ICR 마우스를 이용한 소핵시험을 통한 TA 약침의 안전성 평가 (Toxicity Evaluation of TA, a Pharmacopuncture Medicine, in an in Vivo Micronucleus Test)

  • Objectives : TA, a polyherbal extract, typically is used for pharmacopuncture therapy on patients with traffic accident-related injuries and musculoskeletal diseases. This study was performed to evaluate the safety of the TA extract, using a micronucleus test. Methods : The dose range and sampling time were first established. An in vivo micronucleus test was then performed to determine the induction of micronuclei in mouse bone marrow cells after a single intramuscular administration of TA to 7-week-old ICR mice (0.2 ml/animal, at 24 hours post-dosing). Results : The incidence of micro-nucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs) in PCEs in the TA group was similar to that in the negative-control group, while that in the positive-control group was significantly greater. The positive- and negative-control groups did not differ in the ratio of PCEs to total erythrocytes. Conclusions : Our toxicity study indicates that the TA extract does not induce micronucleus formation in mouse bone marrow cells.

해백(薤白)의 기원에 관한 문헌적 고찰 (Bibliographic study about the origin of Allii Macrostemi Bulbus)

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the origin and characteristics of Allii Macrostemi Bulbus. Methods: Bibliographies on Allii Macrostemi Bulbus that focused on the origin of the material were examined. Based on this analysis, an inventory was prepared and the characteristics of the original material are presented. Results: Korean and foreign literature were reviewed to prepare an inventory, and Based on these results, the state of plants either currently cultivated or distributed as medicines, , and are summarized. 1. The origin of Allii Macrostemi Bulbusis the scaly stem of Allii macrozoon Bunge or Allii bakeri Regel. 2. The current white water mark in circulation is the scaly stem of the sandalae Allii macromoleon Bunge. 3. Scilla sinensis(Lour.) Merr. is. 4. The properties of Scilla sinensis(Lour.) Merr. are cool and bitter, healing the forests, mowing the ointment, stopping the oxen, and curing the absence of distractions and stuffy symptoms and removal of the placenta after childbirth. Conclusions: The origin of Allii Macrostemi Bulbusis the scaly stem of Allii macrozoon Bunge or Allii bakeri Regel.

담미(淡味)의 음양(陰陽) 특성에 대한 고찰(考察) (A Study on the Yin-Yang Characteristics of Bland Taste)

  • Objectives : This paper aims to examine the Yin-Yang characteristics of bland taste. Methods : Medicinals including bland taste were searched in herbology textbooks and mainly in the Bencaogangmu, of which major discourses were analyzed to examine the Yin-Yang characteristics of bland taste. Results & Conclusions : Most medicinals with bland taste were sweet-bland-cold, holding properties of cooling heat, stimulating urination and detoxification. These properties could be explained in relation to the Triple Burner's metabolism of Qi and fluids, as they stimulate perspiration and urination, improving the flow of fluids which in turn supports production of Original Qi, by working on the TB's Qi circulation system. In the bland taste discourse, it was understood that bland taste moves the Qi system and produces fluids, by first ascending then descending. Zhudanxi and the Neijing have opposing views on whether bland taste is Yin or Yang, but both saw blandness to have both Yin and Yang qualities. Characteristics of the bland taste could be better understood in relation to the Triple Burner. The phrase 'bland is attached to sweet taste[淡附于甘]' refers to the likeliness between the two tastes in that bland taste has the Central Earth qualities, integrating others and concealing itself in its blandness, its taste unspecific, mild and unstimulating thus communicating the Qi within the entire Triple Burner from Upper to Middle to Lower, as does sweet taste.

COVID-19 mRNA 백신 접종 이후 악화된 건선 환자의 한의 치료 증례보고 (A Case Report on the Treatment of Korean Medicine in Psoriasis Patients Who Have Deteriorated Since COVID-19 mRNA Vaccination)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report one case of Korean medical treatment on a patient with psoriasis which had deteriorated since COVID-19 mRNA vaccination. Methods : A patient with psoriasis was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion. Symptoms after vaccination were considered the main criteria for treatment. PASI, DLQI, VAS, and pictures were used as evaluation tools for psoriasis. Results : After treatment, the patient showed improvements in PASI, DLQI and VAS scores. PASI changed from 16 to 0, DLQI changed from 17 to 0, and VAS changed from 8 to 0. Conclusions : The findings of this case report suggest that Korean medicine may be an effective option for treating psoriasis after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination.

『상한론(傷寒論) 오수유탕(吳茱萸湯)의 임상연구 분석 (A Review Study on the researches of Osuyu-tang)

  • Objectives : Osuyu-tang of Shanghanlun have historically been proved for clinical validity and stability in the Korean Medicine. It is necessary to review the clinical fields of application, and to review the conformity with the old texts. Methods : As of October 20, 2022, clinical research papers on Osuyu-tang were searched in RISS, Naver, KISS, PUBMED, and Science Direct. The searched articles were classified by clinical subject, and the contents were reviewed by year. Results : As of Oct 20, 2022, the present study looked up thirteen papers. The 13 clinical research papers could be classified into 6 chronic headaches which includes migraine, 2 digestive diseases, 5 skin diseases and 1 restless leg syndrome by subject. Conclusion : As a result of analyzing 13 papers, clinical research achievements on the nervous system and digestive system diseases implied by the provisions in Shanghanlun were accumulating. However, case-level reports on skin diseases require more advanced research in the future.

