A novel hybrid type encoder design for the position control with the high-resolution

  • The position control is very important in semiconductor manufacturing devices, precision machining tools, precision measuring instruments, etc. The accuracy of measurement for the distance in these devices affect on the performance of the whole devices. Therefore, in those precision instruments, a sensing device that can measure the distance of movement with high-precision resolution is required. In this paper, a novel hybrid (digital and analog) type encoder is proposed. It is shown that from several experiments, a high-resolution angular position measurement device can be designed with a low cost incremental encoder and a DSP controller.

  • A powerful general purpose image processing processor is developed using a high-speed DSP chip, TMS320C30. The image processing processor, compatible to the standard VME bus, is composed of VME bus interface unit, video rate image grabbing/coding unit, TMS320C30 interface unit and bank of high-speed SRAMs. The performance is evaluated experimentally with the general image processing algorithms and the results show that the developed processor is capable of high speed image processing.

  • In this paper, a controller for the linear motor with high speed and stiffness is implemented using SERCOS interface which is a real time communication protocol between the numerical controller(NC) and the motor driver. The proposed controller is mainly composed of current, speed, and position controller, which are designed using the 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device (EPM7128), and Intelligent Power Module(IPM) to enhance reliability and compactness of the system. The experimental results show the effective performance of the proposed controller for he linear motor with high speed and stiffness.

  • BLDCM(Brushless D.C. Motor) is widely used for industrial application because of high efficiency and high power density Especially, in servo system and home appliance, BLBCM is very useful due to high control performance and low acoustic noise. In this paper, 2.5HP rated BLDCM controller and drive was developed for tread mill application. The prototype BLDCM has 4 poles rotor and 24 slots stator. Ferrite was used as a rotor magnet due to the cost and temperature characteristic. For the stable operation of tread mill, over current and high temperature can be detected by the DSP controller. For the commutation signal, switching patterns from the sensorless circuit and hall sensor signal are used in the DSP controller.

  • In this paper, a study on the controller for high speed PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchro-nous Motor) is described. PMSM can be driven over 50,000 rpm because it has no brush and commutator structure. It also has less EMI noise and easy cooling structure compare to the other motors. The controller was designed to have a capability to drive 20kw, 42,000rpm high speed motor system. A senseless vector control method was studied based on d-q conversion theory to have a high driving efficiency. The control board was designed using TMS320C33 and the performance was verified by experimental results on driving the inverter and motor system.

  • It is important to analyse the frequency spectrum for the measurement of modulated signal, distortion, and noise. The frequency spectrum analysis is performed by the execution of Radix-2 DIT DFT i.e. FFT algorithm. The discrete input signal converted by A/D converter from the input signal in time domain is mathematically transformed to the frequency spectrum by FFT algorithm. In this study, we design the digital spectrum analyser by the hardware based on the TMS320F2812 DSP and AD9244 converter, and by the software based on the C28x S/W modules. We can timely analyse the frequency spectrum in mobile communication system by the digital frequency analyser based on the high performance DSP and S/W modules. This real-time analysing capability is the important performance in the internet-based mobile communication server system.

  • In this study, we propose a method of digital control to drive the vibrating gyroscope using electromagnetic-force. The gyroscope requires accurate vibration control and signal processing for high performance. Conventional PLL based analog controller is not only difficult to manufacture but also weak to outer environment such as temperatures, air pressures and etc. But digital controller using DSP can consistently maintain the cylinder vibration and perform digital signal processing regardless of disturbance. DSP's PWM function was utilized to control the vibration, and rotation-detecting algorithm was developed. Finally, the controller was verified by simulation and experiment using rotation-rate table.

  • In the high performance AC motor drive system, exact torque and speed control is required For exact torque and speed control, good current controller is prerequisite. In this paper, predictive current control scheme for PMSM is presented and implemented using DSP. Full digital speed controller for PMSM is constructed its usefulness is verified.

  • The Direct Drive Arm(DDA) is a SCARA typed direct drive manipulator with two degrees-of-freedom(DOF) using the direct drive motor of the NSK company. A controller system for the SCARA robot of DDA is designed using a DSP (TMS32Oc3O), which has the highest performance among the third DSP chips in the TI company. The design objective of the system is to implement dynamic control algorithms and neural control algorithms for real time learning which require a lot of calculations and large memory and have been tested only by simulations so far. The controller uses a DSP, a high speed D/A, 32-bit Counter and a large DRAM to implement advanced robot control algorithms.
