The postbeam joint connection of the existing steel structure moment flexible frame system did not produce sufficient seismic resistance during the earthquakes in Northridge and Kobe, and it sustained brittle fracturing on the joint connection. This study was performed to execute the high-tensile bolt share connection of H-beams web and the full-scale experiment as a parameter of the existing reinforcement of H-flange rib, by making the shape of the existing joint connection. This experiment was performed to determine the extent of the decrease of the number of high-tensile bolts and how to improve workability of the two-phase shear connection of web beam. In addition, this study was performed to enhance the seismic resistant capacity through the enforcement of rib plates. As a result of the experiment of two-phase shear connection of H-beam web and of joint connection to be reinforced by rib plates, the results of this study showed that the initial stiffness, energy-dissipation capacity, and rotational capacity of plasticity was higher than the existing joint connection. As to the rate of increasing the strength and deformation capacity, there were differences between the tension side and compression side because of the position of shear tap. However, as a whole, they have shown excellent seismic resistant capacity. Also, all the test subjects exceeded 4% (rate of delamination), about 0.029 rad (total plastic capacity), and about 130% (maximum strength of joint connection) of fully plastic moment for the original section. Accordingly, this study was considered as it would be available in the design more than the intermediate-level of moment flexible frame.
The cracks are developed in reinforced concrete(RC) beams at the early stage of service load because of the relatively small tensile strength of concrete. The structural strength and stiffness are decreased by reduction of tensile resistance capacity of concrete due to the developed cracks. Using the fiber reinforced concrete that is increased the flexural strength and tensile strength at tensile part can enhance the strength and stiffness of concrete structures and decrease the tensile flexural cracks and deflections. Therefore, the RC beams used of the fiber reinforced concrete at. tensile part ensure the safety and serviceability of the concrete structures. In this work, analytical model of a dual concrete beams composed of the normal strength concrete at compression part and the high tension strength concrete at tensile part is developed by using the equilibrium conditions of forces and compatibility conditions of strains. Three groups of test beams that are formed of one reinforced concrete beam and two dual concrete beams for each steel reinforcement ratio are tested to examine the flexural behavior of dual concrete beams. The comparative study of total nine test beams is shown that the ultimate load of a dual concrete beams relative to the RC beams is increased in approximately 30%. In addition, the flexural rigidity, as used here, referred to the slope of load-deflection curves is increased and the deflection is decreased.

The material and geometrical nonlinear finite elment analysis of UHPFRC 50M composite box girder was carried out. Constitute law in tension and compressive region of UHPFRC and HPC were modeled based on specimen test. The accuracy of nonlinear FEM analysis was verified by the experimental result of UHPFRC 50M composite girder. The UHPFRC 50M segmental composite box girder which has 1.5% steel fiber of volume fraction, 135MPa compressive strength and 18MPa tensile strength was tested. The post-tensioned UHPFRC composite girder consisted of three segment UHPFRC U-girder and High Strength Concrete reinforced slab. The parts of UHPFRC girder were modeled by 8nodes hexahedron elements and reinforcement bars and tendons were built by 2nodes linear elements by Midas FEA software. The constitutive laws of concrete materials were selected Multi-linear model both of tension and compression function under total strain crack model, which was included in classifying of smeared crack model. The nonlinearity of reinforcement elements and tendon was simulated by Von Mises criteria. The nonlinear static analysis was applied by incremental-iteration method with convergence criteria of Newton-Raphson. The validation of numerical analysis was verified by comparison with experimental result and numerical analysis result of load-deflection response, neutral axis coordinate change, and cracking pattern of girder. The load-deflection response was fitted very well with comparison to the experimental result. The finite element analysis is seen to satisfactorily predict flexural behavioral responses of post-tensioned, reinforced UHPFRC composite box girder.