Immunoactivity-Enhancing Effect of Fermented Samultang Porridge in an Animal Model of Cyclophospahmide-Induced Immunodeficiency

  • Recently, as a health problem of the elderly in an aging society, the risk of nutritional imbalance and weakening of immunity due to deterioration of masticatory function has been mentioned. In order to solve this problem, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of cyclophosphamide (CPA)-induced immunosuppression in mice induced by fermented samultang (FST) porridge on the markers related to immune activity function. ICR Mouse was divided into 6 groups of 7 animals each. Experimental groups were set as normal control group, CPA-administration group, positive control group, and FST-administration experimental group (0.25%, 0.5%, 1.0%). In groups except for the normal control group, 100 µL of CPA dissolved in 0.9% NaCl at a concentration of 150 mg/kg was injected twice at the start of the experiment and after 3 days to induce immunosuppression. As a result of analyzing the cell proliferation capacity of splenocytes, all B and T cells decreased in the CPA-administered group and increased in a concentration-dependent manner in the FST-administered group. In addition, IgA measured to evaluate the effect of improving immunity showed high values in medium and high concentration FST (P<0.05). These results can be expected as an effective solution to improve the nutritional imbalance of the elderly.

유방암세포에서 광금전초 추출물의 암전이 억제 효과 (Extracts of Desmodii Herba Inhibits of TPA-induced invasion in MCF-7 Human Breast Carcinoma Cells)

  • It is well known that Desomodii Herba (DH) has an effect to eliminate dampness, relieve jaundice and to clear away toxic material, relieve swelling in Korean Medicine. However, the effect of DH on breast cancer invasion is unknown. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of DH extracts (DHE) on 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) expression and cell invasion, as well as the molecular mechanisms involved in MCF-7, human breast cancer cells. DHE inhibits TPA-induced MMP-9 protein and mRNA expressions in a dose-dependent fashion. DHE also inhibited the TPA-induced transcriptional activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-${\kappa}B$). These results indicate that DHE-mediated inhibition of TPA-induced MMP-9 expression and cell invasion involves the suppression of NF-${\kappa}B$ pathway in MCF-7 cells.

HPLC를 이용한 봉약침의 주요 성분에 관한 연구 (A Study on Major Components of Bee Venom Using HPLC)

  • This study was designed to study on major components of various Bee Venom(Bee Venom by electrical stimulation in Korea; K-BV I, Bee Venom by Microwave stimulation in Korea; K-BV II, 0.5mg/ml, Fu Yu Pharmaceutical Factory, China; C-BV, 1mg/ml, Monmouth Pain Institute, Inc., U.S.A.; A-BV) using HPLC(High performance liquid chromatography). The results were summarized as follows : 1. HPLC method is useful for analysis of Bee Venom when solution rate is above 1:4000. 2. Analysis of Apamin using HPLC, the Retention time was 8.7min, and standard measurement curve was a function of y=4E+06x+21245. 3. Analysis of Melittin using HPLC, the Retention time was 29.0 min, and standard measurement curve was a function of y=4E+06x+23015. 4. Concentration of Melittin was about 297times than Apamin in K-BV I, and about 329times in K-BV II at same 1:500 solution rate, abnormally about 12 times in C-BV at 1:4000 solution rate. 5. Chinese Bee Venom using HPLC, the point from 5 to 7min(Retention time) showed a big extraordinary peak. These data from the study can be applied to establish the standard measurement of Bee Venom and prevent pure bee venom from mixing of another components. I think it is desirable to study more about safety of Bee Venom as time goes by.

  • 1. 청계산에 분포하는 유관속식물 중 본초자원을 중심으로 1995년 4월부터 1995년 7월까지의 본초조사에서 빈용(頻用)본초가 102종류, 유용(有用)본초가 104종류, 기타(基他)본초 52종류로 조사 되었다. 2. 빈용(頻用)본초는 해표약(解表藥) 9종, 청열약(淸熱藥) 23종, 사하약(瀉下藥) 2종, 거풍습약(祛風濕藥) 12종, 방향화습약(芳香化濕藥) 2종, 이수삼습약(利水渗濕藥) 6종, 온이약(溫裏藥) 1종, 이기약(理氣藥) 2종, 소식약(消食藥) 1종, 지혈약(止血藥) 7종, 활혈거어약(活血祛瘀藥) 9종, 화담지해평천약(化痰止咳喘藥) 11종, 안신약(安神藥) 2종, 보익약(補益藥) 10종, 수삽약(收澁藥) 3종, 용토약(涌吐藥) 1종, 외용약(外用藥) 1종으로 효용 17분류에서 102종류가 관찰되었다. 3. 유용(有用)본초 및 기타(基他)본초에 대하여 약용자원의 개발과 활용 확대의 필요성이 있으며 이에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 4. 조사지역의 개발이 가속화 되면서 자연의 훼손이 증가하고 있으며, 일부 본초는 무분별한 남획으로 훼손되어 이에 대한 보호가 요망된다.

청영금음(淸營金飮)이 자유산소라디칼과 염증매개인자에 미치는 영향 (Anti-inflammatory Effects of New Herbal Formula Cheongyeoungkeumyeum)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the anti-inflammatory effectiveness of Cheongyeoungkeumyeum(CYK) including seven herbal medicines of that major effectiveness is to clear heat, to relieve fire toxicity and to clear damp-heat. To evaluate anti-inflammatory effectiveness of CYK, we measured the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS), nitric oxide(NO) cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and in TNF-${\alpha}$ LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells. Cell viability was determined by MTT assay. The concentrations of ROS and relative level of NO were measured with DPPH assay and Griess reagent, respectively. COX-2 and TNF-${\alpha}$ were detected by enzyme immuno assay(EIA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). As a result, we found that CYK suppressed LPS-induced ROS and NO production in a dose-dependent manner. Also CYK significantly inhibited LPS-induced COX-2 activity and the release of TNF-${\alpha}$. These results indicate that the CYK may have an anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of various inflammatory disease.
