Objectives: In this case report, we will show the effectiveness of herbal medicine with neurofeedback treatment on social phobia. Methods: First, we diagnosed the patient by interview and questionnaire as having social phobia and suffering from anxiety, shaking and palpitation in public places and fear to meet new people. Beside, we examined the pattern of brainwaves by QEEG-8 system. Second, we treated the patient by herbal medicine with neurofeedback treatment for 4 months. Then we conducted new assessments by SCL-90-R, BDI, BAI and QEEG-8 system. Results: The patient's psychological and physiological symptoms were significantly improved. Conclusions: Herbal medicine with neurofeedback can be effective in the treatment of social phobia. Especially, it can be helpful to improve the patient's sensitivity to its physiological symptoms.

Objective : This study was carried out to investigate the progress of bilateral simultaneous facial palsy and the effect of Hominis Placenta herbal-acupunture and the other oriental medical therapies. Method : We used two methods to research the progress of disease. 1. Diagnosis - Facial muscle test, Taste test, Hearing test, Photographies, Lab-finding 2. Treatment - Acupuncture, Herbal-acupuncture, Electroacupuncture, Herb-med Edema rate, Pain endurance, WBC, Hemoglobin, Platelet, Total protein, Albumin, Globulin, RA factor, CRP Results : The onset of Rt. facial palsy was earlier than Lt. facial palsy 3days. The reaction on the treatment of Rt. facial palsy was more dull than Lt. facial palsy. In terms of treatment period, Rt. facial palsy was very longer than Lt. facial palsy. Conclusion : According to the above results, we discoveried that Hominis Placenta herbal-acupunture and the other oriental medical therapies had good influence on the bilateral simultaneous facial palsy. In the future, we should endeavor to know influence between Rt. and Lt. face in case of bilateral simultaneous Bell's palsy.

Objectives : This study is to evaluate the efficacy of Hominis Placenta Herbal Acupuncture(HPA) on dysmenorrhea. Methods : Volunteers of fourteen subjects who used to feel pains in menstrual period were employed to answer the questionnaire. Subjects were divided into two groups Hominis Placenta Herbal Acupuncture(HPA) treatment group(Sample Group) and Normal Saline(N/S) treatment group(Control Group). HPA and N/S were injected on the Cheonchu(ST25), Gwanwon(CV4), Joksamni(ST36) and Hyeolhae(SP10) acupuncture points. Subjects were treated depending on menstrual period, two times a weeks, in total four times after ovulation cycle. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(D.I.T.I.) was taken and Visual Analog Scale(VAS) was examined before and after each treatment. Results : The VAS score of Sample Group were decreased significantly compared to that of Control Group.(p<0.05) The changes of difference of abdominal mean temperature of Control Group and Sample Group were significancy. HPA therapy reduced difference of right and left abdomial thermal temperature more than N/S therapy in dysmenorrheic patients. Conclusion : The Hominis Placenta Herbal Acupuncture therapy may be good effects on the Dysmenorrhea.

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of feeding leaf positions on the growth, net formation of fruits, and occurrence of leaf yellowing symptoms (LYS) in muskmelon plants. Plants having five or ten more leaves above the fruit-bearing node produced the greater biomass than those of plants having equal or five less leaves above the fruit-bearing node. The number of leaves above the fruit-bearing node also influenced on the occurrence of LYS. The number of plants with LYS decreased as the number of leaves borne on the nodes above the fruit-bearing node increased. The LYS infected ratio of BL-5 treatment were the greatest, while fruit weight of BL+5 treatment were the greatest among all the tested treatments. In addition, the net formation of BL-5 treatment showed the poorest. Results indicated that maintaining the higher number of leaves over the fruit-bearing node might be feasible the practical method for coping physiological damages from yellowing symptoms.

