  • Source localization in three-dimensional (3-D) wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is becoming a major research focus. Due to the complicated air-ground environments in 3-D positioning, many of the traditional localization methods, such as received signal strength (RSS) may have relatively poor accuracy performance. Benefit from prior learning mechanisms, fingerprinting-based localization methods are less sensitive to complex conditions and can provide relatively accurate localization performance. However, fingerprinting-based methods require training data at each grid point for constructing the fingerprint database, the overhead of which is very high, particularly for 3-D localization. Also, some of measured data may be unavailable due to the interference of a complicated environment. In this paper, we propose an efficient kernel based 3-D localization algorithm via tensor completion. We first exploit the spatial correlation of the RSS data and demonstrate the low rank property of the RSS data matrix. Based on this, a new training scheme is proposed that uses tensor completion to recover the missing data of the fingerprint database. Finally, we propose a kernel based learning technique in the matching phase to improve the sensitivity and accuracy in the final source position estimation. Simulation results show that our new method can effectively eliminate the impairment caused by incomplete sensing data to improve the localization performance.

  • Accurate estimation of the masses, the ages, and the chemical abundances of host stars is crucial to understand physical characteristics of exo-planetary systems. In this study, we investigate physical dimensions of 94 planet-hosting stars based on spectroscopic observation and stellar evolutionary computation, From the high resolution echelle spectroscopy of the BOES observation, we have analysed metallicities and alpha-element enhancements of host stars. By combining recent spectro-photometric observations, stellar parameters are calibrated within the frame work of the standard stellar theory. In general, the minimum chi-square estimation can be strongly biased in cases that stellar properties rapidly changes after the terminal age main-sequence. Instead, we adopt a Bayesian statistics considering a priori distribution of stellar parameters during the rapid evolutionary phases. we determine a reliable set of stellar parameters between theoretical model grids. To overcome this statistical bias, (1) we adopt a Bayesian statistics considering a priori distribution of stellar parameters during the rapid evolutionary phases and (2) we construct the fine model grid that covers mass range ($0.2{\sim}3.0M_{\odot}$) with the mass step ${\Delta}M=0.01M_{\odot}$, metallicities Z = 0.0001 ~ 0.04, and the helium and the alpha-element enhancement. In this presentation, we introduce our calibration scheme for several hosting stars.

  • Postal logistics organizations are characterized as having high labor intensity and short response times. These characteristics, along with rapid change in mail volume, make load scheduling a fundamental concern. Load analysis of major postal infrastructures such as post offices, sorting centers, exchange centers, and delivery stations is required for optimal postal logistics operation. In particular, the performance of mail traffic forecasting is essential for optimizing the resource operation by accurate load analysis. This paper addresses a traffic forecast problem of postal parcel that arises at delivery stations of Korea Post. The main purpose of this paper is to describe a method for predicting short-term traffic of postal parcel based on self-similarity analysis and to introduce an application of the traffic prediction model to postal logistics system. The proposed scheme develops multiple regression models by the clusters resulted from feature engineering and individual models for delivery stations to reinforce prediction accuracy. The experiment with data supplied by main postal delivery stations shows the advantage in terms of prediction performance. Comparing with other technique, experimental results show that the proposed method improves the accuracy up to 45.8%.

  • Nearest neighbor query in location-based services has become a popular application. Aiming at the shortcomings of the privacy protection algorithms of traditional ciphertext nearest neighbor query having the high system overhead because of the usage of the double Hilbert curves and having the inaccurate query results in some special circumstances, a privacy protection algorithm of ciphertext nearest neighbor query which is based on the single Hilbert curve has been proposed. This algorithm uses a single Hilbert curve to transform the two-dimensional coordinates of the points of interest into Hilbert values, and then encrypts them by the order preserving encryption scheme to obtain the one-dimensional ciphertext data which can be compared in numerical size. Then stores the points of interest as elements composed of index value and the ciphertext of the other information about the points of interest on the server-side database. When the user needs to use the nearest neighbor query, firstly calls the approximate nearest neighbor query algorithm proposed in this paper to query on the server-side database, and then obtains the approximate nearest neighbor query results. After that, the accurate nearest neighbor query result can be obtained by calling the precision processing algorithm proposed in this paper. The experimental results show that this privacy protection algorithm of ciphertext nearest neighbor query which is based on the single Hilbert curve is not only feasible, but also optimizes the system overhead and the accuracy of ciphertext nearest neighbor query result.

  • Among the various type of accelerometer, the servo rebalancing type accelermoter can be suitable for Inertial Navigation System, because of its high sensitivity and good response in low frequency. In this paper, we proposed a new technology to control inductive tuype accelerometer utilizing digital PWM method. The new developed digital PWM control has special design scheme for transmitting measurement value to outer device in its servo ollp. So it has no quantized error of transforming outputs of sensors to digital domain. The quantized error may make serious problem in INS system, because outputs of sensor are integrated once or twice by digital computer and it happens every sensor reading times. Therefore, in order to get the accurate information such as displacement, it is necessary to measure accurately the input current. In addition, Digital Signal Processing needs digital data transmission, digital PWM method is adaptive for this purpose. We realized a practical circuit for digital PWM control, analyzed the stability of the circuit, and designed the controller etc. In this study, we solved many practical problem for this application, and got out good results.

