  • As the scale factor of model propellers utilized in cavitation test is about 40, it is difficult to find out practical countermeasures against the small area erosions on the blade tip region throughout model erosion tests. In this study, a partial propeller blade model was used for the observation of cavitation pattern for the eroded propeller. A partial propeller blade model was manufactured from 0.7R to tip with expanded profile and with adjustable device of angle of attack. Reynold's number of a partial propeller blade model is 7 times larger than that of a model propeller. Also, anti-singing edge and application of countermeasures to partial propeller blade model which produced in large scale can be more practical than a model propeller. For the observation of cavitation at high Reynold's number, high speed cavitation tunnel was used. To find out the most severe erosive blade position during a revolution, cavitation observation tests were carried out at 5 blade angle positions.

  • The present manuscript focuses the effects of suction on the flow of the dusty fluid along permeable exponentially stretching cylinder. Derived PDEs for this work are changed into ODEs by adopting right transformations. Numerical procedure is carried out for the obtained resultant equations by Shooting Technique in accordance with Runge-Kutta (RK-6) technique. Obtained results for the parameters namely, particle interaction parameter, suction parameter and Reynold number parameters are probed thoroughly. Some salient points are: (a) Fluid velocity decreases and the dust phase velocity rises for the higher values of particle interaction parameter; (b) more suction produces retarding velocities for both the phases; (c) high Reynold number slows down the fluid velocity while the speed of dust phase and (d) skin friction coefficient goes high for all these parameters.

  • The output of the Stirling engine is influenced by the regenerator effectiveness. The regenerator effectiveness is influenced by heat transfer and flow friction loss of the regenerator matrix. In this paper, in order to provide basic data for the design of regenerator matrix, characteristics of flow friction loss were investigated by a packed method of matrix in the oscillating flow as the same condition of operation in a Stirling engine. As matrices, two different wire screens were used. The results are summarized as follows; 1. With the wire screen of No. 50 as regenerator matrices, pressure drop of working fluid of the oscillating flow is shown as 3 times higher than that of one directional flow, not too much influenced by the number of packed meshes. 2. With the wire screen of No. 100 as regenerator matrices, pressure drop of working fluid of the oscillating flow is shown as 2.5 times on the average higher than that of one directional flow, not too much influenced by the number of packed meshes. 3. Under one directional flow which used regenerator matrices with both 200, 240, and 280 wire screens of No. 50 and 320, 370, and 420 wire screens of No. 100, the relationship between the friction factor and Reynold No. is shown as the following formula. $$f=\frac{0.00326639}{Re\iota}-1.29106{\times}10^{-4}$$ 4. Under oscillating flow which used regenerator matrices with both 200, 240, and 280 wire screens of No. 50 and 320, 370, and 420 wire screens of No. 100, the relationship between the friction factor and Reynold No. is shown as the following formula. $$f_r=\frac{0.000918567}{Re\iota}+1.86101{\times}10^{-5}$$ 5. The pressure drop is shown as high in proportion as the number of meshes has been higher, and the number of packed wire screens as matrices increases.

  • The relationship between the excitation frequency and the vortex shedding frequency is analyzed during the oscillation of the circular cylinder. Two-dimension unsteady Navier-Stoke's equation is calculated by using the Optimized High Order Compact (OHOC) scheme. The flow condition is Mach number 0.3 and Reynold's number 1000. From the results acquired by calculation, it can be inferred that, when the excitation frequency is near the vortex shedding frequency at the fixed cylinder wake, the oscillation frequency of lift and drag coefficients appears to lock-on. The lock-on refers to a phenomenon in which the aerodynamic coefficient appears as one primary oscillation frequency through excitation and its amplitude is amplified. In the non-lock-on zone, the excitation frequency is not in the lock-on mode anymore and beat is formed in which two or more primary oscillation frequencies of the aerodynamic coefficient are mixed together.

  • An experimental study was carried out in a three-dimensional cubic cavity driven by 2-dimensional plane Poiseuille flow for three kinds of Reynolds number, $10^4$, 3 $\times$ $10^4$ and 5 $\times$ $10^4$ based on the cavity width and cavity inlet mean flow velcoity. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system. Laser based illumination and two-frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm are adopted. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable at above Re = 3 $\times$ $10^4$ Reynolds numbers and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet driving Poiseuille flow is collided with the clock-wise rotating main primary vortex at upper center area. Instant velocity profiles reveal that deformed forced vortex formation is observed throughout the separate two areas.

