBi antenna gain, standing wave ratio of 2:1 or less, less than ${\pm}1dB$ gain flatness in azimuth radiation pattern, more than 13 degrees in elevation radiation pattern of 3dB beamwidth. We confirmed the possibility of implementation through M&S and verified the result of M&S through production and testing. The test results are 11.2% bandwidth in the UHF band, 6.30 to 8.31 dBi gain, 1.53:1 standing wave ratio or less, within ${\pm}0.2dB$ gain flatness in the azimuth radiation pattern, elevation radiation pattern of 3dB beam width was 15.62 to 15.84 degrees. The test result meets all requirements specifications.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of fishery in offshore wind farms and evaluate the risk linked to the presence of turbines and submarine cables in these areas. With this objective, we studied an offshore wind farm in the Southwest Sea and the current state of vessels in the surrounding National Fishing Port. The risk assessment criteria for 22 fishing gears and methods were set by referring to the fishing boats; thereafter, the risk was assessed by experts. The fishing gears and methods that could be safely operated (i.e., associated with low risk) in the offshore wind farm were: single-line fishing, jigging, and the anchovy lift net. The risk was normal so that it is possible to operate, but the fishing gears and methods that need attention are: the set long line, drifting long line, troll line, squid rip hook, octopus pot, webfoot octopus pot, coastal fish pot, stow net on stake, winged stow net, stationary gill net, and drift gill net. Moreover, the fishing gears and methods difficult to operate in the of shore wind farm (i.e., associated with high risk) were: the dredge, beam trawl, and purse seine. Finally, those associated with very high risk and that should not be allowed in offshore wind farms were: the stow net, anchovy drag net, otter trawl, Danish seine, and bottom pair trawl.
This study derives the relative cross-section for the natW(p,xn)176Re nuclear reaction by measuring the gamma rays generated from the nuclear reaction with natural tungsten using a 100 MeV linear accelerator of the Korea Multi-purpose Accelerator Complex in the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. In general, research on isotopes with a short half-life always shows a tendency that the intensity of radioactivity decreases rapidly within a short period of time, making it very difficult to measure itself. In particular, 176Re is one of the relatively short radionuclides with a half-life of 5.3 minutes. In this study, 109.08 keV gamma rays generated from the 176Re isotope having such a short half-life were measured using a high-purity Ge detector(HPGe detector). The obtained relative measurements were the results in the 8 to 14 MeV proton energy domain published by Richard G. in 1967, and the TENDL-2019 value, which was the result of A. J. Koning in 2019, which evaluated the nuclear reaction cross-section by calculation based on this comparative analysis was performed. The results of this study are expected to be usefully applied to the design of nuclear fusion reactor which is known as future energy sources, elements ratio for the nuclear synthesis of astrophysics.

In order to improve the mechanical reliability of next-generation electronic devices including flexible, wearable devices, a high level of mechanical reliability is required at various flexible joints. Organic adhesive materials such as epoxy for bonding existing polymer substrates inevitably have an increase in the thickness of the joint and involve problems of thermodynamic damage due to repeated deformation and high temperature hardening. Therefore, it is required to develop a low-temperature bonding process to minimize the thickness of the joint and prevent thermal damage for flexible bonding. This study developed flexible laser transmission welding (f-LTW) that allows bonding of flexible substrates with flexibility, robustness, and low thermal damage. Carbon nanotube (CNT) is thin-film coated on a flexible substrate to reduce the thickness of the joint, and a local melt bonding process on the surface of a polymer substrate by heating a CNT dispersion beam laser has been developed. The laser process conditions were constructed to minimize the thermal damage of the substrate and the mechanism of forming a CNT junction with the polymer substrate. In addition, lap shear adhesion test, peel test, and repeated bending experiment were conducted to evaluate the strength and flexibility of the flexible bonding joint.

