A series of numerical simulation has been carried out to study performance of a cyclone type oil separator, which is designed for the compressor of a refrigeration system. Working fluid is R22, which is a typical refrigerant, and mineral oil droplet is supplied. Pitch of the helix is considered as design parameters to make a compact separator. Depending on the helix pitch, separation efficiency varies from 97.5 to 99%, while predicted pressure drop ranges from 5 to 6.5 kPa. Considering both of the pressure drop and separation efficiency, helix pitch of the separator has been designed as 50 mm.
A helical nanosturctrue can be obtained by self-assembly method. Utilizing DPD simulation coarse-grained model, we patterned 2D layer nanosheets with repeated diagonal defects and grafts, and programed to self-roll into hollow helix structure. The defected pattern side caused anisotropy, and formed helix or helix-like structure. This opens the possibility to control the helix pitch or cavity radius. In this work, we designed several patterns about diagonal defect with a variety of defect side densities and defect widths and then simulation was carried out. Thus, our results have that parameters are affecting self-assembly of nanosheets and their conformation.
Recently introduced WBK(Wire-wounded Bulk Kagome) shows relatively superior mechanical properties compared to other types of PCM. WBK is fabricated by assembling helical wires in 6 directions. Wire being a helix, the wire's geometric properties like pitch and helical radius shows certain geometric characteristics which can play some critical role in setting up an automatic fabrication process. In this study, geometry of WBK is modeled by various transformations of a piece of helical wire and the characteristics of the geometry of an element of WBK truss are discussed. In addition, the roles of pitch and helical radius of wire in optimizing the assembling process are described and the derivation of criteria is attempted to decide proper helical radius which would maintain minimal interference between wires at the crossings.
The purpose of this study was to give a guideline for selecting the nickel-titanium (NiTi) file by review from many studies. Since the early 1990s, several instrument systems manufactured from NiTi have been introduced into endodontic practice. The specific design characteristics vary, such as tip shape and size, cross sectional view, helix angle, and pitch space. Some of the early systems have been removed from the market or play only minor roles; others are still widely used. New designs continually are produced, but the extent to which clinical outcomes will depend on design characteristics is difficult to forecast. In this study, I have reviewed the different design characteristics in respect of the safety and efficiency. With the review from many studies, I concluded that the clinicians must be understand the specific design characteristics for selecting the ideal NiTi rotary instruments.
Oil sands, which are largely distributed in Canada and Venezuela, are a mixture of crude oil and sandy soils. In order to extract crude oil from oil sands, construction of massive oil sand plants is required. Generally, the typically-used foundation types of the oil sand plant are driven piles and cast-in-place piles. Most of the oil sand plants are located in cold and remote regions. Installation of driven piles in frozen or organic surface soils is difficult due to high resistance and installation equipment accessability, while the cast-in-place pile has concrete curing problem due to cold temperature. Helical pile can be installed quickly and easily using rotation with a little help of vertical load. As the installation of helical pile is available using a small and light-weight installation equipment, accessibility of installation equipment is improved. The helical pile has an advantage of easy removal by rotation in reverse direction compared with that of installation. Furthermore, reuse of removed helical piles is possible when the piles are structurally safe. In this study, the behavior of helical piles varying helix pitch was analyzed based on the numerical analysis results. Numerical model was calibrated based on the results of model helical pile tests in laboratory. The ultimate helical pile loads, the displacement of each helix attached to the shaft of the helical pile, and the load sharing ratio of each helix were analyzed.

Axial and lateral behavior of helical piles is generally influenced by number, diameter, helix pitch, and locations of helices. In this study, axial and horizontal behavior of helical piles with three helices was investigated varying helices' locations, diameter, and pitch. Especially, due to the spiral shapes of helices, the effect of lateral load directions at pile heads on their lateral behavior was investigated. Axial load test of small-scale helical pile was conducted in laboratory, and its results were compared with numerical analysis results of the same model for cross check of validity of both results. Furthermore, diverse numerical analyses were performed for different shapes of helical piles. Consequently, it was found that, for the given analysis conditions, the helix diameter was the most influential factor on the horizontal and vertical behavior of helical piles.

Autophagy is an important process for protein recycling. Oligomerization of p62/SQSTM1 is an essential step in this process and is achieved in two steps. Phox and Bem1p (PB1) domains can oligomerize through both basic and acidic surfaces in each molecule. The ZZ-type zinc finger (ZZ) domain binds to target proteins and promotes higher-oligomerization of p62. This mechanism is an important step in routing target proteins to the autophagosome. Here, we determined the crystal structure of the PB1 homo-dimer and modeled the p62 PB1 oligomers. These oligomer models were represented by a cylindrical helix and were compared with the previously determined electron microscopic map of a PB1 oligomer. To accurately compare, we mathematically calculated the lead length and radius of the helical oligomers. Our PB1 oligomer model fits the electron microscopy map and is both bendable and stretchable as a flexible helical filament.
The energy absorption characteristics of diamond core sandwich cylindrical columns under axial crushing process depend greatly on the amount of material which participates in the plastic deformation. Both the single-objective and multi-objective optimizations are performed for columns under axial crushing load with core thickness and helix pitch of the honeycomb core as design variables. Models are optimized by multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm to achieve maximum specific energy absorption (SEA) capacity and minimum peak crushing force (PCF). Results show that optimization improves the energy absorption characteristics with constrained and unconstrained peak crashing load. Also, it is concluded that the aluminum tube has a better energy absorption capability rather than steel tube at a certain peak crushing force. The results justify that the interaction effects between the honeycomb and column walls greatly improve the energy absorption efficiency. A ranking technique for order preference (TOPSIS) is then used to sort the non-dominated solutions by the preference of decision makers. That is, a multi-criteria decision which consists of MOPSO and TOPSIS is presented to find out a compromise solution for decision makers. Furthermore, local and global sensitivity analyses are performed to assess the effect of design variable values on the SEA and PCF functions in design domain. Based on the sensitivity analysis results, it is concluded that for both models, the helix pitch of the honeycomb core has greater effect on the sensitivity of SEA, while, the core thickness has greater effect on the sensitivity of PCF.

The characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop through tubes has been investigated experimentally for a compound heat transfer enhancement. The test tubes were spirally indented tubes with wire coil inserts which had a various combinations of pitch and helix angles. Pure water was used as working fluids for the experiments, Heat transfer coefficients and friction factors of the test tubes were evaluated from the values of measured temperatures, flow rates and pressure drops. An performance evaluation was performed to find an optimal combination of spirally indented tubes with wire coil inserts. When the helix angle of wire coil insert are $71^{\circ}-72^{\circ}$, the best heat transfer enhancement was shown. The friction factor was 9 - 13 times higher than those in smooth tubes, and the heat transfer was enhanced a maximum of 500%.

In order to predict analytically torque, thrust force, tool life and chip formation in drilling, cutting models for chisel edge with various tool-chip contact length were developed in this type. Also, the experimental tests are run with various pilot holes. The following conclusions were obtained from the analysis. \circled1 It's also found experimentally that thrust force(Fz) decreases as pilot hole diameter increases. \circled2 Surface roughness for material(G) is larger that for material(J). The difference over two materials in roughness value about 0.5$mu extrm{m}$. \circled3 Flank wear of the drill in cutting material of G less than any other kinds of materials(F, G, H, I, J). \circled4 In drilling a deep hole on a workpiece over SM45C either twist drill. The chip was conical helix type at the fist suspensely change the two segment type and than two a long pitch helix style.