  • Observations indicate that turbulence in molecular clouds of the interstellar medium (ISM) is highly supersonic (M >> 1) and strongly magnetized (β ≈ 0.1), while in the intracluster medium (ICM) it is subsonic (M <~1) and weakly magnetized (β ≈ 100). Here, M is the turbulent Mach number and β is the ratio of the gas to magnetic pressures. Although magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in such environments has been previously studied through numerical simulations, some of its properties as well as its consequences are not yet fully described. In this talk, we report a study of MHD turbulence in molecular clouds and the ICM using a newly developed code based the high-order accurate, WENO (Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory) scheme. The simulation results using the WENO code are generally in agreement with those presented in the previous studies with, for instance, a TVD code (Porter et al. 2015 &, Park & Ryu 2019), but reveal more detailed structures on small scales. We here present and compare the properties of simulated turbulences with WENO and TVD codes, such as the spatial distribution of density, the density probability distribution functions, and the power spectra of kinetic and magnetic energies. We also describe the populations of MHD shocks and the energy dissipation at the shocks. Finally, we discuss the implications of this study on star formation processes in the ISM and shock dissipation in the ICM.

  • Accurate prediction of sea water temperature has been emphasized to make precise local weather forecast and to understand change of ecosystem. The Yellow Sea, which has turbid water and strong tidal current, is an unique shallow marginal sea. It is essential to include the effects of the turbidity and the strong tidal mixing for the realistic simulation of temperature distribution in the Yellow Sea. Evaluation of ocean circulation model response to vertical mixing scheme and turbidity is primary objective of this study. Three-dimensional ocean circulation model(Regional Ocean Modeling System) was used to perform numerical simulations. Mellor- Yamada level 2.5 closure (M-Y) and K-Profile Parameterization (KPP) scheme were selected for vertical mixing parameterization in this study. Effect of Jerlov water type 1, 3 and 5 was also evaluated. The simulated temperature distribution was compared with the observed data by National Fisheries Research and Development Institute to estimate model's response to turbidity and vertical mixing schemes in the Yellow Sea. Simulations with M-Y vertical mixing scheme produced relatively stronger vertical mixing and warmer bottom temperature than the observation. KPP scheme produced weaker vertical mixing and did not well reproduce tidal mixing front along the coast. However, KPP scheme keeps bottom temperature closer to the observation. Consequently, numerical ocean circulation simulations with M-Y vertical mixing scheme tends to produce well mixed vertical temperature structure and that with KPP vertical mixing scheme tends to make stratified vertical temperature structure. When Jerlov water type is higher, sea surface temperature is high and sea bottom temperature is low because downward shortwave radiation is almost absorbed near the sea surface.

  • This paper presents a feasible development on a highly accurate quick response adjustable speed drive implementation fur general purpose induction motor which operates on the basis of sensorless slip frequency type vector controlled sine-wave PWM inverter with an automatic tuning machine parameter estimation schemes. In the first place, the sensorless vector control theory on the three-phase voltage source-fed inverter induction motor drive system is developed in slip frequency based vector control principle. In particular, the essential procedure and considerations to measure and estimate the exact stator and rotor circuit parameters of general purpose induction motor are discussed under its operating conditions. The speed regulation characteristics of induction motor operated by the three-phase voltage-fed type current controlled PWM inverter using IGBT's is illustrated and evaluated fur machine parameter variations under the actual conditions of low frequency and high frequency operations for the load torque. In the second place, the variable speed induction motor drive system, employing sensorless vector control scheme which is based on three -phase high frequency carrier PWM inverter with automatic toning estimation schemes of the temperature -dependent and -independent machine circuit parameters, is practically implemented using DSP-based controller. Finally, the dynamic speed response performances for largely changed load torque disturbances as well as steady state speed vs. torque characteristics of this induction motor control implementation are illustrated and discussed from an experimental point of view.

  • To increase system capacity in WCDMA receiver, the coherent detection is an essential technology for recovering transmitted symbols correctly. For coherent detection, an accurate and fast channel estimation is required. In next generation mobile communication system, high frequency carriers are used, and high data rate services are provided for subscribers having high mobility. In this communication environment, however, the rapidly-changing doppler frequency degrades the quality of the transmitted signal a lot. In WCDMA system, the channel estimation is conducted using pilot channel and/or pilot symbols which are known to both transmitter and receiver. Some existing channel estimation algorithms utilize these information quite well, but the performance of channel estimation gets very poor in a complicated fading channel distorted by the doppler effect. In this paper, we propose a new channel estimation algorithm combining an early-late doppler compensator so that the doppler effect and the fading characteristics are compensated at the same time. By computer simulation, the proposed algorithm proved to be a much more efficient channel estimation method in the fast fading channel, even at reasonably low Eb/No.

  • Generally, the Wheeler cap method is used to measure the efficiency of small antennas. This method often gives an unreliable efficiency when the antenna has a complicated operating principle. However, if the high-order circuit model which more closely represents the input impedance of the antenna is used in Wheeler cap method, then more accurate efficiency can be achieved. In this paper, we propose a novel method that can build the high-order circuit model using transformer circuits with the genetic algorithm(GA). To efficiently reduce the searching space in the GA and improve the convergence of the GA process, we suggest a novel scheme that finds appropriate initial values. Finally we verify the proposed method by measuring the efficiency of some passive RFID tag antennas.
