Frequently occurring accidents in korean medical acts fall into some categories such as medical treatment of acupuncture${\cdot}$moxibustion${\cdot}$cupping, korean herbal medication, korean medical physical therapy, wrong diagnosis. Frequently occurring accidents include these cases. Infection due to improper treatment process of acupunctrue or wet-cupping ; skin-burns caused by moxibustion, infrared therapy or haet therapy ;toxic hepatitis or kidney dysfunction induced by herbal medication ; progression of disease or missing of opportunity of timely transfer because of wrong diagnosis. It will prevent medical accidents to a great extent for korean medical doctors to have scientific diagnostic techniques and lab. test results at hand in korean medical institutions.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to report a case of one infant patient diagnosed as Sik-Gan (食癎) who was treated by Korean medical treatment. Methods We diagnosed an infant patient as Sik-Gan (食癎) and treated him with herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxa and chuna therapy while correcting his eating habit. To measure the degree of the patient's progress, the frequency and exact symptoms of seizure events, and gastrointestinal symptoms were recorded. Results Korean medical treatment reduced the patient's the frequency of seizure, and improved gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusions A patient who has past medical history of epileptic seizures, unhealthy eating habits and gastrointestinal malfunctions is prone to have a specific form of seizure called the Sik-Gan (食癎). In this report, we have proven that variety of Korean medical treatment can considerably be effective in preventing recurring seizure events and improving the patients' gastrointestinal symptoms.

Method : The authors observed patients by the House-Brackmann grade system and by the Scale of Peitersen for operated acupuncture treatment, herbal treatment and herbal acupuncture. Result : After the treatment, the House-Brackmann grades were decreased in two cases of three and the Scale of Peitersen grades were decreased in two cases of three. Conclusion : These result suggest that early admission with Korean medicine treatment could be more effective in recovery of recurrent peripheral facial nerve palsy with sequelae.

Methods : 5 female patients who had a hysterectomy within a year were treated with Korean Medicine concluding acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping therapy, herbal bath. We evaluated the thermographic differences by checking Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(D.I.T.I.) at CV17(膻中), CV4(關元), ST3(巨髎), BL15(心兪), and BL23(腎兪). Results : In consequence of Korean Medicine Treatment for 3 weeks, thermographic differences between CV17(膻中) and CV4(關元), ST3(巨髎) and CV4(關元), BL15(心兪), and BL23(腎兪) tended to decrease. Conclusion : After Korean Medicine treatment, thermographic differences between upper body and lower body tended to decrease cause shangrexiahanzheng(上熱下寒證) made by hysterectomy became moderated.

  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) encompasses a vast array of physical and psychological symptoms. Of the herbal supplements mentioned for remedy PMS symptoms, chamomile used as an effective herbal medicine. The overall purpose of this review was to determine the efficacy of chamomile on the treatment PMS. An extensive research review using Web of Science, the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register database, PubMed, Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM), CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Psych INFO, Social Science Research Network, SID, Google Scholar, Iran Doc, Magiran and Iran Medex. Eligible studies were identified from English and Persian databases, published between 1990 and 2019. Studies were screened independently by two researchers who performed the data extraction. Of Twenty-seven studies identified, Eight RCTs met our inclusion criteria. Chamomile has been used to treat PMS relief because of therapeutic properties such as anti-inflammatory effects (Chamazulene and α-Bisabolol); anti-spasmodic effects (Apigenin, Quercetin, and Luteolin, Metoxicomarin, Matrisin, and Phytoestrogens); anti-anxiety effects (Glycine, Flavonoid). The results of this review show that Chamomile is effective for the treatment of PMS. Based on these results, we believe that Chamomile can be used as good herbal medicine to treat in women with PMS.

  • Objectives : Chronic prostatitis is a common disease among adult men, yet it is very difficult to diagnosis and treat. This study was designed to evaluate the clinical effects of herb medicine, acupuncture, and herbal acupuncture therapy on chronic prostatitis. Methods : We investigated 15 chronic prostatitis patients with NIH-CPSI (National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index). They were treated with herb medicine, acupuncture, and herbal acupuncture therapy. Results : After the treatment, NIH-CPSI decreased significantly. As the period of treatment for prostatitis was longer, the cure rate was higher respectively. Conclusions : These findings suggest that oriental medical treatment for chronic prostatitis may promote medical cure.

  • Objectives: Genital herpes is common disease in gynecological field. Although various treatment options such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion are used in genital herpes, there is not enough evidence about the treatment options. This study is to prove the efficacy of oriental medicine on genital herpes by investigating papers and suggest direction of future research. Method: We searched for papers which had both genital herpes and oriental medicine from Cochrane, Pubmed, Scopus, CNKI, Oasis, Korean traditional knowledge portal, Journal of Korean Obstetrics & Gynecology up to November 2017. After searching papers, we classified according to the study design and analyzed selected studies. Results: Sixteen papers were finally selected. Four papers are laboratory studies with Hartley guinea pig with recurrent genital herpes. Twelve papers are clinical trials which includes one single group trial, one controlled trial, ten randomized controlled trials. All of the studies have shown that herbal medicine is effective in improving the symptom of genital herpes and decreasing the recurrent rate of genital herpes and also has immunoregulatory effect. Conclusions: This study shows that herbal medicine could be a good treatment option for genital herpes. However, more well-designed clinical studies and laboratory studies will be needed.

  • Stevia rebaudiana is a traditional herb used as a sweetener in Brazil and Paraguay as well as Korea and China. This study investigated the efficacy of Stevia rebaudiana methanol extract (SRE) to protect cells against the mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis in hepatocyte. To determine the effects of SRE on oxidative stress, we used the human derived hepatocyte cell line, HepG2 cell. Treatment of arachidonic acid (AA)+iron in HepG2 cells synergistically amplified cytotoxicity, as indicated by the excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial permeability transition by fluorescence activated cell sorter (FACS) and immunoblot analysis. Treatment with SRE protected hepatocytes from AA+iron-induced cellular toxicity, as shown by alterations in the protein levels related with cell viability such as procaspase-3. SRE also prevented the mitochondrial dysfunction induced by AA+iron, and showed anti-oxidant effects as inhibition of $H_2O_2$ production and GSH depletion. Moreover, we measured the effects of SRE on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a key regulator in determining cell survival or death. Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC), a direct downstream target of AMPK. SRE increased phosphorylation of ACC, and prevented the inhibition of ACC phosphorylation by AA+iron. These results indicated that SRE has the ability to protect cells against AA+iron-induced $H_2O_2$ production and mitochondrial impairment, which may be mediated with AMPK-ACC pathway.
