  • In mobile XML environments, the efficient synchronization technique is required to maintain the consistency of replicated XML data because the same data can be replicated between so many different XML documents. In this paper, we propose a message digest based synchronization technique to maintain the consistency of replicated data between client XML documents and a server XML database in mobile XML environments. The proposed an XML data synchronization technique(XSA) has the advantage of model generality aspect and storage space aspect by using the tuple-based message digest table to detect the data conflicts. The proposed technique can be applicable to the application requiring the consistency of replicated XML data without any restrictions in the heterogeneous(between hierarchical XML documents and relational XML databases) mobile environments.

  • Phase transition is not unique to solid state systems or homogeneous molecular systems but it is also observed in highly heterogeneous biological systems. Phase transition and phase separation in cells are recently being found to be central to many biological functions by temporarily and locally controlling the storage and exchange of certain proteins and RNAs. There are also clues suggesting them to be playing pivotal roles in the spatial organization of chromosomes into topological domains and its time-dependent control. Here we introduce early efforts to explain at the molecular level how the spatiotemporal organization of chromosomes are programmed and modulated by the sequence and chemical modifications of the DNA. Continuing works may provide a physical framework to understand the molecular level control of chromosome structure and dynamics that determine the epigenetic state and the fate of the cells.

  • A multitude of overlay network designs for resilient routing, multicasting, quality of service, content distribution, storage, and object location have been proposed. Overlay networks offer several attractive features, including ease of deployment, flexibility, adaptivity, and an infrastructure for collaboration among hosts. In this paper, we explore cooperation among co-existing, possibly heterogeneous, overlay networks. We discuss a spectrum of cooperative forwarding and information sharing services, and investigate the associated scalability, heterogeneity, and security problems. Motivated by these services, we design Synergy, a utility-based overlay internetworking architecture that fosters overlay cooperation. Our architecture promotes fair peering relationships to achieve synergism. Results from Internet experiments with cooperative forwarding overlays indicate that our Synergy prototype improves delay, throughput, and loss performance, while maintaining the autonomy and heterogeneity of individual overlay networks.

  • The progressive differentiation of interfascicular cambium from residual meristem in the first internode of Ginkgo biloba seedlings was elucidated by light and electron microscopy. The cells of residual meristem were small and homogeneous and heterogeneous in their arrangement but those of the adjacent cortex and pith were large and homogeneous. Some interprocambial residual meristem progressively became elongated and vacuolated during the process of the differentiation. In tangential section, residual meristem composed of long and short cells. The eventual interfascicular cambium had long fusiform initials and short ray initials. Storage materials in the cells progressively disappeared from the interprocambial residual meristem and were absent in early interfascicular cambium. Both the radial and tangential walls of cells of the interprocambial residual meristem were almost the same, but the radial wall became progressively thicker than the tangential wall during differentiation of interfascicular cambium. From these results, it is clear that interfascicular cambium is gradually differentiated from residual meristem.

  • Given the numbers of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices shipped every day, more and more users are relying on the cloud as the main driver for satisfying their computing needs, whether it is data storage, applications or infrastructure. Mobile cloud computing is simply cloud computing in which at least some of the devices involved are mobile. Each node is owned by a different user and is likely to be mobile. Using mobile hardware for cloud computing has advantages over using traditional hardware. These advantage include computational access to multimedia and sensor data without the need for large network transfer, more efficient access to data stored on other mobile devices and distributed ownership and maintenance of hardware. It is important to predict job execution time in mobile cloud computing because there are many mobile nodes with different capabilities. This paper analyzes the job execution time for mobile cloud computing in terms of network environment and heterogeneous mobile nodes using a mathematical model.

  • This paper presents a new object model, LOM(Lightweight Object Model) and an implementation method for the distributed trader in heterogeneous distributed computing environment including mobile network. Trader is third party object that enables clients to find suitable servers, which provide the most appropriate services to client in distributed environment including dynamic reconfiguration of services and servers. Trading service requires simpler and more specific object model than genetic object models which provide richer multimedia data types and semantic characteristics with complex data structures. LOM supports a new reference attribute type instead of the relationship, inheritance and composite attribute types of the general object oriented models and so LOM has simple data structures. Also in LOM, the modelling step includes specifying of the information about users and the access right to objects for security in the mobile environment and development of the distributed storage for trading service. Also, we propose and implementation method of the distributed trader, which integrates the LOM-information object model and the OMG (object Management Group) computational object model.

  • Metal-containing carbon nanocomposites have shown significance promise in the area of energy storage, heterogeneous catalysis and material science because of their morphology and combined properties. Phosphorus-doped carbon nanocomposites with gold nanoparticles were developed by applying a simple impregnation method and metal deposition technique. Gold-phosphorus supported carbon nanocomposites with two sized (25 and 170 nm) were prepared from economical petroleum pitch residue as the carbon source using an advanced silica template method. These nanocomposites will lead to the novel applications in the field of material science with the combined properties of gold, phosphorus and carbon. The newly prepared gold phosphorus supported carbon nanocomposites were fully characterized using a range of different physico-chemical techniques.

  • This paper describes recent development activities of the GENESIS code, which is a transport code for heterogeneous three-dimensional geometry, focusing on applications to reactor core analysis. For the treatment of anisotropic scattering, the concept of the simplified Pn method is introduced in order to reduce storage of flux moments. The accuracy of the present method is verified through a benchmark problem. Next, the iteration stability of the GENESIS code for the highly voided condition, which would appear in a severe accident (e.g., design extension) conditions, is discussed. The efficiencies of the coarse mesh finite difference and generalized coarse mesh rebalance acceleration methods are verified with various stabilization techniques. Use of the effective diffusion coefficient and the artificial grid diffusion coefficients are found to be effective to stabilize the acceleration calculation in highly voided conditions.

  • This paper describes the method of data synchronization among devices for personal cloud services. Existing data synchronization for mobile devices is based on a central server to mobile devices or a PC to a mobile device. However, the purpose of this paper is to share user data in heterogeneous environments, without depending on central server. This technology can be applied to synchronize personal data between a device and a personal cloud storage for personal cloud services. The ad hoc synchronization needs a sync agent service discovery module, a user authentication module, a network adapter, and an application data synchronization module. The method described in this paper is better than existing synchronization technology based on client-server in availability, performance, scalability quality attributes.