Objective: Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), one of the gut peptide hormones, has an action to induce satiety, and its effect as an anti-obesity agent is known. Recently, it has been reported that many herbal medicines have an anti-diabetic effect through inhibition of DPP-4 enzyme and inducing of GLP-1 secretion. It is therefore suggested that GLP-1 may be effective for the treatment of obesity. In this study, we report a case of male obese patients treated with herbal medicine as a GLP-1 secretagogue. Methods: In this study, the patient took a fixed prescription of herbal medicine for 10 weeks and recorded his weight at each visit. Results: This prescription produced significant weight loss (BMI loss>5%). In the follow-up period after two weeks, the trend of weight loss was observed continuously. Conclusion: This prescription can be an alternative to ephedra herba-based obesity treatment.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to diversify the interpretation of formulas used for insomnia treatment by searching and analyzing herbal combinations in formulas used for insomnia treatment in Korean medicine. Methods : Frequency analysis was conducted on herbal combinations of 255 formulas related with insomnia, along with network analysis using Netminer 4.2.1. Results : This study has found herbal combinations used frequently in Korean medicine formulas used for insomnia treatment, and a result of network analysis composed of four communities. Each community consisted of herbs in affiliation of Yookmijihwangtang(六味地黃湯) and Samultang(四物湯), Bohyulchunghwatang(補血淸火湯) and Ondamtang(溫膽湯), Jungjihwan(定志丸) and Sanjointang(酸棗仁湯). Conclusions : This study could help in assisting researchers to diversify formula analysis in future studies. Moreover, the herbal combination in insomnia formulas could be used to search for insomnia formulas in other databases or creating a new prescription.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of herbal medicine in children's growth and to report the children's expectation. Methods 171 children visited the department of Pediatrics, Kyung-Hee Oriental Medical Hospital from June 2009 to December 2009 were studied. They were treated more than 6 months and they visited our clinic more than 3 times. Every time when patients visited our hospital, their height, body weight and obesity degree was examined using DS-102(dszenix, Seoul). Also, height percentile of first and the last visit was measured, and those were compared by the Growth Statistics Curve made by the Korean Association of Pediatrics, 2007. Results and Conclusions The mean growth of total children increased by 4.42 percent; the increased percent for boys was 4.17 and that of girls was 5.00. Herbal medical treatment helped growth in children who took medicine for growth retardation problem. Plus, majority of parents who visited the department of Pediatrics, Oriental Medical Hospital satisfied with the service and their children's height. Although thinking genetic factor is important for their height, but they think that herbal medical treatment help the growth with changing eating habit.

Purpose : Generally dermatitis is treated by corticosteroids, antihistamines ect, but the use of these drugs may affect pregnant women adversely. In this case Oriental medical therapy can be very useful. The purpose of this study is to report clinical management of dermatitis patients during pregnancy by oriental medicine including Hwa-acupuncture and herbal-combined extraction. Methods : We experienced two cases of dermatitis patient during pregnancy. In the beginning of treatment, they had severe itching, burning sensation, bulls, papule. We teated them with Hwa-acupuncture, herbal-combined extraction. Results : After quite short oriental treatment including Hwa-acupuncture and herbal-combined extraction, the symptoms of patients are remarkable alleviated. Conclusion : We think that many case of dermatitis during pregnancy can be managed effectively by Hwa-acupuncture and herbal-combined extraction. If we make more studies about disease under pregnancy condition, it will bring the high satisfaction of patient and the elevation of treatment rate.

As the IT technology develops there is a service on internet in which the herbal treatments from medicinal classics can be found in a form of a database. If an assay, and a verification on individual informations on materia medica and the herbal treatments from medicinal classics is established, it would be an enormously efficient asset for the formation of new treatment as well as interpreting the basic information on the efficacy of a treatment. If asp.net is used to make such a system, the user can have access to the informations on materia medica and its treatment without having to setting up a separate system, and especially the user can attain visual information on the genealogy of the herbal treatments in its formation. However, there is a need to develop a more efficient program in terms of organizing the informations on herbs and herbal treatments.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of combination of herbal medicine and conventional treatment on preterm labor patient at high risk for preterm delivery. Methods: The patient in this case was 33-year-old female with gravid 3, para 2, abortus 1. She experienced 1 preterm birth 5 years ago. She visited our clinic with lower abdominal pain at 14th gestational week. We treated her by herbal medicine. She also take vaginal progesterone from 19th gestational week to 34th gestational week. Results: She maintained her pregnancy until giving a birth by cesarean section at 38th gestational week. No adverse effects were not observed among mother or infant. Conclusions: Combination of herbal medicine and conventional treatment is effective on preterm labor patient at high risk for preterm delivery.
