  • Source : sources used by Qianghuo is Ostericum koreanum Maximowicz, Notopterygium incisum Ting and Notopterygium forbesii Boissier etc. in Korea and China. And we cirulate a Qianghuo dividing Nanqianghuo and Beiqianghuo. Thought source of Korea Qianghuo is different from china's we use a same name. And source of Beiqianghuo has not made clear yet. According to research accomplished 2002, we have to use Nanqianghuo producted at Jinbu in aspect of aspect. but, Beiqianghuo the outside form of Beiqianghuo similar to china so we think that we have to more make clear source of domestic Qianghuo, verify a source Beiqianghuo and re-establish about effects and functions of domestic Qianghuos. Culture : A term of culture is an nearly one year. so to product Qianghuo of good quality, we must plant directly in autumn or raise seedlings and transplant in spring. Processing : To protect turning to brown, Qianghuo are cirulate mostly as the original form without washing in water, To proteet crushing of Qianghuo when we cut off, Qianghuo were cut off after being soaked in water or steamed by heat. So when we wash and cut off, it has to be made processes which have no decreases of medical effects and be suggested a proper index which verify a medical effects. In summury, after harvesting Qianghuo the first washing $\rightarrow$ the first dry $\rightarrow$ selection $\rightarrow$ the second washing $\rightarrow$ the second dry $\rightarrow$ selection $\rightarrow$ cutting off $\rightarrow$ the third dry.

  • Now many sustitution and false articles is used in korea instead of mudanpi. To use mudanpi correctly, we will make a quilitative certificational plan of mudanpi to investigate all of lieraturea, records and documents. And we could reach conclusions as folloews. 1. Source Source of mudanpi is cortex of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews(Family:Ranunculaceae) in korea and china. It needs an attention to distinguish into because there is a substitute and a rank in china. 2. process We have to work before harvesting fresh roots is dry perfectly. If outer skin dried moisture a little, cut off outer skin vertically at sunny day, remove a heart and sever, immedietly dry. When working, we have to take care of because of easy discoloration with moisture. 3. Quality (1) Functional standards A diameter is large, it do not exist a heart of wood, a bark is thick and powdery. Section surface is light white color and rich odor with many light crystals. (2) Physicochemical stamdards We think that it needs to raise a contant of paeonol at all kinds of testing standards. A contant of paeonol is at least more than 2.5%. A part of wood indicate a heart of wood which has no medical effects, but is a relatively heavy part. So a standart of wood must be lowered sifnificantly less than 1.0%. It must be content of ash is less than 6.0%, Content of acid-nonsoluble ash is less than 1.0%. A fixed quantity of paeonol is more than 2.5%. Contens of heavy metal has to detect less than 30 ppm and there is no reminding agriculural medince.

To use chenpi correctly, we will make a quilitative certificational plan of chenpi to investigate all of lieraturea, records and documents. And we could reach conclusions as folloews. 1) Source In china source of Chen-pi is pericarp of citrus reticula Blanco(Family;rutaceae)and in korea source of Chen-pi is pericarp of citrus unshiu Markovich(Family;rutaceae). Though source of both countries are not same, it has no problems because of containing family plants and culture variants. 2) Harvesting and processing After the peel attained full growth, wash cleanly in water. And dry in shade or in low temporature at state of eliminating pericarp. 3) Quality (1) Functional standards Exocarp is soft and clear yellow with numerous oil sports. The less white mesocarp is the better. (2) Physicochemical standards We need to suggest new standards about hesperidin to various conditions by processing methods and storing time. The loss on drying is less than 13.5%. Ash content is less than 4.0%. A standard capacity of hesperidin is more than 4.0%. The content of heavy metal is less than 30 ppm. We can not detect reminding agricultural medicines.

