Flexural behavior of UHPC-RC composite beam

  • In order to evaluate the effects of U shape ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) permanent form on the behaviors of Reinforced Concrete (RC) beam, a full scale RC composite beam is designed and tested with U shape UHPC permanent form and a reference RC beam with same parameters is tested simultaneously for comparison. The effects of the permanent form on the failure mode, cracking strength, ultimate capacity and deformation are studied. Test results shows that the contributions of the U shape UHPC permanent form to the flexural cracking behaviors of RC beam are significant. This study may provide a reference for the design of sustainable RC beam with high durable UHPC permanent form.

고강도 재료를 사용한 철근콘크리트 보의 모멘트-곡률관계 및 곡률연성지수 평가 (Evaluation on Moment-Curvature Relations and Curvature Ductility Factor of Reinforced Concrete Beams with High Strength Materials)

  • 콘크리트 및 철근의 강도는 철근콘크리트 부재의 휨거동 및 연성에 많은 영향을 주며, 설계기준에서는 항복강도가 600 MPa인 고강도 철근의 사용이 허용되고 있다. 고강도 콘크리트가 RC부재의 휨거동에 미치는 영향에 대해서는 많은 연구가 진행되었으나, 고강도 철근에 대해서는 연구가 미흡한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 고강도 콘크리트 및 철근을 사용한 직사각형 단면 RC 보 단면의 모멘트-곡률 관계를 해석적 방법으로 구하여 다양한 철근 배치 조건하에서 콘크리트 및 철근의 강도가 부재의 휨거동 및 곡률연성지수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 부재의 철근 배치조건에 따라 콘크리트와 철근의 강도가 부재의 휨거동 및 연성지수에 미치는 영향은 다르게 나타났다. 공칭모멘트가 동일한 단면에서는 철근의 항복강도가 400 MPa에서 600 MPa로 증가하면 연성지수는 30% 이상 감소하고, 콘크리트 압축강도가 30 MPa에서 70 MPa로 증가하면 연성지수는 약 3배 증가하였다.

  • The main purpose of this study is to estimate the internal temperature of RC beam under fire. For this purpose, the finite difference method was used. In the previous studies, the structural behavior of fire damaged RC beams was investigated through experiments. The result was concluded that The high temperature affects the properties of concrete such as the elastic modulus, the compressive strength. The internal temperature Estimation of the concrete is helpful for understanding the structural behavior of fire damaged RC beams. Especially, high strength concrete has more spalling than normal strength one. So, this study is performed analysis of internal temperature of RC beam considering spalling.

An Analytic Method for the Residual Strength Evaluation of Fire-Damaged Reinforced Concrete Beam

  • This study is to get the proper evaluation of the residual property of reinforced concrete beam exposed to fire. This study focused on the strength resistance and analytical evaluation of RC members exposed high temperature. And this study is the basis analytical research to conduct the other studies. To analysis by the finite element method, the Total-RC program was used to analysis it and the Total-Temp program was also used to analysis the temperature distributions at the section. All of results were compared with the pre-existing experimental data of simple supported beam. Using it, the parameters influencing the structural capacity of the high temperature-damaged RC members and residual strength estimation are investigated. The temperature distribution and the structural capacity at the section are calculated in this step. An application of this method is compared with the heating test result and residual property test for simple supported beam which is subjected to ISO 834 test fire. The results of this study are as follows; 1) The loads-displacement relationship of RC beam, considering initial thermal stress of cross section and heat transfer analysis are estimated comparing analytical value with pre-existing experimental results. 2) by the heating time (0, 1, 2 hours), the results of analysis with parameters show that the load capacity exposing at fire is affected.

Finite element analysis of RC beam-column joints with high-strength materials

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) interior beam-column joints with high-strength materials: concrete compressive strength of 100 MPa and the yield strength of longitudinal bars of 685 MPa, were analyzed using three-dimensional (3-D) nonlinear finite element method (FEM). Specimen OKJ3 of joint shear failure type was a plane interior joint, and Specimen 12 of beam flexural failure type was a 3-D interior joint with transverse beams. Though the analytical initial stiffness was higher than experimental one, the analytical results gave a good agreement with the test results on the maximum story shear forces, the failure mode.

