Clinical Report of One Patient with the Vascular dementia by Sesimtang mixed Gujuntag (세심탕합거전탕(洗心湯合祛癲湯) 투여를 통한 혈관성 치매 환자 치험 1례)

  • Dementia is a syndrome charaterized by a decline in multiple fields of cognitive domains. This is the case of a vascular dementia patient with disorientation, memory impairment and mental disorders. The patient was treated with herb medicine, Sesimtang mixed Gujuntang. As a result of herb medication, patient’s memory and disorientation were improved and the score of K-DRS(Korea-Dementia Rating Scale) and MMSE-K(Mini-Mental State Examination-K) was ascended.

  • Objectives : This report is about a case of a patient who improvement in general condition, Infection and dysphagia after poststroke seizure. Methods : We observed a patiet who received treatment in hospital because of stroke sequelae. Her symptoms were left hemiplegia, right hemiparesis, dysphagia, dyspnea, sputum and general weakness, and acupunture and herb medicine were applied. Results : Stroke is the most common cause of seizures in the elderly. The impact of late onset GTC(generalized tonic-clonic) seizures is associated with worse outcomes. Conclusion : The patient of this case was attacked by intracerebal hemorrhage, cerebaral infarction and GTC seizures. Since then her neurologic disorder was progressed. As the treatments of the patient, herb medication and acupuncture therapy were applied and she got a wide improvement of dysphagia, dyspnea, URI sign and general condition.

  • Objectives: Tremor is a common disorder causing abnormal movements, it is defined as, "rhythmic, involuntary movements of a part of the body against ones own volition.". The purpose of this study is to report the effects of Korean Medicine (Acupuncture and herbal-medication) for oromandibular tremor resulting from Deficiency Syndrome. Methods: We treated 6 patients suffering from oromandibular tremor who received hospital treatment in DongEui Medical Center from March to June in 2015. Results: After the treatments, oromandibular tremor decreased or disappeared. And some other accompanying symptoms were improved. Conclusions: These results suggests that Korean medical treatments (Acupuncture and herb-medication) might be effective for treating oromandibular tremor resulting from Deficiency Syndrome.

  • The purpose of this study is to report the hemostatic effects of Kungkwikyoae-tang for abnormal uterine bleeding. Kungkwikyoae-tang has been known as a useful herbal medication for uterine bleeding. We treated patients who had been suffering from abnormal uterine bleeding with herb-medication, acupuncture therapy, pharmacopuncture therapy and moxa therapy. We prescribed Kungkwikyoae-tang three times a day. The improvement of symptoms were measured by checking patient bleeding volume, frequency and other physical signs. After Kungkwikyoae-tang was given, abnormal uterine bleeding volume and frequency was reduced and other physical symptoms were improved. This case study shows that Kungkwikyoae-tang has a hemostatic effects against the abnormal uterine bleeding.

  • Objectives: This study was to evaluate the effects of herbal medication and acupuncture therapy for children with acute appendicitis diagnosed by abdominal ultrasonography. Methods: Kamieuiyeeintang, a Korean Herb medicine, and acupuncture were given for four days. The abdominal ultrasonography and VAS scale were used to check the improvements. Results: Right lower abdominal pain, nausea and anorexia were totally gone after the treatments, and the abdominal ultrasonography showed normal. Conclusions: The result of this study showed that Kamieuiyeeintang medication and acupuncture treatment have cured acute appendicitis.

  • Objective : We got a good effect on one patient who was diagnosed Fibromyalgia. Method : We treated 1 case of Fibromyalgia with acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medication, and iontophoresis. We measured the VAS(Visual Analog Scale) and ROM(Range of motion) of Lumbar. Results : Patient's met complain is low back pain, pain and hemiparesis of night lower limb, and Pantalgia After treatment, most symptoms decreased and ROM, ambulation improved. VAS score changed from 10 to 2 for 52 days. Conclusion : The Fibromyalgia were successfully treated by acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medication, and iontophoresis.

  • Trigeminal neuralgia has a specific property which burning pain emerges suddenly and spasmodically. The following pain continuously emerges during 20 seconds or 30 seconds and then the pain disappears. This process of the pain emerges repeatedly. Trigeminal neuralgia was called Myuntong(麵痛). We experienced a patient who had Trigeminal neuralgia for five years. she was successfully treated by the herb-medication, accupunture and negative. The medication taken by the patient were Seunghyungsan(升荊散) and Jowyuseung chengtang(謂胃升淸湯) and so on. The accupunture was mainly done at mainly done G-14(陽白), S-2(瀉白), G-3(上關), S-36(足三里), LI-4(합閤穀) and so on. The negative was done sternocleidomastoid muscle, trapezius and Masseter muscle.

A Case Report of Recurrent Cystitis Treated by Baektong-tang based on Shanghanlun Provisions (『상한론(傷寒論)』 변병진단체계(辨病診斷體系)에 근거하여 백통탕(白通湯) 투여 후 호전된 재발성 방광염 증례 1례)

  • Objective: This case report describes the improvements of a patient with recurrent cystitis who was treated using an herbal medication according to the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS). Methods: 'DPIDS'and 'Interpretation based on Etymological chinese characters,'the patient was diagnosed with Shaoyin-bing, provision number 315, and administered Baektong-tang herb medication for 30 days. The changes in the symptoms of recurrent cystitis were estimated using the Interstitial Cystitis Symptom Index and Problem Index-Korean version (ICSI/ICPI-K) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Results : The ICSI/ICPI-K score changed from 33 to 0 and VAS score changed from 7 to 0. Conclusions: The main causes of the disease were 微 and 利,and the symptoms of recurrent cystitis

  • Background : Tremor is a rhythmic, involuntary muscular contraction characterized by oscillations (to-and-fro movements) of a part of the body. Tremor is the common symptom clinically. Objectives : The purpose of this study is to show a case of patient with tremor improved by medication of Bok-jin-centered. Patients & Methods : The patient was 60-year-old woman who complained Cephalic and cheilo tremor. She was treated by oriental medicine with acupuncture, herb medication, physical therapy through the abdominal diagnosis, Bok-Jin. Results : The Cephalic and cheilo tremor was reduced after oriental medical therapy. Conclusion : After the treatment, tremor and other symptoms were improved. This result suggested that Bok-jin is the significant diagnosis and medication of Bok-jin-centered is recommanded.

Two Case Reports of different chief complaints combined with Sleep Disorder treated by Gamchogungang-tang based on Shanghanlun Provisions (『상한론(傷寒論)』 변병진단체계(辨病診斷體系)에 근거하여 감초건강탕(甘草乾薑湯) 투여 후 호전된 수면 장애 관련 증례 2례)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to report the improvement in two patients with different complaints of sleep disorder treated with herbal medication based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS), and hypothesize the meaning of word '更'. Methods : According to DPIDS, patients were diagnosed with Taeyang-byung no. 29 provision, and took Gamchogungang-tang herb medication 15 or 90days. The results of administration were evaluated by the hyperhidrosis disease severity scale (HDSS) and the visual analog scale (VAS). Results : After administration of Gamchogungang-tang 15 or 90days, based on 29 provision of Gamchogungang-tang diagnosed according to Shanghanlun provisions, in one case the HDSS decreased from 3 to 1 and the VAS decreased from 10 to 1. In the other case, the VAS decreased from 10 to 1. Conclusions : Each patient not only recovered from symptoms of hyperhidrosis and alopecia areata, but also from sleep disorders following administration of a single medication of Gamchogungang-tang. This case report suggests that the word '更' in the 29 provisions of Shanghanlun means sleep disorder in this case.