To use gegen correctly, we will make a quilitative certificational plan of gegen to investigate all of lieraturea, records and documents. And we could reach conclusions as folloews. 1) Source As a source of gegen, we think all of Pueraria lobata Ohwi and Pueraria thomsonii Benth can be used in korea and china. 2) Harvesting time. According to a data, content of effective components is high when harvested in January and February. Though there is no problem because domestic harvesting and working time is between January and February, we think it need to sure well-founded datas. 3) Standars of goods According to cutting methods, gegen divide into 'jiaogegen' and 'piangegen' from users So there is no problem at cutting methods because it is not a affective factor. 4) Processing A processing method is a best important case in express quility of herb. According to a data, effective components of peeled gegen is much less than that of non-peeled geeen. A tested samples is non-peeled gegen at a researh, they received suitable judgments in all of items. Especially we got a result content of puerarin is much more than 2.0%. But they were not washed in water, it is a problem that there is bleaching effect by almost drying at a briquat. So a processing method is to wash in water with unavoidable turnning to brown, to prevent this grgrn must be dried in bulk at low temporature. And we think that content of puerarin must be looked upward.

  • Acupuncture has acupoints to treat, prevent, and reduce disease and to recover health by meridian guidance and reflexion. In the oriental medicine, meridian and acupoints are the foundations of treatment. Therefore, in the clinical treatment, we have to decide the therapeutic methods, meridian, acupoints, acupoint place, and acupoint match according to the disease. This study was designed to investigate the combined effects of ST36, ST37, and ST39 using electroacupuncture in rats. The present study was conducted to see the effects produced by combined electro-acupuncture(EA) at ST36, ST37, and ST39 on small intestine transportation in rats. EA(2 Hz, 5mA, pulse duration 1 ms) was applied for 30 minutes at acupoints of ST36, ST37, and ST39. The results are as follows. Compared to other acupoint place matches, ST36(left)+ ST37(right), ST36(left)+ST39(right), and ST37(left)+ST39 (right) were more effective than ST36(right)+ST37(left), ST36 (right)+ST39(left), and ST37(right)+ST39(left) for small intestine transporation(+ means acupoint place match). In terms of acupoint placement, ST36(left), ST37(right), and ST39(right) were more effective than the other sides for small intestine transporation. The data suggests that we have to consider acupoint place and acupoint match for acupucture therapy.

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 최근 임상에서 많이 사용하는 봉독약침액의 nitric oxide (NO)에 대한 소거효과를 분석하기 위하여 실행되었다. 방법 : 양성대조군으로 비타민과 실험군으로 국산 봉독과 미국산 봉독에 NO를 분비하는 S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP)을 투여한 후 NO의 농도를 540 nm 파장의 자외선 흡수량을 측정하여 평가하였다. 결과 : 국산 봉독은 $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$에서 SNAP 처리 1.5, 3, 6 및 12시간에 대조군 (100%)과 비교하여 각각 $86.7{\pm}1.5,\;103.8{\pm}1.9,\;88.3{\pm}2.9$85.6{\pm}3.2%$의 잔류 NO 농도를 보였고, 1.5, 6 및 12시간에서 유의한 NO 소거 효과를 나타냈다. 미국산 봉독에서는 각각 $74.0{\pm}2.2,\;66.5{\pm}10.9,\;86.1{\pm}2.8$$59.1{\pm}3.8%$로 모든 시간에서 유의한 결과를 보였다. 결론 : 이상의 봉독의 NO 소거효과는 봉독 약침액이 임상에서 동통, 종창, 등에 치료에 사용하는 작용기전의 하나로 사료된다.

  • Objective : The present study was carried out to investigate the preventive effect of Several Herb - Combined Prescription (SHP) on streptozotocin (STZ) - induced diabetes mellitus. Methods : SHP was given to mice with the combination of oral administration and herbal-acupuncture stimulation. Experimental diabetes was induced by the injection of STZ(50mg/kg) to the rat via the peritoneum The effect of SHP on STZ-induced diabetes was observed by measuring the serum level of insulin, glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol and lipid peroxides. Hepatic activities of catalase and reduced glutathione were examined. Results : SHP treatment protected them from the hyperglycemia. STZ induced increase of serum triglyceride lowered by SHP treatment. Conclusions : The SHP treatment showed protective effect on diabetic mouse model, and action mechanism of the effect was thought to be concerned with anti-oxidative stress.

