  • Cooperative communications play a important role in increasing frame transmission rate at wireless communication networks where frequency resource is strictly limited. In this paper, we did a research on how to select the helper nodes that are very import in cooperative communications. As a prelude study in this research field, we carried out performance comparison of three helper node selection schemes using computer simulation. The system throughput was used as the performance measure and the random way point mobility model, where every communicating nodes move around within the designated communication range, was used.

  • Angelica gigas has been used as a Korean traditional medicine for pain relief and gynecological health. Although the extracts are reported to have an anti-inflammatory property, the bioactive compounds of the herbal plant and the effect on T cell responses are unclear. In this study, we identified decursinol angelate (DA) as an immunomodulatory ingredient of A. gigas and demonstrated its suppressive effect on type 17 helper T (Th17) cell responses. Helper T cell culture experiments revealed that DA impeded the differentiation of Th17 cells and IL-17 production without affecting the survival and proliferation of CD4 T cells. By using a dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis model, we determined the therapeutic potential of DA for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. DA treatment attenuated the severity of colitis including a reduction in weight loss, colon shortening, and protection from colonic tissue damage induced by DSS administration. Intriguingly, Th17 cells concurrently with neutrophils in the colitis tissues were significantly decreased by the DA treatment. Overall, our experimental evidence reveals for the first time that DA is an anti-inflammatory compound to modulate inflammatory T cells, and suggests DA as a potential therapeutic agent to manage inflammatory conditions associated with Th17 cell responses.

  • While CD8+ cytotoxic T cells have long been considered the primary effector in controlling tumors, the involvement of CD4+ "helper" T cells in anti-tumor immunity has been underappreciated. The investigations of intra-tumoral T cells, fueled by the recent advances in genomic technologies, have led to a rethinking of the indirect role of CD4+ T cells that have traditionally been described as a "helper". Accumulating evidence from preclinical and clinical studies indicates that CD4+ T cells can acquire intrinsic cytotoxic properties and directly kill various types of tumor cells in a major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC-II)-dependent manner, as opposed to the indirect "helper" function, thus underscoring a potentially critical contribution of CD4+ cytotoxic T cells to immune responses against a wide range of tumor types. Here, we discuss the biological properties of anti-tumor CD4+ T cells with cytotoxic capability and highlight the emerging observations suggesting their more significant role in anti-tumor immunity than previously appreciated.

  • To improve the cooperative efficiency of node cooperation and multiple access performance for multihop wireless networks, a priority-differentiated cooperative medium access control protocol with contention resolution (CRP-CMAC) is proposed. In the protocol, the helper selection process is divided into the priority differentiation phase and the contention resolution phase for the helpers with the same priority. A higher priority helper can choose an earlier minislot in the priority differentiation phase to send a busy tone. As a result, the protocol promptly selects all the highest priority helpers. The contention resolution phase of the same priority helpers consists of k round contention resolution procedures. The helpers that had sent the first busy tone and are now sending the longest busy tone can continue to the next round, and then the other helpers that sense the busy tone withdraw from the contention. Therefore, it can select the unique best helper from the highest priority helpers with high probability. A packet piggyback mechanism is also adopted to make the high data rate helper with packet to send transmit its data packets to its recipient without reservation. It can significantly decrease the reservation overhead and effectively improve the cooperation efficiency and channel utilization. Simulation results show that the maximum throughput of CRP-CMAC is 74%, 36.1% and 15% higher than those of the 802.11 DCF, CoopMACA and 2rcMAC protocols in a wireless local area network (WLAN) environment, and 82.6%, 37.6% and 46.3% higher in an ad hoc network environment, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the distribution of lymphocyte populations in normal, reversibly inflamed and irreversibly inflamed human dental pulp tissues using flow cytometry. Flow cytometry, with specific antibody and fluorochrome reagent allows us to know cellular properties of hematolymphoid cells by measuring fluorescence of stained cells. Before extirpation of pulps in routine endodontic treatment, the clinical diagnosis were performed by symptom. The extirpated pulp tissues were divided into normal pulp group (N=5), reversible pulpit is group(N=10) and irreversible pulpitis group(N=7). The specimen was placed into RPMI 1640 medium, minced into small pieces, and then digested in medium with collagenase. The cell suspension was resuspended in PBS for monoclonal antibody staining of T lymhocytes(CD3+), B lymphocytes (CD19+), T helper cell (CD4+) and T supressor cell (CD8+). The percentages of cells were counted by FACStar(BD) flow cytometer. Following results were obtained; 1. In the most normal and inflamed pulps, the percentages of T lymphocyte, B lymphocytes, T helper cell and T suppressor/cytotoxic cell were less than 1 % in total counted pulpal cells. 2. The higher percentages of T, B, T helper and T suppressor cells were observed in irreversible pulpitis group as compared with the normal pulp and reversible pulpitis group but the differences between groups were not statistically significant (p>0.05). 3. The percentages of T helper cells (CD4 + cells) were greater than that of T suppressor/cytotoxic cells (CD8 + cells) in the inflamed pulps.

  • CCN networking is one of the future internet. With the rapid development of network platforms emerged a wide range of services through a virtual network environment. The performance of CCN in the high bandwidth delay is important to provide various services between nations. We can check the high bandwidth delay product in federation. Federation between the nations has the advantage of being effective to do a various services for the users, and the remote heterogeneous physical hardware engine supports various environments. Data transmission delay can be occur in long distance network even though the network is federated network. In this paper, we propose CCN-Helper protocol for data transmission delay in ling distance networks. We connect from KREONET in Korea to iLab.t in Belgique in order to test CCNx over heterogeneous federated environment.

  • Antibodies are powerful defense tools against pathogens but may cause autoimmune diseases when erroneously directed toward self-antigens. Thus, antibody producing cells are carefully selected, refined, and expanded in a highly regulated microenvironment (germinal center) in the peripheral lymphoid organs. A subset of T cells termed T follicular helper cells (Tfh) play a central role in instructing B cells to form a repertoire of antibody producing cells that provide life-long supply of high affinity, pathogenspecific antibodies. Therefore, understanding how Tfh cells arise and how they facilitate B cell selection and differentiation during germinal center reaction is critical to improve vaccines and better treat autoimmune diseases. In this review, I will summarise recent findings on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying Tfh generation and function with an emphasis on T cell costimulation.

  • To alleviate the damage caused by key exposures, Dodis et al. introduced the notion of key-insulated security where secret keys are periodically updated by using a physically insulated helper key. To decrease the risk of helper key exposures, Hanaoka et al. advocated parallel key-insulated mechanism where distinct helpers are independently used in key updates. In this paper, we propose the first parallel key-insulated signature scheme which is provably secure without resorting to the random oracle methodology. Our scheme not only allows frequent key updating, but also does not increase the risk of helper key exposures.

  • This paper addresses a control architecture for the hospital service robot, SmartHelper. With a sensing-reasoning-acting paradigm, the deliberation takes place at planning layer while the reaction is dealt through the parallel execution of operations. Hence, the system presents both a hierarchical and an heterarchical decomposition, being able to show a predictable response while keeping rapid reactivity to the dynamic environment. The deliberative controller accomplishes four functions which are path generation, selection of navigation way, command and monitoring. The reactive controller uses fuzzy and potential field method for robot navigation. Through simulation under a virtual environment IGRIP, the effectiveness of the control architecture is verified.
