High-speed permanent magnet machines are likely to be a key technology for electric drives and motion control systems for many applications, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size and low weight. In high-speed machines, the permanent magnets are often contained within a retaining sleeve. However, the sleeve and the magnets are exposed to high order flux harmonics, which cause parasitic eddy current losses. Rotor losses of high-speed machines are of great importance especially in high-speed applications, because losses heat the rotor, which is often very compact construction and thereby difficult to cool. This causes a danger of demagnetization of the NdFeB permanent magnets. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the prediction of the rotor losses. This paper is concerned with the rotor losses in permanent magnet high-speed machines that are caused by permeance variation due to stator slotting. First, the flux harmonics are determined by double Fourier analysis of the normal flux density data over the rotor surface. And then, the rectilinear model was used to calculate rotor losses in permanent magnet machines. Finally, Poynting vector have been used to investigate the rotor eddy current losses of high-speed Permanent magnet machine.
A high speed rotor balancing machine was developed, which is capable of balancing a flexible rotor in high speed. The machine is largely consisted of vacuum chamber, oil supply system and vacuum pump system. And, in order to investigate performances of the machine, various tests were carried. After high speed rotor balancing of gas turbine engine rotor using influence coefficient method, the flexible engine rotor passed smoothly through its critical speed.
This paper presented is a case study of a real compressor rotor of a refinery plant for high speed balancing of flexible rotor. The rotor was tested in the expert high-speed balancing facility established by KIMM at early 2004. The capability of the facility can reach 40000rpm in rotation speed and 8 ton in rotor weight for high-speed balancing. The facility performs multi-plane at-speed balancing using influence coefficient from the vibration data measured at two pedestals. The test rotor had exceeded permissible criteria of vibration at initial run. But by processing a low-speed balancing at 1000 rpm and six trial run trying to calculate influence coefficient of rotor to the range of operating speed, the final result of high-speed balancing revealed a remarkable reduce of vibration at pedestal of the rotor.
In high-speed PM machines, rotor losses form a larger proportion of the total losses than usual in conventional low speed machines. In order to maintain the mechanical integrity of a high-speed PM rotor intended for high-speed operation, the rotor assembly is often retained within a sleeve or can. The sleeve is exposed to field produced by the stator from either the slotting or the mmf harmonics that are not synchronous with the rotor. These non-synchronous fields cause the significant rotor losses. An optimum design of high-speed PM machines requires the accurate prediction for these rotor losses. On the basis of analytical field analysis and 2D finite element analysis (FEA), this paper deals with the rotor losses.
In this paper, the rotor losses in high-speed permanent synchronous motor (PMSM) considering the operating condition are discussed. In order to maintain the mechanical integrity of a high-speed permanent magnet machine rotor intended for high-speed operation, the rotor assembly is often retained within a stainless steel or Carbon-Fiber/Epoxy sleeve. The sleeve is exposed to fields produced by the stator from either the slotting or the mmf harmonics that are not synchronous with rotor losses. On the basis of analytical field analysis, the rotor losses are analyzed. In particular, the no-load, rated with air-cooled, and forced water cooled conditions are considered. The results are validated extensively by comparison with non-linear finite element method (FEM).
The support bearing requires high DN to raise specific energy efficiency for the state of the art rotating machine with high speed. Especially for the system has a big rotor(670 kgf) with high speed(about one million DNs) such as the pulsed generator, the selection of the bearing and lubrication method are very important. So the study for the critical speed of hollow rotor as well in accordance with high speed rotor and a full analysis are needed for rotor bearing system. This paper describes the analysis for rotor bearing system of pulsed generator compared with experimental data. The bearing and lubrication method are discussed as well with experimental data.
Recently the requirement of long-term mobile energy source for mobile robot or small-sized unmanned vehicle is highly increased, and the micro turbine generator(MTG) which is known to have high energy and power density is under development. MTG is designed to have air foil bearing and high speed rotor of which operating speed is 400,000rpm. In the development stage of high speed rotor and bearing, stability analysis for the full operational speed range is essential and the dynamic coefficients such as stiffness and damping coefficients of bearing depending on the rotational speed are required for that. Although perturbation method is usually used to identify the dynamic coefficients, it's not easy to give the perturbation to the high speed rotating rotor. In this study, we present the dynamic coefficients measurement system for air foil bearing which consists of electromagnets, gap sensors, high speed motor and controller. This measurement system can exert the sine sweep force to the rotor-bearing, measure the displacement of rotor and get FRF(Frequency response function) of rotor-bearing. The least square estimation method is applied to identify the dynamic coefficients of bearing from the measured frequency response at the different rpm and the identified dynamic coefficients for the wide rotational speed range are presented.
A new hose slurry spreader with improved spreading uniformity is developed to distribute the slurrynear to the soil surface and to reduce odor problems. The precision of distributed slurry was investigated using 3 types of slurry and found to be dependent on the rotor speed. For the solid matter separated fluid containing 0.1% of dry matter rotor speed of 150 rpm showed best uniformity with CV of 10% In the case of slurry from dairy cattle which contains 8.2% of dry matter high rotor speed of 330 rpm showed best result with CV of 7.2% Also swine slurry which has a 13.6% of dry matter content showed the best result of 8.1% CV at the high rotor speed of 250rpm. A high rotor speed generates enough pressure in the central distributor and as a result uniform distribution of slurry can be achieved. In conclusion it is highly recommended rotor speed of 300 rpm to get the best performance.
This study investigates the performance and blade airloads for a rigid coaxial rotor of high-speed compound unmanned rotorcrafts. The present compound unmanned rotorcraft uses not only a rigid coaxial rotor, but also wings and propellers for high-speed flights. For the rigid coaxial rotor in this work, CAMRAD II, a rotorcraft comprehensive analysis code, is used to study the performance at a flight speed of up to 250 knots and blade section lift forces at 230 knots. As the flight speed increases, the rotor power decreases; however, the power of propellers increases to overcome the drag force of a rotorcraft in high-speed flight. The effective lift-to-drag ratio of a rotor has the maximum value of about 11.6 which is much higher than the value of the conventional helicopter. The blade section lift forces of the upper and lower rotors at 230 knots show the similar variation trends for one rotor revolution, and the impulses because of the aerodynamic interaction between both rotors are observed.
In this paper, we have checked a method of performance evaluation for electronic pedal, which is a core technology of HBD for detecting the axle temperature of high-speed train. As it is practically impossible to conduct train speed test of 500 km/h, we utilize a high speed rotor for evaluating high speed performance of the electronic pedal instead. According to this method, we found that the measurement results by the velocity measuring instrument is similar with the ones from this research through the high speed rotor. In conclusion, it will be possible to conduct reliability evaluation for high speed performance for Beacon, Balise and RFID, which are utilized for transmitting vital information of train control systems through using the rotor.