  • This is a study on the methods of taking prescriptions in SANGHANRON (傷寒論), and after this, numbers of results have been obtained. SANGHANRON was written by Chang-Ki (張機) in the 2nd century, so it reflexes the usage of prescriptions of previous age indirectly. And gave affects on the methods of taking prescriptions to the oriental medicine doctors of next generation. Before Han-Dynasty (漢代), there were not so many publications connected with Oriental Medicine. Besides, some books couldn't hand down to next generation due to the gap of time and space. As time goes by, letters in medical books changed little by little, so contents connected with taking decoctions changed too. The effects of decoction and herb tea can be changed by the flexibility of methods of taking medicines, so we have to decide what kinds of taking methods should be taken and adapted to patients by the most effective way. There are many kind of methods of taking decocted prescriptions in SANGHANRON, so Chang-Ki selected the most appropriate method considering degree and position of disease and condition of patient. But nowadays, due to inconvenient procedure of taking medicines, some methos are not in common in clinical medicin. So this study was started to look back upon the changes of taking prescriptions and gave effort to find out the propriety of variation of taking prescriptions. In SANGHANRON, many kinds of taking prescriptions appeared from once a day to six times a day, except these, some prescriptions have to be taken little by little. These methods of taking prescriptions simplified as time pass by, but this change may give influence to the effect of medicine and finally we can't gain expected therapeutic value. So we have to distinguish the methods -though complicated and troublesome- in clinical medicine to make perfection more perfect in treating patients, and further studies have to be followed to prove the propriety of these methods.

Safflower Bud Dietary Prevents Ovariectomy-induced Osteoporosis in Rats

  • Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) seeds have long been clinically used in Korea to promote bone formation and prevent osteoporosis. In addition, the safflower buds (SB) were found to have more useful functional ingredients than safflower seed. Thus, we investigated the preventive effects of SB diet in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. The rats were divided into five groups; sham operated group, OVX alone group, OVX plus 17β-estradiol (E2 10 μg/kg, i.p.) and OVX plus SB diet feeding group (0.3% or 1%). Feeding of SB diet (0.3% or 3%) to OVX rats markedly increased trabecular formation in femur compared to OVX rats. Feeding of SB diet (0.3% or 3%) to OVX rats also decreased TRAP activity compared to OVX rats. These results suggest that SB diets have bone sparing effects by the decrease of osteoclast activity. We also observed that OVX rats fed with SB diet (0.3% or 3%) exhibited the decrease of calcium and phosphorus in serum compared to OVX-induced rats. Therefore, SB may be beneficial for the patients of osteoporosis, especially in postmenopausal women.

The Efficacy of Eriobotryae Folium Pharmacopuncture on Local Fat of High Fat Diet Induced Obesity Mice (비파엽약침이 고지방식이 유발 비만 생쥐의 국소부위지방에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study was designed to investigate the anti-obesity effects in local area adipose tissue using by pharmacopuncture of Eriobotryae Folium on mice fed high fat diet. Methods : Male ICR mouse were divided into three groups. Normal diet group (N), High-fat diet(HFD) group, HFD+E(pharmacopuncture of the Eriobotryae Folium) group for 8 weeks. HFD+E group was injected in the concentration of 50 mg/kg once a day for 4 weeks and every other day during the next 4 weeks. We measured body weight, food intake, absolute weight and relative weight in the liver and adipose tissue. Also, we analyzed hematological levels and histopathological changes on adipose tissue. Results : 1. We observed no difference in food intake among three groups. 2. HFD+E group significantly decreased body weight gain and absolute weight and relative weight in the liver and adipose tissue compared with HFD group. 3. Blood AST and ALT were no differences among the experiment groups. However, HFD group was significantly increased higher TG, TC, HDL and LDL than in N group and HDL/LDL ratio was remarkably decreased. On the other hand, HFD+E group was significantly decreased in obesity markers and HDL/LDL ratio was remarkably increased. 4. Levels of adiponectin in serum of HFD+E group was remarkably increased compared with those of HFD group. 5. HFD group was significantly decreased compared with N group in adipocyte number. Compared with the HFD group, HFD+E group was displayed a significant increase by adipocyte number. Conclusions : We suggest that pharmacopuncture of the Leaves of Eriobotrya japonica can play the anti-obesity effects in local area adipose tissue.