  • Mineral insulating oils are an important insulating materials in oil-filled transformer. However, the mineral oil is the cause of the environmental problem. The vegetable oils are substitutes for mineral oil because of its biodegradability characteristic. As large size and high rating of the transformer increases, the losses increase at a faster rate. So insulating oil is forced circulation in the oil-filled transformer by using oil pumps. The flow electrification occurs when insulating oil was forced to be circulated. To check the flow electrification, had conducted experiments varying factors. As a result, the streaming electrification could see the changes according to flow velocity, oil temperature and insulation materials.

  • In order to understand and explain the spary combustion, it was necessary to understand the disintegration mechanisms of liquid jet. To understand the disintegration mechanisms of liquid jet, the disintegration phenomena and uniform droplet production regions of testing liquid jet was investigated by means of longitudinally vibration capillary nozzle, which was injected the testing liquids. The testing liquids were light oil and light oil and light oil blended with 25wt% fish oil (File fish oil, Sardine fish oil, Alaska pollac oil) The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The uniform droplet phenomena have been changed according to the frequency of capillary tube, the jet velocity and physical properties of testing oils. 2. Within the region of uniform droplet, Reynold number was increased as Weber number increases. 3. The lower limit of wave length in which uniform droplet was produced 0.8d which was lower than Rayleigh wave length 4. The light oil blended with file fish oil which has lower viscosity and surface tension had the widest uniform droplet production region on the frequency and velocity among testing oils. But light oil blended with sardine fish oil were similar with light oil in the uniform production region.

  • For super long-span bridges, the aerodynamic forces induced by the flow passing the box girder should be considered carefully. And the Reynolds number sensitively of aerodynamic characteristics is one of considerable issue. In the study, a numerical study on the Reynolds number sensitivity of aerodynamic characteristic (flow pattern, pressure distribution and aerodynamic forces) of a twin-box girder were carried out using large eddy simulation (LES) with the dynamic Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid model. The results show that the aerodynamic characteristics have strong correlation with the Reynolds number. At the leading edge, the flow experiences attachment, departure, and reattachment stages accompanying by the laminar transition into turbulence, causing pressure plateaus to form on the surface, and the pressure plateaus gradually shrinks. Around the gap, attributing that the flow experiences stages of laminar cavity flow, the wake with alternate shedding vortices, and turbulent cavity flow in sequence with an increase in the Reynolds number, the pressures around the gap vary greatly with the Reynold number. At the trailing edge, the pressure gradually recovers as the flow transits to turbulence (the flow undergoes wake instability, shear layer transition-reattachment station), In addition, at relative high Reynolds numbers, the drag force almost does not change, however, the lift force coefficient gradually decreases with an increase in Reynolds number.

  • In the nuclear power plant, emergency core coolant system(ECCS) is furnished at reactor coolant system(RCS) in order to cool down high temperature water in case of emergency. However, in this coolant system, it occurs thermal stratification phenomena in case that there is the mixing of cooling water and high temperature water due to valve leakage in ECCS. This thermal stratification phenomena raises excessive thermal stresses at pipe wall. Therefore, this phenomena causes the accident that reactor coolant flows in reactor containment in the nuclear power plant due to the deformation of pipe and thermal fatigue crack(TFC) at the pipe wall around the place that it exists. Hence, in order to fundamental identification of this phenomena, it requires the experimental research of modeling test in the pipe flow that occurs thermal stratification phenomena. So, this paper models RCS and ECCS pipe arrangement and analyzes the mechanism of thermal stratification phenomena by measuring of temperature in variance with leakage flow rate in ECCS modeled pipe and Reynold number in RCS modeled pipe. Besides, results of this experiment is compared with computational analysis which is done in advance.

  • The crisis of energy gives rise to the growing concerns over continuing uncertainty in the energy market. Under these circumstances, there are also increasing interests on coals. In particular, Low Rank Coal (LRC) is receiving gradual attentions from green industry. But due to is high moisture content range from 30 - 60%, drying process has to be preceded before being utilized as power plant. In this study drying kinetics of LRC is induced by using a fixed-bed reactor. The drying kinetics was evaluated in from of the particle size, the inlet gas temperature, the drying time, the gas velocity, and the LID ratio. The consideration of the reynold's number was taken for correction of gas velocity, particle size and LID was taken for correction of reactor diameter, packing height of coal. As being seen as characteristic of drying coal, it can be found that fixed-bed reactor can contributed to active drying of free water. In this sense, it could be considered that phase boundary reaction is appropriate mechanism.