This paper summarizes the development and evaluation of the reinforcement details of CFRP plates to improve the bending performance of wooden beams. In this study, the reinforcing technology using high-strength bolts for the end of beam were developed as reinforcement details for reinforcing wooden beams with CFRP plates by EBM method. In order to evaluate the bending performance, a bending test was conducted for the specimens with details of reinforcement such as the EBM method and the NSM method. From the experimental results, the EBM specimens without end restraints had both the CFRP plate attachment failure and the splitting failure of the wood. In the load-displacement curve, the non-reinforced specimens exhibited linear elastic behavior and then brittle fracture after the maximum load. The maximum load of the specimens reinforced by the EBM method increased by 31.5~63.0% compared to the non-reinforced specimens, and the maximum load according to the end restraints of the high-strength bolts increased by 24.0%. Based on the reinforcement amount of the same CFRP plate, EBM reinforcement was 2.67 times larger in maximum load increase rate than NSM reinforcement.

High-speed railway bridges carry a risk of dynamic response amplification due to resonance caused by train loads, and running safety and riding comfort must therefore be reviewed through dynamic analysis in accordance with design codes. The running safety and ride comfort calculation procedure, however, is time consuming and expensive because dynamic analyses must be performed for every 10 km/h interval up to 110% of the design speed, including the critical speed for each train type. In this paper, a deep-learning-based prediction system that can predict the running safety and ride comfort in advance is proposed. The system does not use dynamic analysis but employs a deep learning algorithm. The proposed system is based on a neural network trained on the dynamic analysis results of each train and speed of the railway bridge and can predict the running safety and ride comfort according to input parameters such as train speed and bridge characteristics. To confirm the performance of the proposed system, running safety and riding comfort are predicted for a single span, straight simple beam bridge. Our results confirm that the deck vertical displacement and deck vertical acceleration for calculating running safety and riding comfort can be predicted with high accuracy.

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CRFP) materials are well suited to the rehabilitation of civil engineering structures due to their corrosion resistance, high strength to weight ratio and high stiffness to weight ratio. Their application in the field of the rehabilitation of concrete structures is increased due to the vast number of bridges and buildings in need of strengthening. However, RC members, strengthened with externally bonded CFRP plates, happened to collapse before reaching the expected design failure load. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the new strengthening method to overcome the problems of previous bonded strengthening method. This problems can be solved by prestressing the CFRP plate before bonding to the concrete. In this study, a total of 21 specimens of 3.3 m length were tested by the four point bending method after strengthening them with externally bonded CFRP plates. The CFRP plates were bonded without prestress and with various prestress levels ranging from 0.4% to 0.8% of CFRP plate strain. All specimen with end anchorage failed by a plate fracture regardless of the prestress levels while the specimen without end anchorage failed by the separation of the plate from the beam due to premature debonding. The cracking loads was proportionally related to the prestress levels, but the maximum loads of specimens strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates were insignificantly affected by the prestress levels.
In waveguide structures, waves may be partially reflected by local non-uniformities. The effects of local non-uniformities has been previously investigated by means of a combined spectral element and finite element (SE/FE) method at relatively low frequencies. However, since the SE is formulated based on a beam theory, the SE/FE method is not appropriated for analysis at higher frequencies where complex deformation of the waveguide occurs. So it is necessary to extend this approach for high frequencies. For the wave propagation at higher frequencies, a combined spectral super element and finite element (SSE/FE) method is introduced in this paper. As an example of the application of this method, wave reflection and transmission due to a local defect in a rail are simulated at frequencies between 20kHz and 30kHz. Also numerical errors are evaluated by means of the conservation of the incident power.

As the operating frequency of an electromagnetic wave increases, the maximum output and wavelength of the wave decreases, so that the size of the circuit cannot be reduced. As a result, the fabrication of a circuit with high power (of the order of or greater than kW range) and terahertz wave frequency band is limited, due to the problem of circuit size, to the order of ${\mu}m$ to mm. In order to overcome these limitations, we propose a source design technique for 0.1 THz~0.3 GW level with cylindrical shape (diameter ~2.4 cm). Modeling and computational simulations were performed to optimize the design of the high-power electromagnetic sources based on Cherenkov radiation generation technology using the principle of plasma wakefield acceleration with ponderomotive force and artificial dielectrics. An effective design guideline has been proposed to facilitate the fabrication of high-power terahertz wave vacuum devices of large diameter that are less restricted in circuit size through objective verification.