A restraint coefficient for creep and dry shrinkage deformation of concrete in a composite section was derived to calculate the residual stress, and an equation for the loss rate of the pre-compression force was proposed. The derived restraint coefficient was computed by using the transformed section properties for the age-adjusted effective modulus of elasticity. The long-term behavior of complicate composite sections could be analyzed easily with the restraint coefficient. The articles of the current design code was examined for PSC and steel composite sections. The dry shrinkage strains of $150 ~ 200$\times$10^{-6}$ for the computations of the statically indeterminate force and the expansion joint could be under-estimated for less restrained sections such as the reinforced concrete. The dry shrinkage strain of $180$\times$10^{-6}$ for the computation of residual stress in the steel composite section was unreasonably less value. The loss rate of 16.3% of the design code for the PSC composite section in this study was conservative for the long-term deformation of the ACI 205 but could not be used safely for that of the Eurocode 2. For pre-compressed concrete slab in the steel composite section, the loss rate of prestressed force with low strength reinforcement was much larger than that with high strength tendon. The loss rate of concrete pre-compression increased, while that of pre-tension decreased due to the restraint of the steel girder.
On this research, laser welding technology for manufacturing automobile body is studied. Laser welding technology is one of the important technologies used in the manufacturing of lighter, safer automotive bodies at a high level of productivity; the leading automotive manufacturers have replaced spot welding with laser welding in the process of car body assembly. Korean auto manufacturers are developing and applying the laser welding technology using a high output power Nd:YAG laser and a 6-axes industrial robot. On the other hand, the robot-based remote laser welding system was equipped with a long focal laser scanner system in robotic end effect. Laser system, robot system, and scanner system are used for realizing the high speed laser welding system. The remote laser welding system and industrial robotic system are used to consist of robot-based remote laser welding system. The robot-based remote laser welding system is flexible and able to improve laser welding speed compared with traditional welding as spot welding and laser welding. The robot-based remote laser systems used in this study were Trumpf's 4kW Nd:YAG laser (HL4006D) and IPG's 1.6kW Fiber laser (YLR-1600), while the robot systems were of ABB's IRB6400R (payload:120kg) and Hyundai Heavy Industry's HX130-02 (payload:130kg). In addition, a study of quality evaluation and monitoring technology for the remote laser welding was conducted. The welding joints of steel plate and steel plate coated with zinc were butt and lapped joints. The quality testing of the laser welding was conducted by observing the shape of the beads on the plate and the cross-section of the welded parts, analyzing the results of mechanical tension test, and monitoring the plasma intensity and temperature by using UV and IR detectors. Over the past years, Trumf's 4kW Nd:YAG laser and ABB's IRB6400R robot system was used. Nowadays, the new laser source, robot and laser scanner system are used to increase the processing speed and to improve the efficiency of processes. This paper proposes the robot-based remote laser welding system as a means of resolving the limited welding speed and accuracy of conventional laser welding systems.
A slip critical joint has various values to adopt the proper slip coefficient in various conditions of faying surfaces in the following codes: AISC, AIJ and Eurocode 3. However, the Korean Building Code still regulates the unique slip coefficient, 0.45, regardless of the diverse faying conditions. In this study, the slip resistance test, including five kinds of surface treatments were conducted to obtain the proper slip coefficients available to steel plate KS SM490A. The faying surfaces were comprised of a clean mill, rust, red lead paint, zinc primer, and shot blast treatment. The candidates for high strength bolts were torque-shear bolts, torque-shear bolts with zinc coating, and ASTM A490 bolts. Based on the test results, the specimens with a shot blasted surface and rusted surface exhibited $k_s$, 0.61, and 0.5, respectively. It is recommended that the specimens with zinc primer exhibit $k_s{\geq}0.40$. The clean mill treated surface had prominently lower values, 0.27. For red lead painted treatment, the thickness of the coating affects the determinant of slip coefficient, so it is necessary to establish a minimum $k_s$ of 0.2, with a coating thickness of 65 ${\mu}m$. During 1,000 hours of relaxation, the uncoated surfaces exhibited the loss of clamping force behind 3%, while the coated surfaces within a certain limited thickness exhibited the loss of clamping within a range of 4.71% and 8.37%.