Predictions of curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforced concrete beams with high strength materials

  • The high strength materials have been more widely used in reinforced concrete structures because of the benefits of the mechanical and durable properties. Generally, it is known that the ductility decreases with an increase in the strength of the materials. In the design of a reinforced concrete beam, both the flexural strength and ductility need to be considered. Especially, when a reinforced concrete structure may be subjected an earthquake, the members need to have a sufficient ductility. So, each design code has specified to provide a consistent level of minimum flexural ductility in seismic design of concrete structures. Therefore, it is necessary to assess accurately the ductility of the beam sections with high strength materials in order to ensure the ductility requirement in design. In this study, the effects of concrete strength, yield strength of reinforcement steel and amount of reinforcement including compression reinforcement on the complete moment-curvature behavior and the curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforcement concrete beam sections have been evaluated and a newly prediction formula for curvature ductility factor of doubly RC beam sections has been developed considering the stress of compression reinforcement at ultimate state. Based on the numerical analysis results, the proposed predictions for the curvature ductility factor are verified by comparisons with other prediction formulas. The proposed formula offers fairly accurate and consistent predictions for curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforced concrete beam sections.

Predicting the flexural capacity of RC beam with partially unbonded steel reinforcement

  • Due to the reduction of bond strength resulting from the high corrosion level of reinforcing bars, influence of this reduction on flexural capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) beam should be considered. An extreme case is considered, where bond strength is complete lost and/or the tensile steel are exposed due to heavy corrosion over a fraction of the beam length. A compatibility condition of deformations of the RC beam with partially unbonded length is proposed. Flexural capacity of this kind of RC beam is predicted by combining the proposed compatibility condition of deformations with equilibrium condition of forces. Comparison between the model's predictions with the experimental results published in the literature shows the practicability of the proposed model. Finally, influence of some parameters on the flexural capacity of RC beam with partially unbonded length is discussed. It is concluded that the flexural capacity of the beam may not be influenced by the completely loss of bond of the whole beam span as long as the tensile steel can yield; whether or not the reduction of the flexural capacity of the beam resulting from the loss of bond over certain length may occur depends on the detailed parameters of the given beam.

Band Plate로 연결된 RC기둥-철골보 접합부의 이력거동에 관한 실험연구 (Structural Behavior of the RC Column-Steel Beam Joint with Band Plate)

  • This paper presents the experimental result of Reinforced Concrete column-steel beam joint connected by Band Plates(BP). Main parameters in the test are the shape of BP and thickness of plate. Ten interior and exterior RC column-steel beam joint specimens are designed. Cyclic loads are applied to the beam end of eight specimens (four interior specimens and four exterior specimens). To evaluate the cyclic effect, monotonic loads are acted for two specimens. All specimen showed similar failure pattern such as the plate of BP get torn after the large deformation. Even though the specimen with double cross type BP has lower strength than the specimen with single cross type BP, the energy dissipation capacity of the specimen turned out high. Thus, provided the strength of joint with double cross type to be designed to have suitable strength by increasing the thickness of plate, the joint system may show higher seismic capacity.

  • An experimental study was carried out for hybrid steel beams with reinforced concrete ends. The purpose is to examine the shear strength and to develop the design methodology of the RC-S connection region. Tested were four beams which included a reference beam and three beams with various parameters. The reference beam was used to make a comparison with remaining specimens. The test parameters were focused mostly on the concentrated shear reinforcements. The ratio of concentrated shear reinforcements and their types were investigated in this study.

고강도 재료를 사용한 철근콘크리트 보 단면의 곡률연성지수 예측 (Predictions of Curvature Ductility Factor of Reinforced Concrete Beam Sections Used High Strength Concrete and Steel)

  • 콘크리트 구조물의 대형화에 따라 고강도를 갖는 재료가 최근에 많이 사용되고 있는 추세이다. 고강도 재료의 사용은 역학적 성질 또는 내구성에 있어서는 장점이 있으나 구조물의 연성 거동에는 불리한 것으로 알려져 있다. 철근콘크리트 부재는 강도뿐만 아니라 적절한 연성이 확보되도록 설계가 되어야 하기 때문에 철근콘크리트 보의 연성을 적절하게 평가할 수 있어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 고강도 재료를 사용한 철근콘크리트 보부재의 곡률연성지수의 예측식을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 고강도 콘크리트 및 철근을 사용한 직사각형 단면 RC 보의 모멘트-곡률 관계를 해석적 방법으로 계산하여 다양한 철근 배치 조건하에서 콘크리트 및 철근의 강도가 부재의 휨거동 및 곡률연성지수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였고, 단철근 및 복철근 보에 모두 적용할 수 있는 극한상태에서의 압축철근의 응력을 고려한 새로운 곡률연성지수 예측식을 도출하였다. 제안한 곡률연성지수 예측식은 기존의 식과 비교분석하였으며, 단철근 및 복철근 보에서 예측식에 의해 계산된 곡률연성지수는 수치해석에 의해 얻은 곡률연성지수 값을 오차 범위 9% 내에서 예측하는 것으로 나타났다.
