Objectives: The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of herbal medicine on Chemo-Radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. Methods: Electronic databases were used to search for studies published through 10 years until October 2022, and a randomized controlled study was conducted to evaluate efficacy of herbal medicine on chemo-radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. Study quality was assessed using the Cochran's risk bias tool. Results: Two-hundred and three articles were initially searched, and 11 studies (head and neck cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer etc. undergoing radio-chemotherapy were included in analysis. The effect of herbal medicine on chemo-radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis, 9 studies reported that herbal medicine was more effective than the placebo group or conventional treatment. One study reported that the effect of the herbal compound treatment group was similar to that of the conventional herbal medicine, and one study reported that there was no difference in effect between the two herbal medicines and the group without treatment. Conclusion: This study suggests that herbal medicine effectively relieves the symptoms of chemo-radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. However, there is limited evidence that herbal medicine may relief chemo-radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis, so further investigation is needed.
Objectives: This study was performed to analyze randomized controlled trial, which studied the effect of herbal medicine treatment on Antiphospholipid antibody positive recurrent abortion. Methods: We searched for randomized controlled trial of last 20 years based on Antiphospholipid antibody positive recurrent abortion and herbal medicine. The paper search was conducted through 7 online databases on July 16, 2022. Results: 9 studies were selected after selection and exclusion criteria. 5 studies compared combined treatment of herbal and western medicine, with western medicine alone. 4 studies compared herbal medicine alone with western medicine. Comparing with control group, the treatment group showed much improvement on conversion rate of anti-phospholipid antibodies, serum hCG and progesterone levels, pregnancy duration or fertility rates, and various symptoms. Conclusions: In this study, we found out benefit of herbal medicine with Antiphospholipid antibody positive recurrent abortion. For reliable evidence, further research is needed to establish safety of herbal medicines, standardize symptom criteria and specify the treatment course.
Objectives: The purpose of this research was to find out the efficacy of Castanea crenata Inner Shell (CCIS) distilled herbal medicine on the skin by comparing the difference effect between only simple distilled water and the CCIS distilled herbal medicine application after MTS (microneedle therapy system) treatment. Methods: The present author performed once a week and total 4 times of MTS treatment. The treatment time took about 5~10 minutes and the depth of the needle was adjusted according to the participant's skin condition. In the control group, simple distilled water was applied after MTS and in the experimental group, CCIS distilled herbal medicine was applied. One week after each treatment, the change of skin condition was measured. Two weeks after the end of the clinical trial, the skin condition was checked again. Results: In the case of the test group, there was a significant decrease in pore size and there was a significant increase in U-zone oil, skin tone and elasticity. The test group using distilled herbal medicine showed a significant effect on facial skin compared to the control group using only simple distilled water. Conclusion: Distilled herbal medicine showed an effective action on facial skin. In the case of CCIS distilled herbal medicine, it was found to have a significant effect on U-zone oil content, skin tone, pores, and skin elasticity.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness and safety of herbal medicine treatment for treating hyperthyroidism. Methods: We searched for randomized controlled trials of Hyperthyroidism treated with herbal medicine, published from January 2016 to May 2021, through electronic database such as Pubmed, EMBASE, China Academic Journal (CAJ). Interventions and results of the selected clinical studies were analyzed. Results: The 25 randomized controlled trials were finally included according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Treatment group was treated with herbal medicine alone in 2 studies, and with herbal medicine and conventional medicine in 23 studies. Control group was treated with conventional medicine. Outcome measures are total efficacy rate, thyroid function test, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, liver function test, recurrence rate, etc. Prunellae Spica (夏枯草) (60%) was the most frequently used herb in herbal medicine treatment. In all of 25 studies, treatment group was more effective and safer for hyperthyroidism than the control group. Conclusions: This study indicates that herbal medicine treatment alone or combined with conventional medicine treatment could be helpful in improving the therapeutic effect on hyperthyroidism and reducing side effects as well.

Objectives : This study aims to evaluate the add-on effect of herbal bath combined with acitretin in patients with psoriasis. Methods : We searched randomized controlled trials(RCTs) reporting the effect of herbal bath and acitretin combined treatment for psoriasis in 10 electronic databases from their inception to January 2023. Study collection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment were performed by two independent researchers. Data synthesis and risk of bias evaluation was conducted using Revman 5.4. Results : Ten RCTs with 1,008 subjects were included. Herbal bath and acitretin combined treatment group showed higher average total effective rate than acitretin alone group(RR 1.39; 95% CI: 1.15-1.68, P=0.0006, I2 =0%). Herbal bath and additional treatments such as phototherapy(NB-UVB) and oral herbal medicine, combined with acitretin group also showed higher average total effective rate than acitretin alone group(RR 1.81; 95% CI: 1.47-2.22, P<0.00001, I2 =43%). Herbal bath and phototherapy(NB-UVB) combined with acitretin group also showed higher average total effective rate than acitretin alone group(RR 1.51; 95% CI: 1.18-1.93, P=0.0009, I2 =0%). The overall risk of bias of the included studies was unclear or of high risks. Conclusions : This review showed that the add-on of herbal bath combined with acitretin treatment could be more effective than acitretin alone treatment in patients with psoriasis. However, because of few included studies, heterogeneity between studies, and insufficient quality of included studies, further well-designed RCTs are needed to confirm the add-on effect of herbal bath on psoriasis.

In all of eight studies, herbal medicine treatment was effective for dermatosis gravidarum. Conclusion: This study shows that herbal medicine could be helpful in treating dermatosis gravidarum. However, in order to consolidate the foundation of herbal medicine treatment for dermatosis gravidarum, more case reports and high-quality clinical researches are needed.
Objectives: This study was performed to review the recent clinical research trends of the effects of herbal medicine treatment on chronic pancreatitis in China. Methods: We searched for clinical studies about chronic pancreatitis from the China Academic Journal (CAJ) of the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from January 1, 2005, to August 1, 2016. Results: Thirty-seven papers were selected from 126 studies. The most commonly used herbal prescriptions included Bupleuri Radix (柴胡), Paeoniae Radix Alba (白芍藥), Glycyrrhizae Radix (甘草), Scutellariae Radix (黃芩), Aucklandiae Radix (木香), and Rhei Rhizoma (大黃). Qingyi-tang (淸胰湯) was the most frequently used herbal prescription. Clinical symptoms, physicochemical examination, radiological examination, and relapse were used to evaluate the treatments. The effective treatment rate was 77.5-100%, and effectiveness in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control group in 15 papers (p<0.05). Conclusions: Herbal medicine treatment has been shown as an effective treatment for chronic pancreatitis. In the future, more scientifically designed clinical studies should be performed to prove the effectiveness of herbal medicine treatment on chronic pancreatitis. These research results can be utilized in other clinical studies and in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of Chinese clinical research in the last 5 years of Chinese herbal medicine treatment for anorexia in children, and to find ways to utilize the diagnostic criteria and herbal medicine treatment for children who have anorexia in Korea. Methods The authors searched literatures using China National Knowledge Infrastructure published from January 1, 2015 to June 18, 2019.