For a hydro power plant project, the headrace tunnel having a finished diameter of 3.3m was constructed in volcanic rocks with well-developed vertical joint and high groundwater table. The intake facility was located 20.3 km upstream of the powerhouse and headrace tunnel of 20 km in length and penstock of 440 m in height connected the intake and the powerhouse. The typical caldera lake, Lake Toba set the geology at the site; the caving of the ground caused tension cracks in the vertical direction to be developed and initial stresses at the ground to be released. High groundwater table(the maximum head of 20 bar) in the area of well-connected vertical joints delayed the progress of tunnel excavation severely due to the excessive inflow of groundwater. The excavation of tunnel was made using open-shield type TBM and mucking cars on the rail. High volume of water inflow raised the water level inside tunnel to 70 cm, 17% of tunnel diameter (3.9 m) and hindered the mucking of spoil under water. To improve the productivity, several adjustments such as modification of TBM and mucking cars and increase in the number of submersible pumps were made for the excavation of severe water inflow zone. Since the ground condition encountered during excavation turned out to be much worse, it was decided to adopt PC segment lining instead of RC lining. Besides, depending on the conditions of the water inflow, rock mass condition and internal water pressure, one of the invert PC segment lining with in-situ RC lining, RC lining and steel lining was applied to meet the site specific condition. With the adoption of PC segment lining, modification of TBM and other improvement, the excavation of the tunnel under severe groundwater condition was successfully completed.
Recently, the production of shipbuilding and offshore plant industries, with a trend toward large structures, has led to an increased use of high strength ultra-thick plates. The use of ultra-thick plates increases the welding tasks, and the welding process generates distortion and residual stress in the weldment because of the rapid heating and cooling. Welding distortion and residual stress in the welded structure resulte in many troubles such as deformation and life deterioration. In particular, the welding residual stress has an important effect on welding deformation, fatigue, buckling strength, brittleness, etc. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the residual stress at a multi-pass weldment using an experimental method for EH36 high-tension steel. In this experimental method, AIS3000 was used to measure the residual stress of a welded part, HAZ, and base metal; EPMA and XRD were used to study the material properties.
Traditionally used analytical approach to predict the fatigue failure of reinforced concrete (RC) structure is generally conservative and has certain limitations. The nonlinear finite element method (FEM) offers less expensive solution for fatigue analysis with sufficient accuracy. However, the conventional implicit dynamic analysis is very expensive for high level computation. Whereas, an explicit dynamic analysis approach offers a computationally operative modelling to predict true responses of a structural element under periodic loading and might be perfectly matched to accomplish long life fatigue computations. Hence, this study simulates the fatigue behaviour of RC beams with finite element (FE) assemblage presenting a simplified explicit dynamic numerical solution to show computer aided fatigue behaviour of RC beam. A commercial FEM package, ABAQUS has been chosen for this complex modelling. The concrete has been modelled as a 8-node solid element providing competent compression hardening and tension stiffening. The steel reinforcements are simulated as two-node truss elements comprising elasto-plastic stress-strain behaviour. All the possible nonlinearities are duly incorporated. Time domain analysis has been adopted through an automatic Newmark-β time incremental technique. The program consists of twelve RC beams to visualize the real behaviour during fatigue process and to obtain the reliability of the study. Both the numerical and experimental results indicate a redistribution of stresses along the time and damage accumulation of beam which severely affect the serviceability and ultimate capacity of RC beam. The output of the FEM analysis demonstrates good match with the experimental consequences which affirm the efficacy of the computer aided model. The controlled fatigue damage evolution at service fatigue load limits makes the FE model an efficient tool in predicting high cycle fatigue behaviour of RC structures.
This study encompasses the performance of static and fatigue test for the 8 large scale test specimens to clarify the fatigue behavior of coped stringer and the effect of the repair and strengthening on the damaged stringer of the floor system in steel railway bridges. For the purpose of the research, the actual stress wave for the existing bridge was measured, the basic stress range frequency histogram was made and the equivalent stress range was calculated. Using the result from the equivalent stress range made by adjusting the stress range, the static and fatigue test was carried out by identifying the previous rehabilitation and after. As the result of the static tests, it was revealed that the level of local stress under the S1 specimen test of the real equivalent stress range was similar to tensile strength of the test material, and it was consistent with the requirement of the initiation condition of the fatigue crack. Through the various rehabilitation methods to the damaged specimens, the effects of the repair and reinforcement were analyzed. According to the results of the repair of effect, bolting the high tension bolt over the stop hole was confirmed to be more adequate method than drilling only stop hole to delay the fatigue crack growth. Futhermore, in case of the stringer subjected by bending moment, the reinforcement over the upper flange side was determined to be a useful strengthening method, and the reinforcement to the web of the stringer was not appropriate to accomodate as a adequate strengthening method. Also it was confirmed that the category of the fatigue design for the coped stringer met with the category E specified on the fatigue design criteria of the Highway Standard Specification in Korea.
